Feeling pitty for the woman Borris moves closer trying to sooth her like he would anny rabit dog he doese not speak but tries to aproach her as charismatic as he can(weapons on the floor arms streched crouched head low) when he gets close enough he tries to hugh the woman showing he has no intention of harming her. Trying to exert every charismatic bone in his boddy he tries to sooth her and calm her down.

I dont know if it is posible but im trying to use some sorth of diplomatic/handle animal aproach to calm her down I'll roll some checks if they can be aplied cool otherwise ignore them. Also Borris doesnt mind if the woman hurts him he wil take the pain and stil be trying to be charismatic. in the mindset that even the wildest animals can be tamed.

"Choking her seems kinda mean... but I don't wish to see her killed even to save us..." she speaks up quietly and tentatively. She'd nearly forgotten her own fear of talking around other people after the horrors of his mountain. At least until she started to do so. She hopes Borris's attempt will work so no harm would come to her. She has been hurt enough already, as far as Redona is concerned.

As the reality of the four prisoners starts to sink in to everyone, you, in your own way, are handling the situation.

Misha words soothe the four prisoners, and as she looks at broken woman, she is not sure what if anything short of healing magic that is beyond hers or Redona abilities will work to cure the woman. As she is figuring this out, Borris lays down his weapon and shied and moves closer, keeping low and non threatening just like he would approach a wounded animal. The woman, responding to this, allows Misha to approach and she drinks from the offered skin, allowing the water to enter her mouth and swallowing as best she can. She seems to calm down to the point where Kreig can unlock her shackles, and she stands, not moving from Borris side and holding onto the Paladin's arm.

After unlocking the shackles and moving back, Kreig, tries to remember anything that he has heard about Griffon tribe, then he speaks to Aeghad, who replies, there is a creature in the cavern, thirty feet back then to the right that is the master down here. It is a huge creature that has four long tentacles writhing from this three-eyed fish-like creature's flanks, and its green body glistens with thick, clear slime. I do not know what it is called, but it is dangerous.

Kreig:
People of the Griffon Tribe are leaner and fairer than other Morudhain, their gazes hard and full of violence; Griffons are in fact the most warlike among the Morudhain. This does not mean they march around challenging or conquering other tribes, though it does mean rising in arms against them is always a bad idea. The Griffon Tribe’s strength and bravery are unmatched among the Morudhain – although members of other tribes will gladly prove their own strength on anyone that says that aloud – and their racial pride is such that they will not even breed with other Morudhain.
The lands of the Griffon Tribe are far towards the western Moru border, near the northwest riverbanks. They have defended this land against countless invasions from neighboring realms and held their ground for many centuries.
Morudhain is what the peoples of this land call themselves.

Rikar scratches his head and thinks a moment as he stands in the tunnel nearby, but he cannot imagine what kind of creature Aeghad could be describing. He moves a bit closer to the man, so he can speak quietly, and says, "We passed that chamber on our way here. Does the creature you describe live in the water? Can it come on land as well? What can you tell us about it, so we can fight it?"

Aboleth – Huge Aberration (Aquatic)
– An Aboleth is an aberration that is found primarily in the darkest reaches of the sea.
– Aboleths are among the world’s oldest forms of life, and disdain all other life forms and even the gods.
– An aboleth’s excretions take away a creature’s ability to breathe air, but grants the ability to breathe water.
– Aboleths have psionic (spell-like abilities) powers and can exude a slime that causes a hideous transformation in their victims.

"Aboleth," Misha says. "It's definitely an aboleth. His description jogged my memory further. They're ancient, ancient, awful things who think of all life, from deity to dog, as beneath them. They have mind bending magic and ooze a flesh-warping slime--it turns an air-breathing creature to a water-breathing one, but that's only where the mutations begin."

She looks around at the group, both her party and the four Griffon tribesmembers. "I think the main order of business is to get these good folk out of here, and think about what we want to do--thinking about killing it is all well and good, Rikar, but we need to be prepared for this kind of thing. This creature is probably what drove out the dwarves, and it has probably only grown stronger since. Marriage jokes are over... I have no desire to come all this way to end up thrall to the skum." Her eyes flicker over toward the pregnant woman. "We also need to see to Scanna safely, and this is not the place to do it."

