Bloody Cobbles (Sannah and Zendara):

Zendara sends two arrows into Lord Ferrianus Dulci's back, killing him. The street is deserted, for now.

"Y-y-you k-k-killed him," Ellia says, covering her mouth with her hands. Her eyes are wide and she's pale, too pale really. After the brief, brutal fight has a moment to sink in, she faints.

The Smeltery (Drausk, Dr. Monroe, Egryzon, and Zaknador):

Just giving the others a chance to respond.

Bloody Cobbles:

Sannah catches the falling girl, looking at Zendara's back, "Indeed, she did..", with a grunt she tosses the girl up onto her shoulder, talking to the unconsious girl, "And he would have killed all of us to get this girl. then more to herself " I must check your Lord's chambers, see how deep his perfidy goes. " She leaves unsaid the desire to have a reckoning with Malgrave.

"Come!" she commands Audria, then trots up to Zendara, "Quickly, check Ferrianus for any papers, then we must make for the manor. Both for Malgrave and any information we can gather about Ferrianus' activities."

Harvesting from the Dead:

Relieved that Sannah seems to have a plan, Zendara nods and jumps into action. She addresses Audria You should probably check the guards to see if any of them have your stuff. She then turns to quickly search Dulci's body for anything of use. She casts detect magic to make sure she doesn't miss anything important, then drags his body back to the alcove with the others so that they aren't in plain sight. She helps Audria finish up, while keeping detect magic active, just in case Audria's holy symbol is to be found.

After quickly checking pockets and scanning for magic (and allowing Audria to get a weapon or whatever she needs), they join Sannah.

Only then does Zendara start to worry what the consequences of defending themselves are going to be.

Kassen Battle Maps | RotRL Battle Maps

Sannah and Zendara:

Ellia is the one that passed out, Audria is still standing. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Searching the bodies quickly, you don't find anything of Audria's. All through the process, the silver-haired girl is silent.

Give me a Perception check to find anything on Lord Ferrianus's corpse. Actually give me two perception checks.

Exit, Stage Left:

Since Audria is silent, does she seem horrified-upset, or just thoughtful-upset?

Hmm... probably can't tell.

Perception rolls for Dulci's body:
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

As an experienced pirate, Zendara automatically takes all jewelry and anything remotely interesting, in this case including papers since Sannah asked for those.

Also, since she has detect magic up... magic items should be a given, shouldn't they? Doesn't the spell make magic things glow or something? I mean, given, I probably wouldn't see it if he had glowy underwear, but other things would be more obvious.

As they leave, Zendara asks Audria, are you okay?

Kassen Battle Maps | RotRL Battle Maps

Sannah and Zendara:

Re: Detect Magic - you can find any magic items on him by concentrating for at least 2 rounds. I'll get you a list of loot tomorrow.

{ooc]As for Audria, it's more thoughtful than horrified.[/ooc]

Audria shakes her head at Zendara's question.

"I don't like killing people," she answers in a soft voice.

Oh, makes sense. I didn't really think of the time factor. Thanks. :)

As they get some distance from the bodies, Zendara responds to Audria's comment.

Audria, I'm so sorry. Killing is not a choice anyone should have to make. If there were another option, we would have taken it, but I don't think there was one in this case. Sannah's right. They would have found a way to enslave you and kill the rest of us... if not immediately, than later.

Do you know why they are after you?

The Sun and Moon:
Egryzon is stricken by a pang of guilt; he can't help feeling responsible for Red's current situation. "Why didn't you tell me?" he hisses to Red. "We..." Egryzon trails off, shaking his head. It looked as if he might have to talk this through.

"Smith," says the kobold, addressing the fat man, "if the elf isn't lying, we...both might be responsible. You couldn't wait for Red to return. I didn't care that she had other business. If it would help, I can go to your nephew and look for the item." Egryzon hesitates, then adds "For free."

Sannah and Zendara:

Zendara can hear the approaching guards. You only have about two to three minutes before they'll be on you.

Given that, I'll just list the things you could easily get.
- 1 sapphire sphere about a quarter inch across that radiates magic.
- 1 masterwork Halberd that's easily worth 500 gp.
- 1 masterwork mithril dagger.
- 4 spears
- 4 shortswords
- 1000 gp in coins, gems, and jewelry on Lord Dulci and the guards.

After you get away and Zendara asks about Audria being okay.

"I know," she says sadly, "and it's not the first time I've killed people."

When asked if she knew why they were after her, she looks to Sannah and Zendara, judging whether she could trust them or not.

"I... I do, but... I... I..." her voice trails off, and she looks away, her expression troubled.

