@Fearless, thanks for the reminder. With how all the Players are rolling, going defensive might just have saved your butt in this fight.

One rat seems to get a hold of Fearless, but a force seems to repel its filthy teeth just enough to prevent any real injury.

The Mariner exists the crawlspace and kicks at the small zoog nearby, but misses it completely. Cats loses another arrow. The Twin's eidolon strikes at the zoog, but the small creature is too quick for it.

The zoog turns on The Mariner, tentacles flaring in a threatening manner right before it leaps for his leg. Like a little weasel is thrashed with tiny teeth and claws, but is only able to give The Mariner a tiny scratch for all the effort.

Sighing with relief as the Zoog retreats away from him Fearless quickly leaps across the wall as he attempts to tumble past the dire rats and rush behind Cats.

He drips a small trail of blood along the way, holding his hand to his chest he tries to catch his breath.

Double Move as Acrobatics is half speed.

@The Twin. Don't worry, I think your first statement was fine. I was looking (a small bit) for reasons why this character might actually be willing to climb this chute. Keeping his "Non Aggression Pact" going with The Twin was one of the easier vehicles to use. And having a show of bravado seemed like a logical path.

Brother Butterfly moves up the chute and seems ever so thankful that he is away from the confined space. His eyes quickly see the small trail of blood and the red blotch on Fearless's shirt.
Fearless, I don't have good tools right now, but let me tend to that wound!

Brother Butterfly rips off the lower section of his shirt to use as a bandage, only to see that it's FILTHY. He's frustrated as he'd only do more harm than good with it.

Pinkie climbs out of the shaft and takes a quick look around seeing the Mariner fighting something again "Figures"and noticing the little halfling bleeding he quickly moves over and hands him one of the potions he found.

"Don't know if Brother B can get up the shaft so use that if you need to if not juts hold on to it."

Rolling his eyes he says a bit sarcastically "I'll give away what I want to give away......if you want it back go get it yourself.....oh yea I forgot."

Then looking back at fearless he continues with a grin "I didn't forget but he hates that"


Pinkie makes it to the boiler room and, noticing Fearless injured, readies a healing potion. With incredible nimbleness, Fearless dives over the rats and runs for safety.

Campre remains below, gathering supplies.

Following the zoog's chittering commands, the rats swarm The Mariner, but neither is able to get their teeth into him.

Brother Butterfly crawls out and makes it to Fearless, but having no magic left to heal him, attempts to bind the wound, unsuccessfully.

@BB: no, stabilize only works on characters bleeding at -1 hp.

"Hey! I'm fighting here! Cat your owns space!" Cats complains as Brother & Fearless crowd him.

With his bow nearly useless with so many people and monsters in the fight, Cats moves up to strike with this short sword.

"Hoo! Hai! Yah!", the Mariner skips around the snapping teeth then stumbled back, almost stepping on the talking snake. Back against the wall, he shoves the polearm at the small rat.

As the Twin finds himself alone with Campre, the half elf looks over the bewildered man. "Whelps..." he mutters with disgust.

Choosing to join those up the furnace vent, the Twin tries to climb up to join them.

As the dire rats move to fight the Mariner, some sharp teeth lash out past the stout man, trying to eat one of the rats.

The Mariner's sword clangs hard against the ground, rattling so hard in his grip that he nearly drops it.

Cats proves his skill as a mouser, skewering one of the dire rats clean through the heart.

The Twin's eidolon snaps at the rat, but come up short.

"Seems that none of us are very adept with weapons..." the Twin comments as the halfling's arm jerks as he pulls the trigger, causing it to slam into the ceiling. "At least no one has died yet."

Cats holds up the rat he just skewered for The Twin to look upon.

"Well, they say that those who can't do, sit back and catplain about the others are do," Cats says, trying to forget his last two arrow misses.

Cats shakes his blade to get rid of the rat.

"We just got these weapons a few cats ago...might need some time to adjust to them, you know."

Cats waits for his next chance to strike.

Pinkie moves around the edge of the room until he is in range of one of the rats and takes a stab at it.

Pinkie steps forward and stabs the remaining dire rat, injuring it badly.

Fearless fires his crossbow again, but luck fails him this time and the shot misses.

