Naberius snaps his fingers towards the bodyguard's sodden costume, making the damp spots of gravy dry and flake away, leaving nothing to remind of their presence. He stays silent through the argument, looking conflictedly between Mera and Monday. While he had little sympathy for the whipped waiter, he certainly did not want to anger both women by speaking up on either side...

The wizard furrows his brow, and pauses to pick a strip of worg meat off of Tal's shoulder as he helps him with the straps on his armor. "Yes, we should stay focused on the mission. Presently, I suggest that we try to find the majordomo's office. I imagine any documentation having to do with the architecture of the structure would be stored there."

Mera throws open the door, done with conversation. She looks up and down the hallway for any signs of anyone approaching.

Where are we on this three story monster?

NARRATOR GS Map / SS MAP/

Here is a MAP of the first floor.

Some of the places you have been:

A1. Manor Grounds: The grounds consist of a lawn of green grass with a simple dirt path connecting the various entrances—during the gala, a temporary canvas-covered shelter runs along the central path to protect guests from the rain as they approach the manor entrance.

A2. Stables: Arvanxi’s horses are kept here.

A3. Entrance: Thickly carpeted and well lit, the walls of this manor hang with numerous paintings of past Westcrown mayors and nobility. Fully two-thirds of the spots are empty—their portraits and paintings having been seized and destroyed long ago by the House of Thrune. The stairs lead up to area A31.

A19. Garden of Earthly Pleasures: Although seemingly open to the sky, the upper portion of this garden is in fact a permanent image maintained by the pit fend. The illusion matches the real world’s day/night cycle, but the sky is always cloudless and either sunny or full of stars. A quaint wooden bridge arches over a river that flows from a large devil’s mouth mounted on the north wall to a pool in the south—a magically maintained pump recycles the water under the garden and back up to the mouth to create a perpetually flowing stream. The banks are thick with wildflowers.

A21. Banquet Hall: This immense chamber is pleasantly heated by six huge fireplaces and lit by constantly glowing crystal chandeliers. The walls are decorated with unsettling landscapes of twisted hellish realms that, upon closer inspection, seem to depict Westcrown as if it were located in Hell itself. Two thick, wooden pillars carved to represent tangles of serpents rise to support the roof above, and a
balcony for observing the banquets here from below winds along the east and west walls at a height of 15 feet. The largest feature in the room is a huge, “H”-shaped table—this is where the Cornucopia takes place.
Two other features are present in here. To the northeast stands an immense grandfather clock whose sides are carved to depict hungry devils chasing 12 unicorns, its bells deep and ominous when they strike the hour. About 20 feet south of the clock in the eastern wall is a huge black stone door, 6 feet wide and 14 feet tall. Beyond this door is a stone staircase that leads down to the dungeons below the manor—the Nessian Spiral.

Here is the room that you are in now:

A28. Private Lounge: This is a comfortable lounge with a private bar along the western wall used sometimes by Mayor Arvanxi when entertaining special guests.

Where to next?

The wizard leaves Monday to help Tal with his armor, instead trailing after Mera. It was apparent that the singer was emotionally compromised, so Naberius made sure to try redirecting her frustrations into something productive.

"I have a plan," he says calmly. "Take this potion. It will allow you to momentarily assume the visage of another person. Choose someone who will not be directly linked back to us, or our sudden absence from the festivities. Perhaps that fop, Thesing, will do. Ask a servant to escort you to the majordomo's quarters, and the rest of us will follow you from a distance."

It's a potion of disguise self. The effect will last only ten minutes, but that should be enough to get us where we need to go.

Mera shudders at the thought of becoming Thesing, but agrees with the plan. "That will work, I suppose." Reaching out she takes the potion and pops the top and takes a deep breath. She closes her eyes and envisions Thesing in her mind before downing the vial.

After the potion is gone she clears her throat and does her best Thesing impersonation. She turns back to the group and recalling a statement Thesing made several days prior says, " My winkles, few as they are show that I have experience and make me appear worldy instead of the fresh face of youth that others have where they have yet to experience life!"

When ever he is finished with Monday helping him with his armor Tal nods his appreciation to her. Thanks Monday. And for what it is worth I appreciate the fact that you did not approve of what went on back there. Once we get out of here I will have a talk with Mera about the way that she treats people.

