The trio of strikes from Giovanni, Maiden and Bon seem to simultaneously hit the watery abomination as it quivers for a moment like a fruit-based gelatin desert on a runaway carriage before suddenly exploding bits of watery goo over everyone.

(Normal water elemental, just feels like they should do something interesting)

Out of combat!

As the water drips from everyone's armor into the 2ft high water they are standing in, this area of the Spire feels strangely quiet again except for the rushing water of the waterfall spilling into the room beyond.

Giovanni breathes a sigh of relief when the elemental collapses.

He then cautiously explores the room, being careful to not get too close to the waterfall.

Perception 'Take 10' = 25.

Following this (and after healing has occurred), he heads through the corridor to the east.

Bonaventure keeps the wand of bless to hand as he scans the room with detect magic in case he missed anything, and assists Giovanni in his search. He also scans the next room with detect magic before Giovanni enters.

Zora has 11hp to mend. I imagine some wand charges are used. I suspect folks can always roll these after combat with Giovanni's aid with their own wands. Zora, you also have the option to have purchased a wand before this delve.

Finding little of value in the flooded room and being wary to avoid the current near the rubble wall that falls into the larger room beyond, Giovanni slogs through the water to the east to explore the room that direction. Charis, Zora and Bon form up and follow.

A half-submerged shimmering area on this room’s north wall occasionally spurts out water. Sturdy tables stand about a foot above the water level. Some are stacked with crates, others with bedding.

Having recently skimmed the undine's notes, Bon is quick to realize this is likely a portal that provides a connection to the Elemental Plane of Water.

This room is also flooded to 2ft, making it difficult terrain.

The portal shimmers briefly before pulsing and almost seeming to breath like a living creature before a rush of dozens of gallons of water spill into the room, carrying along with it several strange orange-yellow fish and crabs.

The distraction of the small aquatic life joining the room isn't enough to prevent you all from witnessing as the water shudders and an immense water-man rises to meet you. It bellows and rushes forward at Giovanni and Charis.

The Maiden tumbles into position so quickly, the watery elemental cannot even react (flat-footed). It then swings a massive watery limb at her direction, but she's more than ready to dodge it.

Sorry, my post from yesterday is missing... anyway, Zora will take the GM up on the offer for a CLW wand (thanks for offering to share, Maiden, but really Zora should pony up for her own...) and use it.

Sadly, elementals cannot be crit.

Giovanno and Bon both narrowly miss landing a hit, while the Maiden's latest strike seems to not even be noticed by the large elemental creature. Zora takes on a defensive pose, but the elemental has little reason to lash out at any others besides the Maiden, who seems to be its only foe capable of landing a strike. Once again, a large arm of water crashes onto Charis, nearly knocking her down (10 damage to Maiden).

I'll advance and let Bon double up on his actions, so we can keep this moving. This looks like it'll take a few rounds of Giovanni connecting, and then a bunch of wand charges to wrap up neatly.

With Zora's help, Giovanni lands a solid strike, seemingly causing quite a bit of "substance" from the elemental humanoid to disperse. The Maiden finds another weapon from her arsenal lacking as she fails to connect. The large elemental turns its attention towards Giovanni, seeing little reason to pummel the Maiden at this point.

It has 10ft reach, but you could've 5ft step back to end your last melee attack, and 5ft step back to begin your ranged attacks to cope with that. I'll assume you got out and rapid shot for 10 and 5.

Charis lands a pair of arrows into the creature, but only the first seems to have any effect (5 dmg). Giovanni lands a blow of his own (6 dmg), with Zora's assistance in distracting it.

23 damage total. It still appears quite... intact.

Its worse then that... as per the rules for frowning, because I am unconscious in water, I automatically *don't* hold my breath, and start drowning. So, stabilising really isn't the issue.

For the record, I stand by my recommendation that the best way for us do damage this thing would have been for Bon to spam Magic Missile ;-)

The only character I lost was against an elemental. They are really tough to beat if you don't have the right stuff!

Drowning rules state that you need to start making Con checks. I can magic missile, however I only have so many first level spell slots, I don't think I have enough to take it down, and once I run out of first level spell slots I can't really do much. Once we actually get under the water I was hoping to be able to summon aquatic creatures. Is it possible for me to grab Giovanni, drag him back five feet keeping his head above water, and magic missile the elemental?

Seeing Zora leap to Giovanni's aid, he backs away and launches a magical attack at the elemental.

Like a hero, Zora rushes in and gets Giovanni upright and drags him away (I'd say that obviates the need to roll any drowning checks). Meanwhile, Bon and the Maiden both find success in their ranged strikes.

Unfortunately for the Maiden, Giovanni's collapse and her luck with a bow gets the elemental's attention. As it closes in, it swings a massive limb at her which she easily sidesteps.

Yeah, I'll spend my last point of Ki to keep my AC up at 26. Also, I'm provoking, hopefully it doesn't have Combat Reflexes, so you can take the chance to get away.

Charis ducks under its watery arm and sees Zora flip Giovanni upright. She breathes a sigh of relief. "That's right, pay attention to me."

She draws upon her last ounce of insight to guide herself as she nocks another arrow (provoking an AoO) and fires another pair.

The elemental lashes out once at Charis as she fires a pair of arrows, but her keen focus allows her to see the swing coming as she ducks below it before continuing to fire her second shot.

That's 3+4+6 more damage; 13 total. Elemental has taken 52 and still stands.

Maiden's second shot narrowly soars through the center of the water-man while Bon's magical missiles thud-thud in tandem.

52+10+7=69 damage done. It has 68hp!

Suddently, in a dramatic burst, the elemental being loses all ability to stay formed on the Material Plane and explodes, spraying salty water over all four of you.

Out of combat.

The room returns to quiet, save for the sound of rushing water from the nearby falls.


A quick search of the room turns up several days’ worth of common wine and unremarkable food, while one of the crates contains a potion that radiates a magical aura.

Beyond the way you entered, you also notice two grates in the floor below the water seem to lead deeper into the complex
