DM Salsa Presents: The Jade Regent (Inactive)

Game Master AdamWarnock

1 to 50 of 142 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

This is a closed recruitment for people playing in one of my other games. I may open this up if I need to fill more slots.

Sandpoint, a sleepy little town on the Lost Coast that is known for three things: Glass, the Rusty Dragon, and the Heroes of Sandpoint that defeated Karzoug the Claimer. Other than a brief period a few years ago, it has always been a sleepy little town, or so it likes to think. Recently, the Licktoad Goblins have grown bold and fireworks light up the skies in Brinestump. With the town guard stretched thin, Sheriff Belor Hemlock has re-instituted the Goblin Bounty, and a few young citizens see this as their first step to becoming Sandpoints newest heroes.

Character Creation:
-Roll 4d6 six times, drop the lowest from each set. If you end up with less than a 20pt buy, reroll.
-Three traits, one must be a campaign trait.
-Average Gold
-No 3PP
-All Paizo Core is allowed with the exceptions below.
-No Evil
-No Races more than 15RP
-No Synthesis Summoner.
-No Mythic
-No Gunslinger
-No Firearms, period.

Requirements:
-Crunch
-Background
-What role your character would play in a caravan
-An RP sample.

Special Considerations:
I've already accepted two players, and I'll take up to four more. The two characters are:
-Lou Kasuri, a human Monk of Tien tradition.
-Liera Mvashti, a tiefling Witch.

I'm also curious to see Lou's younger sister, Noro in this as well. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you everything you need to get into character. Noro is a Human Barbarian that likes to use her fists and face to break things.

Recruitment closes Tuesday, October 14, 2014. This date is subject to change at the GM's discretion.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

Stats! I like to roll Dice!: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 2) = 12

Whew, ok then.

I took you seriously on the reroll thing:
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 1) = 1312
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 6) = 1513
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 6, 3) = 1412
4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 1, 1) = 98
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 1) = 1211
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 1) = 65

I managed to roll a -3 point buy. Maybe I shouldn't do this game. It's already off to a really bad start...

4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 4) = 1110
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 4) = 1413
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 5) = 1110
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 3) = 109
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 5) = 1715
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 2) = 1413

um okay, 12 point buy. Maybe it's getting better.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 5) = 1513
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 3) = 1312
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 6) = 1614
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 3) = 1211
4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 2) = 1210
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 6) = 1715

17 point buy. Perhaps I'll get over the hump with the next one.

4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 4) = 1413
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 2) = 1210
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 3) = 1210
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 2, 2) = 1513
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 2, 3) = 108
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 6) = 1615

Oop, 11 point buy is not a positive trend...

4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 1) = 1312
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 1) = 98
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 4) = 1713
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 2, 1) = 87
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 5, 4) = 1514
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 1) = 87

0 point buy. That's not going well for me.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 6) = 13=11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 1) = 15=14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 1) = 8=7
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6, 5) = 20=16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 4) = 22=18
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 6) = 16=13

Wait, what? That's good! It's an actual acceptable number! Let's do some calculations and... 32 point buy! One really bad stat and the rest are acceptable. I think I can have fun with this.

Can I submit more than one character? I have two ideas that seem cool, but I'm not sure which to decide on.

Either a samurai or a ninja. We so rarely get to play these classes. :)

Regardless, here are my rolls:

Spoiler:
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 6) = 11 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 6) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 4) = 17 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 6, 2) = 10 = 9
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 3) = 17 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 4) = 16 = 14

Darn, one point off.

4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 6) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 6) = 14 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 3) = 12 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4, 6) = 16 = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 2) = 11 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 1, 2) = 9 = 8

13 point buy here.

4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 3) = 12 = 11
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 5) = 14 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1, 6) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 5) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 4) = 15 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 2) = 14 = 12

*sigh* Two points off.

