Rod Benteft |
Rod squinted into the darkness, eying the dead dhampir, but quickly switching focus to his new foes, shambling corpses veering towards them. "Oh cracker barrels... ah, I thought this may come in handy." Rod quickly reached into his backpack, whipping out a smallish book and beginning to comb through the pages, eyes dancing as he scanned every page quickly.
Finally, finger pointing to a page header, he stopped and read out the title. "Here! 'Undead and Similar Fiends', that's what it was." he said, squinting as he tried to read up quickly. But this damp cave wasn't exactly ideal reading light...

"Slash the fleshy ones," Saera informs the others, relying on her previous experience with undead.
"I've never encountered skeletons, but let me test my weapon on one..."
Saera moves forward, aims at one of the skeletons (made it blue), and shoots at it.
Bullet (both bludgeoning and piercing): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Damage: 1d12 ⇒ 11
"Bullets work," Saera dryly states, forgetting that information's not very useful in relation to the weapons carried by her allies.
Rod Benteft |
Rod growls in frustration, before snapping the book shut and tossing it back in his pack. "I'm going to guess breaking their bones works just as well as when you break one of your own. I'll handle the fleshed ones." Rod said, slipping past Saera and drawing his blade, ready to defend the half-succubus.
"If any of you magically inclined folks want to help, that'd be quite appreciated."
Moving 20 feet ahead in front of Saera, sword drawn as part of a move action. Readied longsword attack should any of the zombies get too close.

The three undead converge on Rod after Saera blasts one to bits with her firearm.
"Unnnn..."
The three creatures, though in various stages of decay, were gillmen in life.
They batter against Rod's defenses, but the warrior stands strong, dodging two blows and then spinning out of the grasp of one of the zombies.

Well, I guess we know where that mouth's been now. No wonder she swears like a sailor. Rod mused to himself, leaning back and staying on the defensive as he readied himself if the zombie made another move. Not sure if that rubs me the wrong way or turns me on more... leaning towards the latter, but...
"I highly recommend scrubbing your mouth out before using it again. Don't know where that ghoul's been."
Taking a 5 foot step out of the way and moving closer to the dead dhampir on the far wall.

The last zombie's skull collapses as Yagga's well-aimed stone hits it squarely.
The group begins a search of the cavern, including the five corpses on the floor.
Among the fallen bodies, the Pathfinders find a note on the body of the dhampir.
The scrap of paper is tattered and damp, but seems to detail plans to start an army of undead made from the “fish people” who have been frequenting this cave.
It reads, in part "...and they come alone, or perhaps in pairs. While in their meditation or 'worship,' they are completely inattentive. I have managed to turn several to my cause already...they seem to obey my every..."
In addition, the group finds a well-crafted light crossbow and a pearl.

While giving Rod an amused smile, Saera sheaths her sword. "Don't you worry, I missed him."
Saera reloads her musket, and takes another look around the room.

"He was rather naive if he thought he could raise an army that easily..."
Rod Benteft |
Rod held up the crossbow, considering a bit before hanging it on his backpack. "I may find a use for that later..." he hummed to himself, before picking up the pearl and whirling on Saera. Smirking, he held it out to her. "Found this too. It's yours if you have anything to trade~" His coy smile made it hard to tell if he was jesting or being totally serious.
Saera Dyar |
Saera doesn't reply to Rod, but instead smiles mysteriously as she takes the pearl from him.
"Is this a normal pearl?" she asks the casters. "What about the bow, does it have magic properties?"
After the casters have had a chance to inspect the two items, Saera points at the tunnel the party came from. "Let's go back to the water, and check out the other tunnel?"
She'll wait for the others to start walking, and covers the rear.

Crossbow +1 and Pearl of Power (lvl 1).
Returning the way they had come, the group makes it back to the central chamber where the gillman had been worshiping. The same tunnel branches the other direction, and Yagga takes the lead. The passage leading from the gillmen’s holy site varies from 3 to 6 feet wide, and is coated with the omnipresent bioluminescent fungi. Though the group encounters several points where the tunnel branches off in different directions, all of those paths either narrow beyond their abilities to traverse, lead back to this main trail, or are blocked by a cave-ins. Trekking through the
twisting passages to this large cavern takes approximately 20 minutes.
The persistent glow of the bluish fungi dimly lights the way deeper below the Kortos Mounts. The tunnels broaden to reveal a shallow river that bisects an immense tunnel stretching to the north and south. To the east a small passage exits the chamber at a steep incline.

Yagga investigates the eastern passage cautiously, motioning for silence.

Within the cavern, the dim light fades into darkness to the north and the south. The cavern stretches nearly 100 feet in each direction, but is otherwise unremarkable save for the inlet and outlet of the ancient river responsible for creating this chamber and most of the surrounding tunnels over the centuries. The river through this part of the cavern ranges from 10 to 15 feet wide but is only 1 foot deep, and it flows languidly at an almost imperceptibly slow speed.
Suddenly a quiet voice echos through the cavern.

Saera quickly reloads her musket, using a paper cartridge to speed the process up. She then moves in a straight line, past Rod and into the water.

"Grrr... does everyone answer something new with an opening volley?" Rod grumbled, before stepping forward and speaking up to the creatures in the dark, using some of the Undercommon he'd picked up.
