Rod Benteft |
Rod grimaced at Saera, seemingly satisfied that she was at least stabilizing them, sighing as he nodded. I'm not opposed to fighting, but we did walk into THEIR home and attack them. I hope not everyone in the Society is this ready to start a fight.
"Yeah... we still have to meet back up with Janira. We may want to head back and try to find her. For all we know, she could be in big trouble... I mean, she WAS being chased by a minotaur, of all things." he stated.
DM PatheticWretch |
As the group moves to examine the creatures, they appear to be small, scaly reptiles with small spears and little else of value.
As Rod moves forward to make peace with the creatures, he steps on a hidden pressure plate, and a dart flies across the chamber and strikes him in the arm.
Rod needs to make a fort save, and Saera needs to make heal checks to stabilize the creatures.

Rod yelped a bit as the darts struck him, something tingling at the impact zone. But he shrugged it off, rubbing the site of the injury, realizing it was one caused by the undead from earlier. Suddenly, it struck him just how badly hurt it was.
"No worries! I'm fine... hurt my pride more than anything. Though I am gonna need one of those health poultices. I probably look worse than I feel right now."
Just gonna dig through the bag Janira left us and use one of those CLW potions. If those aren't there, I've got a few in my pack (always come prepared!)

DM PatheticWretch |
As Rod shrugs off the effects of the trap the small reptilian creatures had set, abruptly, the group begins to hear the faint sounds of combat echoing through the tunnel to the east.
A familiar woman’s voice half-shouting and half-reciting, “As the legendary Gregaro Voth successfully battled the wild beasts in the deepest reaches of the Mwangi Expanse, so shall I defeat you, foul servant of Lamashtu!”
Rod Benteft |
"Same here." Rod said, finishing his swig of healing liquid as his wounds patched up. "And it sounds like she hasn't shaken that minotaur yet! Let's get to her before that thing does!" Rod declared, drawing his longsword and leading the way to the noise.
DM PatheticWretch |
The group runs quickly down the eastern tunnel, and filtered moonlight appears at the end of the tunnel. The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
In a clearing below, Janira faces off against the monstrous beast; she is clearly fatigued and outmatched in the bright moonlight.
Terrain is difficult terrain. The stream is treated as rough water, and will need a str check to navigate. The log across the stream could also work for passage, but appears slick and will need an acrobatics check. Go!

"Janira! Hold on!"
Saera moves slightly closer, and aims her musket at the minotaur. She spends one points of grit to ignore all penalties of firing into the musket's second range increment.
Musket, Inspired: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12 Damage, Inspired: 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Not a very high attack roll, but versus flat-footed touch AC it may just work! :)
Rod Benteft |
"Knew it! We'd better get down fast!" Rod exclaimed, sliding down the rough hillside deftly as he moved past Yagga and Saera, drawing his light flail as he rushed to the halfling's aid. As he moved, he dug into his backpack, pulling out a red cloth? It looked like it was supposed to be some sort of cape he planned on wearing, but if this worked, it would have a far better use!
DM PatheticWretch |
Saera's shot loses velocity as it flies across the clearing. It just manages to strike the creature's arm and break the skin; it snorts and looks up the hill at the approaching group.
Yagga and Rod move as quickly as they can down from the cave.
Janira also looks up the hill in the moonlight, and her voice echoes to the group “You vile beast! I know not what drives your black heart, but I shall not fail in my duty. I shall see you driven from this forest, back to the hills from whence you came!”
She attempts to disarm the creature's battleaxe with her whip, but all she manages is a crack of the whip near the creature's head.

Chortles' arrow strikes true, inflicting a second wound on the creature. Zandu begins casting a spell as the rest race down the hill.
Now in a blind rage, the minotaur lashes out at Janira with its battleaxe.
"Eeep!" Janira screams as she tries to dodge out of the way, but the axe strikes her and she falls, motionless in the moonlight.

Chortles misses a step in surprise as the arrow struck the beast, "It's a miracle!" In his last role as a royal bard, the play's director had forbid him from touching a bow after having been shot in the foot. Twice!
Feeling confident with a river between him and the monster as well as his newly found bow adeptness, Chortles fires another shot.

