INACTIVE - GAME DIED

Lily seems to go along numbly, aware that she is now little more than a prisoner. She seems to seesaw between putting her formidable mind to work looking at the organization and how it is defended and built to prevent escapes, and lapsing into distress over the realization that with her spellbook gone, she is effectively powerless and devoid of the decades of study that previously defined her life.

Fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

The hard manual labor does not go over well. As the day goes on, Lily continues to become increasingly ragged.

By the time the group is assigned to copying texts by candlelight, she is barely awake. Fortunately, even though she is not a trained linguist, her long hours working with spells have given her enough familiarity with the scribe's craft.

Taking 10 for a 15 Int check.

Etam goes through the day terribly bored by the preaching, which lends a particular pleasure to the physical activities. Whenever he can, he tries to take of the weight off his companion's shoulders and, seeing as he cannot really meaningfully communicate with them, starts developing a certain, limited appreciation for Asar's comments. During the last sermon of the day, he even discovers that, apparently, dead men possessing other people's minds not only can mind-snore, but also do so very loudly.

Clearly, that was a bad decision that takes its toll during the day. He can barely keep up with the hard work.

Even if he manages to not fall asleep, Jaed is immerse in his own thoughts and not paying much attention during the sermons. Who would say that I would miss fighting skeletons in a filthy crypt. This is booooring.

At the end of the day, although he is exhausted, Jaed manages to transcribe the text astonishingly fast. All those stories I read and all those books I "borrow" when I was a teenager have proved to be useful.

Tired after the long day, many of you simply collapse one of the beds in the shared sleeping quarters. The half-elf practically seems to pass out and begin snoring slightly. Luckily, you're all too tired to care much.

Day 2
The following day passes very similarly to the first.
7am: Wake up and have breakfast
7:30am: Simple labor in the yard
11am: Prayer and tutelage with the other acolytes
12pm: Lunch
12:30pm: Cleaning the first floor, though this time it seems a little bit easier. DC 9 Fort save to avoid being fatigued
3:30pm: Afternoon prayer

Artair: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Etam: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Jaed: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Sato: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

This time Artair isn't quite as fortunate and nods off at one point. When the sermon is over, Krant pulls Artair aside and directs one of the gray-robed individuals to take the rest of you out into the yard for your 4:30pm training.

Artair:
Krant pulls you to one side, waiting for the room to empty save for a few cultists in gray robes. "Do ya think this is a game, dwarf? How dare ya show such dis-re-speckt to the Living God. I'll teach ya to fall asleep during a service!" With that he pulls out a sap and begins beating you with it. If you let him beat you, you take 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2) = 11 non-lethal damage. If you don't, then the result is to be determined.

After not too long unless Artair decides otherwise, the dwarf emerges followed by Krant to join the rest of you in the yard as you practice moving as a group. This time after an hour, Krant begins to show you how to force someone to donate money, how to mock other faiths to make Razmir seem more powerful, and how to deal with local guards and others who would interfere. Before he sends you off to dinner, he nods in approval. "Yer shaping up nicely. Or at least, most of ya are." He gives a pointed look at Artair, most likely glaring behind his mask. "Keep this up, and I'll give ya all an op-er-tune-nity to show me ya deserve yer weapons back tomorrow."

The routine from the previous day then continues.
6:30pm: Dinner
7pm: Evening prayer
8pm: Transcription Lily, Jaed, and probably Sato all take 2 hours for the transcription. Everybody else has the DC 15 Int check again with each fail adding an hour on to their time.

@Finnrick: Quick recap. The tomb raiders that stole the amulets from Kassen and Asar's bodies were wearing the same masks as this cult and we found a reference to the Ranger's Lament in a note. We are here to investigate why they stole the amulets and I suppose recover them if we can. We decided to infiltrate the sect and see what can we find from the inside.

@DM: How many days have passed in total since we arrived in Tamran? I'm counting 4: day we met the pathfinder guy, day we went to the meeting and were captured, day 1 inside the temple and, now, day 2 inside the temple. If I'm correct that's 4 * 3 = 12.

@Finnrick: All 6 of you plus the half-elf and a few other cultists are sleeping in one communal room with beds. It's also a little difficult to tell when you're not being watched since everybody is constantly wearing masks that hide their eyes. The most obvious time you're not being observed is at night when you sleep.

