Blocked by Tuesday and Raveen from moving into an attacking position Tal still pressing the advantage as he moves through Raveen's position eliciting an open shot from the mummy. Once past the rogue Tal continues to attack with power.

Round 2
...and now the ready action goes off. Not that it'll kill him if neither Tal or Raveen hit the guy. He is pretty well surrounded now, though.
Seeing the 'mummy' dodging his allies' swipes one after one, Naberius sighs and takes the shot.
What a waste...
Mera Wist-Thrune |
In order to take a shot at the mummy Mera would have had to had line of sight, so I envision her two east, one north minimally.
DM RichD |
Round 2
Raveen tries to slash Ostengo with his dagger but misses. Mera tries to shoot a crossbow bolt at Ostengo, but in the commotion of melee, the shot goes wide. Tal tries to skewer Ostengo with his sword, but misses. Naberius shoots another magic missile at Ostengo. I assume the 4 damage was for the first readied action, what is the damage for this one? Ostengo, seeing how his first spell almost worked, figures he will try it again. Casting defensively, he points to Tal and says, YOU REALLY WANT TO GO HOME NOW!

I believe I am at -A-9, while Tal is at -B-9
"Stand down NOW!" the man shouted, stabbing forward with his blade--then dropping his retreating knife at the last moment, and drawing out his shortsword with a flash to stab at the creature's side instead.

The mummy being surrounded by Raveen, Tuesday and himself the blows start to rain down upon it. Adding tot he mix Tal treis to swing at the creatures head to take it off in a clean stroke and end the threat. When in doubt, take its head off. That should kill it, Tal muses to himself. Responding to the mummy as it tried to tell him to go home again and feeling no compulsion this time. No I will not. Now it is your time to pay the price.

Round 2 Cont'
Monday surveys the situation as Tuesday misses with one fist but his other fist plows into the side of Ostengo.
Round 3
Raveen decides he has had enough of Ostengo and slashes him with his shortsword. As Ostengo falls, Tal also gives him a powerful blow with his sword as payback for Ostengo trying to cast spells on him.

Raveen Liquean |
@Tal: That would really suck. Are you considering taking Iron Will?
The masked man examined the fallen sorcerer, and ran his eyes quickly over the room. He then removed his mask once he saw no other enemies, and ran his hands over his enemies' bodies, examining what they had.
Take 10 on Perception of the room (16), what the enemies have, and any noises in the next room. Once this room is perfectly clear, he began removing the bandages carefully off the mummified creature, ready with his shortsword if it rises again. Once that is finished and he knows what they're up against, he's ready to move to the next room
Naberius Belthrune |
Naberius walks over to Raveen as he starts looking over the 'mummy,' attentively examining the body over the younger man's shoulder.

Tal Bernard Mainz |
Tal helps with the separation of the mummy's wrappings by using the point of the sword to cut the bandages. Tal does not want to touch the creature directly should it have some form of disease under the bandages. Once it is cut and unwrapped then he stands back to allow the other to examine the body closer. When they are finished then Tal will position himself towards the next door to open it and move farther into the complex.
Actually Raveen that is my level 3 feat once we get there.
Mera Wist-Thrune |
Mera asks tenatively, "Is it over? Is it safe?" She lowers her crossbow and walks up to the mummy-ish creature.
I'm supposing my K:R of 11 didn't come up with anything earlier?
Looking it over she asks Naberius, "Any idea what this is?"
She stands a few feet away from it, just in case you know, it jumps out at them.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
Looking back towards the others Tal answers Mera's inquiry. It is as safe as possible thus far. They are defeated and not moving. What may lie behind this door though I do not know.
DM RichD |
Seeing no other enemies, you all unwrap Ostengo's wrappings. You discover a male Tiefling with withered, hard skin. Naberius (14+12 Knowledge Planes)seems to recall a fact that some tieflings have fiendish traits and muses if this 'mummy' was actually just a tiefling that just looked like he was undead and maybe used the mummy wrappings to intimidate.
Searching the room, you see the six crypts each containing a stone sarcophagus. Each sarcophagi contains a shrouded, desiccated corpse. Not uncommon in a temple of Erastil, there are no valuables with the corpses (or they were looted by the tieflings). At the front of each crypt, there is a brass plaque that lists the name and dates of birth and death for the deceased. There are no other valuables in the room.

"And here I thought I was prepared for everything," he sighed. The man slid on the mask. "Let's continue on before we're noticed."
Take 10 on Perception
He moved to the north-eastern door, and drew out his crossbow, loading it. He nodded to Tal, readying his action to shoot anything inside.
Dibs on the tanglefoot bag. I'll leave the rest to be tallied later. Welcome back, DM.

Good to open the door when everyone else is. NE door is fine by me.

The man nodded at Tal, preparing to shoot.

As Tal and Raveen move towards the northeastern door, Naberius glances towards the southeast, from which the sounds of growling seem to be more adjacent. Nervous about leaving enemies at their backs, he whispers, "If you two would rather go after the more distant targets, could we at least barricade the other door? I do not like the idea of getting flanked..."
Looking to Raveen, he asks, "Can you tell in which direction these shops you scouted earlier might be from our current position? We should aim to clear these crypts before venturing into the sewers, or whatever tunnels these wretches might be using to scurry from one hole to another..."
Judging from the previous map, whatever is behind the SE door would be more likely to still be a part of the temple's basement. I might be completely wrong, of course. Still, I'd rather check that first. Feel free to tell Naberius to keep his tactical insight to himself if there is a conensus against him.