Cats moves up to jab at the dire rat, trying to mouse himself another kill.

"See? I'm quite the uh, mouse CATcher!" Cats shakes his short sword at The Twin, showing his improving prowess and familiarity with the blade.

Looking around for items in this room to use help stop the bleeding, Brother Butterfly's eyes dart left to right. Not really settling on anything in this sparse room of metal Boiler Pots and tubes, he tries good ole fashion pressure applied to the wound.

Um Fearless, that neckwound is bleeding bad. You may want to use the healing potion. I think The Mariner's wound can be fixed with pressure. yours needs bandages. Anyone have a bandage?

The Twin merely watches from the back line as he keeps one of his hands in his pocket. His fingers idly trace along the edges of the harrow deck and he riffles the cards occasionally, liking the feel of the card stock in his hand.

"The Brother's advice is sound. You will die at this rate." he comments as Fearless continues to bleed out. "Though you can become cat food for the crazy one if you die. I heard cats like dead bodies."

As one of his wards has taken the front line and the other has fled to the back, the large, 'card'-bodied snake slithers along the side of the furnace until he flanks the two remaining creatures attacking the lunatics.

"Hsssss... You have erred, but we ss-shall make it quick." he says before lashing out.

The Mariner stomps around like a crazed old derelict whose trying to exterminate field rats. He doubles up on the longsword grip and starts jabbing down like a hammer.

The Mariner misses again, and is probably going to need a wetstone after dulling his blade on the stone floor.

Once again, Brother Butterfly tries to stem the flow of blood coming from Fearless, but the wound keeps bleeding.

Showing how it's done, Cats skewers another rat!

The Twin offers his help in the form of gallows humor. His eidolon actually helps by biting into the zoog and taking hold with its jaws.

Pinkie has the potions.

Mariner, let me try and help you out with that wound. Yours is much easier to stem the flow of blood.

first aid: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Taking one of the empty pouches from The Mariner's belt, he uses that as a clean cloth to apply pressure and use as a small turnicate on the wound. It stops bleeding and a look at The Mariner tells Brother Butterfly that he's actually in good health from this combat. The bleeding vein that the Zoog bit into and opened was the only real danger.

Fearless catches a glimpse of one of the healing potions that Pinkie grabbed.

Grunting in pain Fearless leaps around the corner and dives into Pinkie's pouch as he begins to rummage around, jerking the man all around.

Finally finding one of the potions he rips the top off and quickly drinks the contents like a ravenous ghoul.

Done drinking the potion Fearless looks a lot better as the tear in his neck closes just enough to stop the bleeding.

Pinkie caught up in the moment lets his instincts take over and tumbles past Cats,comes up in a crouch and stabs his sword at the rat once again.

Deciding to ensnare the last remaining enemy, the snakelike creature wraps its scaly card-like body around the zoog, hoping to pin it.

Maintain Grapple-Pin: 1d20 + 8 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 8 + 5 = 30 Pretty sure that does it. >.>

As the eidolon slowly squeezes the zoog, the Twin looks on with a wry grin. "This is the end of the line."

The Twin holds since he believes the fight is effectively over at this point.

"Mind helping stop my friend from bleeding out, Brother?" he asks, hopeful the priest sees the logic in such an action.

Twin -I was about to suggest the exact same thing! I was going to get your permission and it's permission to help it.

It would not be smart of me to just assume he -or she- wants help.

I grab something from The Twin's backpack that can be used to help stop the bleeding for his Eidolon. I then move to it. Not helping just yet, but asking it the question.

Snake - Can I use a cloth to compress your wound and stop the bleeding?

Not knowing snake physiology i am going to take a minus 2 circumstance bonus on trying to stop the bleeding.

"Of course, he will only attack those who mean harm." The Twin says as Brother moves in and staunches the wound. "Well, hopefully..." he adds, possibly out of earshot as he really hasn't learned much about the creature yet.

The Twin looks at Cats, the man with two rats impaled on his blade, and experiences a jarring memory of a time long forgotten.

People and places are naught but vague echoes in his mind, but the smell of roasting meat over the sandy fire pit makes the half elf's mouth salivate. "Perhaps we should roast those rats you've skewered with your blade, Cats."

