Dang! You all are kicking down doors and taking names!
Round 8
Sergei hustles forward and before the smaller drake can divert its gaze from the Alpha, he cuts a huge swath accross its back killing it.
Bormann hustles forward as well and likewise, delivers a similar cut but the Alpha keeps its footing.
Kurag, stuck in the mucus, delivers the killing shots and Greta puts one in the corpse for good measure!
Out of round mode.
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag extricates himself from the spittle that entangled him throwing his arms down in disgust. Looking at Sergei Kurag can't help but give him a small smile. Lightheartedly, Thanks for coming and helping out. I was thinking I was going to have trouble dragging these here drakes back to the ship with just me and Lucky. Cleaned and quartered I figured they would taste like chicken and BB could use some new ingredients.
Picking up his dagger and sheathing itKurag turns a bit more serious. In all honesty though thanks for coming after us. 1 drake I maybe could have taken but not both if they attacked together. Your arrival was perfectly timed. As he sees the dwarf search the nest Kurag heads over to Lucky before helping search.
Rubbing the horse behind the ear, Lucky, you and I both earned that namesake this day. Let's not try and have any more adventures like this. I am a dwarf and you are a horse. We need to keep our feet on the ground until such time as you sprout wings.
DM RichD |
The horse lovingly nuzzles Kurag and whinnies softly.
Searching the nest you find the following:
Lying among the reeds in area B2b is a
mud-caked +1 buckler,
a masterwork heavy pick,
an elixir of swimming,
an oil of flame arrow,
a potion of resist energy (electricity),
a scroll of spear of purity,
11 pp,
40 gp,
70 sp,
and a bloodstone worth 50 gp.
Bormann Grimm |
You didn't honestly think we would leave you, did you? I wouldn't put it past our captain, perhaps, but we would run that boat aground rather than leave you to the drakes' mercies. Now let's get moving before he leaves us all behind."
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag chuckles wryly as he tries to let some humor in and hide his concern that he may have felt. Leave me? Absolutely not, but I din't know if any of you could find your way in the wilderness without me. I thought I would have to kill the drakes, free Lucky here, and ride out to find you roaming the wilderness. Good thing you guys showed up when you did...thanks again.
Ohh, dibs on oil of flame arrow! and the buckler if no one wants it.
DM RichD |
As you head back to the boat, you see Bloodtusk preparing to shove off. Has it been fifteen minutes already? He asks (It was more like five!). I Was holding out for you! Oh! I see you brought my Aunt's horse back! As you get on the boat, Bloodtusk roars, Enough delay! Everyone to their posts! Let's get under way before we get more and more behind!
Kurag Urlot III |
Eventually Kurag makes his way to the ship leading Lucky gently along. As he hears the captains comments though his blood begins to boil. All right Bloodtusk enough is enough. I can see that you were so concerned about Lucky here that you didn't even bother coming to save him yourself. In that case I think it only fair that I keep him and the horse I brought along as well.
DM RichD |
The Orc stares at Kurag, not sure if he should be angry or amused. The rest of the crew stop in their tracks to see how this is all going to play out. A few seconds pass before Bloodtusk says, Well now! Look who slayed some drakes and found some backbone! I like spunk - just not among my crew! Tells ya what...You keep putting that backbone where yer mouth is for the rest of the voyage and we'll see if ya keep ANY of the horses! Now get back ta mucking those stables!
@Kurag: Feel free to add anything more.
The tension broken, the crew returns to their tasks and the boat is swiftly on its way.
That night at dinner the rest of the crew want all the details on how you all defeated the drakes so fast. In spite of the natural rivalry between the two races, you sense the crew views you all with respect.
One of the crew turns to BB, Hey! Is this drake we are eating? and the whole table laughs.
Feel free to add anything more.
Morning comes! Everyone give me your rolls and is Greta the only one down below rowing?
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag lets out a loud laugh at Bloodtusk's comments about backbone. Its a good thing then that we are not truly your crew as you'll find we each have enough to suit you. As for the horses, there is no way you are keeping me from my rightful property.I am honor and duty bound to clean the stables but that is where your dictatorship over me ends.
Long week at work and thinking I am venting my frustrations oni Bloodtusk. I guess we will see where this leaves Kurag.

Kurag seethes and mutters as he heads back the stalls to clean them out. Yet once he reaches them his countenance changes quickly as he works witht he animals. They were not the reason for his ire and he should not take out his frustrations on them. Instead Kurag forced himself to spend extra time with each one not just Lucky. Speaking soothing words of comfort to them he soon learned their individual habits. To make matters even more enjoyable for Kurag he started to train them to come to him on specific whistles. Each one had a particular series of notes that made it much easier to move them about the area. Giving a horse a small whistle brought him away from his stall so Kurag could clean it. The same whistle brought them back to the stall as well.
Kurag was quite pleased with himself and even figured he might teach them to muck their own stall or at least do their business on teh deck so Bloodtusk and his crew would have to worry about it.
Bormann Grimm |
Bormann gives the issue some thought. "Someone already tried to kill me by sabotaging the rails where I was working the fishing nets. They would be foolish to try that tactic again, so they may try some other trap for one of my comrades."
Bormann decides to forego fishing in favor of joining Greta with the oars.