4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 1) = 10 = 9
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 3, 3) = 10 = 8
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1, 4) = 7 = 6
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 1) = 9 = 8
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 3) = 14 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 5) = 18 = 15

No chance.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 5) = 18 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 4) = 13 = 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3, 6) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 3) = 15 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 2) = 11 = 10
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3, 1) = 11 = 10

Phew. Finally, a decent roll. That's a 22 point buy.

El Ronza here, AKA Ronnie/Horatio/Helena/Vivian/Nic. Rolling my stats, as requested, Mr. Salsa-man. =)

4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 1) = 16 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 1, 2) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 5) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 1) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 4, 3) = 13 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 3, 3) = 17 14

That's a 14-point buy, so let's roll again.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 1) = 10 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 4) = 22 18
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 5) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 3) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3, 5) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 6) = 14 13

Oh, HELLO! A tidy 25 points, with a big sexy 18 for Intelligence before racial modifiers. Oh yes, I think my little witch will do just fine here... juuuuuuuuuust fine

I'll start shuffling her stats around now, if HeroLab decides to work for me. The question is, whether to put that 9 into strength, or throw it in charisma and live with the 7... Hmm.

Thunk here. Will post stats after work. Just dotting for now.

Scarab Sages

Olivius/Rhasuel here

oh please oh please...: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 2) = 14 12
oh please oh please...: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 2) = 18 16

oh please oh please...: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 4) = 16 14

31 points with a nasty bruise of a 7. Ouch.

I'm not sure what I want to play yet. Wanted to try the "dune drifter" gunslinger cavalier mix, but guns are a no-no. Maybe an ACG class. I'll get back to you. :)

Grand Lodge

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 6) = 21 18

4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 4) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 1) = 11 10

Not bad at all, that's a 42 point buy right out of the gate.

Scarab Sages

Thinking Gnome Investigator skill monkey with a sword cane, but undecided.

hello all, rolling for Lou

let me say this: I hate rolling stats sometimes.

4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 6) = 16 = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 6) = 18 = 17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 5) = 14 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6) = 18 = 16
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 1) = 14 = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 4) = 15 = 14

I take that back rolling is fun... (this time)

You hate rolling for stats? Need I remind you of poor Spoony's horrible array? ;-) That said, Lou looks pretty solid with a spread like that!

Choon - GNOME INVESTIGATOR. DO EEEEEEEEEEET.

that is a first for me...last time I rolled stats I got three stats below 10 and no re-roll allowed cause the one 18 I got.

I would ratehr have no 18's and a good balance across the board.

glad to have you with us Ronnie...

to other applicants that are planning characters, Lou is a monk to start but depending on story, and how this pan out, he may multi into Samuari to take up the duties of his ancestors before coming to Sandpoint.

It's always fun gaming with you, Ed. =) Lou's a great character, and I look forward to partying up with him again!

Three stats below ten?? Ouch. That's not worth an 18. =( Unless you go synthesist summoner, put the low stats in your physical ability scores, and live vicariously through your eidolon...

Scarab Sages

Alrighty. Looking at a gnome or halfling investigator (sleuth). High Cha. High int. all the skills. Combat will suck though. So will carrying capacity because Str is my logical dump leaving me with a score of 5. :(

How much is it to have a manservant carry your gear for you? Or perhaps he'll ride a donkey.

For some reason my subconscious made him into some kind of Imperial British gentleman on safari to the exotic lands. His name, therefore, is Sir Archibald Benedict Thunderblossom! And he will soon make his grand appearance in Sandpoint (maybe)!

You know how sometimes, when you laugh really hard, you sort of stop being able to make noise, and all you can do is rock back and forth and clap your hands? That's what the name "Sir Archibald Benedict Thunderblossom" did to me. It conjures up a very specific image.

(Hint: it's this.)

Scarab Sages

I think your link is broken... It showed me a fist with a J on it.

It conjures that image in a very abstract way. ;)

Olmek wrote:
Can I submit more than one character?