@Etam: If you're asking about how many nights you've slept since your fight on the ship, this would be the 5th night (night you arrived, night after meeting Reginar, night of the cultist's meeting, and then this is your 2nd night here.

If you don't, then the result is to be determined.

@Jaed: I would like to resolve the above (unless you decide to do nothing) before you read the spoiler below. Everybody else is free to go ahead and read it now.

Afternoon Training:
Krant marches into the main courtyard, Jaed in tow. "Well, yer friend here seems to think ya know how to handle those weapons ya were carrying. I, on the other hand, have doubts. I've arranged a little comp-pet-tition here to prove me wrong." As he speaks, he begins handing out saps* to each of you and the half-elf. "To sweeten the pot, so to speak, last man standing will be excused from tran-scipt-shin duty and given a fine bottle of Chelish wine from my personal co-leck-shin."

* A sap is a light, martial melee weapon that deals only non-lethal bludgeoning damage. It does 1d6 damage, x2 on a crit.

He directs everybody to a different corner of the courtyard, taking Millsy to stand next to him. "No pets. Yer cat'll have to sit this one out." He points to Finnrick as he says this. For good measure, he also throws a heavy flail* in the center. "To make things in-ter-esting-like." He calls to a small group of cultists who have begun to gather to watch the upcoming fight. In response, they give a few hoots and hollers of approval.

* Heavy flail is a 2-handed martial, melee weapon that does lethal bludgeoning damage. It does 1d10 damage and crits on a 19-20 for x2 damage. It can be used to more easily trip or disarm an opponent.

When he's out of the way, he raises his hand for silence. After a pause, he drops it. "Begin!"

Even though she manages to catch enough breaks to keep from being totally exhausted by the day's labor, she remains quite noticeable both due to her elvish frame and her nervous behaviors like clutching at her fingertips or starting when one of the senior acolytes walks by.

When tossed into the afternoon "training," she handles the sap oddly, unused to its weight. She hunches over and does her best to get near someone else, her hands dipping toward her beltline occasionally and then clenching and unclenching - having seen her in a fight before, the motion is clear: She has no spell component pouch, which means that even with the few spells that she does have prepared, she is mostly helpless.

"Forgot you didn't have your components?" he brags. "Shame."

While no one's *on* me, I cast a spell. If the courtyard could conceivably be mostly dirt or grass, or stones set *in* dirt, I cast Entangle (DC 16, 40ft radius spread), centered on the fighting area. If there's no way (by sato's judgement) that the spell would take root, so to speak, he'd instead cast Daze on the half elf. (DC 20)

Sato then moves to be in melee range of his opponents, unhindered by the (hopefully) plant growth.

The courtyard is pretty much dirt and grass, so entangle it is. Not going to draw it on the map though since it covers the entire area. Finnrick is unaffected since he's standing on stone steps currently.

Since Etam already posted his action, I'll roll his reflex save. If he passes, he goes after the half-elf. If he fails, I've give him the chance to redo his action since he wouldn't be able to reach the half-elf and attack with only 1/2 his movement.

Etam gets ready to rush to Finnrick's side, but as hte takes a step forward vines grab his feet. Tumbling forward, ripping vines that after a moment regrow and force his legs back to the ground, he only manages to reach Jaed's side. He whispers to the rogue: "Not sure it's the best moment to rebel, master Zandoria. I would rather we take out the half-elf and just pretend master Shisui's vines are poison ivy and fall. I'm sure we could use one of ours becoming their favourite."

I'm going to post before Artair (conditional to his actions) to speed things up.

Sato's spell and Etam's words take Jaed out of his anger state, which was being aggravated by Krant's response. He turns and looks at the fighter with incredulity. Are we really going to play the fools now? Fine, I suppose the mission goes first, but later I will give this Krant what he deserves; that's for sure.

Jaed whispers back: "Ok, you wanna play, let's play. We'll take out the half-elf together but after that it's hammer time. Well, flail time." He looks at the heavy flail in his hands. I have to be careful. I don't want to really hurt anyone and this thing seems dangerous. And I have never used one before...

If Artair attacks Jaed:
Jaed smiles at the dwarf and tries to disarm him.

If Artair does not attack Jaed:
Jaed takes a step forward and tries to disarm the half-elf.
Disarm: 1d20 + 3 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 4 + 2 = 2

Something tells me Jaed is not going to last long in this fight...