Greta and Bormann are rowing and it seems that Coxswain Halrex is glad Bormann is helping out as opposed to just poor Greta.
The other rowers are singing an orc song to help pass the time and keep a rhythm for their monotonous task when suddenly the door in the back of the ship bursts open and a huge four-armed gorilla like creature emerges with a roar!

Bormann jumps up from his rowing bench, scooping up the axe resting beside him. He steps out onto the central walkway and shouts in response, "Looking for a fight, are you? Well, come and get some fight then!"
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag hears what could only be a minor explosion coming form below where Bormann and Greta are located. Quickly calming the horses to keep them from being spooked Kurag grabs his bow and heads down to see what the screams and shouts are about.

Which side do we come in on for the hold? Hopefully the left side...Kurag skids to a halt in surprise at the unexpected sight. Since we did we get a gorilla on board?
Regardless of the answer the problem and solution is quite evident. Moving up 20 feet to get closer Kurag draws back an arrow and releases it at the gorilla.

As Kurag gets back to the stables, he overhears Bloodtusk and Halrex speaking in orc:
Halrex: The creature is dead and it wouldn't be if you didn't leave its cage unlocked.
Bloodtusk: Watch your tone woman! I have the only key and it was locked!
Halrex: Perhaps there is a connection between the cage annd the broken rail?
Bloodtusk: Are you suggestion a saboteur? We do have all these dwarves running around.
Halrex: Unlikely since one of them almost fell victim to the broken rail, and two of them would have been in danger from the girallon.
Bloodtusk: Remember the same dwarf was the potential victim in both. Perhaps he is not as popular among his friends as he thinks! Keep an eye on them!
Halrex: Yes captain!
Halrex then departs and Bloodtusk then notices Kurag. He snarls and says, Keep them stables clean! and he too departs.

"I don't know why they hell they had something like this aboard. Someone must have found it valuable. We should drag it up on deck and throw it overboard for all to see," Bormann says with a straight face but a wicked glint in his eye.
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag said nothing as the exchange takes place as he makes his way to the stables. The exchange was enlightening to say the least. It would seem that Halrex and Bloodtusk did not see eye to eye on what was happening on the ship. Yet ironically neither one of them seemed like a threat to the dwarves. Each had their own suspicions but denied their own involvement to each other. Kurag was too noticeable though in his approach to the stables as Bloodtusk hollered at him to muck the stables.
These stables are cleaned already. I took care of it before that 4 armed gorilla showed up.

Are ya sure?
Meanwhile following Bormann's suggestion, several of the orcs help him drag the carcass topside where they join Bormann with a loud yell as the girallon is dumped overboard. The celebration is muted as the ever-present crocodiles launch into a feeding frenzy-tearing the corpse to pieces and coloring the river red!
Bloodtusk watches this with a sad look in his eyes.
That night the crew feasts on BB's Drake Steak!
Nighttime is uneventful and a new day dawns.
Everyone give me your rolls.
Kurag Urlot III |
Kurag nods his head at the stabels Yeah I am sure unless one of the horses just messed it up while I was downstairs. Enough of Bloodtusk Kurag heads to the stables anyways for some better company.
The night comes quickly and Kurag finds himself looking for his friends after eating the Drake Steak! If at all possible he informs them of what he overheard and wonders if they should start keeping a watch among themselves at night just to make sure nothing happens to them. Things are getting more and more dangerous the longer we stay on this boat. Sooner or later whoever is behind this is going to get more desperate and take more offensive action. We need to keep an eye for whomever and whenever that happens.
If they agree Kurag volunteers to watch half of the first night as mucking the stables isn't all that taxing for him.

"You think this is sabotage? Like there's a traitor? We'll need some proof before the Captain will listen. But I can take watch." BB will take the watch right before the dawn so he can study in his spellbook.
"Hehe, maybe I can cook the traitor out." He grabs slab of crocodile flanks. "Now you add some potatoes, carrots, make a stew and add the secret ingredient." BB holds a mashed black mush between his fingers. "Crushed grasshoppers with lemon zest."

Bormann is content to watch for a couple of hours overnight after Kurag's shift.
In the morning, Bormann will rejoin Greta at the oars.

The orc begins to stammer under BB's barrage of questions. Uhh...Yes it did need extra flavoring...Please don't dump it out! Uh...I have not been spiking all the meals! I was adding it to the girallon's food and now since the girallon is dead I suggested to her using it in the crew's food!
BB Beetle |
"That poor Girallon was sick! You can't just feed it to the crew. Wait- who did you suggest it to? Who is 'her'?"
BB realizes he has to tell the Captain, fast.
