I prefer not to bot Shardra in a tough fight, so hoping Twigs checks in shortly.

GM Rolls:

Shardra Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6
Will vs Shardra channel: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Misaki AC25 w/smite up.
Ghast bite: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 miss
Ghast claw: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 miss
Ghast claw: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25 for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 hit

Nearing the 48 hr mark, so I'll bot Shardra.

Shardra once again channels holy energy to wound the ghast. Some more of its flesh rips away, yet it still stands. It retaliates by clawing and biting at Phantomblade. The tengu dodges the worst of it, only suffering a single scratch from the assault (8 damage, and Fort DC19 or be paralyzed for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 rds.).

Round 2
25 Ghast (42 dmg) : Bites and slashes at Misaki for 21 damage, paralyzing her
16 Vrothum : Grabs Misaki, dragging her to safety
15 Phantomblade : Moves in and misses the ghast
14 Shardra : Channels for 3
9 Pinball : Heals Misaki for 9

You gotta make a fort save, Phantom. I'll wait on my action until I know whether Phantom is paralyzed or not.

If he could, Vroth would stand over phantom and attack the Ghast.Assuming he fails his save.
Raging:Bite: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 2 = 181d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
So this will take place if Phantom ends up Paralyzed, and I will alter stats accordingly if that happens. Doesn't look good. If Phantom doesn't fail his save, then disregard this post.. Edit: I was posting this before I saw that the others posted. So either way if there is space I'll attack, and if I could charge then I would've as well.

We await Phantom's save vs the paralyze.

If he's not paralyzed, he misses, 5ft steps back and Vrothum moves in to swing.

If he is paralyzed, someone can drag him back and Vrothum still moves in to swing..

The stench is DC20, so Vrothum is sickened, as well.

Still Up: Phantomblade (for his save), Pinball, Shardra (and possibly Misaki if she's no longer paralyzed).

I was just assuming I was still paralyzed. I figured you'd tell me when it wears off.

Just going from memory, but I thought ghoul paralysis was a random number of rounds, not something where you get another save every round like Hold Person. And the only reason I remember that is that this is Misaki's second adventure in a row getting paralyzed by a ghoul. I really thought advancing to level 4 and boosting my fort save from +5 to +11 would stop that from happening again.

@Misaki: I think you were making enough saves I wasn't rolling duration. Or that Vrothum or Phantomblade would get the felling blow in before it mattered. Your duration will be 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 rds.

This makes round 3 your last round, and you'll be acting in round 4.

On realizing Phantom is now paralyzed, Pinball groans and tugs the tengu backwards, toppling him into their own square and freeing Vrothum to move forward.

Standard: pull Phantom back. Swift: activate personal trial on the McNasty (just buffs Pinball, doesn't affect the baddie).

GM Rolls:

Ghast Will DC16: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Vro AC17 raging, Ghast -2 evil eye

Claw: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 10 - 2 = 14 for 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 miss

Botting Shardra again.

Shardra goes for one of her hexes (evil eye, vs attacks), hoping to prevent the ghast from mauling Vrothum. Seeing it barely take hold, she begins to chant rhythmically.

The others work to land a single blow but instead end up draging Phantonblade back.

Vrothum tries to bite the ghast, whose eyes glint with hope at the thought.

"You ssssseek to bite me? How about I return the favvvvor?"

The ghast does indeed bite Vrothum back (13 damage, and Fort DC20 needed to avoid paralyzed condition for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 rds).

"I hate being paralyzed! I thought you said Shizuru would protect me better from that if I ran into ghouls again," she says, with an angry glance at Whistles.

For now, I'm waiting to see if Vrothum is paralyzed before taking my turn.

Silver Crusade

Male Harbinger Archon Emissary Familiar 8

"You're definitely better at resisting the paralysis now. Unfortunately, this thing is just a lot tougher than the ghouls we faced last time."

Unlike most paladins that add their charisma to their saving throws from level 2, this archetype doesn't get that until level 4. Last adventure, Misaki was also paralyzed by a ghoul, but she was only level 3 at the time, so her fort save has increased from +5 to +11 since then. But that didn't help, because this ghast's save DC is so much higher than normal.

Vrothum:
Normally I'd suggest you make your save first before any attack rolls, and correct such in an edit (thus your roll of 7 on the bite was needed for the Fort save prior to making any attacks).

In PbP, it's good form to always have saves rolled first versus having a random roll (and the highest/natural 20, at that) in a series of 4 mostly attack rolls happen to be the one used for a saving throw.

It's fine this time, as the likely outcome even if you were paralyzed would be now-active-smiting-Misaki would step up and smite the ghast into oblivion. I'll post narrative reflecting such a shared outcome below at any rate.