Artair stands around, not quite sure what to do. I'm botting him tot take a total defense action. Meanwhile, Jaed nimbly moves through the undergrowth and tries to disarm the half-elf of his sap. The half-elf quickly gets out of the way and uses the opening to try to punch Jaed with his sap.

AoO vs Jaed: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14

But Jaed is too quick. "What is this? You'n your buddies all going to gang up against me? C'mon, that's not fair!" The half-elf looks at Krant for help, but the black-robed cultist merely shrugs.

"He's the one that challenged me." The half-elf yells indignantly pointing at Finnrick. "Besides, are your friends really so weak that you must gang up to 'protect' them in a non-lethal combat?" The half-elf then points at Jaed. "He's the only one with a lethal weapon. And he clearly doesn't have the faintest idea how to use it! Who knows what kind of damage he might do! He could--ompf" The man is interrupted mid-rant as Finnrick knocks him down. He quickly attempts to stand once again. This provokes an AoO from Jaed and Finnrick. In case that doesn't knock him out, I'll go ahead an roll his attack against Finnrick.

"I have stated my terms…sir" Etam says in a cold voice that hesitates towards the end, unsure how to properly address the half-elf. As soon as his foe moves to attack Finnrick, the warrior strikes back:

Sap: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Non-lethal damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

If the half-elf is knocked out before his action, Etam will just take full defence for the round. He won't resist Sato's touch, though.

Also, Sato, you will probably have a lot of convincing to do with this guy if he turns out to be important for the story. Pretty sure he hates Etam now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jaed finally manages to get in a lucky swing and knocks the sap out of the half-elf's hand. Artair meanwhile struggles against the vines and moves towards the general huddle of people. If he doesn't post his next action, I'm going to have him randomly attack someone on his next turn.

If I can I will go for the sap and continue to stay defensive. Was not expecting to be without internet over Xmas.

MotW NPCs Definitely not a vampire Slides | Knowledge Checks

Because everything's difficult terrain now, you don't have enough movement to both move next to the half-elf and try to pick up his dropped sap. You current position represents 30' of movement. If you wish, you can take another action or continue to move.

Male Human Rogue 8 | HP 85/88 | AC 22 FF 22 T 18 | BAB +6/+1 | CMB +7/+2 | CMD 25 | F +6 R +12 W +5 | Init +11 | Per +13 (Trapfinding +21)

What would be the type of action required if Jaed wants to kick the fallen sap away from the half-elf?

MotW NPCs Definitely not a vampire Slides | Knowledge Checks

You could either pick it up and then throw it, which would be your entire turn, or you could actually try to kick it, which would just be an attack roll similar to an unarmed strike and leave you your move action. Not sure off the top of my head what the AC would be and I'm on my phone, so I'd figure it out later. Distance would be a Str check either way. So basically, one method is slower but guaranteed to throw it and the other is faster but has some risk associated with it.

@DM: Thanks! I don't think it is worth it right now, especially if Jaed gets another AoO if he tries to pick it up.

Reflex DC 16: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 I think I have to roll again that entangle save as Jaed is still in the affected area.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Jaed is surprised by Sato's attempt to touch him. "Keep your hands to yourself, Sato. You're not my type." As a reaction, he tries to trip the sorcerer using the flail's handle.

Init +3; Senses low-light vision; Perception +2; HP:20/20; AC 16;T 14;FF 13; Fort +3, Ref +4, Will +3

I believe once you're entangled in the area, you don't get extra saves each round.

Male Human Rogue 8 | HP 85/88 | AC 22 FF 22 T 18 | BAB +6/+1 | CMB +7/+2 | CMD 25 | F +6 R +12 W +5 | Init +11 | Per +13 (Trapfinding +21)

I may be misinterpreting the rule but it says here: "Creatures that make their save can move as normal, but those that remain in the area must save again at the end of your turn." Jaed successfully saved the first turn and now he has to save again if I understand correctly. What I'm not sure is if it also affects the caster because Sato stepped into the affected area when he tried to touch Jaed.

I think Sato was using his Woodland Stride ability from his bloodline. Though now that I look at it, it seems to specifically disallow magical difficult terrain.

SRD (emphasis mine) wrote:
Woodland Stride (Ex): At 3rd level, you can move through any sort of undergrowth (such as natural thorns, briars, overgrown areas, and similar terrain) at your normal speed and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment. Thorns, briars, and overgrown areas that have been magically manipulated to impede motion, however, still affect you.