Turning to Krieg, "We still have that spare suit of leather armor in Josef's bag of holding. If only we had enough protection for all of them. I've also got a spare sword and could lend someone U- my crossbow." She nods to Baehlin, the woman who is neither mad nor compromised. "What about you, miss? You seem to have managed to keep a cool head for all the hell you've been through. Can you fight? Not that we'd ask any of you to if we can avoid it, but I don't know what we'll face trying to get out."

Narrator [Maps, handouts, pictures: Links in top of page spoiler]

Aeghad responds to Misha, yes, I can fight, so armor and a sword will do nicely. When given the armor, he dons it with ease, and swings the sword, nice balance. This will do. Lead on. He looks over at the three women and comes to a decision, I would like to kill all the fish creatures, but we need to protect these women. There is an exit to the west which leads to the Haunted Lake, then down the mountain.

Baehlin also responds, no, I don't know how to use anything other than perhaps a club. I can help with Scanna, and my mother Maeghun. We are all simple farmers from Meadowvale. But I will do what I have to so we are not taken again, she grimly replies.

Misha is glad Aeghad can use her old sword effectively. "Keep it, it's called Dice," she says. "It's killed a few foes and I hope it helps you take out more."

To Baehlin, she pulls one of her flasks of acid out of the sack and hands it to her. "This is acid, so be careful--but you don't need to have a soldier's training to throw it. If our ranks break and you find yourself open to attack, toss it." Misha considers handing Scanna a flask as well, but fears that she, being understandably suicidal, might try to drink it, and refrains.

"Red, boys, you got anything to do or say? Otherwise, you all okay with heading for that exit to the west?"

The spare armor is +1 studded leather, just as a reminder to everyone.

Kreig thinks for a moment trying to take in the full measure of what this new information could mean. Time was he'd cut and run, chalk the whole thing up as one big loss. But things are different now. While he isn't a hero by any stretch of the imagination, Kreig is learning what it means to be a dwarf after his father's own heart.

He glances about the cavern and wonders if he's the first dwarf to wander this section in a generation. The creature Misha had described sounds like a large part of the reason his brethren hadn't been back. Then there are the freed people here, looking as though the very definition of horror had taken them. One of them secondly preferring the end of life before facing this horror again.

He glances up as the others ready for departure. He hefts his bow and knocks an arrow, a grim determination in his countenance. Had his Uncle Jasper been present, he'd have remarked at how much like his father Kreig looks in that moment.

"Whatever that beasty is, we'll see how his ancient hide stands up ta 50 dwarves puttin' their longhammers where tha sun don't shine..." As he passes the Griffon tribesman, Kreig gives him a reassuring nod. "We get outta here, I'll make sure that monster comes to a reckonin' fer what he's done ta you n' yours."

Kreig waves to Rikar. "C'mon, Longshanks, back ta quiet time. Sooner we get outta here, tha sooner I get back to my workshop n' start cookin' up somethin' fer this abo-whatsis ta cram up its keyhole."

On his way out of the cavern, slipping back into the scout role, he runs a hand along the cavern wall. He hums a tune from the days when his father still had hope for his young son, when there was the wide future stretching out before him. A few of the words come to mind and he sings them low and with the weight they deserve.

"Torag je nákova krúžky
Kováreň požiare horia jasne
Jeho údery kladivom a železa
spievať iskry
Torag pripraviť na boj ..."

Dwarven Song:

"Torag's anvil rings
the forge fires burn bright
His hammer strikes and iron sings
the sparks of Torag prepare to fight..."

Kreig opens his eyes and realizes that he's stopped short of leaving the cavern. The song felt more like a prayer for retribution for the passion growing in his heart. Instead of feeling a sense of embarrassment like he had in the past, Kreig stands straighter and looks to the others. "The hand o' Torag shelter us," he intones, voice low and determined. He holds a hand towards Redona. "And tha light o' tha Dawnflower greet us to tha mornin'."

With that, he turns and heads into the next tunnel, knowing Rikar and Latys be would be close behind.

Baehlin nods to Misha, that I can throw. Thank you for helping us.

Kreig, with Rikar and Latys following closely, head out, and following the directions from Aeghad, you reach the outskirts of what seems to be an immense lake; in fact, the lagoon seems to stretch out of the mines and even out of the mountain, as a faint light can be perceived from the far side of the water. The water is a bit less swamp-like than in other areas of the mine, though it is still quite dirty.