"They are conveniently already prepared after all." he adds. "And we could rest after the meal."

The threat of the zoog is clearly the farthest thing from the Twin's mind.

Talk of eating the rats causes Fearless' stomach to rumble loudly. He grabs ahold of it remembering he hasn't eating in nearly a day. That is equivalent to not eating for nearly a week but non-halfling standards and he groans loudly as if in pain.

"UHHHH! Don't talk about food!"


Pinkie circles the zoog and waits until its attention is focused on The Mariner before stabbing it with his short sword. It squeals and seems to curse him in a tiny voice, but is quickly silenced when The Twin's serpent snaps its jaws around the tiny monster's head. It twitches and goes still.

As Brother Butterfly tends its bleeding wound the serpent begins to eat.

Combat Over. The Mariner is still bleeding, so he'll need a potion or a heal check. Let me know which way you go and make the appropriate rolls.

There is only one door that exits from the boiler room, but the earthquake has destabilized the ceiling and wall around it, leaving it half- blocked by debris and wedged shut in its doorframe. It will take a couple hours to clear the way and get it open.

"Ah piddlecat," Cats says, surveying the doorway out. "It'll take us a while to clear this doorway. Might be that we rest a bit before we do? No sense in rushing on when we're tired, unfed, and injured. Besides, I need time for a shave. We all could use a moment of quiet after all that." Cats looks around to make sure there are no more foes.

With the wounded being taken care of by someone far more experienced Fearless grabs a few of the broken pieces of wood and creates a small fire within the furnace. The embers glow low so as not to produce too much smoke.

As everyone is resting he drains and cleans the pair of large rats and skins them. After inspecting them over for anything dangerous Fearless places them on the furnace grate, rolling them on a spike of metal here and there.

Once a golden brown he holds them up for all to see.

In a post above, I was able to heal The Mariner with First Aid to stop the bleeding. I got a 22 and the DC was a 15 - in case there were negatives applied to the situation.

Now that the adrenaline rush of combat has subsided, a certain realization comes over him. He is REALLY dirty. But that can be easily fixed. An equally important fact is that the box of equipment is down THERE. Between here and there is the damnable chimney chute. Everyone else has stuff, but he's only got the bag of shives.

Maybe he can politely ask Campre to pick up some armor and equipment and cut off the head of the Facestealer

Hmmmm.. maybe that last part is asking too much. Or, maybe it's something he will like to do.

Hey Campre, can you hear me? I need a couple favors. It appears that I wasn't very efficient in my time down there. Can you please help grab some gear for me? I know I will need armor and a backpack and some food.

Also, and this may be too much to ask, but if you can cut off the head of the Facestealer and put it in a backpack, that will help us prove that people aren't who they appear. When we meet "REAL" people , we will have to explain ourselves and they will want proof that we weren't the psychopathic butcherers.

BB listens to the answer. He then straightens up and starts to get undressed down to his small clothes. He finds a basin or bowl like surface and almost instantly fills it with water. The water seems to just pour out of his hands and the tide level in the bowl just rises to a safe margin below the rim. He then starts to clean his face and body. Next, he works on his clothes scrubbing them together and ringing them out. Placing them on top of one of the working boilers too dry.

He stands there pondering his next move.Almost naked, in just his blue skivvies, he stands there.

While the others take a rest Pinkie gets bored and pokes about the room looking for anything that might have been missed.

"I know I Know.....I told you I will.....Yes.....Oh ok now your chiming in also.....well I can't get anything done with all your babbling.....Oh give me a break you did not show me anything.

@Pinkie: I think we're taking 8 hours to rest up.

"There you go, you get working on not bleeding to death."

Cats gets a general feeling (possibly from BButterfly's droning to put everyone to sleep) that now is a good time to relax, make camp, and finally shave.

Bringing over a container, he asks BButterfly for some water. With a tip of the cap, Cats breaks out the mirror to examine his face...a face he does not recognize, nor remember. It bothers him, but it bothers him more that he doesn't know what he looks like.

Breaking out his prized strop kit (with mirror!), Cats spends several moments examining this face, his beard, his hairy hair. Grunting and pondering, he lathers and begins to shave and cut and shave and cut...

