Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag points to the stables indicating he is heading that direction to look at what is there before going to the main building. It was strange but the sight of orc and worg bodies without the signs of other bodies gave him some hope. Hope that whatever happened here there were survivors that took care of the fallen defenders.
Move 20ft NE to look at stables and C2a...

Kurag creeps up to the stables, which looks like it would hold two horses. The horses are there but the attacking orcs slaughtered the steeds, and several black-tipped javelins now pierce the unfortunate beasts’ flanks.
Kurag sees two dire wolves feasting upon the freshly slaughtered horse carcasses.
Wolf 1 Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Kurag Urlot III |
Not wanting to face 2 wolves on his own Kurag retreats back to be able to whisper to his allies what is waiting for them in the stables.
stealth 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Once safely back, 2 wolves munching on the remains of 2 horses in the stables. They were too preoccupied with their meal to notice me. No sign of any orcs though. These wolves may have just arrived after smelling the horses and weren't part of the fight.
Bormann Grimm |
"Let's deal with them now. If we draw more attention from orcs while doing so, we'll kill them in turn. They'll soon regret cornering us." Bormann advises, clearly itching to get into a fight.
BB Beetle |
"Dire Wolves, eh..." BB ponders. "Yeah, it's best we engage them now, maybe we can scare them off. The last thing we want is them at our backside while we struggle with orcs."
Kurag Urlot III |
Sounds like a plan. Our guys up front and I will cover you if any orcs decide to come running at the sound of fighting.
Kurag notches an arrow and waits for Bormann and Sergei to lead the charge.
DM RichD |
Marching up to the wolves with the fighters in front, the wolves hear your approach and seem angry that their meal is being interrupted.

Nice hammer blow there Sergei. That weapon suits you well. Still nothing like delivering some pain from long range though.

Bormann bounds past the stricken beasts to a position where he can see past the farther corner of the outpost. His axe is held ready in case some other creatures were rushing over to aid the wolves or investigate the commotion.
BB Beetle |
BB completes casting and summons a fire beetle just in time to watch the carnage unfold. He summons the beetle next to Sergei. "Maybe the beetle can take a few hits for ya?"
The summoned beetle lasts for 4 rounds.

Kurag finds no traps going up the stairs and sees that the door is not locked. He hears a guttural language being spoken behind the door. He can make out some phrases in orc such as 'Tell us what we want to know!' and 'Just kill her now. She ain't gonna talk!'
Kurag Urlot III |
Hearing the sounds coming from the other side of the door Kurag turns to the others whispering quickly. We need to hurry, they got someone captive inside. Door's unlocked and not trapped.
He then steps aside to let Bormann or Sergei burst through.
Bormann Grimm |
Bormann may not know the specifics of the situation, but it involves orcs holding a captive and that's enough. Bormann bursts into the room looking to put a good, solid hurt on his enemies.
If we manage to get surprise and I only get a move action, I'm going to plant myself next to the hostage (assuming I can reach there) so that I can interfere with any attempts to cause harm to anything that isn't an orc. If we don't get surprise but I have a good spot in the initiative and can move and attack, well, let's just say I have a primary target...

"Phew. Now then. Ma'am, are you alright?" BB heads over to untie her. "Our ship got here maybe an hour ago. The captain said things were peaceful here when he departed from here 15 days ago." BB shakes his head. "Trunau just survived an orc raid."
DM RichD |
As you walk over, you see that the knight has been badly beaten. Thank you friends! My pride hurts the most. Despite this assurance, you can see she has suffered quite a bit. My name is Brienne of Tarth Calrianne Blix. Trunau was plaged by orcs you say? This is very troubling. Very troubling indeed! It seems like something has stirred up all these orcs! This way-station is a disembarkation point for people and supplies heading inland to Castle Firrine, and these foul beasts wanted to know all about the castle. I have held out against their efforts, but I am glad you came when you did. I suppose these orcs wanted this information for no good. She then thinks for a moment. Ship you say? Did you come with Bloodtusk? He is not apt to have dwarves in his crew. she looks puzzled.
BB Beetle |
"Yeah, Captain Bloodtusk is fair...ish. Trunau pulled some strings and let us sail here after we helped the town."
"It sounds like Castle Firrine is our next destination. We gotta find out what those orcs are up to! Hey, how do we get to the castle? Do you know of any shortcuts?"
DM RichD |
Your actual mission-Vault of Thorns then Redlake Fort
Calrianne rests her hand on BB's shoulder. That is very kind, Noble dwarf, but these orcs did not get any information from me, nor will they return with any. Bloodtusk's arms will go a long way to defending the castle-unless castle Firrine was your original destination?
BB Beetle |
"Oh, wait! I remember. Our eventual destination was Redlake Fort. We needed to stop by the Vault of Thorns along the way, too." He helps her stand up.