The Smeltery (Drausk, Dr. Monroe, Egryzon, and Zaknador):

The fat man calms down somewhat, but he is far from pacified.

Dr. Monroe:

Spoiler:

You get the feeling that the fat man has it out for Red in some way, though he does believe her responsible for the theft.

"I don't need you to go fetch my nephew or be questioning me about my own business. Even if she didn't steal it, it's gone and her mitts were the last ones on it. Her eyes were the last ones done seen it! As far as I'm concerned, she's a bloody thief and it ain't worth having her around!"

Red opens her mouth to protest, and likely fire back at the fat man, but he snaps at her, cutting her off.

"Get out o' my smithy! Get out an' don't lemme catch your face around here again or I'll make it a lot less pretty," he snarls.

Trembling with rage, Red turns on her heel and storms out.

Just the Four of Us:

We leave the spears and shortswords behind unless Audria wanted one of them as a weapon.

To Audria: It's okay, you don't have to tell us. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. We're going with Sannah because I think she has an idea about how to find out who attacked you. If we can find that out, we might be able to track down your stuff. If you have a different idea though, just say the word.

To Sannah: He didn't have any papers on him, sorry. Some other stuff though if we're in need of bribes she glances meaningfully at unconscious Ellia. And softer, so Audria can't hear, Are you certain this is wise, going to his house? I don't want to voluntarily jump into another battle just now, or endanger the girl.

As they walk, she examines the sphere:

Zendara:

As you examine the sphere, you feel something pull at your mind, then feel as if you have a second mouth. You can also here other voices, one of which you recognize as Malgrave's.

You're certain?

Yes, Master Malgrave, another voice answers. All of them are dead. It looks like they searched the bodies, the damned vultures.

Did you find the Sphere of Voices Lord Dulci had on him?

No sir.[i]

[i]Then we best not use them until his is found. Once you are done there, meet me at the Sun and Moon. We have a young, fiery artificer to nab and I'd like for something to go right today.

Sannah and Zendara:

Nope, she'll take the halberd though.

Audria shakes her head.

"I'm sorry, it's not that I don't know, but... I... I don't want to get anyone involved in this. The people after me are ruthless," she says.

On Sannah's shoulder, Ellia groans and begins to come back to the realm of the waking.

adjustment for low knowledge:

I didn't realize that had actually posted last night because the site went down, so I didn't see that my roll was so low. Here's updated dialogue after the knowledge check for not knowing where the Sun and Moon is, as needed. Just leaves it in a place of wanting to do something, rather than headed off to do it:

Do you know where that is? He also mentioned that they were going to kidnap someone else... a redhead. And I was telling the absolute truth about not wanting to walk into a battle, but if we can find it, it would be nice to stop him from harming someone else.

To Audria: It's okay. We choose to become involved. Malgrave is off to kidnap another girl it sounds like. I don't want you in danger, but I also don't want him hurting any one else, you know?

Xavier didn't really know what to make of that, it smacked of pure misogyny but he didn't know the full story and besides it was none of his business anyway.

"Hey I'm sorry about all that, I er...", Xavier's voice trailed off. Meaning Red and the smith.
Starting again he points out, "We didn't find out if this junk was enchanted or not. I say junk, some of that is solid platinum, so it's possible. Look I never got round to introducing myself properly, I'm Dr Munroe, I work in the antiquities department at the Akiheton Guild Arcanum. I can check if there's any enchantment on them if you'd like..."

If the smith agrees, he'll cast detect magic and concentrate for three rounds. I almost wanted to say the Arcanum might potentially buy them if they turned out to be something of note, but I don't want to overstep the mark.

Sannah and Zendara:

Keep it, she's going to be giving it back soon enough.
Ellia complies as best she is able, though given her recent experiences, she's understandably shaking with fear.

"I-I can walk," the young woman says before shaking herself and asking, "can I stay with you? I-I can't go home."

Fastforwarding things.

Even though it's a long trek to get to the smithy, your hustle manages to get you there fairly quickly.

Unfortunately, it seems that Malgrave is already there and guards are forcing their way in. Next to Malgrave, struggling to get free, is a young, red-headed woman.

If you're joining into the mess, go ahead and post your actions.

Drausk, Dr. Monroe, Egryzon, and Zaknador:

Before the fat man answers, Red's voice comes from outside.

"Hey! Let go of me!"

It is soon followed by another, more aristocratic one, this one a man's voice.

"We have her, now get in there and kill them all."