...clumps of hair and beard fall to the floor. It's clear that he's shaved before (even if he cannot recall it), but his hands know how. He seems really intrigued to note that he has quasi pointy ears, and unlike some goons, does not have any crazy harrow symbols burnt into his flesh.

"Hey...hey guys!? I think...I think I'm not human! Or only somewhat human. I'm not like a freak dwarf or cat or anything...but maybe, half-human?" Cats asks, looking for confirmation.

He shaves and cuts, cuts and shaves, making a mess and asking BrButterfly for water refills more than once.

When he is done, he looks different. He would say he looks more like himself, but he has no idea what that might be.

"This is what I cat like? Hmm."

Cats looks at himself in the mirror, finally seeing the true him. He's not ugly, might even be striking, with strong features and a nice smile. He smiles at himself.

"I catting knew it. This is me. This is the new me."

Fearless is so focused on his 'cooking' that when he turns around he is caught off guard and surprised by Cat's new look and Brother Butterfly's bathing in the confined room.

He jumps at Cat's new look and dives to the ground for his crossbow. The cracked wood shakes in his hand.

"I KNEW YOU WAS ANOTHER SHAPESHIFTER!"

He points the crossbow at Cat's midsection.

Putting his hands up to show he's defenseless - but the fact that he has almost no clothes on - clearly indicates that he's unarmed
Fearless! You have EVERYTHING to worry about, but Cats and I are not it. We are the same - we were really hairy and used the GLORIOUS straight razor to clean up. Please know that I am still the same long winded talker that you've known for the past 4 or 5 days.
In fact, I am in a great mood right now. Getting shot by someone I consider a friend and his crossbow would really ruin the good groove I am in. Please don't shoot me. Or my friend Cats for that matter.

I told you before, I think Desna can detect FaceStealers. I don't expect you to fully believe me, but I can possibly tell you who you should shoot with that crossbow.

Feeling refreshed for the first time in, literally, memory Brother Butterfly is clean and pure and confidently in tune with his Goddess.
Prior to now, he felt he was at the Asylum for a good reason. But part of him had some doubts. At this very moment, he KNOWS that Desna has placed her servant in the middle of this chaos for an AMAZING reason.
Him, Brother Butterfly, is a light onto this dark island of insanity. He is tasked to heal and watch out for his fellow man. He is to watch and protect. Just like a Watchman.
Inside and out, he is clean. He feels invigorated and starts really twisting the hairs of his mustache as he thinks, " As soon as my folks are rested and ready, we are going to kick this Calamity's ass."

He takes some time to administer to the wounds of each of his colleagues. Cleaning the wounds to make certain the rat bites don't get infected. He makes a mental note to try and collect clean towels for bandages in the future.
BB then takes about 10 minutes near the door. Sitting Indian style with both hands on the wooden surface of the door. His eyes are closed and he concentrates.

I first use Doorsight to see the area outside. I then use detect Aura for a while to see if anyone inside is evil or has evil intentions.

After a while, BB gets up, puts on his clothes -if they are dry- and grabs a bite to eat. Probably some Kenny Rodgers Roaster Rat .

Making certain someone is on nightmare watch, he says his prayers to Deana and gets some rest on the cold hard ground.

Good Night my friend Cats. I like that new look for you. Good night my friend Fearless. You did great in freeing us from the cells. Good night my new Watchmen. Tomorrow we will reap what Lamashtu and the other evil Gods have sown.

The Twin, listening to the ruckus between the three fast friends, feels the Snake slither over to him and begin to coil around his leg, slowly traveling up his body.

The slightly injured eidolon hisses into the man's ears and the half elf looks a bit intrigued. Wordlessly, you see the Twin disappear back into the furnace shaft before Fearless has a chance to start working on the actual cooking of the dire rats.

Clonk! Clank!

As Fearless peers down into the furnace to determine if the Twin is ever coming back, the snake slithers up first, poking its head in Fearless' face and its forked tongue flicks across the halfling's nose.

Fearless:
"Hsss... Master sssshould be better now." it whispers in a hiss to you as it passes.