Aeghad tells you that if you follow around the northern shore of the lagoon, everyone should be able to walk without swimming.

While Baehlin is able to help with her mother and Scanna, when they all get to the water, a fear starts to set into all of the former prisoners. You see that Aeghad is gritting his teeth hard, and manages to keep the fear in check, but two of the women, Scanna and Maeghun are starting to lose whatever composure they had gained when freed.

Water, this area Aeghad responds thru gritted teeth, as he and the women move next to the cave wall, and he keeps the sword in front of him, both as weapon and shield. This is where they, and he pauses as though trying to throw off memories, did things to us. We have to get out of here now.

As you look around, there are no ripples, nor any signs of the humanoid fish men, but all four ex-prisoners are on edge. Maeghun, who had started to calm down, grabs onto Borris' arm and will not let go, as she whimpers in distress. Baehlin, fighting the fear as Aeghad is, is soothing and cooing Scanna who starts muttering in a soft voice through tears, kill me, please kill me.

You continue on thru the flooded mine exit, and come to the outside of the mountain, about a quarter of the way down, and on the northern side of Mount Moru. There is a waterfall that drops for three hundred feet further down the mountain, then turns into a creek that runs the rest of the way down the mountain to a lake at the bottom. There is a very steep path going down the almost three thousand feet to the lake at the bottom.

Aeghad, now that he is out of the flooded mines, seems to brighten up as the sunshine hits his face. Pointing to the northwest, that is where my people are. If you will help us down the mountain, and lead us there our shaman will help the women, and I swear to you that I will see them back to their homes.

Misha shudders at the thought of what the skum and aboleth must have done to these poor people. She thinks of her sister, far away and hopefully safe in Magnimar, and thinks of the things she would do were Marga attacked like that (or what Marga would do were Misha attacked). When Scanna starts muttering, she says, "There's no need for that, love, we can find another way." Once they are out of the cave, where the memories are doubtless most traumatic, Misha tilts her chin toward Aeghad and Baehlin and asks, "How long ago did... this... happen? She nods and addresses the group. "Let's see them down... I wouldn't mind having an opportunity to talk to the locals anyway."

Back to Aeghad she asks, "How did you all end up here, anyhow? I know it's painful, to talk about, but my comrades and I are going to come back here--knowing anything we can about others who have visited the mountain would be helpful to us."

As they step into the open, Rikar and Latys both take deep breaths of the fresh air and visibly relax, the great cat shifting her shoulders pleasurably in the sunshine. Rikar nods back at Misha, "Of course we'll see them down. It'll be good to get a look at this side of the mountain, and the locals may have information of use to us, as you say. Who knows what their legends might tell us about the creatures in the mountain?"

When Misha asks her questions of Aeghad, Rikar listens intently, eager to know as much as possible about this place. Latys, for her part, finds a sun-warmed rock and curls up on it, looking completely relaxed but for one eye partially open and observing her surroundings. A deep, rumbling purr can soon be heard coming from her.

I was captured two months ago says Aeghad tersely, as if the questions bring back painful memories. All the women were here already.

Baehlin, while still helping with her mother and Scanna, says my mother and I were taken from nearby the Haunted Lake at the bottom of the mountain about three months ago. Scanna was already here and like she is now.

As much as he's at home in the belly of a mountain, Kreig can't help but feel relief at being in the open air. There is something oppressive about the mines, perhaps owing to the horrific tale of Aeghad and the women.

When Misha mentions getting them back home he agrees quickly and begins going thru not inventory of his gear. He gestures for Misha to hand over the Handy Haversack and withdraws the 50 feet of silk rope, his set of pitons and the pair of iron spikes he uses for prying doors off their hinges. Then from his own pack he pulls his hand-crank drill. "I can set us up fer tha climb down...we can go in pairs, leapfrog style it tha rest there to support the line in case of a fall."

The dwarf grins at the others as he begins laying out the accumulated gear. "Just gimme what ya got by way o' rope n' mebbe spikes if ya got 'em. I can walk ya thru."

Using the climbing skills of several in the group, you all manage to scale down the three hundred feet to a small pond at the bottom of the waterfall. Kreig and Rikar find a trail that leads the rest of the way down the mountain that you do not need climbing gear for.