The doors burst in and six guards wielding bows kill the fat man and the younger man that was in the room with a volley of arrows. Behind them come another six wielding spears that swarm in, looking to gut you like fish.

- Dr. Monroe

I use block initiative for most fights. What this means, if you're unfamiliar with it, is that Zaknador will go, I'll post Malgrave's actions, then Drausk and Egryzon will post their actions. Whoever posts first acts first. After them, it's the guards, then it's Dr. Monroe and Zaknador again, with the first player to post going first. This will (Hopefully) keep things moving. Most of the time I will simplify this even more, but I wanted this one to feel a little more chaotic.

By the way, Zak, you're up!

She then turns back to the Smithy, and begins to trace different esoteric patterns in the air, lines that slope and descend, then fade from sight...

The Smithy:
When the door burst open and a volley of arrows pin cushioned the smith, Dr Munroe cried, "Yikes!" He noticed a squad of spearmen behind, somebody was trying to ruin his day!

This situation took him back to the lessons his long suffering weapon master Yontan of Zunger had drilled into him. Yontan had bombarded him with one utterly desperate hypothetical situation after another. 'How do you deal with archers Xavier? You slap their arrows out of the air and close, that's how! Do pay attention Xavier, how do you deal with superior numbers? Take the fight to them and don't get hit...'

'Solid advice I suppose.' Xavier thought wryly. He muttered something and suddenly there where multiple Xaviers!

Malgrave and the guards are surprised as they find the ground in front of the door suddenly slick. The surprised man looks around and sees Zendara aiming at him. As his eyes widen, the arrow streaks in and slices open a gash on his arm.

"I should have guessed you would come here like fools," he says more in annoyance than anger, "you've cost me much this day and you continue to be an aggravating fly buzzing about."

Outside, you can hear crashing and cursing. It sounds as if Malgrave has his attention otherwise occupied.

Zendara, in a sickly-sweet voice:

Oh, Anderson, so good to see you again. And such witty analogies too. It's a pleasure just to listen to the words pouring out of your narrow-lipped, ugly little mouth. Flies buzzing. You figured that out yourself? Bravo!

Accosting girls seems to be your trick of the day. Does abusing women make you feel like a man, honey? If some insect fisherwoman is getting in your way, why don't you come over here and put her in her place? I'm standing here, just waiting for your guiding hand.

She continues to goad him, trying to get him angry enough to come after her and maybe give the redhead a chance to escape.

Your friend Dulci and I had the most lovely conversation earlier. Funny how such impressive power just seems to melt away when you shoot it the back a few times.

Just a free action, not trying to take an extra turn. Zendara just really, really doesn't like him, and feels like expressing that, in case she doesn't get a chance later when he's dead. Moments later, the ground beneath the feet of a cluster of guards glows in a similar fashion, then splits apart to produce a yawning pit.

Zaknador walks through the throng of bodies and towards the door...making sure that he steps on no one or any area that is under as spell effect. The guards are out of it for now...so who sent them and why? Where did the woman go to?

Guardsmen...is your master worth your life. You have poor taste in employers, cease all hostilities...surrender now and you may yet live.

Once out side he takes in the scene...
Hmm maybe now is not the time for dramatic intimidation...Grab the bully by the horns then....
Good Sir, there are delicate ears about. Please watch your tongue as it is not needed to get your message across. There are plenty of brothels that cater to your....charms...seek your pleases with them and release the woman...now.

Take your time to think on it. We are not going anywhere.

Zaknador....there's a grease spell in effect, centered on the door, not sure how you'd step around it...

Fluid like water, Sannah moves to engage Malgrave, coming in opposite the red-head he holds fast.

Hands and feet moving in a blur, Sannah strikes out at the duplicitous noble...

Opps, I did forget about that...will edit it in new post
As Zaknador approaches the well placed and obvious grease spell he enacts an magical ability and walks just above the grease spell. His feet are few inches over the area of effect and he touches down on the other side of the spell.
Not sure if I can do this or not. It is more flavor than actual game mechanics. Levitate spell like ability to lift himself just a few inches above the ground and let his momentum take him over the grease spell. Then letting the spell effect drop as he clears the area. I will leave it up to you DM

Drausk spits out the blood he was granted via the bloody chunk he snatched. He swallowed down the warm bits and laughed.

"Eh not bad bet the noble tastes better. But first, lets see how he dances!"Drausk says standing outside now and letting his glowing form get brighter as he calls upon the innate magic coursing through his veins. With words flowing from his drooling maw that was still a bit stained with blood. At the apex, he threw his hands out wide before his right-hand thrust forward and fired arcane bolts that looked like dart sized sapphire dragons. The two dragons flew towards the Noble Malgrave.

