Here again are the Character Creation rules. One change, Maximum gold for your class at 1st level (instead of average).
Character Creation and Maintenance
- My preferences in general, are single class, core rulebook characters, but others are allowed.
- No Gunslingers.
- NO CN, or Evil alignments.
- Pathfinder RPG 20 point buy (1 Ability score 8 or greater, all others 10 or greater, *after* racial adjustments)
- Two Character Traits (1 can be a PF Society trait if you wish)
- Maximum hit points every level
- Maximum gold for class at 1st level
- When you stat up your characters, I will audit them in gruesome detail, and expect them to be kept up.
Anything within the PRD is available for use, with some exceptions:

Just got back from a RL game I run. I confirm that Dain Harladorn will be playing in your campaign. Still undecided on the fighting style, but it would be chosen soon. Will post with character sheet completed in a day or two.
Misha Keroun |
Misha is here and rearing to go!
I need to adjust and add to my equipment, I think she's at avg starting gold now and I haven't even spent all of that. Also, she's an archeologist and a bard, would it be too stereotypical/cheesy if she carried a whip? Still largely doing the 2-blade style, but whips can come in handy. :)
Is it okay if she buys a mule? She can share it with the party to help carry their gear. I realize of course it can be a target and could get killed.

Misha's question about the mule brought a related question to mind: Should we buy equipment for a long journey (mounts and feed, rations, tents, etc.) or will the Venture-Captain provide such gear? Horses and such only make sense if we all have them.
@Misha; Of course she can carry a whip! Yes, a mule is fine.
@All; You will be taking a boat up river, and besides your guide, the group and the boat crew, it only has room for two animals, horse size or smaller.
@All; Once you leave Meadowvale, you will need water, rations, bedrolls, and other gear so you might as well buy them now with your initial gp. Venture-Captain Thorn will not provide gear for you.
Edit: He is paying for your transportation to Meadowvale and the guides services. All to be explained in opening game play post.
Carol (my wife) and I will be leaving to visit my daughter (every other Saturday afternoon) and grand daughter. While I have a mini-tablet, it is hard to post on these boards, so any more questions will have to wait till this evening.

Cool.
Guys, what field are you putting your stats in?
Josef Guardson |
The class/level field.
So it looks like I'm the primary arcanist...
Scrolls & wands will be very useful soon.
Misha Keroun |
Updated equipment. Problem with UE becoming available is I start thinking stuff like "but I need a grooming kit!" Even though often that stuff isn't really strictly necessary. I may rethink some purchases but she's there for now. And no, she doesn't have much in the way of a ranged weapon.
Also, I need to name the mule.
ETA: Also, any languages that would be particularly appropriate for her to know? I was rather generic with my choices.

Looking at your background, no particular language. However look at the map of Moru Country for ideas.

Borris grew up with his mother who is half shoanti and his father a Paladin noble. He knew his grandfather very well he was a chieftain of one of the shoanti barbarian tribes demolished by the Giants in Varissia. His Grand-father was a Shoanti barbarian Chieftain Master in the Arts of Thunder and Fang. When Borris was but a boy he was in awe when he saw his grandfather practicing with his Earthbreaker and Klar in hand. not even his father A high stationed Paladin could wield both.
Borris grew up with all the luxuries of the Noble's but when he reached puberty got quickly bored. This is when he started training with his Grand-Father who was so proud his Grandson wanted to learn the Ancient Shoanti way. But before Borris could master this fighting style his grand father died of natural causes leaving his Earthbreaker and Klar to his Grandson.
Borris is torn between 2 worlds he would like to honor his Shoanti roots as well as the traditions of the paladin order of his father, this is why he is now traversing the lands seeking for adventure to learn what is the true meaning of his life.

Traits Rich Parents (If allowed),
@Borris: Argh, forgot about that one. Sorry, no. Rich Parents is not allowed. And no apologies are needed. I read your Raymond entry. Those were some dang find stats you rolled! Edit: Oh, you still need to do your skills.
@Rikar Sarakin: Goma is a normal guard dog, not your animal companion. He can "become" your animal companion at 4th level if you choose.

Dain is progressing fine, should be finalized tonight. I have decided on "reach weapon" build finally (hopefully with some tripping attempts, too little feats for a dwarf), although two weapon fighting with dwarven urgrosh sounded very tempting also.
A quick question for GM - would a Heirloom weapon trait (within Equipment traits) for a proficiency with very, very exotic eastern weapon called "Meteor hammer" be considered as too munchkin? I am perfectly fine if you say that it would, I'll simply take one of dwarven reach weapons with no "cheesy" combination :-)
Rikar Sarakin |

-- david
Yes, I know. I thought it would flow better and make more sense if Rikar had animals as part of his story before suddenly getting an animal companion at level 4. There's a good chance I won't go with a dog for my companion at that point, anyway. Can I assume I've used my Handle Animal skill to train him, rather than trying to take time once your campaign starts? Goma would then be trained on six tricks.