The further away from the cave that you get, the calmer Aeghad and Baehlin look, as if being in the sunshine and away from the skum is easing their fears. Scanna stops her murmuring, and even Maeghun is somewhat calmer, although she does not stray far from Borris.

About ten minutes from the bottom, Aeghad stops, turns to the group and while speaking without stopping, he removes the armor. My people should be waiting once we get past the end of this trail. I will fold my arms across my chest so they know that you are friends and will not attack. After I briefly speak with the Shaman, he will welcome you. Then we we can go to my village where he will do what he can for Scanna and Maeghun, and also welcome you with food, drink and shelter. He finishes removing the armor and puts it along with Dice on the ground in front of Misha. I must return as I left, and I must be silent till after speaking with the Shaman. He nods to each one of you and begins walking ahead without further speech, and without looking back.

Are we able to recover any of the rope and pitons after we use them?

Misha nods understanding to Aeghad, and takes the armor and sword and puts them in her haversack for the time being. She thinks later might be an opportunity to give them to him as a gift, but she's not going to argue with custom for now.

"Lead the way," she says, and is ready to follow with the rest of the group. She stays quiet as well; normally talkative, Misha finds herself silenced by the thoughts of what the aboleth and the skum did to these four people still reel through her mind, and she further ponders how they might contest with such an ancient evil. She knew that they had to though--or the aboleth and its servants would do to others what had been done to Scanna, Maeghun, Baehlin, and Aeghad. Not to mention, they needed to continue to explore the mountain---they had still found only vague remnants to support Fiall's findings, and there must be more to the mountain than what they had found so far. She wondered if the aboleth and skum had been present when Fiall came to explore, and if so, how he had managed to avoid their territory.

Aeghad leads the way down the last part of the trail, and steps out onto the badlands that are part of the Morudhain landscape. You all follow in silence but notice that Redona seems to be deep in thought, more than usual. Aeghad walks perhaps fifty feet when from behind rocks, bushes and other hiding places steps fifteen men, spears or swords in hand.

Aeghad stops, crosses his arms and nods towards the group. The men lower their spears and swords and from behind the group an older man steps forward. He is covered in tattoos and walks to Aeghad. Come with me. He leads Aeghad off behind several bushes and you see a small shelter that they duck into. A few minutes later they emerge, and the old man says the spirits know his name. We welcome our brother back. All the men set up a cheer at this point and go up to Aeghad and with much joy, slap him on the back, and bring him some armor and a spear. As he is donning the equipment, the old man approaches the group, and once there, Aeghad has spoken briefly of you. Please come back to our encampment, for food, water and shelter. You will be our guests. He looks over at the three women, and says I will do all I can to help them. The one that is expecting, we need to move her quickly, as it looks like her time is near and she needs my help now. As for the mad one, I will do what I can, but may not be able to help her.

Redona turns to the group, I will stay here and help. While I do not wish to leave you, I feel that my duty is here.

The old man, says to her your help will be welcome. He then instructs some of the warriors to make two litters so the women may be taken back to the camp.

I've been remiss in communicating with her. Perhaps because it has felt like she has been here with me." She gives Redona a final pat on the shoulders and, stepping back as Redona moves to follow the others with the women, tips her brim just a smidge lower, to better hide her eyes in shadow.

A moment later, she turns back to Aeghad and the shaman, and her grin is there once more. "Well! What was that about food?"

Kreig continues down the path adrift in his own thoughts. The change in scenery and the transition from death to a modicum of life is jarring. His inner dwarf still feels the pull of the mountain just over his shoulder, the deep desire to see those once dwarven-held mines go back to Stonehold. A strange thing, dwarf pride. Kreig isn't used to the emotion. All the years he'd spent in Kaer Maga, pride for his race was the last thing on his mind.

But here it is; a dwarf given to a life of selfish pursuits and ignoring his father's upbringing...only to find himself among a group of explorers and in the service of no less than the leadership of Stonehold. Add to it he feels a sense of belonging among these people after only a short time together. Leagues different than his dealings with 'friends' back in the streets and back alleys of Kaer Maga. It's the only way to explain the sudden pain of loss at Redona's announcement that she'd be staying in with the Griffon's to ease the suffering of the afflicted.

