Petrel spent some time moving boxes around, making sure there were no lost rubies that slipped into any of the crates. A bit tiring, but he is feeling better now and ready to explore.

OK here we go, let's hope my schedule can be kinder now that we're approaching summer...

For the latest map update, I've switched to using 'U' for Mukluk, 'O' for Mobled and 'A' for Martigan to avoid squeezing two letters into the player indicators.

Latest Map

As you all reach the bottom of the long stairs, the ceiling above you drops beyond sight, over sixty feet above you at it's highest points.

You all get the sense that something lairs above you, with the occasional sound of wings and the feeling of moving shapes high in the ceiling above.

The cavern is much like the descent - shiny wet rock, a musty odor, and stalagmites and stalactites riddle the area.

There are four semi-obvious ways to continue...

1. Climbing up the stream that empties from the north and crosses the cavern.

2. Climbing into the water and following the stream to the south - this appears somewhat undesirable as the top of the water is only inches below the bottom of the cavern leading this way.

3. A passage to the northeast.

4. A passage to the southeast.

Please remind me of all light sources at this time. And remember that you can only see as far as the light allows for your particular race...

Tiabrar doesn't mind being the recipient of a light spell if available. Otherwise he's dependent on others. He seems to not have packed any light sources.

"Shall we cross the stream and continue to the northeast? Perhaps it follows the stream. If so it might lead to another place where the water was put to use."

As I recall, I was the recipient of a light spell when I was in the lead. I presume that is still the case. If not, I'm carrying a torch.

"I agree with Tiabrar, we take the northeast passage and keep to the left. See where it leads us. I'm not keen on mucking about in the water unless we have to. With creatures flying overhead, who knows what might lurk in the depths as well."

Doruk makes ready to proceed to the northeast, or wherever the group decides.

Mobled peers about, wary of falling stalactites with mouths. "I was in this caern once, fightin' draugr, and a stream like this led the way out. It may be I'd rather stay dry for now."

Without further ado, Doruk starts heading down the northeast shaft either just behind or in front of Mobled.

I posted the next room, but somehow it disappeared...


Check on Doruk and Martigan having the 2 sources of light on the glaive and shield respectively.

As the group forms up and crosses the stream, they find the slippery mud on the bank of the far side a nuisance as it cakes on the bottoms of their boots and makes for an inconvenient climb into the next natural cavern.

Combat Map

The next cavern possesses a high ceiling as well, along with several passages that branch away from it.

To the north, a 10-foot wide square mouthed tunnel shows that someone has been at work in these caves.

A strong gate of rough-hewn timber blocks a small passage to the northeast. Three other passages wind off towards the south.

A heavy, animal smell lingers in the air.

Before you have a chance to consider the room further, a lizard-like creature covered in mud stirs to Mobled's right, intent at swinging a crooked club at the dwarf's body.

Mobled seems to take forever to focus her eyes, but she's actually quite fast. "Hey now, ye scaly fiend. Watch yerself." She attempts to get a hold on the creature, tangling its arms up in its dorsal fins. She is intent on crushing the breath out of it.

Tiabrar's arrow zips over Petrel's head and lands squarely in the shoulder of the snarling lizardman standing in the north.

Meanwhile, Mobled gets the drop on her assailant, teaching the troglo-lizard that dwarves can be faster than it has learned.

The creature near Petrel seems to reconsider approaching with it's club and instead squats for a moment as a yellowish-green gas erupts from somewhere on it's body and rolls over everyone.

DC13 Fort save vs it's stench or be sickened. Everyone needs to make this save.

Mobled's trog works desperately to reverse the hold back on the dwarf, but her stubby fingers sink into it's scaly hide and hold it fast.

A third trog launches a javelin at Doruk, but it may have well launched it at it's stench-inducing friend, who shakes an angry scaled fist as the weapon clatters against the cavern wall beside it.

The fourth and last trog works desperately to open the pen in the northeast corner of the room. The pen opens... what effect this happens unclear at the present.

Martigan moves towards the northern trog, and gives it the sort of Peloran clobbering that St Cuthbert would be proud of.

Mobled continues to squeeze and punch the life out of her trog, while Doruk and Tiabrar both miss the ones they aim for.

Martigan's foe Strikes Back (must've been the wonderful smell comment), biting the cleric (-4HP) while the one Mobled holds struggles futilely against it's grappler.

His companion steps forward, hoping to capitalize on the distracted dwarf, and slashes across Mobled with two claws (-9HP total).

With a rumbling roar that shakes the very cavern, a shaggy, mud-covered brown bear comes rumbling out towards Doruk, slashes with a meaty claw of it's own, but luckily Doruk parries away the attack in time.

The fourth and final trog gurgles something at his companions and begins to withdraw from the chamber, out of your light.

Haven't posted Mukluk's round 1 action in case he wishes to revise it.

Petrel somersaults past the trog attacking Martigan, but his dagger finds only air as the creature ducks away at the last moment.

Mukluk's wand discharges into the hindquarters of the fleeing trog, but it continues its escape, while Tiabrar's arrow glances off the thick skin of another trog.

The trog facing off Martigan counterattacks, raking another claw across the cleric's exposed flesh (-4HP to Martigan) while his sickened companion spends more time coughing up gas than truly threatening Mobled at all.

Now directly facing off against Doruk, the bear roars as it stands on it's rear legs and then collides downward against the Shieldlander, it's mighty claws screeching as they tear between two of the steel bands of Doruk's armor. (-6HP to Doruk)

Giving Muluk a little bit longer to get his post up, as I'm certain he's at or traveling to his 'Con. Petrel can probably post another round of attacks on trog#1 which will likely stand as I'd expect Mukluk to do something against the bear or the fleeing trog somehow.