Now is not the time though as we have work to do. Tal gives a slight bow extending his hand towards the door. Ladies first.

Hopefully as they exit they catch sight of Naberius though Tal stops short when he hears Thesing's voice. Looking at Monday once again, This might get a bit more difficult if Thesing is here.

Thesing moves towards Tal and Monday, looking them up and down. In a mocking tone she adds, "Well, well, well, look who it is? It's a shame you had to go and ruin this party before it even got a chance to start!"

Hitching her thumb over her shoulder she points back to the room with Naberius in it. "Your other half is waiting for you in that room over there. Now, get out of my way you pathetic ingrates."

Mera-Thesing pushes past both Tal and Monday and moves down the hallway. She turns the corner and spots a servant cleaning a nearby room. She makes her way towards the man slowly, allowing time for Naberius to fill in Monday and Tal and catch up slightly before beginning. Once she is nearby the man she calls out loudly, "Oh for Gods sake! Hey! You there! Yes, YOU! Hrmmph!" He throws his hands up in the air, exasperated. He marches toward the man and speaks down to him. [b]"Well it's about bloody time I finally found someone in this poorly run outhouse! Look man, I was supposed to be meeting the majordomo in her office five minutes ago, but the last imbecile send me here! I mean, this does not look like her office. Tell me, now. Where am I to go from here? Quickly now, I haven't got all day and I won't tell her that you made me later than necessary."[/i]

The servant was just leaving the private baths after ensuring that everything was presentable. These nobles sure liked to get dirty as has already been the case and the Lord-Mayor will want to ensure that the baths are presentable. The servant then thought about poor Oswald. The beating was finished and Oswald had been cast out into the street, bloodied and naked. The servant shuddered at the thought when a booming voice awoke him from his daydream. The noble seemed to be addressing him and was quite agitated.

Yes, mi'lord. I don't know who told you that the majordomo's office was on this side of the banquet hall. Her office is on the other side of the banquet hall. If mi'lord will follow me back to the banquet hall, I can bring you to the majordomo and either she or I will help continue your journey to her office. Good! the servant thought, There is no way for this to be blamed on me and I end up like poor Oswald!

The servant starts to head back in the direction of the banquet hall.

Tal watches Monday and the kukri curiously. You wield that well but I don't think that right now is the moment for blood letting. By all means though if we have to I prefer that you know how to use that blade.

Tal stops talking at once when he sees Thesing. Really I am even surprised that you showed up at all. Who invited you anyways? I thought Mera threw his invitation away?

Tal moves aside for Thesing as he storms past but not before he sticks his leg out to trip the pompous a$$.

Careful where you are going. I wouldn't want you to run away like you did last time.

Turning to Monday with hand extended to escort her along in a gentlemanly fashion, Come Monday. Let us leave this trash on the floor where it belongs.

------------------------

When filled in by Nabe about another charade of Mera's Tal cringes slightly at tripping her on the floor. It only lasted a second though as Tal justifies it to himself that if she was not so impetuous and communicated with the rest then she would not have ended up in that situation. Come on, lets just hope we are not too late and she is making us jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Naberius nods slowly as he answers, his tone a mix of mockery and that of a wearied parent scolding a child. "Yes, I suppose that is a perfectly reasonable excuse for assaulting a person. The very same person that I specifically requested you avoid antagonizing. As we are on a life-threatening mission in the middle of enemy territory. Undoubtedly, such a brilliant tactical manoeuver would put even General Vourne to shame."

While he speaks she keeps her forehead lowered to the floor, clenching her jaw until he is done. Once he is gone she finally climbs back to her feet and approaches the servant. When the servant mentions going through the banquet hall however, Mera grows irritated, raising her voice to a stern reprimand "No, no, no! Don't you dare take me back into the banquet hall now. I'll look like a fool! Do you want me to look like a fool?! Take me another way that does not involve disturbing the event any further than it already has been."

Leveling his finger at the man he states clearly, "I do not want to see another single soul on the way to this office, and I want to be there immediately. Go. NOW!"

The servant is confused. Oh! I am going to end up like Oswald! Mi'lord, I do not understand. The only way to get to her office is through the banquet hall. I mean we could go through the The Jungle of Nectar A23, bit since it has open doors to the banquet hall, you will most likely be seen, especially by the majordomo, which..uh..excuse me for saying, kind of the point? He holds his breath as he contemplates how bad the lash will sting.