"Ya gotta big heart, darlin', glad ta see ya puttin' it ta good use." Kreig tells Redona quietly and gives her a gentle pat on the forearm. "Always remember, ya got more guts n' most I seen."

After the party says its goodbyes, they move on to gladly accept the generosity of the Griffon tribe. The fresh food and rest goes a long way towards clearing out the cobwebs. But one thing stays lodged in his mind; how was he to get word to Stonehold about their findings?

He takes an opportunity to discuss a few points with the others, looking for a moment privacy. "I'd like ta get word ta Stonehold, ya reckon we can do so before headin' back in to tha mountain? I wouldn't mind acquirin' a dozen 'r so dwarfish guardsmen before fightin' this aboleth..."

I am Gerlock the man replies and holds out his hand. Now that he is close, you can see the cloudiness in his eyes. He must be blind. Back to the camp.

It is a short hike back to the village, about thirty minutes. Once there Gerlock and Redona, along with the three women head into the largest tent. A few minutes later, a young woman with flowing hair and azure and violet eyes comes out of the tent, and heads to Misha.

Therena:
You were in the shaman's (Gerlock) tent, when he brought the women in. While Redona and the "normal" one kept the feral / mad one quiet you and Gerlock tended to the very pregnant one. He cast a spell (Remove Disease) on her which caused her body to expel fish headed creatures and almost kill the women. He then cast several cures, and she is stable, but will be bed ridden for several days. She seems to be more normal, but she wants to go back to Meadowvale (see the map off the main campaign page, Moru Country) to her husband. Gerlock asked you to tell the group and introduce yourself, while he tries to help the feral / mad women.

While the women were being taken care of, Aeghad comes to the rest of you with several men. He is armored in a very nice chain armor, made of very small but silvery links, and has a spear in his hand, bow over his shoulder and a short sword on his hip. All the weapons look to be of exceptional quality. Once again, thank you for rescuing me and the three women. The men with him nod and bow slightly. Aeghad continues, we welcome you as tribal brothers and sisters. Our home is your home. The feast will be prepared and you will sleep in my hut tonight and he points to the 2nd largest hut in the encampment.

Edit: Dang, cross posted with Kreig, and I *have* to go to a meeting. If I make it back in under an hour (unlikely), I'll modify this, otherwise will add more.

The young woman stops near Misha and the others, still gazing back at the Shaman's tent in wonder. "Wow! That was really intense!" she says in a jolly, upbeat voice. "Normally after delivering a pregnant woman, I'd come out and announce whether it was a boy or girl, but I've never had to come out and announce a mass of fish-headed creatures! I assume none of you are the father?" She glances at the men in the group before turning back to the tent.

"She'll be fine, though. Mr. Gerlock stabilized her quite nicely. She wants to go home, but it won't be for several days yet."

It takes Rikar a moment to understand what Redona is saying, even with Misha's reaction to it. The young acolyte of Sarenrae had always been quiet, but fixed in her purposes, and it was clear that was truer than ever now. "You've been brave, Redona, and saved my life a handful of times. I thank you for that, and I wish you well in staying here to help these people - they are getting more in you than they can imagine."

As Rikar says this, Latys nudges him firmly, and he steps forward and envelops Redona in a hug. The big cat then bumps her massive head against Redona's hip, rubbing along it with her furred jowl and marking Redona as one of Latys' kin.

He releases her and they begin the short hike back to Aeghad's village, Rikar walking along by Kreig and chatting companionably, still very glad to be out under an open sky, with a fresh breeze blowing. "You may not feel this way, Kreig, but I'm glad to be out of that mountain for a moment. I've learned a lot about moving and fighting in those tunnels, but a breeze that smells of grass and water is a nice change from one that smells of stone and strange creatures in the dark."

He listens to Kreig's question and says, "I don't know, Stonehold's more or less on the other side of the mountain from the lake here. How would you get word to them? Or are you thinking we travel around to them and go back into the mountain from that side?"

Now-ish

Rikar is slightly surprised by the striking woman stepping out of the tent, quite different in appearance from the others of the Griffon Tribe. He is even more startled by her announcement, however, "You delivered her of what?! That's horrible! It may seem worse to me because we don't speak of delivery and such things among my people, but you seem pretty cheery. Perhaps it was not so bad?"