Vrothum heaves a bit, staggering backward at the ghast's latest strike. His body shudders a bit as he struggles to maintain control.

Misaki, regaining control, also strides forward, ready to take Vrothum's place and strike their undead enemy should he fall...

In a blur of combat... Vrothum clawing... Misaki's katana slashing, the ghast slumps to the floor, a dry hiss rattling from its body.

Out of combat!

@Vrothum: I'll also need a Fort save for the ghast's disease effect from the last bite.

The prisoners in the cage stir, bites on their exposed flesh clearly evident.

"Help us!"

"Let me out!"

"Please... I'm so... hungry and thirsty..."

DC15 Perception:
You discover a hidden switch beneath a floor tile at the far west end of the room.

Empty Cell, Large Chest:
A large chest rests in an empty cell containing 1,600 gp worth of Cassomir trade bars.

On the floor next to the chest sits a masterwork longbow with 20 arrows and a set of finely crafted bracers.

There are six prisoners in total.

And here I was prepping to take up the torch once Vrothum got locked up, heh.

Pinball sighs as the creature falls. "Well, that could have been worse."

Trotting into the room beyond, Pin looks around. Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

Pin doesn't see what Pin doesn't see, but looks with concern at the people in their cells. "Hang on, we'll get you out of there," she promises. To the others, she says, "Is anybody trained in medicine? Those bites look nasty. I can try and heal them but they might get infected, down here in the sewers."

Pinball begins to look for a key to the cages, on the body of the fallen undead or, well, anywhere.

No key to the cages is readily found, but Phantomblade can make quick work of the locks.

Heal or Knowledge Religion DC12:
The prisoners have all been bitten by the ghast and have all contracted ghoul fever.

They are also all at 0hp and sickened from the stench effect. Poor, miserable souls.

They will turn into ghouls around 48-hours after they contracted the disease.

"Thank you! Please sir, it smells horrible in here!"

"...oh," Pinball says with another frown, fretting with his prayer beads. "That's bad. I think the ghoul's bite already has gotten to them. We'll need to make sure they get to a temple and get some healing from disease. But for now..."

IDK where Shardra stands on her channels; it would be more economical to use channels given that several in the party, plus these prisoners, are hurt, but I'm more than willing to use my wand to heal the prisoners if Shardra is on a GMPC-with-no-resource burning.

Given it's been a few days since Shardra checked in, and I imagine in character she'd be helpful in this way anyway, we can assume she uses her 3rd and last channel of the day.

"Certainly, I can help..."

She includes all the bitten prisoners.

Shardra Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8

It sounds like you are letting the prisoners out of the cages despite their affliction (you probably don't have a choice with Misaki around).

"Are you after the derro? They used some sort of switch over there..."

One of the prisoners gestures at a floor tile.

"It made the whole room shudder, and then that door you came through went somewhere else!"

Thanks for the feed back.

Pin is also able to ascertain that the bites on Vrothum and Phantomblade also are consistent with their contracting of ghoul fever.

Misaki seems to be unaffected.

If that would be Shardra's last channel for the day, let her save it, in case we need it in later fights. I'll channel instead. We can use the same roll, so everyone heals for 8.

"Let's get the prisoners out of here, so they can get out the way we came. Then we can flip the switch they told us about to follow the derros. Is there a way to open the cages and let the prisoners out?"

I'm assuming we'll have some way of getting them out, even if we need to break the bars of the cages.

Once the prisoners are released, Misaki guides them out and directs them to the ladder back out to the prison.

She then pulls out her wand of Cure Light Wounds.

"Anyone need their wounds healed?"

Cure Light Wounds on self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light Wounds on self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light Wounds on self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

The prisoners are quickly freed by Phantomblade's pick-work and sent on their way towards the prison, where presumably the officials of Cassomir where provide the aid they require.

As press the switch under the tile, the room rumbles and shakes (see the Sewers map for how it pivots) before revealing a new passage leading into the Darklands. Clearly one of the captives has been leaving behind these breadcrumbs for you all to find.

After a few hours of following the trail, you spot a larger cavern ahead.

Salt deposits line the cavern and several side passages branch east and west and run rich with blue crystals before ending at cave-ins. Eight smoldering torches illuminate a small tunnel ahead—beyond all is pitch black, though the sound of running water echoes out from the darkness.

Signs of a battle can be seen here between broken arrows, darts and bloodstains. It appears different small-sized denizens of the Darklands fought against each other.

Phantomblade notices a larger scrap of paper under a rock here.