Saera Dyar |
I misread the 'Deadeye' deed. Spending a grit point lets me make an attack versus touch AC despite firing outside of my 1st range increment, just like the attack would if my target's within my 1st range increment. However, it doesn't take the penalty to my attack roll away.
Saera quickly reloads her musket with a paper cartridge, and takes a 5-foot step closer to the minotaur. She aims her musket, and shoots again.
Spending 1 grit again, to let my attack resolve against the minotaur's touch AC.
Musket, 2nd range increment: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 2 = 16 Damage: 1d12 ⇒ 12
Rod Benteft |
Oooooh, Shelyn, sweetheart. If you're hearing me, I could really use a hand here. I'm saving a patron of the arts and beauty, right? ...right? Ford prayed in his mind as he hastily unfurled the red cape, making sure to flourish it for the big bull to see.
"I'm making a break for Janira! (I owe her one for earlier, after all.)" Ford declared, drawing out his trident. I remember hearing tales about those guys in the south who tangled with bulls. What were they called? Mata-something or other... I really hope the same principles apply to these big guys...!
"Hey! You big lummox! Come and get it, you brute!" Ford hollered, stabbing his trident into the ground and draping the cape over the hilt. Perhaps, if he could get the thing's attention...
DM PatheticWretch |
I'll have Zandu finish casting his spell, since that was a full-round action anyway.
Zandu casts the spell, and the minotaur's eyelids droop momentarily, but it shakes its great head and the effect is gone. Sleep has a 4 HD max...the creature has more than 4 HD.
Meanwhile, Rod's challenge seems to be working. Seeing Janira down, the minotaur turns and rushes toward the fighter, pebbles and dust spewing from its hooves.
It leaps into the stream with a great splash and lashes out at Rod with its battleaxe. The blow from the axe drops the selfless warrior, but the stream's current proves stronger than the creature had expected, and it struggles to get out.
battleaxe attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 262d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 5) + 4 = 12 Rod, your hit points are showing as 7/11 right now. If that was wrong and you were at full hp, it 12 hp still drops you.

Nah, that's right. Rod's now at -4 HP. I may not be the toughest fighter, but look who's caught in a rushing river now! Hopefully somebody picks up my slack and saves Janira. Also, this marks the second time I've started dying this adventure. At this rate, I could start dating the reaper.
Yagga Nightquill |
"Rod, No!" Yagga screams out, concerned for his companion.
Knowledge check to see what Yagga knows about minotaurs. (Are they evil alignment?)

Did you say this was all difficult terrain?
DM PatheticWretch |
The scenario says there are "patches of woodland...filled with underbrush that behaves as light undergrowth, creating difficult terrain. Since the map looks to have some clear patches and some areas with shrubs, let's say all the areas with shrubs are difficult terrain, those without are clear.
Saera Dyar |
It happens :P
Saera grins widely when her bullet hits the minotaur. "I'm eating steak tonight!"
Yagga Nightquill |

** spoiler omitted **
In that case is it OK if I move another 20', since I took the last 2 rounds' movement at half rate?
Yagga Nightquill |
Yagga tosses his bow aside and briefly murmurs to himself as he casts Protection from Evil. He draws his sword as he navigates through the underbrush.
+2 deflection AC and +2 resistance bonus on saves, both vs. evil creatures
Saera Dyar |
Saera repeats the process of reloading her musket with a paper cartridge. She takes a 5-foot step west to avoid shooting Yagga in his back, and shoots another bullet at the minotaur.

Meanwhile, Saera lines up a third shot at the creature, and the blast from her firearm rips a third hole in its hide. An arrow still protrudes from its shoulder.
Severely wounded, the creature looks to be having second thoughts about the battle. It moves to retreat, but one of its hooves slips on a rock and it nearly falls in the strong current. It appears unable to move further this turn!

Yagga heals Rod, who begins to regain some strength.

Saera Dyar |
Saera spares no time, and directly starts running.

Good job, everyone! :)
Rod Benteft |
Rod gasped for breath as he returned to the land of the living, forcibly yanked back by Yagga and Chortles' quick care. Sitting up, Rod's eyes swiveled back to Janira's direction. "Someone get- ...Janira... to... safety?"
Rod looked about, wiping the blood off his face before squinting at the now defeated minotaur. "...wow. What'd I miss?"
DM PatheticWretch |
Saera manages to stabilize Janira's pulse, and once the group administers healing to her, her eyes open in alarm.
She looks around, and seeing each member of the group alive, and the minotaur dead, she cannot conceal her emotion. She is both excited and relieved, and cannot express enough times her gratitude to you.
Great job, everyone! We're pretty much done...I'll do a wrap-up post, roll for boons, and try to figure out the whole Chronicle thing. Give me a couple days to get this wrapped up...pretty swamped at the moment.
Yagga Nightquill |
Rod, you distracted him long enough for the rest to finish him off. I think you saved Janira."
Yagga will use his wand to heal Janira and make sure she is OK.
I can't just leave her like that.
Rod Benteft |
Rod blinked up at Yagga, before pulling himself to his feet, smirking. "Wow. I missed a good bit, didn't I? Oo! Nuts... who'd have thought being a team player would hurt that much, eh? Thanks for the back-up, I was just flying by the seat of my pants on that."
Saera Dyar |
Very curious to see if any of us will win a Gameday boon when you make the rolls, GM. Let's hope some do! :)