The Twin climbs up the shaft after The Snake and grabs onto Fearless's hand to make it out of the metal tube. "Ah... I knew I forgot something, but I didn't expect to find it." he remarks as he opens up his pack. He strips off the green tunic he scavenged from earlier and dons a stained straightjacket, leaving the sleeves untied. The man rolls up the sleeves for a moment and produces a set of cracked leather gloves that he pulls over his tattooed hands.

The man's face seems to brighten as he dons the new clothes and the Snake stays close by his side. The half elf sees the skewered, skinned and gutted rat carcasses and holds back a gag. "I will pass..." he says, feeling a bit ill at the thought of eating the flesh of the rat

Or any creature, really...

He leans against the wall as he slides down into a seated position and the snake coils up in his lap. Before dinner is even served, the Twin is asleep and the Snake has vanished.

Fearless hesitates and lowers his crossbow slightly as he watches the bald shapeshifter move about the room continuing to heal wounds.

Intrigued, Fearless sits in the corner after helping the Twin and Campre back up from the furnace. Assuming Campre joins us. His crossbow sits in his lap, still cocked and loaded. He silently watches closely as Brother Butterfly cleans his wounds.

As a form of a peace offering Fearless slides the mound of rat meat towards the bald man.

At the sound of resting for the night Fearless begins to relax just a little bit as each hour passes. Curling into the corner he succumbs to the horrors of his dreams as he reiterates Brother Butterfly's reply as his whispers into the cold silent room.

"Goodnight."

The small halfling shivers slightly as his only warmth comes from the heat of the furnace. He clutches his weapon closely for some small measure of comfort.

Cats stares at Fearless, hoping the halfling will come to his senses, or at least understand that he couldn't get them all if both he and Brother Butterfly were shapeshifts (which they are not).

Still looking at himself in the mirror, Cats tries to memorize his face and imagine how he looks when he smiles, or groan, or hisses. He looks at his eyes, learning their color.

He wonders how he got into this situation and what happened to his mind.

As he drops off to sleep, he hums a nameless tune until that turns into a snore.


Brother Butterfly's call down the vent summons Campre to the other side, but his requests are responded to with a distinct lack of enthusiasm.

"Cut off its head? Are you crazy? Hell no! You want that Butterball, come down here and do it yerself!"

When Campre eventually climbs the vent himself he is armed with a studded club meant for lethal business, a padded leather coat reinforced with metal rings, and a crossbow along with a quiver of bolts.

"Oh gods, is that a rat?! Whoah!" His disgust for dinner changes to alarm at The Twin's serpent. Seeing that the Watchmen have organized themselves, he puts as much distance as he can from them. Taking a corner opposite Fearless he ends up mirroring the paranoid halfling, sitting with his own crossbow. Unlike Fearless he seems determined to stay awake.

Giving the room a thorough search, Pinkie finds two unused sunrods that have rolled beneath a boiler, about 4 feet from the nearest edge. A Small or smaller creature can climb under to collect them, but someone larger will have to devise some method to recover them.

Brother Butterfly's Door Sight:

Broken lanterns and several battered doors line this, rubble-strewn hall. To the left the hallway extends about 150 feet, passing a few doors before ending in a collapsed area choked by rubble. To the right the hallway extends about 50 feet before turning left away from the doors to the chapel you passed on route through the asylum earlier. Almost directly across the way you recognize the door to the storage room you were ambushed in by Doctor Losandro, Doctor Lovelan, and York.

Hours pass. You take turns resting, but nightmares still plague your dreams. More than once the watchmen need to wake those who become unsettled in their sleep.

Everyone sleeping needs to make a will save. Add +2 for the Watchmen.

Fearless' paranoid mind keeps him safe throughout the night. He wakes up feeling refreshed. Well as refreshed as one can be when their dreams are plagued by nightmares and the such.

As Pinkie points out the sunrods Fearless pushes him out of the way and scurries underneath the furnace to grab the pair of sunrods and shoves them in the corners of his pack.

"Can we get out of here now? I ain't staying here another minute."

Cats starts awake, nearly dropping the mirror that he was holding when he feel asleep.

"What the cat was that!?" Cats asks, taking a moment to get his bearings.