This is Magic Missile. With a dramatic flare!

Still here, I'm just waiting to see what Malgrave does before posting :) If Xavier can't see him, he'll try and get outside.

I was waiting for Malgrave as well, but ... I guess it's super unlikely that I don't attack him, no matter what he does.

Zendara moves to 30 feet out and fires again.

Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13

Unfortunately, she is so angry with him, she misses.

Zendara takes a few breaths to focus again. She stops the insults so she can focus on finishing him.

Everything happened at once, The Smith and the guy next to him dies in a hail of arrows. Then in the blink of an eye the dozen or so guards has been decimated by fell magics. There where still a few left milling around, between Xavier and the exit. He sprinted to punch one, swinging wildly his focus having been shattered by the outlandish events.

Egryzon delays.

The guards struggle to get back on their feet, the lone standing guard of the first wave screaming about orcs ripping out throats. One of the three guards that does manage to find his feet soon falls back to the ground after Dr. Monroe snaps his neck.

Seeing that his troops are out matched and not fancying a fight outnumbered, Malgrave withdraws and leaves the gathered warriors with a message.

"Relish this while you can. I shall not forget this, nor shall the Order," he says before disappearing down an alleyway.

Party up! You've got six guards on grease, two standing, and four napping, what do you do?

Audria, stay safe. I'll be back.

Zendara follows Malgrave in order to rescue the redhead. That was her whole purpose for coming here. If he was withdrawing she should be able to get him in sight with a move action. If so, she shoots:

Attack Malgrave: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

If for some reason he could withdraw with the redhead faster than that, she will double move to chase him.

The redhead managed to get free. Malgrave is alone. But, If you want, I'll allow you to use that 19 to track him or for that parting shot.

Hmm. Hard decision. I guess she'll take the parting shot. It's a crappy idea to leave an enemy alive, she knows, but Zendara thinks she might be able to get another clue from the communication sphere, so if she can only do one or the other, she shoots him.

As Malgrave retreats, Zendara pegs him in the shoulder. Before he disappears, he levels a deathly glare at her, promising her a slow and painful end.

And with that, we only have the guards left. It's unlikely that they'll do anything to you, so just tell me what you're doing and I'll describe what happens.

Are there any guards still standing? Killing all the disabled ones is a bit too bloodthirsty for Dr Munroe...

Assuming none of them resist, Dr Munroe removes a coil of rope from his pack and starts tying them up.

If they do attempt to resist:
Dr Munroe punches hard, trying to knock some sense into them. He pulled the pinch slightly, he wasn't judge juror and executioner after all.

Two Guards are standing.

Dr. Monroe swings at one of the standing guards after he tries to avoid getting tied up while Drausk tries to navigate the slippery patch. Unfortunately, he slips and lands on top of the prone guards.

Sannah meanwhile chases down Malgrave.

"Persistent, aren't you," he sneers before putting a little distance between him and the woman chasing him. He focuses his attention on some inner well of power and a shimmering wall of arcane energy appears between him and Sannah. Are you going to try and get around the barrier?

Zendara wants to go after Sannah to help, but is also torn by the need to make sure that their charges are okay, as well as ensuring that the redhead will be okay. She gathers up Audria and Ellia, and keeping well out of the way of the battle which seems to be well in hand, circles around to where she can talk to the escaped redhead.

Hi. Are you okay? I'm Zendara. This is Audria and Ellia, and my friend Sannah is the one running after Malgrave to finish him. Malgrave tried to kidnap Audria here earlier today, and when I heard that they were going to kidnap you too, I came to make sure they couldn't. ... Do you have any idea why they were after you? That Malgrave is a nasty piece of work, isn't he?

As you know, he likely owns half the town and can bribe and coerce almost anyone to do anything. I don't want to scare you, but you aren't safe. The only people we know we can trust are my group, and probably that group over there, finishing off the guards. My suggestion is that you stay with people you know are willing to fight for you, or get out of town. Malgrave won't stop. I picked up Audria in an alley, left for dead this morning with all of her things and her special holy symbol gone, and then Malgrave comes after her again while we're at the healer's place. The guy is insane.

Sannah skids to a stop as the glittering wall appears, "Very..." she answers Malgrave's sneer.

What's involved in getting around the barrier?

@Sannah: You'll have to navigate around. Unfortunately, it'll take about 7 minutes even with your enhanced speed to do so through the twisting alleys and streets.

No option for up and over...say a cool parkour-like move up the wall to the top of the barrier , then over? :D
