BB Beetle |
"Well, I can't let you poison the crew!" BB reaches for a jar and fills it with the broth. "Man, the captain's gonna be pissed." BB heads towards the captain's cabin, catching the party's attention. "Well, I know what's up with the girallon. We gotta tell the captain, quick!"
BB's Lawful Good and will submit to the Captain's authority. If he were CG he would have fought the chef!
BB Beetle |
"Oh no, I'm not that dumb. The last time I tried that I spent a month stuck in a cave in." BB jogs upstairs towards his nearest party member.
Kurag Urlot III |
If Kurag sees the commotion going on and BB approaching he will stop his actiivity at the stables and head his way. Upon hearing what is going on Kurag looks as well to more of the dwarven company. Do you want me to keep an eye on the chef while you go talk to the captain and the rest?
DM RichD |
BB Beetle |
"Thanks, Kurag. I'll get Sergei, keep an eye on the chef. Besides, we got proof of his treachery."
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag snorts a derisive laugh at Gashnakh's bravado. That is some bluster you have there. Pulling his bow and notching an arrow Kurag continues. I bet an arrow in your foot will be enough to slow you down yet keep you alive and easy to track until the others show up.
Not keeping his eyes of the orc Kurag nods to BB, I got him covered. Tell Sergie to come quickly though just in case there is trouble.
Sergei von Janderhoff |
Assuming that is what next happens...
Sergei comes down below deck; his weapon is not drawn, but he does not seem to be in a particularly good mood.
"So, I be hearin' that we might be havin' a lead on the one responsible for all these mishaps...?"
His voice trails off when he sees the chef.
With a sigh, he listens to the story of what has been uncovered thus far.
"Look laddie, we be nae threat to ye and yers, so I dinnae understand why ye have been doin' this. Tell us who is really behind all o' this, and maybe we can put in a good word with the Captain, to avoid a keel-haulin'."
DM RichD |
Gashnakh waves dismissively at Sergei and starts to turn around then sees the sharp point of Kurag's arrow and thinks better of it. He stands there sullenly waiting for the captain.
Bloodtusk is at the helm when BB bursts in. What is the commotion down there on deck! Why aren't you and Gashnakh preparing today's meal? You better have a reason for this! he roars.
BB Beetle |
BB holds up the jar. "I was cookin'! And then Gashnakh sprinkled something into the food!" BB catches his breath. "This is the stuff that poisoned the Girallon yesterday and ran wild."
"When I asked him about it, he suggested to someone- female, that's all I know- to feed this stuff to the crew. He could have made them sick, or worse!" He looks at the jar. "I caught a sample of how he ruined the meal. I ran up here as soon as I could."
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 16
BB sighs. "Man, now I gotta dump everything out and start from scratch..."
DM RichD |
Bloodtusk is so angry he is visibly shaken. He leaves command of the vessel to Coxswain Halrex and marches over to the hostage cook.
What is this I hear of you poisoning the food! he roars.
I...er..you can hurt me but do not hurt her! Gashnakh stammers.
Who is HER? Bloodtusk counters.
Melira in the pump room! A15 the cook answers quickly and with regret.
The captain turns to BB, Sergei and Kurag. Since you all came aboard, we have had nothing but problems! Take care of this Melina or Melira or whatever her name is. He motions to two of his crew. Bound up Gashnakh until we can sort this out!
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag nods his understanding to Bloodtusk before heading out. On the way he grabs the others as he asks Do we keep her alive for questioning? She might be raking orders from some else not on the ship?
Bormann Grimm |
"And I thought dwarves shouted a lot. But the craftsmen I worked with were never like this," Bormann says in an unusual expression of humor.
When he hears of the situation, "A stowaway? That may explain the sabotage... or it may not," he adds darkly. "Let's see what this is about."
BB Beetle |
"Hey Greta! Bormann! We might have found the source of the Girallon attack. Some lady named Melira. She convinced the cook to poison the meal I made. Hmpf!" BB seems disappointed and annoyed.
"It might be trouble, so get ready." BB intones arcane words and moves his hands carefully, ending with a clap. Translucent armor surrounds him like a thunderbolt splitting a tree.
I'm casting Mage Armor.
Kurag Urlot III |
That is a good question Greta and one that we hoepfully will get an answer to from this Melira.
Kurag muses aloud though as they continue on. Strange though that she should be in the pump room. It seems like a dead end with no way of escape. Either she was clumsy or over confident in her ability to remain undetected. Either way she may fight like a cornered rat or try to damage the ship. We must prepare for both eventualities.
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag will take his place in the back unless he is wanted upfront to look for traps. if possible he will hang back a ways to make sure there is no further talk on deck about the dwarves.
perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
DM RichD |
DM Roll B=1, S=2: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Greta, followed by Bormann, Sergei, Kurag and BB descend to the lower bowels of the boat.
DM Roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Greta is so determined to talk down this mysterious sabatuer that she does not realize something was not quite right with the door until she opened it.
A loud, deafening noise erupts! In addition, tentacles snake their way out and start constricting Greta!
@Greta: DC13 Escape artist check or DC25 Strength check. The trap also has 3HP.
This takes place at the door located in A13 heading to A14 in the Keelboat Map
BB Beetle |
"Greta! I don't think Merila is in the mood to talk." BB prepares to punch the trap and destroy it.
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag quickly grabs his bow and notches an arrow. That's it next time let me go first to clear the way for traps. I'm going round back. Kurag then hurries back the way they came and passes through A10 to get to the far side of the ship.
Hopefully he can cut off any possible retreat or escape from that direction.
Bormann Grimm |
Bormann gives Greta a chance wriggle free, then he chops away at the tentacles.
greataxe: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
damage: 1d12 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
DM RichD |
Greta, feeling that Melira is not up for a woman-to-woman talk, lets Kurag take the lead followed by Bormann, Sergei, Greta, and BB bringing up the rear.
@Kurag: Give me three perception checks DC13.
Kurag Urlot III |
Sorry site was acting up and couldn't get on the past 2 days.
Perception checks
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 +2 if orc +1 if trap
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 +2 if orc +1 if trap
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 +2 if orc +1 if trap
Only through extensive training and keen eyesight is Kurag able to spot the traps ahead of him. Pulling out his master work tools he gets to work to bypass the traps.
Disable device checks
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Careful guys. 3 more traps here. Kurag then stows the tools and picks up hisbow ready to advance.
Man talk about some bad rolls. Also for future reference Kurag has trapspotter rogue talent that gives free automatic check within 10ft of a trap. Go ahead and roll for me if you want to on those.
DM RichD |
Kurag advances with his bow and sees that the door is not trapped. He opens it expecting to see Melira but is surprised to see nothing. Nothing that is until an arrow comes sailing out towards him and a young, human woman appears and says, Finally we met! I will no kill you all personally!