Certainly.

Sir Archibald Benedict Thunderblossom, at your service! My name is so long I can't include the spaces!

Edit: no info up yet. Still working.

Choon wrote:

The hell...? It was working properly when I tried the link after posting.

Ah well. Try another.

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In short, yes, but with a dash more pompous. :)

Presenting Jin Thiesson!

All the relevant information is in the alias.

She's designed with pre-existing relationships in mind, so ideally, she'd be pretty familiar with Noro and Lou, sort of like a plucky adopted sister.

I opted to go rogue, eventually picking up a ki pool and some ninja tricks as we transition into Tian-Xia. I thought it fit better with the character growing up in Korvosa.

I'll have my samurai up some time tonight!

Jin, I see the connection to Curse of the Crimson Throne in your back story as well.

Yes! I figure that Paizo has given us a living history of Varisia, so I put it to use.

My samurai will actually have ties to what happens in Rise of the Runelords.

I hope one of these guys gets picked. I really enjoy playing with a lot of the folk I see here!

I built Noro's story at one time to tie her to runlords, jade regent, Serpent's skull, and skull and shackles.

I'm making a Card Caster Magus that's going to be the Fortune teller. When it comes to crafting, can we have items we've crafted ourselves? I'd like him to make his own cards and possibly scrolls. Also, are we going with rolling for wealth or starting with average?

Scarab Sages

Says average wealth up top, but nothing about crafting.

@ Oterisk: Average wealth, and while I have nothing against crafting items in game, I'm going to say that even if you do craft it yourself, it was a learning experience and you still had to pay the full price of the item in materials, this is mainly so people who didn't take a Craft skill don't get penalized at the start.

There seems to be a lot of Martial characters. I think so far only Ronnie's and Oterisk's characters have any spellcasting, and both of them are arcane casters.

Scarab Sages

Sir Thunderblossom could have extracts, if needed, but the luck aspect of the sleuth really fits the character. Either route, he's a skill monkey all the way.

Ok, so let's see that's in descending order:

17

-----
Total 21 points

Not the greatest rolls I've ever had, but I think I can do something with these. Actually, I'm all up for a good challenge, so I think I'll put these points into a Cleric. Salsa, would you be opposed to a Cleric with no Deity, but who worships the cycles of life and death? So the Death Domain and Healing Domain? I'd run him as neutral alignment, given his philosophical paradigm.

I wouldn't include me in the combat mods. The way this is going I'll probably be rolling to aid my allies most of the time. :P

Roleplay sample:
A lone shabby tent stuck out like a sore thumb on the northern road into Sandpoint. The wind had kicked up off of the sea but it seemed to be moving the tent more than the leaves of the trees that gave it shelter. A young couple ventured out in the evening giggling to each other and hoping to get at least a good memory out of their excursion. They entered the tent as the strange soothsayer was meditating, standing on his head with bare feet above him pressed together with his knees apart. When he saw them come in, one eye flung open and he righted himself and grabbed his cards, shuffling them a little and making a gesture to the hat to their left with his head. There was a little paper sign in the hatband that said “silver for cards.” Two silver were dropped into the hat and he set to work.

As Tshilaba dealt the cards, he waved his fingers through the air and little sparks and tiny silent fireworks accompanied his actions. ”It’s good that you have come to see me for fate is fluid and there are things which you can do to find more success in business and in love.” His voice seemed strained like he was trying to sound like a fortune teller instead of actually being one. He had a few cards stuck through boards and directly into the table up to halfway through them, so even though people wanted to make fun of him for his antics, they didn’t because they didn’t want to get him angry.

He flipped over the first card. ”Ah, the Fiend. You would do well to be wary of the mechanizations of powerful intelligences who are plotting your doom.” And the second card was flipped next to it and slightly askew. ”And the Cricket. You will soon go on a long journey, but be encouraged. There is a reward for you at the end.” He held his chin high and his eyes closed, hoping to hear the chink of coin in his hat again. A normal harrowing he’d do had three cards, and they’d only put in two coins.

