Quinn's grin turns to shock as the tiefling in his grasp winks out of material existence, leaving him holding nothing. The continued presence of the demoness attacking Hyram cleared his confusion, though. He grabs hold of his sword and stalks in.

Unfortunately, the distance from the fight makes it hard for Aladir to join the others immediately; even charging into the fray is, right now, too distant, so instead he retrieves his bow from the ground and returns it to his back, then rushes forward to assist his allies.

Quinn, left with nothing in his hand as the tiefling disappears, steps up to the opponent that he sees is still there and attacks the succubus. Alikia finishes her summon spell and a small glowing light appears next to her. Hyram, thinking tactically steps to the other side of Kiranda, and swings his sword, connecting with her twice. Aladir retrieves his bow, and with both weapons in hand moves into the room where the two warriors are battling the demon. Ezro steps so everyone is in range of his spell and calls upon Iomedae blessing on the group.
Kiranda, continues to attack Hyram with her rapier but misses.

Fluttering overhead of Aladir and Ezro, the small lantern archon lines up it sights on the succubus. At first a small beam of light shoots out to hit the demon, before it unleashes a barrage of blinding light. However the small creature is unable to hit the demoness.
Alikia meanwhile, rubs her thumb against the runes engraved into her crossbow as the power bestowed upon her by Iomadae thrums in her blood. As her eyes glow a bright white as she casts the ability to see creatures normally hidden from sight with illusion magic. Trusting in Quinn and Hyrams ability to finish off the fiend, She makes her way to the south, attempting to figure out where the tiefling could have teleported to.

With only one foe remaining, you go to work on taking down the succubus, and although she does score a hit on Hyram, she is taken down in short order. Alikia uses her wild ability to cast see invisibility on herself, and scans around the area looking for the tiefling but there is no one in the room besides yourselves.

"I wonder if this belonged to the real Maranse when he was trekking through the Worldwound...before he met his end." he thinks aloud, then looks to the others.
"Regardless of its origin, may I claim the demoness's weapon?"

Alikia makes a slight bow to Aladir. "Be my guest. I am terrible with a blade, plus it suits you Aladir." Offering a smile to the full elf, Alikia continues to scan the chamber. Playing with a strand of her blond hair, Alikia pauses for a moment to consider the burning braziers, wondering why creatures that can see in the dark would need such light sources.

Quinn nods along with Alikia. "The weapon suits you. If it was the tool of a skilled warrior, then it deserves to be in the hands of another. Use it well and honor his legacy."
Quinn begins walking towards the northern portion of the chamber. "This place is strange. A throneroom? An audience chamber? A temple? But, off of the dungeons and behind the forge..." He shrugs as he examines one apex of the chamber and begins heading towards the other.

The thing that strikes me most about that roll is I only got a 2 and still ended up with a 25 total. I can't remember the last time I played in a campaign where my modifiers were that high.

Opening the door and stepping in, you see, swaths of pulsating red lichen illuminate this long, 30-foot-high, alcove-lined hall. The alcoves themselves display elaborate, colorful murals of demonic entities, each with inscriptions chiseled into the stone below them. At the far end of the hall stands a massive iron framework that displays a red banner, the fabled Sword of Valor.

Aladir's eyes widen when he finally lays eyes on the mythical banner, but pauses at the sight of the lichen pulsing in the hallway, keeping his grip on his new rapier tightening.
"Maybe it's just paranoia, but...somethin' about this doesn't feel right. Beyond the red moss, I mean. There's no way we could just...walk up to it and take it. Not with that tiefling around, and not when we know there's some kind of shadow-demon about, too."
He stares at the display stand for a moment, thinking. "Didn't we pass the chamber that it was once displayed in earlier? If that's the case, once we are sure it's safely in our possession, it might not be a bad idea to take it back there and see if we can figure out how to activate it. Our goal is before us, but we have yet to explore through those doors, either, and I don't think it's a good idea to just grab it and leave unturned stones in our wake."

Quinn rushes the room adjacent to Aladir and Hyram, weapons drawn against surprises. Turning the corner, the Sword appears at the end of the long hall. Quinn suppresses the immediate urge to dash and seize it.
"Almost certainly trapped or warded," Quinn nods in agreement. "But, if we could activate its power, it may grant us an advantage over demons and shadows." Quinn takes a hesitant step towards the alcove where the Sword of Valor waits. "That is the Lady's own banner," he states almost as a plea.

"Even if we had it, though, we don't know how to activate it...if we did, I would be a lot more likely to go for that option as opposed to leaving it for now. It could be something as simple as hanging it on the way...it is a banner, after all...or it could be some complex ritual. We don't know; according to Lady Galfrey, no one knows."

Quinn stares plaintively down the corridor towards the Sword of Valor, where it hangs sullied on all sides by demonic imagery and foul lichen. Still, he nods along with Aladir's advice. "Caution has served us well. But, so has daring..." Quinn clinches his fists as his eyes flash gold.
"But, there are hundreds of knights and soldiers whose lives depend upon our success. An entire nation and all goodly folk lie behind them. Caution must win the day." Quinn finally looks away from the banner and turns towards the corridor. "Let's find this demon."

"It is strange that the demons haven't taken down the sword. Perhaps it has some protective magic on it so that only those of the Inheritor's own faith can remove it?" she mutters out loud, "After we secure this Citadel, I would like a moment to study it." Twirling another strand of hair between curious fingers, Alikia furrows her brow. "If I could find a way to improve my protective magics without harming the sword, that would be ideal."

Deciding to find the demon that should be here, you for now look upon the banner with wonder, but leave it and go thru the door to the east. It leads to a corridor that turns north to another door, which Aladir checks and then Hyram and Quinn, standing at the front open it.
A five-foot ledge runs the length of this circular pit. A second elevated ledge stands above the ledge with a short series of steps rising to a small platform ahead of it. To the southeast, a giant statue of a six-armed woman with a serpentine body rises out of the pit. It looms over each ledge with outstretched arms bearing an intimidating array of exotic weapons.

Looking at the map and the description, it's not really clear whether it's necessary to ascend to the "balcony" or not. Does the lower section travel all the way to the double doors on the far side?
Quinn edges to the side to allow Aladir to precede him. "I've seen few places more ideally suited for a trap. Should we split? I would not like to be caught on the lower ledge with enemies above."

Hyram and Alikia both spit the word Marilith! at the same time with about the same level of disgust. Hyram nods at Quinn. I agree. It seems too..uh..inviting. Just like the Sword of Valor. We should proceed to it with caution.

About a third of the way around, the wall next to Quinn pulses aggressively and pushes Quinn ten feet, which lands him over the edge of the pit and he falls to the bottom. The pit which had looked like it was only ten feet deep, actually is forty feet as the illusionary floor disappears, and the bottom of the pit undulates with a green gelatin substance.