BB Beetle |
"Finally we meet? Have we met?" BB seems legitimately confused. Still, it's clear she's up to no good. BB runs up, next to Kurag and frowns when he sees the arrow fly. "Drop that bow missie! You have a lot to answer for. Ruining my stew, for one thing."
BB casts Grease on her bow. It's a DC 15 Reflex Save or she drops the item. She has to make that save every round every time she tries to pick up or use the bow.

Round 1
BB runs up next to Kurag.
Reflex Save DC15: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Melira feels her bow slipping, but with a smile she retains her hold. No! It is you that have a lot to answer for especially the wrong you did!
Attack 1 (Kurag): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
Attack 2 (BB): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Damage Kurag: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
One arrow flies to Kurag hitting its mark, the other barely misses BB. You also notice a snake at her feet begin to slither towards you.

Everyone else give me your round 1 action.
BB Beetle |
"Oh boy." BB shakes his head and then is started as the arrow bounces off his magical armor. "Yeah, she's beyond talking. Time for a citizen's arrest!"
Kurag Urlot III |
Thanks Greta.
Kurag feels the impact of the arrows hit him but ignores them in the rush to close with the human archer. Running forward Kurag drops his bow and lunges with arms outstretched.
Grapple check with guidance 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 = 8 so much for that
Bormann Grimm |
Bormann's not entirely what's going on. Clearly the girl is holding a grudge, but he doesn't know why and, at this point, she seems uninterested in explaining herself.
"I do not know who you are or what transgression you think we are responsible for, but if you've been trying to kill us you will answer for it." Bormann says as he advances. He doesn't strike at her, though, choosing to leave her to Sergei and Kurag. Rather, he chops at the snake.

BB Beetle |
BB was thinking of closing in, but it's gotten way too crowded. He heads down the stairs, mumbling magic along the way. He then touches the three dwarves in front of him. "I'm guessing she's a little evil. This should keep the bad stuff away."
Casting Protection from Evil, Communal on Sergei, Kurag and Bormann. If Melira is evil this will give them a +2 AC and +2 Saving Throw bonus against her. BB will be right behind Sergei.
If she tries to use her bow again, she needs a DC 15 Reflex Save to hold onto it.