There was an awkward silence for a few moments until the couple thought they were done and began to get up. Tshilaba made another gesture toward the hat, but the couple hurried out, giggling again as they walked quickly away. He opened his eyes and sighed loudly glancing down at the cards. ”Wait a second… he said to no one in particular. ...These cards are upside down. This is my fortune.” He looked at the cards again quizzically and put down another card. It was the Snakebite.

The fortune teller slapped the cards off the table and went back to his headstand, trying to clear his mind and impress any more prospective customers.

History:
Some fortune tellers are wise, able to discern the way of things through superior insight and accumulated wisdom. Tshilaba was not one of those. There are also some Fortune Tellers that are extremely clever, able to read people and situations and come up with profitable fortunes and turn a tidy profit. Tshilaba was not one of those either. He was instead a gullible fool who believed he could tell fortunes because his brother told him that he could, and to this day he continues to believe it. The odd thing is that other people would swear that he’s the real deal, and others are sure he’s a con man, but since he’s convinced himself he’s pursued nothing else.

He grew up in the Vadoma clan, not sure of his parentage exactly. He knew who his mother was, although she didn’t pay any more particular attention to him than anyone else. He was most often in the charge of Unazalina, the soothsayer, not because she had taken him on as an apprentice, but mostly because he wouldn’t leave her alone. She did develop a soft spot for the boy and taught him a few things like what the cards meant and how they should be used. He loved the intricate pictures on the cards and would often try to imitate them. This he was rather good at and he supplied the cards for the whole company, but he didn’t make too much money as a fortune teller, not only because he wasn’t terribly good at it but also because he wasn’t an old woman. It’s like there was a glass ceiling he just couldn’t break through.

He would sit in his tent, night after night, tossing his cards into a hat, bored out of his mind. Eventually he became so good at tossing cards, he would try to bank them off a board into the hat. He would go for longer and longer distances, throwing the cards harder and harder and after a while, they started to stick in the wood. Suddenly he did have something he could do better than anyone else in the company. He gave up hanging out in the tent and would set up outside the tent and do handstands and cartwheels while throwing cards into a piece of wood and suddenly he got more money than he knew what to do with.

Like any young man who had money in their company he was immediately conned. She was a dancer named Aishe who nabbed him up first. She would string him along and he would buy her gifts, thinking for a long time that she was going to be his and that she was impressed with him, but she was only using him. After a few months, he found her in the arms of another. He was devastated, and not being the type that would kill them both with cards in a fit of rage, he decided instead to pack up his things and go.

He wandered through the forest by himself for a couple of days, not really caring if he lived or died. He very nearly did the latter. He was beset by a troop of hobgoblins and even though he was able to kill a few, he was captured and turned into their slave for a few days until he was rescued by a pretty elf by the name of Shalelu. She realized he had some skill but was not cut out for wilderness living so she took him to Sandpoint and he’s been there ever since.

Crunch:
(well, all the decisions anyhow. I'll work out the details later.)
Tshilaba Vadoma

Misc.:
Like I said earlier, Fortune Teller. He's an odd one, but generally a nice gullible guy. I decided to go with low wisdom since I rolled that 7, and the rest of the idea spilled out of that. At first I was going to make him nearsighted, but all the background stories I came up with sounded like he was an oracle, which he isn't. I always have trouble making good names, so I picked up one of my old names from some other failed PBP's I did a long time ago if you are wondering why I've got so many posts under it.

I'm hoping you don't mind the Rough and Ready trait being used for his cards. He's learned how to make them into weapons at range, and ranged weapons used in melee is improvised. With that trait, he can use them in melee, although he won't be that good at it. I just like the idea of him not carrying any other weapons.

