From the corner I believe both Tyr and Elk'lyn are out of the blast.
Try tries a shot with his bow, moving as necessary, but not getting within that channel range.

We'll pluck ye feathers yet birdie! Gundar says as he brings his hammer down but the bird-man deftly moves away from the swing.
Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Again shaking off the bird's attempt, Úlf fights off the brunt of the wave of pain and nausea that wash over him. He growls low in his throat, stepping forward and turning his axe against his foe while shouting,"Úlf is getting really tired of you, crow-man!"
Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 1 = 10

Corby: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 111d8 ⇒ 31d4 ⇒ 2 Really????
Tyr and Elk'lyn both shoot at the corby, and hit it with their arrows, while Ulf and Gundar both miss with their weapons.
The corby meanwhile, swings with the nicely made longsword in one claw, and reaches out with his other claw, but misses the dwarf.

Good golly. Three of my last four rolls have been a 1 or 2.

Úlf growls in frustration, tired of missing against a foe that obviously has no means of escape and desiring nothing more than to end this overly lengthy fight.

Birdie, will you just go ahead and die already?! I got better things to do!
Ulf if you don't do it, then hopefully mine does! This thing can't have too many hit points left!
Tyr* |
Tyr steps within the 30' radius to gain his Point Blank Shot advantage and fires an arrow but in his hast to loose the shaft fumbles the shot.

Tyr steps up to be within point blank range, but it does not help. Elk'lyn also has a difficult time hitting the creature. While Ulf does not quite put the creature down, Gundar final hit does kill it.

Gundar will call upon Torag to heal his companions wounds.

Should I call on more healing?
I am thinking with that roll, it will probably be a yes!
He was a tough old bird. Hopefully he doesn't have a friend like him! the Dwarf adds with a chuckle. Let's see what he had, especially that wand!
Tyr* |
Tyr, still wounded, answers If you can Gundar. We all need more healing to continue.
Tyr* |
Tyr's wounds completely close. My thanks Gundar, to both you and Torag. I am ready to proceed.

?: 1d20 ⇒ 111d4 ⇒ 1
Gundar channels Torag blessings on the group and heals most of the groups wounds. Searching the dire corby, you find, two scrolls of cure moderate wounds, one scroll of dispel magic, one wand of inflct moderate wounds (10 charges), studded leather, masterwork longsword, and a silver unholy symbol.
Next? You have two doors in this room, or you could go south and walk all the way around, over the entrance gatehouse to the other side of the second level.

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |
Úlf snorts in disgust at the haul after learning what each of the things does.
"Wand we can use, yes? Turn it against our enemies. Silver symbol...Úlf thinks we should destroy it now. I do not want anything like that traveling with us. Is liable to bring bad luck!"
Gundar Ironbeard |
You okay, Elf or would you like some more healing? Gundar says to the still badly wounded Elk'Lyn as he reaches for the cure light wand from his pack.
I agree with Ulf, Anyone who would want to buy this unholy symbol would be no one we be wantin' to do business with!
Party treasure has been updated without the unholy symbol.
He still does not like the idea of walking on some roof. Me vote is for the double doors! he offers.
Elk'lyn |
"Save if for later friend Gundar. Hurt I may be, but you already helped enough." says the elf when the dwarf offers more healing.
Then, she sets to the small door and whisper "let's explore this first"
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 +10 for searching traps...
... and after confirming there's no danger at all, she is ready to open the small door.
Tyr* |
Tyr considers the unholy symbol. Pity to throw away the silver though. I'll melt it the next time we camp and we can sell it for the value of the silver. Considering the longsword. This is fine workmanship. Better than the sword I carry. If no one else needs it I shall carry this until such time we might be able to sell it for a reasonable price.

Elk'lyn: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Tyr: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Úlfheðinn: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Elk'lyn checks the smaller door first, and not finding a trap opens the door and you see a small room with a bed and wardrobe in it. This room must have been for the shrines caretaker. Searching thru, Tyr spots a chest tucked under the bed, all the way in the back and after moving it into the open, and Elk'lyn checking and not finding traps on it, she opens it and you discover four +2 evil outsider bane arrows, a scroll of cure moderate wounds, a scroll of remove
disease, and a scroll of restoration.
Elk'lyn then checks the double doors, and hearing nothing and find no traps, stands back and lets Gundar and Ulf open the doors. Straight ahead you see a corridor that looks to open into a room. To the left a corridor with several doors off of it.

Tyr will recommend that he and Elk'lyn each take two arrows and the scrolls go to Gundar.
Gundar Ironbeard |
Aye! Gundar nods in agreement. We sure have done a lot of walking and are no closer to finding out what ails Ameiko! Should we check out the end of the corridor before we start knocking on doors?
Party treasure has been updated except for the arrows.
@DM: How much is the unholy symbol worth after Tyr melts it down, and can that amount be added to our coin total?
DM Papa.DRB |
You can not get a fire hot enough at a simple camp, it would take a blacksmith shop to melt down the unholy symbol.
And moving along......

Heading towards the set of suites to the left of the double door, you find a five bedrooms that have nests in them. Feathers from the dire corbys are found in the nests. In the bedroom, third left from where you are, there is no nest and this seems to be the master bedroom. Searching thru these rooms, you find nothing of interest.
Entering the room with table, you see a filthy room. Bird droppings and other filth are all around this room. There are multiple doors, and a set of stairs going back down to the main hall.

Ulf pinches his nose shut, squinting as the various chemicals in the bird droppings and other filth irritate his eyes. "Wherever we are going, let us go there fast!" he says as he looks to the numerous doors opposite them.
Tyr* |
Tyr will cast Detect Magic and search this room before moving forward.
Gundar Ironbeard |
Gundar sees all the nests and begins to count the nests and the 'chickens' they killed. He gives up on the endeavor and glances upward. What is it with this place and chickens? he asks. I'm with Ulf, let's move on. The smell is making me lose me appetite and as you all know, it takes a lot for me to lose my appetite!
Elk'lyn |
Urgh, bird s++$. Damn
The elf reluctantly searches the place for anything of value, trying not to touch anything too wasted.
Then she proceeds to search the doors north of the table, from right to left, starting at the one nearer the double door. starting to look at the doors from the one in K31

?: 1d20 ⇒ 141d4 ⇒ 4
As Elk'lyn opens each door, the group goes thru the four rooms that make up this corner of the second floor of the keep. Two of the rooms(beds in them) are obviously servant quarters, that have not been used for a long time. The door(L30) leads to what was probably a washroom at one point, but with the corby habit of just relieving themselves anywhere, this room is cleaner than normal. The final (leftmost) room is a storage closet that contains trash, fallen and broken bookcases and other clutter.
Each room is searched and Tyr tries to see magical auras but it seems that the corbies and other invaders have taken everything useful and trashed the rest.

Three door exits (J35, O23, O25) and a set of stairs downwards to the main floor
Tyr* |
I am fine with you advancing us logically searching until the next encounter…
DM Papa.DRB |
I will do that when there are rooms (caves/whatever) congregated like this. With the three exits you have, you would take off in different directions, and may / may not have an encounter, so rather than push on, this is more a decision point then just searching the cluster of rooms.