@GM: Can he estimate how which direction leads to the shops?
"Good point," The masked man turned to glance at Naberius, and nodded, whispering, "I have something that might help."
He drew out a dagger drawn from one of the Tieflings, and wedged it deeply into the NE door to block the door temporarily, motioning at Tal to check their backs first.
He then holds his action against the SE door.
Hope that keeps my crit
Tal Bernard Mainz |
Tal shrugs, 1 door is as good as the other. If you wish we can clear this one out first.
Tal then moves to open the SE door.
DM RichD |
@GM: Can he estimate how which direction leads to the shops?
Tal and Raveen are about to open the northeast door, but Naberius recommends the southeast door instead. Temporary wedging the northeast door, Tal and Raveen head to the southeast door. With a nod to Tal, Raveen draws back his bow.
Surprise Round
Tal kicks the door open and Raveen shoots one of the dire, burning wolf skeletons, wounding it, but not for as much damage as he thinks it should have been.
The rest of you get either a move or attack action.

Naberius waits for Tal to act, before flicking a magic missile at the wolves. He will aim at whichever wolf is more hurt (or more likely the one that is still standing) after Tal goes.

Tal Bernard Mainz |
RichD was Tal's attack on the surprise round? If so then Should Tal be able to go again this round before the skeleton dogs? If so then here is my attack as follows.
Power attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 for 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Hopefully enough to kill the 1 dog
cleave attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 for 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
If there is room Tal will step forward to allow someone else to attack as well.
Tal Bernard Mainz |
I thought the surprise round started after the door was open. you are correct on the door taking a move action just I didn't follow the timing. In that case...
Oww, I am going to need some help here! These things are burning me up quick. Move back so I can exit and someone else close the door after me.
Tal will provoke if necessary after he attacks to leave the room to allow someone else to close it.
Naberius Belthrune |
So does Naberius' surprise round action happen? If Tal uses his surprise round opening the door, Naberius would just have shot the one Raveen aimed at.
Round 1
As Tal starts shoving his way out of the room, Naberius snaps, "What?! If they are giving you a hard time, what do you think they are going to do to the rest of us?! Stay where you are!"
The wizard scowls and flicks another missile at the undead hounds.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
DM RichD |
Makes sense that opening the door would be before the surprise round. Therefore your first attack happened in the surprise, your next attack happened in Round 1. The wolf is still up.
Round 1 (Continued)
Mera [BOT] starts to sing +1 to attack I believe? over the growls of the wolves. Naberius, not wanting the undead wolves anywhere near him, fires off a magic missile from the wand. Only one charge has been used unless you want the surprise one to be used? The wolf skeleton tries to bite Tal.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
The bite misses, but the heat from its fiery aura burns the warrior.
Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Next up Monday and Tuesday
By the way, I am changing the name of the Tactical Map to CoT Tactical Map as I have just started a recruitment thread for a GiantSlayer campaign, so soon there will be a GS Tactical Map.

that Skelton is still up after that last hit!?! Dang it has some hit points (30+). I may have to retreat after my next attack at the rate the fire is getting to me.
Naberius Belthrune |
Round 2
We should at least retreat to a point where only one of the wolves can attack at a time, and perhaps get more than one person doing damage. Where Naberius is currently positioned, for example. Perhaps we should also switch Tuesday up to the front, since his slams do bludgeoning damage.
Naberius flicks his wand at the more wounded skeletal wolf, and slinks back to the back of the group, giving Tal some room to retreat.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Move back to square D10.
Masked Conspirator |
Temporarily tactically-braindead Maskedman agrees with this sound telepathic suggestion.
I'm getting the feeling Tal is going to go 'I told you so!'
Addendum:
[Move action: Move to C-9 (Mera)or D-9 (Monday), depending on who wants to move out of the way.]
"Please move further back. It's a tad crowded in here," he said to Mera, pointing back at where the ominous glow originated--followed by the scent of iron and Tal's searing flesh. "Tal? You can move now."

Naberius Belthrune |
Cringing at the sounds of the skeletal hounds clawing at the door behind Tal, Naberius lets out a sigh of exasperation.
He clears his throat, saying, "Well... That was unexpected. We might have to come back to deal with those horrors, but for now it might indeed be best to focus on finding the ringleader..."
Glancing worriedly at the door, the wizard mutters, "If he is able to create or control such things, I am afraid this Palaveen might be more powerful than I thought... We should be cautious."
@GM: Perception 16.
Looking around for something that can serve as a cudgel or a club. Can he find anything?
Raveen's eyes might be drawn to Naberius' cane, which is currently stowed away at his satchel. I've got that written up as a club. :)
DM RichD |
A singed Tal closes the door and from the other side, you hear scratching, growling and howling.
Even with Naberius' magic missile and Tal's last attack, the wolf was still up and did:

Tal's HP Total is now 11

Looking around the crypts, for something that can be used for clubs you see the crypts containing the skeletal remains of the Erastil priests with femurs looking like it will fit the bill. A bit more sanguine but less sacrilegious are the limbs of the Tieflings you just slew. A butcher debones meat, can it be that hard? You also remember tables and chairs in the upstairs room.
You still hear the growling behind the northeast door.