He pauses for Therena to respond, then says, "At any gate, I'm glad to hear the girl will recover. I am Rikar Sarakin, of the Shriikiri-Quah." He lays a hand on the head of a large mountain cat at his side and says, "And this is Latys. And as much as it surprises me sometimes for a man of my tribe to be part of such a group, yes, I am a Pathfinder."

When Therena emerges, Misha is a bit taken aback, despite she herself sometimes being guilty of inappropriate enthusiasm. Replying to both her and Rikar, Misha says, "Well, it was very quick for that to be a real birthing, and I heard no cries from Scanna. I presume they used magic to... relieve her painlessly." She gives Therena a hard look. "That woman was raped by Skum, twisted aquatic creatures, and all of them tortured for months. Perhaps that's amusing to you, but I would hope not, given your assistance to them. I hope you can at least feign a little compassion while they're still here."

Misha shakes her head, sighing. She adds, in a softer tone, "And if I am lacking in compassion, I am sorry. It has been a very long and difficult day. No wonder Red wants to leave. Anyway yes, as Josef and Rikar noted, we're Pathfinders, on a mission here. Is it the same with you?"

About ten minutes after Therena comes out of the tent, Redona comes out, looking pale and shaken. She walks up to Misha, and speaking barely above a whisper, Gerlock could not help Maeghun. I will be escorting her back to Meadowvale and perhaps the priests at the Temple at the Last Shrine will be able help her. Baehlin says she will come with us. We will have to wait a few days, and bring Scanna also after she has recovered from her ordeal. The spell that Gerlock cast on her essentially caused the fish things to die, and her body got rid of them. It almost killed her but she will be ok. Tell the others that I am sorry, but I really feel called to do this. She turns to go back to the shamans' shelter then stops and retrieves some thing from her belt pouch. Take this green tear. It belongs with the mountain, not me. She then hugs Misha one final time, and finishes her walk back to the shelter.

"I'm sorry. I seem to have offended. What you describe sounds absolutely horrible. The fact that those amazing women could endure that and come out even slightly sane is a testament to their strength of character. Would it help ease their pain for me to cry and be gloomy? They have endured hell, and with help, will survive, so I will celebrate."

Misha shakes her head, and rubs at the bridge of her nose. "I'm not asking you to grieve, or feel any way in particular. I was concerned for the women within. They were probably not out of earshot, as you had only just left the tent, when you talked about their ordeal as if it were a great adventure--if I had been through what they had, and heard the attendant talk about it like it was some great new thing, I would have felt disrespected, to say the least. If you spoke of their strength and courage from the start, my impression would have been much different."

She gives a weary, wry smile. "Believe you me, I am all for seeing the bright side of things where possible--if not frequently yelled at for having an inappropriate sense of humor myself. But after a day that started with fighting gargoyles, goblin shamans, and a demon, had a middle of fighting an aranea and a mad morlock, and ended with fighting the captors of Aeghad and the women from Meadowvale before rescuing them... and climbing thirty stories down a steep mountain... my own courage and strength may be intact, but less so my humor. I expect it will return with time, starting with sleep and a good meal, not necessarily in that order."

"I am a Pathfinder. I was passing through Kaer Maga when a Venture-Captain and cheerful fellow named Dale asked if I'd mind a short detour, so here I am."

"Dale! Did he say why he wanted you to come here? Oh, and I am Misha Keroun, Explorer Extraordinaire." Despite her obvious fatigue, Misha manages to doff her hat with some degree of panache. As she does so, a spray of dust and grime gathered from within the cavern and climbing down the mountain scatters from the hat. Misha sticks out her tongue and looks down at herself, aware for the first time what a mess she looks, and, distracted by this to forget the conversation a moment, begins to clean and straighten her gear with judicious invocations of the mending and prestidigitation cantrips.

Redona comes out and gives Misha the tear, which Misha accepts, and returns the young woman's hug wholeheartedly before releasing Redona to go back to her duties. As Misha holds onto the tear, a little of her impatience fades from her face. She doesn't quite notice this, but does mentally take note she receives no vision this time, so it definitely seems to be a first-contact only sort of thing.

"We'll figure out what to do with this later." Misha says to the others, for now putting the tear in the waterproof pouch on her belt.

It should certainly go to Therena once she formally joins the party.
