The group makes their way past The Killin Ground to the inner wall of the Inner Quarter. With a bit of effort, they squeeze through a narrow spot below the inner gates lookout tower.
Ahead, one of the towers is now a smoldering ruin.
Between the towers, below the cliff, a crumpled body lies behind some buildings which have been ruined in the raid.
Zigil "Stardust" Aul |
Thought I posted this earlier, but I see that I didn't.
From the dead orc, Zigil would've handed one potion of cure light wounds each to Slei and Eldan (so everyone has two) and would've grabbed the belt pouch, caltrops, and cash for safekeeping. I've updated my character sheet accordingly, if that's okay. (If not, I'll take it out.
Zigil "Stardust" Aul |
You were at -1 during the last battle. Since then, Ziggy's done 14 points of healing with channel energy and given you one cure light wounds for another 6. So I'd say your stat line is now up to date.
DM Rambler |
Silvermane nods, raises his arms above his head, and transforms into a kestrel. He then flies towards the healing station.
The group slips through between the buildings, making their way back to the central roadway which leads to the gate to the Lower Quarter and the Hopespring.
On this side of the gate are a set of makeshift fortifications, and a familiar figure stands behind them, swigging from a bottle.
The source of the rhythmic pounding comes clear. A portcullis has been closed at the gate, and a score or so of orcs are trying to batter their way in with a ram. The portcullis will not last much longer.
It appears all that stands between the field hospital and waves of onrushing orcs is Sergeant Omast Frum.
Zigil "Stardust" Aul |
I dunno, if the DM says there's gonna be a more appropriate time ...
"Giles? Who are you agreeing with?"
Zigil joins Grodar and Giles, pulls out the banner and unfurls it. "Come everyone, stand beneath this banner. You too Sergeant Frum." (Sounds like Frum was alone, but if not, I'll include any other defenders as well.)
When everyone is beneath the banner, Zigil will intone the words: "Under the shield of the Inheritor, our sword-arms shall not weary!"
Afterwards, she looks around at the party and quietly adds, "And our bow-arms and our spell-arms and our blunderbuss-arms too."
So does the effect of the night's rest sober up Frum at all?
DM Rambler |
After Zigil chants the activation phrase for the banner, the sounds of battle suddenly go silent. All of the gathered heroes are suddenly bright to look upon, while anything more than a few paces away dims. A rushing sound can be heard, like a waterfall or maybe a murmuring crowd, with the sounds of horns in the distance.
The heroes find themselves suddenly invigorated as if they'd had a good night's sleep. Small cuts and scrapes heal and fatigue drops away. Eldan is able to quickly pull out his spellbook and study, and Zigil prepares spells like she normally does at dawn.
Everybody can adjust your characters as if you were starting a new day AND PUT YOUR CHARACTERS UP TO LEVEL 3.
After the spellcasters have prepared their spells, the world suddenly snaps back to normal. It's like no time passed at all.

While we are waiting...
A number of defensive enhancements have been prepared inside the gate.
There are two barricades set up on the hill leading up from the gate, with the upper one covered in sharpened stakes. A barrel placed by the lower barricade contains a glaive, a guisarme, two longspears, a ranseur, and a halberd. Two bundles of logs are tied up with rope just below the lower barricade. And a boulder from the bombardment sits in between the barricades, covered in some sort of tar.
DM Rambler |
Are the logs positioned in a way that they could be rolled down the hill to hit the invaders?
Indeed they are, after the invaders get through the gate. There is one bundle on each side. However, it would take 2 full rounds to untie them, or 2 characters 1 full round.
The boulder is also nicely rounded.Aegidius "Giles" de Hammo |
"I guess two of us should take cover behind each of the bundles of logs. I will take the one on our left with the barrel of polearms. We should be able to use those to fight over the barricade. Anyone who can use one should take a polearm.
Two stronger folks should be ready to set fire to the boulder and push it down the hill when the time is right. Maybe once we have at least 4 or 5 of them lined up for it. Maybe Grodar and Slei, since you two like to shoot from a distance?
Why doesn't Eldan come with me and Frum and Zigil take the logs on the right?
When it gets too hot, we will retreat back to the upper barricade where Garm will wait. Stay Garm, stay!
Sound good?"
Eldan Whitecrow |
"There were 8 Orc looters we didn't have the strength to confront back there. We might have to watch for them during this action. Also, with my renewed vigor, I have a spell that will damage the Orcs and slow them down, hopefully allowing us to deal with them one at a time."
Is there a map? I didn't see one in the Drive.
Sgt Frum |
Frum swigs from one of the flasks that Rabus gave the group and shudders.
"Grodar, you should leave that torch your carrying near the boulder."
"Get ready."
Any changes to where you're positioned on the Barricade map? Note that I just deleted the old folder, to make sure folks are using the new one.
Grodar Half-Blood |
Grodar leaves his torch near the boulder, and then goes back to the logs. Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17. I don't suppose there would be time to use one of the two rounds needed to untie the logs now, then finish it later?
Zigil "Stardust" Aul |
Would cutting the ropes be faster?
While Frum swigs the soothe syrup, Zigil will rest her hand on Giles' shoulder. "Iomedae protect you." She chants a few quick words and the piece of parchment in her hand turns to ash and disperses in the wind.
(shield of faith at caster level 5 (domain ability): Giles AC increases by 2 for 5 minutes.)
If there is another round before battle, she will cast bull's strength on Grodar. (+4 STR for 3 minutes.)
Then she will move to AH38, take a longspear from the barrel and be ready to strike through the barricade. (If she doesn't have time to cast the bull's strength before the orcs rush in, she will take her position first, and wait for a better time to cast.)
Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Eldan Whitecrow |
Eldan will keep the pearl of power handy in case he needs it but otherwise uses no weapons and if he can see over the logs clearly to cast spells he will move up as suggested.
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, random paizo dice!
