Smoke.

Everything smells of smoke, and blood. Around the square lie the bodies of at least two dozen goblins, and the few unfortunate townspeople that weren't lucky enough to get out of the way of the goblin's blades. The good cheer and joy from earlier are a distant memory. Everything moves slowly. Guardsmen can be seen attacking the few goblins that remain in the square as the last of the towns folk leave.

Ameiko stabs a goblin through the neck just a dozen yards away. Sheriff Hemlock smashes a pair to paste with a giant hammer that he wields with both hands. Lou Kasuri pummels another of the little gremlins into an eternal sleep while Father Zantus ushers a few people inside before rushing to where the party stands. He mutters a prayer that fills everyone with a warming light.

"I thank you for all that you've done to keep this town safe. It seems that the square is safe enough for now." He says to each of you.

With the last goblins dispatched, the guards, the sheriff, Ameiko, and Lou gather around.

"Damned goblins. How'd they get into town? There's supposed to be guards at every gate and patrolling the walls." Sheriff Hemlock grumbles.

"I don't know, but we need to--"

"Sheirff! The li'l bastards are at the East Gate. Toby an' Riska are holdin' it, but not fer long." Shouts a young guard running up from the south. interrupting the Father.

The massive Shoanti grits his teeth and lets loose a stream of curses under his breath.

"Zantus, help those in the church. I'll send any wounded to you." His eyes move to the party. "I have a bad feeling about this. Can you lot check on the north gate?"

Asuriel:
Father Zantus finds you in the cathedral and speaks in quick, hushed tones. "Asuriel, there's a group of people out there that Belor wants to check on the North Gate. Go with them and help however you can." He looks to people huddled in the pews. "I fear we are all about to find out how much we can help very shortly." he mutters under his breath.

Important infos:
Pavanna and Horatio are down a round of their bardic performance each. Noro is down a round of rage. Everyone is now at full.

Perception DC 20:
Out of the corner of your eye, you spy two goblins hiding in an alley, who are then engulfed in a shadow that leaves nothing but ash.

"The north gate. Very well." Horatio wipes his rapier on a scrap of a dead goblin's clothing, nodding to the large Shoanti man. "I'm sure we can handle a few more of these little bastards, eh?" he asks, looking over the party - Thirzin, Olivius, Saroune, Noro... Pavanna.

Shaking his head slightly, burying his own fear under a healthy layer of Caileanite bravado, he clasps Ameiko's hand, a look of faux concern in his brilliant eyes. "My darling Ameiko, if I should perish out there, I trust that you will sing of my exploits. My adoring public deserve to know that I died a hero. Of course, should I live - I'll be seeing you soon for a drink!" With that, he points north with his rapier. "Onward, friends (and Olivius)! Northward - to glory!"

Assuming nobody else does, he'll take the lead.

Asuriel was assisting whatever injured had made their way into the cathedral for safety when she was approached by Father Zantus. She listens to his request and bows her head slightly in affirmation. "As you wish father, I am on my way as fast as my feet will carry me."

When he turns away she quickly dashes down the hallway to the western exit from the cathedral. As she exits the building and reaches the top step that leads down into the square outside, she is overwhelmed by the scene of carnage that lay before her. Surveying the scene of dead, wounded and wonton destruction takes her breath away. A gasp escapes her mouth which she quickly covers with her hand.

What forsaken work is this? What has descended upon this blessed day?

Realizing she is gawking when she should be acting, she hops down the steps two at a time and begins to run north towards the White Deer Inn on the way to the north gate. Along the way she spots several others who are also making their way north. She eyes them with curiosity as she searches for Sheriff Hemlock.

Once again, Pavanna finds herself rolling her eyes at Horatio’s lapsing into old habits. He does mean well.... “If there’s more earfangs there, we’ll see them off, Sheriff,” she assures Hemlock crisply, meaningfully hefting her glowing longsword.

Pausing for a breath, she looks down at one of the felled goblins — the one that shot at her — then leaves her sword speared into the ground for a moment so she can quickly strip the body of its bow and quiver and offer them to Horatio. “You’ve done well with a blade thus far, Horatio, but I think we owe it to these little twerps to give them back their arrows — point-first. I know it’ll be more awkward than using a human-sized bow, but it’s better than having no way to shoot back at all.”
The goblins were trying to pincushion Olivius and Pavanna with arrows the last time we played this scene, so I presume that gear is still with the corpses. Call it... a Small shortbow and 2d3 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 Small arrows — unless the GM has other ideas? ;)

She retrieves her sword, then motions for Olivius to take her left side and looks to Horatio and Saroune. “Horatio, please hold a half-pace behind me and to my right; if they try to rush you rather than me, we’ll both be able to hit the same target. Saroune, the same place but off to Olivius’ left, if you would?”
FWIW, she’s trying to talk them into a wedge formation, with herself and Olivius at the forward/narrow end and Saroune and Horatio at the wide one. It should make it harder for anyone to outflank this little assault-team, though.... :-\

Thirzin finds nothing but some goblin tracks and faint scorch marks. The air is warm, uncomfortably so. The heat is fading, though, and soon it's no hotter in the alley than the rest of Sandpoint.

The sounds of battle come from the southeast, along with that horribly catchy goblin war-song.

I’ve nothing against something destroying goblins at a time like this, but if Thirzin saw what he claims, something worse may be about.... Pavanna accepts Hemlock’s urgings/order with a crisp nod, wordlessly moving on towards the North Gate, carefully keeping formation with Olivius and Horatio. She catches sight of a young girl of perhaps thirteen laying between two broken barrels of what used to be fresh fruit. She gently closes the eyelids of the young girl while whispering a soft prayer. After she finishes her prayer she folds the hands of the girl together in her lap and stands once more as people being to rush past her north.