@Oterisk: Works for me. I'm already liking this guy. :D
@NarcoticSqurl: Why not be a cleric of Pharasma then? You pretty much nailed what their about in your description.

I'll jump in for this. I have a Treesinger druid I haven't been able to play at all. I'll need to modify him for this.

4d6 - 2 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 6) - 2 = 18
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 2) - 2 = 16
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 1) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 6) - 1 = 12
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 2, 3, 1) - 1 = 10
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 3) - 1 = 13

I can handle these rolls.

Actually, DM-Salsa, I have a question.

Would you allow me to take the Treesinger archetype with the ACG Hunter class? Everything I hate about druid is tied to wild shape, but hardly any archetypes get rid of it. Hunter has all I want for the character, except access to the plant companion.

Ok. Probably going to do a Male Aasimar if that's fine with you (15 RP). Otherwise I'll stick with Human.

Good sir! An issue has arisen! An Issue of vast and far reaching implications! I have not enough funds to afford both my stately and dependable Sword Cane and a handy hand crossbow!

In other news, I'm probably going for Empiricist now. That way I can grab Infusion and be of more use to the party. Poison is just a no, so I'm glad there is a archetype that rids me of it.
As for campaign traits, I plan on worshiping Sheilou (the ranger lady). She saved me from goblins and she hasn't stopped regretting it since! Not that I recognize this, of course.

Yep. As I said, anything less than 16RP

Presenting Vash Kandar, Olmek's second submission!

Lou is done all in the profile

I should be complete except for a few minor details. I haven't fully settled on Weapon Finesse, but it seemed all but essential for me. Also went with halfling, though he'll probably still be a gnome at heart. I have two gnomes already, so decided to play the race less traveled.

Edit!
Except for background and RP sample. That's a task for tomorrow.

Bah. I completely missed the RP sample and caravan roles. I'll work on that tomorrow.

I should've taken a closer look at your recruitment post; didn't realize you had another Barbarian in mind?

Anyway, I was thinking a tiefling Barbarian (this is an alias of Elise Warden btw) and started some of the crunch. If you have another Barbarian in mind though Salsa, perhaps I should go with something else.

In:
Ed Sobel - Lou Kasuri - Human Monk
El Ronza - Liera Mvashti - Tiefling Witch

Applying:
DM Crispy - ??? - ???
Oterisk - Tshilaba Vadoma - Human Cardcaster Magus
Olmek - Jin Thiesson - Human Ninja/Rogue
Olmek - Vash Kandar - Human Samurai
NarcoticSqurl - ??? - Aasimar Cleric
Calinthas Aldimay - Crimjak Agathion - Tiefling Barbarian
Choon - Sir Archibald Benedict Thunderblossom - Gnome Investigator
Zev - ??? - ??? Hunter

@Zev: Is there something other than the plant companion that you want from the archetype?

@Olmek: I think you mean the Kaijitsu family instead of the Lonjiku family in Vash's background. Other than that, it's pretty good.

@Calinthas: Don't sweat it. My plan was to have Noro and Lou be a brother-sister duo, and I was hoping to have someone decide to play her. I am allowing multiple submissions, and if you want, you're more than welcome to try applying as Noro.

Ah, gotcha... in that event, I'll proceed with building this character then Salsa.

As far as Noro goes, I'll pass on that; I prefer to build my own character as opposed to using the creative work of another player, but I appreciate the offer!

I'll have the profile updated and a roleplay sample later today; bit all over the place right now. I'm not sure on a caravan role - Liera's looking more to just get away rather than offer assistance. She has limited healing abilities, and a random rank in Craft (shoes), so there's that :P

I was actually wondering whether to take the hedge witch archetype for extra healing ability, but I'm also kinda wanting to stick with the vanilla witch and go full debuffer. Thoughts?

@Crimjak: That's fine with me. I was just putting it out there.

@Liera: Either one is going to be a good bet.
