Knowledge(local) is a broken skill. Others can be similarly abused in a game like this. As we advance to other worlds, there is no reason to believe that suddenly I'll know Wookie marriage ceremonies with Knowledge(religion), or the mating habits of the Thri-kreen with Knowledge(nature).

Hilde leads the way towards the farm house as Kit chuckles and follows the not so stealthy barbarian. As you move closer to the farm house, Dilwyn discovers tracks that are no more than a couple of days old. They are shod boot prints of a probably large humanoid. They enter the house at the only door, which is locked.

Furnished with a mildewed sofa and three dusty rocking chairs, this parlor’s floor bears a thick layer of grime, as well as a few hardy weeds growing between the floorboards near the front door. What does this do?

Round 1, Init 16

So, only the one guy, and no sounds of others coming behind him? I'll drop grease on him. Centered on the his left rear corner, so it catches him, and the square to his left, but NOT the squares between him and us.

DC 14 Reflex, or he falls on his butt prone, thus giving our melee guys a +4 to hit him, and an AOO when he tries to rise.

"There's this Vuelib again," says Dilwyn, shaking his head and shrugging. "Vuelib's apparently got it in for us, but I have no idea who he is or why he hates us so much." The rest of what he'd do depends on whether or not the guy fall prone, so I'll prepare for either option with spoilers so I don't hold things up.

If he falls prone...:

Dilwyn can't help but chuckle as the large adversary slips and falls. Making the most of the tactical advantage this possesses, he moves up and swings his staff down at the greased-up enemy.

+1 luck

If he keeps his feet...:

Since the enemy managed to shrug off the effects of the slipperiness, and there isn't a lot of room to maneuver around him anymore with the patch of grease, Dilwyn decides to let Kit and Hilde get up close and personal with their adversary, while he instead conjures a small ball of ambient electricity and flings it at him.

(B3) This dingy bedroom holds eight, dusty bunks draped in cobwebs and reeking of mildew.

(B4) This communal bedroom is painted a soft, rosy hue, and holds four, dusty bunks, as well as the collapsed ruins of what may have been four more. Thick sheets of cobwebs hang between them and over a fireplace in the southwest corner. Underfoot, a multitude of gaps and holes show in the haphazard floorboards.

Going up the stairs, you come to a long hallway and more rooms:

(B5) This small, dusty classroom contains 16 child-sized, wooden chairs, all neatly stacked against the south wall. A blackboard decorated with chalk drawings hangs slightly askew in the middle of the west wall, and several pieces of white chalk lay on the floor nearby.

(B6) This small bedroom contains a bed, tiny table, dresser, and a single chair. A large, open trunk also sits on the floor, containing various articles of discarded clothing, all sized for a very large man. You all notice that there is a gray-green stain on the pillow. Underneath the bed is a large collection of wood-cutting tools. They include three wood axes, a lathe, chisel, and several hammers and saws of varying size. A large key also lies among the tools, carved from a single piece of black granite marked with the symbol of a flying raven.

Knowledge (local or nobility) DC 15:
The emblem is of the noble Arvarenhode family, once given purview of the woodlands before their lineage died out many decades ago.

(B7) This musty bedroom is modestly furnished with a large, canopy bed, a small desk and chair, a wardrobe, and a cold fireplace. A dusty rug covers most of the floor. The smell of decay emanates from an ill-preserved, partially mummified corpse of an old woman still lying on the bed in a threadbare nightgown.

After inspecting the house and come back down the stairs, you notice that Silam is starting to wake up.

Iskender picked up the key. "The flying raven huh? That is the Arvarenhode family I believe, unless I am mistaken. They used to have the run of the woodlands back before their line fell fallow and died off. That was some decades ago." He looked about at his companions, "Were there any keeps or other places marked on that map that could have belonged to them where this key might be of use?"

I presume nothing above was magical or valuable then?
