It's possible we get lucky and she gets staggered and/or nauseated with the snowball and stinking cloud combo...
If so, we POUNCE hard and murderface her face. With murder.
Rikar Sarakin |
I agree, Telman, it made sense to follow Kreig's lead, especially given how effective we've been in fights recently. And, though I don't especially want Rikar to be unconscious on the floor, I do very much appreciate it when games surprise me.
One of my better PbP moments was my ranger dying while soloing an ice troll in Reign of Winter - epic, exciting, actually made my heart pound. So I don't mind this sort of twist at all. But I think we may have to end up making nice, in order to avoid all of us dying.
Rikar Sarakin |
Wow, cool!
Therena |
Therena is updated. I've had her prepare communal resist energy for when they have to go back at that djinni.
GM, is this feat okay? It looks a bit different.
Does anybody have any suggestions for a good choice for her single sorcerer 2nd level spell? I tentatively selected mirror image. She also has the option of using those slots to cast 1st-levle cleric spells, like bless or protection from evil.

Nice feat. Yes, you can take that.

Telman Raoul |
I had Telman done with another fighter level but now Im reconsidering .... will have him finalized very shortly.
Therena, Im always a big fan of the olde favorite web. just noticed [url=http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/a/arcane-disruption]Arcne Disruption[url] that could be interesting.
Misha Keroun |
I will level up as soon as I can. Still running a bit wild/busy.
I get 3rd level spells! Yay! Let me know if anyone has any suggestions. I might go boring but various utility with Dispel Magic. (IF ONLY I could get protection from energy, but at least Therena has that!).
Are we all still chatting before we go to the dwarves or are we talking to the dwarves?
Rikar Sarakin |
I love that feat, Therena! Have seen it put to very good use in PFS play.
I'm working on leveling now, might be a day or two before I'm done.
DM Papa.DRB |
No problems. Take your time guys. I'll hold off till Friday or even Saturday before posting again, unless something changes drastically.
You are still talking with the dwarves, and among yourselves. Ground will come around during the day, just to check in. He knows that you have arrived back into the mine level.
I presumed you would spend the night, here or just outside in relative safety to heal and spell back up.
Therena |
Channeling isn't her focus, as she's a mystic theurge, but she would be able to place any combination of bane, ghost touch, or disruption on two weapons per day. I'm thinking bane (evil outsider) combined with resist energy, fire (which takes 10 fire damage off each attack, such as the individual rays of fire from scorching ray) will help their cause a lot.
Web is nice, too, but more situational. I'll think it over.
Rikar Sarakin |
DRB - I think we can keep the conversation going in the gameplay thread - as long as we're leveled up before we start rolling a bunch of dice, there's no reason to hold off on posting.
Telman Raoul |
agree.
Ive reconsidered my reconsidering, so Telman is ready to go.
took Fighter 6
Feats: Many Shot and Clustered Shots
BAB, Fort, Ref, Will all +1
briefly thought about another sorcerer level, but the primary reason was to get this from 1 round duration to 2 (thanks to Magical Knack trait):
Cold Steel (Sp): At 1st level, you can touch a weapon or up to 50 pieces of ammunition as a standard action, giving it the frost property for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 your sorcerer level (minimum 1). At 9th level, you can confer the icy burst property instead, but the duration of the power is halved. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.
in the end I decided it wasn't the best trade so went with the fighter level. Now he's all set to start taking Arcane Archer levels.
Josef Guardson |
Level up complete.
Took wizard 6
Feat: furious focus
Bab, fort, will all +1
Learned Undercommon
spells: slow, sheet lightning, resist energy
Now hitting at +11 (2d6+14 19/20) all the time.
Therena |
Therena could also take create pit and be able to spam those, freeing Josef up for a more useful second level spell (like mirror image).
Or there's always invisibility.

Because I'm playing the Spell-Less Ranger class, and I've never played one before, I still learn new things from time to time about it. The archetype I'm playing is the Companion-Bound Ranger - which turns out to make me function much like a druid in terms of animal companions. I already knew my druid level is equal to my ranger level for the Latys' stats, but I just realized I'm not limited to the ranger's list of animal companions - I can pick anything a druid can.
So, I'm wrestling with questions: Go to a Large cat? Pick something else entirely, after retiring Latys? Ignore the temptation of too much cheese and play as we are?

@DM Papa: I've been tossing the idea around of going up a level in Alchemist owing to Kreig's dabbing in chemical traps. I'm 90% there to do it, but had a request rules-wise...
Instead of the fire-based bomb am alchemist can toss at level one, could I switch that out with a frost-based bomb? Is mean is not have access to the fire one until level 2. I'm thinking he'd angle in that direction mentally because of the realm in which they've been adventuring. Fire seems to be dirty of an enemy at this point.
Frost bomb*:
When the alchemist creates a bomb, he can choose to have it inflict cold damage. Creatures that take a direct hit from a frost bomb are staggered on their next turn unless they succeed on a Fortitude save.