Mera put her hands on her hips. "I need to speak to the majordomo about an issue pertaining to his grace in private. Do you think I want he, or the other guest to see me speaking to her about such an important issue in public when it is so sensitive? No, of course not. That is why we are going to speak in private!"

Sighing he starts randomly pointing to rooms in the hallway. "So this isn't her office? What's this room then? And this? That looks like an office over there, what's that? What about down the hallway there? Or at the far end next the room with the gardens, what did you call it? Jungle of Nectar?"

After soliciting information about as many of the rooms on this side of the estate as possible she sighs heavily, talking to herself. "Oh what to do, what to do? This is going to be so embarrassing and I simply cannot have them see me reenter the room from the opposite direction because some fool sent me the wrong direction to begin with! I really don't want to let his lordship know that one of his servants sent me on a fools errand when time is so sensitive. I really don't."

She hangs her head with near defeat when suddenly she lets her face reflect a brilliant idea. She puts a hand on the shoulder of the servant. "What is your name?" After getting the man's name she digs into her coin pouch and withdraws ten gold coins and places them in the mans' palm, closing his hand around it. "Ok listen man. You are going to help redeem the dignity of all of the staff right now and fix this issue. Right? I need two things from you then."

"First, give me solid directions. Once I cross through the Jungle of Nectar, where exactly do I need to go to reach the office? Think carefully now, I do not want to end up in the wrong place."

As Mersing puts the gold coins in the man's palm, he is ecstatic! He will get rid of the foo-foo lord and collect a small fortune! The servant thinks for a second as he maps it out in his head.

First you want to go into the shrine there. A24 Then open the door on the right-hand side to The Jungle of Nectar. The opening will be on your right. A23 Continue straight and you will enter the wine storage room. A18 Proceed to the opposite door. If you are meeting the majordomo in her office, make a right and proceed to the door at the end of the hallway. Open the first door on the left. This leads to the Entrance that you arrived at. Then when you leave the wine storage, make a left and take the only door you see. This is where some of the other servants stay. A10 Proceed to the door at the opposite end and make your first right. With the servant gone, Mera locates her companions and relays all of the information that was passed along to her. "The room we seek is on the other side which means we need to cross through the gardens here. There is a fair amount of cover, but you still will need to employ some stealthiness."

During the casting process, a word was designated to transmute it back to its original form, but it could be practically anything..."

The wizard scans the room one more time, seeing if there is anything that could give a hint as to the nature of the password.

There were no other written materials in the room, right? You know, personal interest stuff. I'm trying adventure game logic here, but its worth a shot... :P

What's the poem, or doe it just say "bad poetry"?

"Cool." Monday muses while she looks over the magic page.

@Naberius: Nope. Nothing else in the room. It is surprisingly spartan.

The AP just says bad poetry, but how can I not try to write what it says? Here goes:

If I ever wander so far
as to go to Magnimar

If I ever meet an elf
never concerned about wealth

If I ever drink from a flagon
given to me by a dragon

If I ever slay a zombie
who lived and died by the sea

If I ever see a goblin
play sweet music from a violin

If I ever met a Chelaxin
who was busy relaxing

If I ever became a pathfinder
I would never need a reminder

If I ever marry into royalty
I hope my beloved is pretty

Thank you! I'll be here all week! :P

Where to next?

Hey, I like your poetry!

Mera observes the party while they search the room. Once Naberius makes his announcement about the spellified parchment, Mera puts her hands on her hips. "This place seems clean and that may be what we need, but it could be completely unrelated. Is there anything we can do to decipher here or will it just need to wait?"

Looking around the room she sighs, "Ok, we didn't get what we need. Shall we continue our searching then? What is the best manner to approach this problem in? I can't say this is something I'm used to do. Shall we check her office now?"

Naberius neatly folds the page of poetry, slipping it into his breast pocket. He does his best to arrange everything in the chest as they found it, and motions for Tal to close the container.

"There is no guarantee that this of any importance," he admits. "However, it is presently the only lead we have. Perhaps someone could talk to the majordomo and learn of her interests—that might give us a hint as to what the password might be. Otherwise, I suggest that we move on to the office. There must be some documentation about the layout of the building in here, somewhere..."
