Dlallith looks over at Tawunn, "you should have just let him die. He worships dark things and does not care for his people, especially the children anymore, and he throws those he finds unworthy to the dragon in the pit. Perhaps it is fitting that he die by that beasts hands." She then turns to the smith and the two of them grab Tawunn and carry him over to the pit and throw him in, cutting his bonds at the last moment.
"We gave him a chance to defend himself, unlike what he did to the ones he threw into the pit."

Rikar Sarakin |
Rikar's eyes widen ever so slightly at the prompt justice of the stone giants. "Well, they're slow and deliberative at some things, but it looks like they made that decision quick enough," he remarks grimly. "Though I suppose they've had a lot of time to consider what they'd do to Tamestone if they could."
Looking at each of his companions, he says, "I feel we've done a good thing here, and with less killing than we might have. Now shall we head west and see if we can pick up our quarry's trail?" With a glance at Kreig, he adds, "And I'll try to be careful about stepping into the middle of a bunch of giants, or whatever else we run across, okay? That was a tight corner for a fight, and I figured I had to get at the chief and put him down, even if it was a bit riskier for my own handsome hide."
Kreig - missed your nice RP post a couple of posts back, due to your ninja ways. Just wanted you to know you hadn't been ignored.
Telman Raoul |
Telman also nods in appreciation at the giant's display of justice. "Man like you has a role to play. And that role requires you to get right in the mess and get a little dirty. I should have been covering you from further away so there was more healing magic for you." He turns his head in the direction that Kreig might be in, then realizs he has no idea where the dwarf is.
"We all play our parts and play them right, things work out." Or at least they should.....
Josef Guardson |
"You're right, all of you. I apologize, Misha. I should have waited and afforded you the first opportunity, that was my fault. Perhaps I should have held my tongue against the chieftan in the first place. At least it ended well for us, though. I will strive to be more patient in the future, I assure you all."
Kreig Ironhand |
Kreig Ironhand, dwarfish ninja...I like that!
Kreig stands on the edge of the pit and listens for a moment as the ousted leader plummets to his doom. He dusts his hands and returns to the others. "Handsome hide, huh? Looks like ya mighta taken one to the dome, Longshanks. Heh heh."
"Any you miss the fact our Lady under the mountain jus' said there be a dragon down that hole?" He leans casually against a boulder and folds his arms across his barrel chest. "Mebbe we could lean on the kindness o' these folks n' take our rest a night? Catch our wind? Mebbe learn more 'bout what the ex-Chief o' Shit-dippin' was worshippin'? Plus, might get some info on what lay to the west...or that mist that passed thru a few days ago?"
Misha Keroun |
Misha smiles at Josef. "I'm the last person to judge another for acting on impulse."
She waits until the giants are done with the chieftain (listening for sounds as he falls into the pit, wondering how deep it is) and nods at Dlallith. "May we rest here?"
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (15) + 21 = 36

Dlallith responds "yes, you may rest anywhere in our domain. We owe you a debt. And you may go anywhere. Be careful of the west, as only Tawunn has entered there. He told us of a mad giant in the next cave, and beyond that a chasms that contain evil creatures of the dark. One of them he worshiped. It is told that there is an entrance into the under dark from there, but it has not been found yet."

Josef Guardson |
"I say, let's rest here where it's safe. Once we have our powers restored, we can continue deeper and find this wretched fire genie."
Misha Keroun |
Misha nods in agreement with Josef. "Thank you," she says to Dlallith, "We will rest before we're on our way--west, unfortunately, as we must go further down, but your information is helpful. One last question--would any of your folk have wares to trade?"
Rikar Sarakin |
Rikar nods, quite satisfied at the outcome, then breathes a sigh of relief at the notion of a rest. On hearing what Tawunn had said about what lies to the west, the towering Shoanti scoffs, then says, "What do you think, Telman? Was anything that giant said likely to be true? How about a wager? Think we'll find mad giants or a chasm full of baddies, or did Tamestone just say that to keep his people out of his favorite nap spot?"
DM Papa.DRB |
?: 1d20 ⇒ 171d4 ⇒ 2
"No, we just have what we need to survive" replies Dlallith to Misha, regarding supplies to sell or trade.
"We are sure that the mad giant is there, so be careful" she also replies to Rikar.
If nothing else here, you can rest the "night" and head west young adventurers in the morning.
Telman Raoul |
"Most likely tales told to scare folks off. Maybe a rival imprisoned there and the story masks his screams for release..." Telman cannot help but gaze up at the ceiling.
"But in THIS crazy place who knows? We have seen stranger things than 'mad giants' haven't we?" He smiles at the ranger. "But I'll take that bet and wager 10 gold that there are no mad giants, just a tall tale."
"It doesn't matter really. Mad or sane, that weapon of yours should cut them down to size!"
DM Papa.DRB |
?: 1d20 ⇒ 171d4 ⇒ 1
Having rested for the "night", you set out early towards the cave of the mad giant.(K7)
You reach a big cave, maybe 50 feet across or more, whose floor is several feet lower than the entrance level. All sounds are magnified by the echo in this chamber, including your own steps and a rumbling, low breathing sounds coming from somewhere to the left… it is as if the darkness itself was slowly breathing in and out…

Therena |
Therena motions folks back. "Before we go in..." she says and starts casting spells.
She casts communal air walk on everybody, aid on Rikar, and blessing of fervor on everybody.
When they are ready to go in, she'll put improved invisibility on Kreig and ready her extending rod. "If you stay with me," she says to Kreig, "I can put a haste spell on you if fighting starts."
Misha Keroun |
Misha casts and maintains message as usual to help folks communicate quietly, as well as if scouts split up from the main group.
When their footsteps begins to echo, she attempts to walk more quietly, and listen carefully to the breathing sounds.