Le Map

Put yourselves on the map. The action's towards the bottom.

Barely a minute away from the cathedral, the sounds of a dog baying at something can be heard over the din of battles to the south. Shortly after that, the chattering of goblins and the human cries for help join the cacophony. As the party rounds the corner, a yelp of pain ends the baying and goblin cheers can be heard. Behind a barrel in an alleyway, a young nobleman screams for help. Three goblins hoot and holler from the side of the street and a goblin riding some mangy cross of rat and cur lets loose a warcry while pumping his horsechopper up and down.

In light of the GM’s reminder, let’s keep the attack moving, shall we?

Flicking a glance at the goblins’ positions, Pavanna calculates quickly. «Если вы хотите, чтобы помочь ему, держать позиции на шаг к его задней и левой и защищать свой фланг. Если вы делаете что-нибудь сомнительное, я отрежу тебя пополам.»

Infernal:
“«If you want to help him, hold position a pace to his rear and left and protect his flank. If you do anything dubious, I’ll cut you in half.»”

She quickly switches back to Taldane. “Olivius, the woman offers to ‘bond her blood’ to yours, to keep you from falling to goblin blades. Unless you know her from Arazni, I don’t trust her to do it, so I’ve told her to watch your left flank instead.” Perhaps I am paranoid... but today’s events suggest someone is out to get us and this town! “Let’s take the larger group first — we don’t need to be caught between two forces.”

Seeing the closest of the goblins slip away from Noro’s dashing assault and duck another of her powerful swings, Pavanna thinks it a good time to demonstrate the advantages of armed close-combat, moving to keep the Tian brawler’s opponent too busy (or dead) to respond to her strike.

Swift action: activate Archaeologist’s Luck (1 round already expended, 5 remaining)

Damn, do I have the same effect? :p

"Remind me to ask you about that language sometime," Horatio mutters to Pavanna, moving up with her to keep the formation. He tears his eyes away from the (rather attractive) newcomer, swinging his violin into place at his jaw as he falls into place behind Noro - noting her failure to hit the goblins, and biting his tongue. She'd already bruised his lovely face once, after all.

"Never fear, my good man!" he calls to the cowering noble. "We'll have you safe and sound in no time!" Drawing his bow from his belt, he puts it to the strings, playing the first tune that comes to mind - a rousing jig that wouldn't be out of place in any barroom. Golden light spreads from his fingers, sinking into the neck of his instrument, and filling the air with an almost tangible feeling of pride and valor.

Inspire courage up!

Olivius is busy advancing and reading his target when a (gorgeous) woman bursts between him and Pavanna. Sheer shock keep him from grabbing her by the neck and shoving her back behind him.

Pavanna wrote:

Olivius starts to protest as Pavanna darts off, but says nothing. We will likely be flanked anyway, but my left will be clear. He shakes off the momentary distraction and points behind him with his spear hand thumb, indicating the new girl should fall back.

Once she's out of the way he rushes forward at the Goblin Dog, trying to kill the mount before the rider.

Temperance and patience in all things. Temperance and patience in all things. Temperance and patience in all things.

Asuriel opens her mouth but closes it instantly. She does her best to refrain from showing any frustration from the blatantly rude creature.

Dubious? Was this tielfing mad? Which part about ensuring this man does not fall in battle was unclear. Why is she threatening action on me? She must obvously be blind or stupid, likely the latter.

"Вы не сделает ничего подобного! На чьей вы здесь? Если этот человек падает в бою, пусть это тяжело веса на вашей душе. Хорошо, я буду преследовать альтернативные способы помощи, но ни в коем случае я принимать заказы от таких ваш высокомерный тон. У меня будет мой глаз на вы рогатый один."

You will do no such thing! Whose side are you on here? If this man falls in battle, let it weight heavily on your soul. Fine, I will pursue alternate means of assistance but by no means am I taking orders from the likes your arrogant tone. I will have my eye on you horned one.

Asurel looks upwards to the heavens above and focusing intently on something unseen. She places her right palm firmly against her chest and speaks to the goddess of the sun.

Erm, inspire courage is already providing a morale bonus... They don't stack.

He's right. Bonuses of the same type do not stack unless it is otherwise specified. As far as I know, Dodge bonuses are the only ones that explicitly stack.

Olivius had rushed off to challenge the mounted goblin. If Saroune could clear a path for her other companions, they could help him save the fallen man. Luckily, she had something prepared for the occasion.

Saroune moved to stand beside Pavanna. She wasn't sure why people were arguing in Infernal, but she wasn't going to let language barriers get her friends burned. "Noro, Pavanna! Stand back!"

She broke her will into two parts: the first concentrated on her fingertips, extended in front of her, and the second on her own body's heat. Once Saroune held each concept separate in her mind, she brought the two together with a practiced mental exercise. She felt the bond instantaneously. The heat in her arms began to draw away and build in her fingertips, until they felt as if she were touching a kettle hanging over a fire.

Confident she had enough power, she lifted her hands and shouted "Arde!"

Varisian:
"Burn!"

A gout of searing fire erupted from Saroune's hands, covering the two goblins furthest from Noro and Pavanna.

Burning Hands (DC 16): 1d4 ⇒ 1

Ah, the joys of being a level 1 wizard.