Yes, this is ok with me.
If you take a second level in Alchemist the discovery you must take will be Fire Bomb (ie. your normal 1st level bomb).
This effectively switches Fire and Frost, which is ok with me.

You can "switch" out Latys, if that is what you really want. In order to do this, you all will have to exit the mountain and spend a day outside "calling" a new companion.
Let me know, which animal companion you would like to switch too, if you choose this route.

Kreig Ironhand |
That also gives Kreig a better window to up his skill set.
*gulp gulp* KREIG SMASH!
Rikar Sarakin |
I think for the foreseeable future I will stick with Latys as my animal companion. It feels much better story-wise, and it's not like Rikar and Latys have a desperate need to crank up their melee performance. And, at 7th level, Latys can use Rikar's stealth attack class ability, so each of her attacks will do an extra 1d6 when they flank.
Riding my AC would be fun, but it doesn't seem very necessary in these tunnels. If we were in a campaign on wide-open grasslands, I might think differently about this. I will, however, regret not being able to live out Kreig's dream of Rikar as He-Man. I'll have to get Latys a red plastic face-helm to make up for it.
Rikar Sarakin |
Finally have Rikar (and the loyal Latys) leveled up. He and Latys were pretty effective before, but are now going to really pour on the melee damage! With teamwork feats and the Spell-Less Ranger's stealth attack ability, he'll do 5d6+13 per hit with his greatsword when he flanks!
Let's mow down an efreeti!
Misha Keroun |
I am glad you're keeping Latys!
Misha should be all leveled. Took Weapon Focus in Short Sword (finally). Skill points in Know (arcane, dungeoneering, local, planes), Perception, Stealth, UMD. Spells: 1st feather fall (one of those ones you may never need, but are really glad when you do), 2nd (favored class bonus) tongues, 3rd dispel magic and thundering drums (I picture Misha generating the sonic cone with her whip...)
Rikar Sarakin |
DQ! Wow, top 16! That's phenomenal. Congratulations! I liked your map, can't wait to see your monster.
Misha Keroun |
Thanks so much! And sorry, I'll be busy again the next few days (also, I have jury duty tomorrow). Bot Misha as needed. I trust y'all would know what she'd do at this point. :)
Josef Guardson |
Fyi: in Vermont for the weekend. Internet spotty, plus vacation, so may be radio silent.
Please bot as needed.
Rikar Sarakin |
Having some computer issues and about to head to a weekend con, will be quiet for the next few days.
Telman Raoul |
Wanted to apologize for disappearing for the last few days: I got hit really hard by Cupid's arrows this weekend......one caused a leak in my waterheater which needed to be replaced, the other caused my wife to trip on the ice and break her wrist in two places. Stupid hallmark holiday.......
Rikar Sarakin |
DQ! Top 8, that is amazing! A massive pile of congratulations upon you!
Kreig Ironhand |
Woohoo! Keep going! I want to tell people I know someone famous! :) Good Luck DQ!
Misha Keroun |
Thanks guys! Obviously I'm pretty busy till Friday at 5. Please bot Misha as needed.
Misha Keroun |
Hey y'all, just cause I've been busy, doesn't mean y'all shouldn't go on. There's been a lot of radio silence lately, y'all okay?
Josef Guardson |
All is well.
Just been a bit occupied.
Cold & snow = busy work days for me
Misha Keroun |
Ah. Well there certainly is plenty of that going around.
Kreig Ironhand |
I've just realized my last from last week didn't take. Doh! Kreig's still around and very uncomfortable dealing with a ghost. The dm has tread upon one of his biggest fears. Heh. I'm bummed my last post didn't land because I go into that fear.
I'll get something in the boards today.

Clever use of the intentional typo, or another dwarven thong?
Rikar Sarakin |
DQ - sorry you didn't make the top 4 in RPGSS, but you had a hell of a run. You produced some really cool stuff, I have been very impressed! I look forward to seeing what you bring next year.
Misha Keroun |
Thanks very much! I was very glad for the opportunity -- but as much of course as it's disappointing in some respects, I am also glad I now can have a breather and focus on some other things for a little while. I've got some committee work with my religious community and a big concert with my chorus coming up so I am glad to be able to focus on those things alone.
I hit top 8 so I am actually banned from ever entering again -- but the good news of is that the reason top 8 or higher can't re-enter is that Paizo thinks folks who hit the top 8 have professional enough chops to start doing freelance. It's actually quite a vote of confidence, and one I intend to take seriously. :)