"Oh yeah...me." Cats looks at himself in the mirror again, trying to memorize what he looks like and might look like to others before packing up his stuff, and unloading another rations to eat.

He rousts others who are sleeping as well, trying to get the group on task in this dangerous place.

"Let's go you," Cats lightly taps Mariner on the leg with his foot. "We're going to need to help clear that rubble."

"You, too," Cats says, awakening The Twin. "You sat out both fights yesterday, you can make it up by helping clear out the doorway."

Brother B wakes up with Cats encouragement, but he is the exact opposite of his enthusiasm from last night. It's maybe a figment of the dull light in the room, but he looks a good 5-10 years older. Slumped shoulders, and complaints of aching muscles accompany each movement involved in getting up today.

I looked beyond the door last night. The coast was clear of people or monsters.

While Brother Butterfly seems to sleep fitfully, the Twin drifts off easily and deeply as he is buried in amongst the various swirling images inside his head. Chief among his thoughts is the woman that addressed him, but he can't seem to grasp her in his mind. She is like a flitting vision that dissipates with every step towards her.

When morning rolls around and Cats feels the need to nudge him with his shoe, the Twin's eyes open methodically and he takes stock of the room. Half of the group is still sleeping, but the three fast friends seem to have synced their schedules.

"Give me a few moments to summon my friend." he says solemnly as the iconic harrow cards swirl about, forming into the Snake who remains coiled near the Twin.

The lithe half elf stands and stretches, bending to and fro in the stale air of the room. "I would, but I must conserve energy. Those who ate of the rat's flesh from last night should have enough stamina to handle moving some rocks. I, however, have not eaten as I will not consume flesh."

If pressed about it:
The Twin sighs and looks blankly at whomever makes a fuss. He looks down to the Snake and nods. The creature nods in return as the Twin speaks up. "If you can anchor the larger pieces with rope, then I can summon a small horse to shift the heavier pieces."

"That being said, the other three should be raised." he says, noticing that Pinkie and the Mariner are still sleeping soundly, along with Campre. "It might be wise if you were the one to wake the orderly." he says as he moves to Pinkie.

He uses his boot to press on Pinkie's shoulder, nearly pushing him over as he shakes him with a few leg motions. "Wake up. We have menial labor for you to complete."

He does the same to the Mariner. "Same with you. Rocks need moving and you are the one to do it."

The Twin:

The chained old woman sits before you. Your serpent slithers forward and curls around her, sliding it's head under her old withered hand.

Words form in your mind...

"Wake not the sleeper that lurks below..."

A rumbling shakes the room and rattles her chains. A crack forms in the wall nearby.

"Heed my words! Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it! Beware your...!"

The dream ends as your companions wake you from sleep.

Pinkie:

Exhausted, you eventually find yourself trapped in a blind alley when the Hunter steps from the mists. Bound in blood-stained tattered rags and holding a long razorlike blade in a clawed hand, a humanoid creature strides forth. It's skin is mottled like a man with a disease, and it has a wide mouth of sharp teeth. A torn length of yellow cloth conceals his eyes completely, though you sense it can see quite well.

"Iä! It shouts, raising its blade.

However, before it can attack you are pulled from the dream by your companions...

Brother Butterfly:

Exhausted, you eventually find yourself trapped in a blind alley when the Hunter steps from the mists. Bound in blood-stained tattered rags and holding a long razorlike blade in a clawed hand, a humanoid creature strides forth. It's skin is mottled like a man with a disease, and it has a wide mouth of sharp teeth. A torn length of yellow cloth conceals his eyes completely, though you sense it can see quite well.

"Iä! It shouts, raising its blade high. "Fhtagn ah lw'nafh shugg'hupadgh! Nog ah syha'h throd!"

It lunges suddenly! You raise a hand in defense and feel a sting as you lose two fingers. It slashes again, cutting across your face and you feel air sucking through a hole in your cheek. You try to call for your goddess, but it slashes your throat, expertly severing vocal chords but sparing the jugular.
Again and again it works the blade, inflicting an agonizing death of a hundred cuts!

You wake, but feel little rested. Thin red lines mark your body where the blade cut in your dreams.

You take 1d4 ⇒ 1 damage.