Heirloom Weapon trait specifically states simple or martial weapon, and Meteor Hammer is an exotic weapon, so no.

Yes you can assume you have used Handle Animal skill and Goma is trained. If not him, what animal companion were you thinking of? And this is ok with me....

Rikar Sarakin |
I was thinking of a small cat, off the ranger animal companion list. Given that we'll likely be in the mountains, I thought it would probably make sense for it to be a bobcat or lynx or something similar. My only hesitation in that choice is that Rikar is of the Hawk Clan, so a hawk companion would make sense thematically. But it works less well mechanically - a bobcat as a flanking buddy could be very helpful, useful in tracking, etc.
So I'll ponder it and see what develops over time, but those are my thoughts.

Another really minor question - would it be OK if I switch Dwarf Racial Trait Greed (+2 on Appraise skill checks with precious metals and gemstones), for one of the following alternative Racial Traits - either Craftsman (+2 to Craft or Profession related to metal/stone) or Lorekeeper (+2 Knowledge/History). Both are detailed on pages 11/12 of ARG and they are replacements for Greed racial trait. Should be OK, but just wanted to check with GM?

OK, thanks. I am also pretty keen on giving Dain Craft/Armor (or maybe Weapon) skill. Could you tell me if there will be an opportunity to use this skill anywhere later on in your campaign?
I am guessing based on your reply regarding the Rich parents trait that using Craft skill prior to beginning in order to cut down costs of starting equipment (MW version of armour) is not allowed?
Rikar Sarakin |
I've added Rikar's dog to his alias. I've seen some people put their animal or animal companion up as a separate alias. That seems to make more sense when it's an actual animal companion who's more likely to be taking its own actions, so I'll leave it as is for now unless you'd prefer a separate alias for him.

Yes, it could be used. That is up to the group as to whether they want to wait while Dain crafts items.
Correct, no crafting before beginning.

No need for an alias for Goma. Also, not really sure an alias would be needed for your animal companion later. I usually do not have animal companions roll initiative, but go at the same time as their "master".

Dain (almost) ready for your "inspection". Few minor details to tweak, but I'll leave that for tomorrow. This european is going to bed (02:00 AM just passed here :-) G'night all
Ok, will look at all the sheets on Monday afternoon or Tuesday.. I'm almost ready to go to bed myself. It is 2200 here, and about 30 minutes ago, we finished our Sunday evening group. Serpent Skull this week, and I am a player. Next week it will be Shattered Star and I am the DM.

O.o Sorry, I totally meant to check this but I've been sick this weekend and didn't think about it at all... Hopefully I'm not too late to say "Hi I'm still interested and glad you picked me."
I'll get what I can of the character done tonight, but I likely won't have it done till tomorrow after work, and I'll go ahead and make the appropriate alias.

I've posted what I've gotten done tonight under Redona's profile. I'll finish it out when I pick up her equipment and whatnot tomorrow.

just wanted to let you know aperently i cant get in the gameplay section of the forum. i do however got my own Ipad i can do it during break and lunchtimes :)
Ah the joys of being employed! (chuckle). Now that I am retired, I have lots of time to play on the computer......

i would also like to add how excited i am and would love to get my hands on more reading material if there is any of the setting i only really know Varisia as my friends and i are playing rise of the runelords aniv edition where i play a half elf barbarian :-)
The adventure is a box set that is "setting neutral", so I set it in Golarion. Read up on the Cinderlands area of Varisia near the Hold of Belkzen. Moru Country is there (in my campaign, it is not official!). As the group adventures, you will learn more about the area, the people, their gods, etc. and especially Mount Moru.

please let me know if i still need to put up more info and give me an OK when you think everything is in order to start playing?
i would really like to get an OK :-)
I will be going over the character sheets today and tomorrow. However, since it is snowing here, my wife is off from school and she wants to use the computer for a while, and I will have to shovel the &^**&%* snow later, it will be more towards tomorrow evening than today when I finish, but we will see.

Doing the checks in alphabetical order, because as a DM I am Lawful Neutral. As a player, quite Chaotic Good!!!

@Borris:
1) What is your favored class? If Paladin, you have 1 too many hp (10 + 1 Con). If Fighter, you only get favored class bonus @ 1st & 2nd level.
2) You have 1 more skill point (2 fighter + 1 human).
@Dain:
1) Deity? (none is ok also)
2) Have not completed him yet, wife wants computer... back later