HP: 117 + 17 Temp HP
Therena: Blessing of Fervor is only 1 round/level. Just FYI
Looking closely at Josef, you notice his feet no longer quite touch the floor. Some force carries him aloft just over the level of the ground, whipping his pant legs in silent winds.
He carries his bow at the ready, with an arrow across the string, and takes up his customary place near the center of the group.
"I am glad for that rest, I feel like a new man, to be honest."
Therena |
If he's using overland flight, Therena will exclude Josef from the communal air walk.
I know about the short duration, which is why she casts it last. It lasts 10 rounds.
Also, I forgot: Aid temp HP: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 for Rikar
Rikar Sarakin |
Feeling rested and ready, Rikar sets out with the others to see what lies to the west, keeping a sharp eye out for the outcome of his wager with Telman.
"Hey, Kreig," he whispers as they approach the end of the passage, "shall we go up quiet-like and take a look? Or do you want to do it solo, since Therena's got you all invisible? If you go down while you're out there alone, be sure to hit the ground in a spot where we'll stumble over you, okay?"
Whether Kreig goes solo or not, Rikar and Latys will be sneaky and perceptive:
Stealth (favored terrain): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (17) + 21 = 38
Perception (favored terrain, uncanny senses): 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (4) + 32 = 36

Edit, since I'm bad at math. Caster Level is 11, so extended hr/lvl spells are 22 hrs, regular ones are 11 hrs. GMW is only +2, not +3. My bad.
Telman Raoul |
Telman peers into the shadows to the left, trying to discern the source of the breathing. Doesn't sound like a tall tale, does it?
As he watches the sneaky types advance, he readies his bow to follow at a safe distance.

Mad Giant Stealth: 1d20 - 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) - 8 + 2 = -2 freakin really !!
Having rested, healed and spelled up, as you approach the cavern of the so called mad giant, several of you cast preparatory spells, just in case. Moving slowly into the cave, having to step down a few feet from the entrance, everyone notices off to the left a huge towering, muscular giant of heroic proportions, with bronze skin, and dark hair.
"I see four of you and a cat. What do you want?" the giant bellows, with a maddening edge to his voice.

Fantastic, now I owe the ranger gold.
Rikar Sarakin |
Rikar keeps quiet as the others speak, ready to leap on the giant if he appears to threaten his friends.
I'm not sure Rikar can actually still be unseen, since he has no concealment from the giant, but I've posted as if the giant hasn't noticed him.

"You do not wish to speak to a god! He made me a god! He is here!" the giant says to you, but he looks around at the others who were not paying attention to him and then settles back to a sitting position and ignores you.
Moving thru the cavern, you reach the edge of a deep, dark chasm(K8). There seems to be no easy way to descend, as the inner walls of this chasm are slanted inward from the precipice, so they are extremely hard to climb; in addition, they are quite slippery from moss and ancient humidity.

Good rolls
Misha Keroun |
Misha recognizes the baiting for conversation when she sees it, and for a moment is torn between pausing and asking, and avoiding what might otherwise end up being yet another fight. She reasons any information given them by the giant would be twisted by madness, and thus unreliable, and moves on when the giant does not impede their path.
Misha looks at the chasm when they reach it, and smiles at Therena. "Good call on casting that air walk spell," she says. "And I've got feather fall and these magic boots if it runs out prematurely." Misha steps out into the void and begins to walk downward as if she were walking down an invisible staircase.
Rikar Sarakin |
Quite pleased with their avoiding this particular fight, Rikar moves away with the party, hoping his appearance doesn't startle the giant into action, rather than half-mad words.
As they walk down the corridor past the giant's chamber, Rikar casts a glance at Telman and holds out an open palm, then rubs his fingers together in the universal symbol for 'money.' "Not sure how I ended up on this side of the bet," Rikar whispers, "but end up there I did, eh, Telman?"
When they reach the great chasm, Rikar kneels by Latys' side and has a quiet conversation with her. Laying a hand on her flank, he stands, and they stride out into the air, joining Misha in walking on nothing into the chasm.
Not sure if a Handle Animal check is required, since Latys has enough Int to talk about walking on air and have it explained to her. If a check is required, it's likely a DC 25 to 'push' her. Some rolls for that below:
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Following Misha lead, the group air walks and fly down the chasm. It is a long walk down, over 500 feet. Reaching the bottom you see two exits from this large cave. One to the north that goes into another large cave, and one to the south that bends out of sight.
This cave is pitch-black, probably the darkest you have seen thus far. A strange wind blows across the cave, almost like a moaning…

If Josef's dancing lights aren't enough to illuminate the area they need lit, Misha will add her own to help give them a perimeter of visibility.
Looking north and south, "I'm thinking larger area before windy path?" she points to the north as her choice.
"Boys, you wanna scout ahead?"
Josef Guardson |
"Be careful, who knows what lives or lairs down here."
Josef holds his bow ready after sending out his dancing lights.
Therena |
Therena casts her daylight SLA onto a copper coin and holds it aloft to add to the lighting down here. She uses a mage hand spell to send the coin out up to 45 feet away from herself.
Rikar Sarakin |
Rikar gives a glance at Kreig, then says, "Yep, we'll scout ahead. Going to be tricky to sneak up on anything with all this light, but better than me bulling my way around in the dark, eh? At least we can go quietly, if Kreig doesn't trip over a stack of china cups filled with little bells."
He pats Latys on the side in a long-practiced signal, and the pair move off together towards the large cavern to the north.

At the last moment, Rikar notices that two of the stalagmites are not rock as the two creatures each throw out a single tendril and attack Latys and Rikar.