Note:
Hope is lost. The mites attempted a coup, but were betrayed by their own and murdered. My mind tires and I long for mercy in the bellies of the mite’s vermin rather than face the unknown terror that waits when the derros force me into the fetid pool I’ve heard bubbling in the room beyond.

Sounds of chains, coughing, groaning and moaning can be heard in the distance.

New map, 'Grotto' has been added. The area connecting the two sections is a tunnel and not a bridge (this varies on this Darklands map by scenario).

Silver Crusade

Female Aasimar (Angel-kin, Tian-Min) Chosen One Paladin 8

Pardon my slowness, busy few days. Minor retcon tag:

Before they move on from the chamber where the undead had been, Pinball squints into the big chest and discovers trade bars. "Oh. Useful! We'll come back for those!"

Pinball looks worriedly at both Vrothum and Phantomblade. "When we're done, you two should really go to a temple," he informs the two. "I think Misaki's okay though."

****

Pinball gazes around with a little grin at the blue crystals. It's sort of pretty down here. She reads the note that Phantom has spotted aloud to the others. "Uhoh. Mites and derro. And some sort of nasty pool. Be prepared!"

Pinball casts shield on herself and runs after Misaki. (self-casting, not scroll, so full four minutes)

Pausing to let others cast spells as desired. I'll advance tomorrow morning since that'll have given 36 hours for folks to check in since you've arrived in the grotto.

Phantomblade sneaks ahead of the party to the chamber beyond.

A large pool fills most of this chamber, its green waters bathing the high ceilings in an eerie green light. The pool is open to the cavern on the south and east sides, but borders the cavern walls to the north and west. On the north side of the cavern, a small alcove sits above the water line, inside of which rests a small stone table. Dozens of corpses float serenely on the surface of the pool.

There are dozens of derro engaged in battle with dozens of prisoners and mites in the room beyond (not depicted as beyond the scope of the scenario and don't to confuse things...).

A trio of derro seem to be marching ahead towards the tunnel, seemingly ignorant of Phantomblade's presence. They have all drawn crossbows and seem to have hostile intent.

I should point out that Misaki is an angel-blooded aasimar, not the default variety, so I don't have the usual Daylight as a spell-like ability. I can see in the dark, but someone else will have to bring a spell of some sort to deal with the darkness. Come to think of it, I do have a Wayfinder. Can the light from that overcome a Darkness spell?

Edit: Looked it up, and the Wayfinder won't cut through a Darkness spell. Nothing short of a Daylight spell will do it, though anyone with Darkvision can see through it.

"Oh no," Pinball says with feeling as darkness swallows up the scene in front of them, and as two of their number disappear inside it. "IRORI! This is very imperfect! What do I do?"

The gnome seems to listen for a moment, then nods unhappily and runs forward into the darkness after the other two, snapping her wrist to drop the curative wand into her palm again.

Double move forward, swift to draw wand of CLW. Pinball can't fail the DC 10 Acro check to move at full speed when you can't see.

"Vrothum! Misaki! Speak so I know where you are! I can stand behind you and heal you, at least!"

AC drops to 17, essentially, for 'blinded.'

Vrothum moves in and tastes derro (incidentally, it's not like chicken, more like old shoe) while Pinball works to navigate the dark with wand drawn.

Still Up: Misaki, Phantomblade, Shardra

Silver Crusade

Female Aasimar (Angel-kin, Tian-Min) Chosen One Paladin 8

"Phantom, can you see them in the dark? If not, follow my voice."
Misaki describes the positioning of the derros in front of her, hopefully in enough detail for Phantomblade to know which square to attack, even though he'll still have the 50% miss chance for not being able to see them.

"Whistles, just hang on. The enemies are next to us, and could attack you if you cast Guidance, so just stay on my shoulder and don't do anything, unless I ask for a heal."

With that, she swings her katana at the derro in the middle.

katana to hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
katana damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Liberty's Edge

M 67/67HP, AC:20 (22), T: 16 (18), FF: 14, CMD: 24, F: +8 , R: +12 (14), W: +5, Init +8, Perception +14, CN Male Tengu Lvl 4 Unchained Scout Rogue Lvl 4 Urban Arcane Bloodrager, PwAttack +13/+8 (1d10+16/ 15-20x2), Bloodrage +15/+9 (1d10+20/ 15-20x2)

sorry moves character then kids started acting up.

Round 1

Phantom moves up but can't see. He swings at the durrow he is flanking with. I don't think I get flank because I can't see right?

miss chance high good: 1d100 ⇒ 90

atk: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

dmg: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

With that swing it deflects right off the target.

Round 2

Phantom will swing again

miss chance high good: 1d100 ⇒ 42

atk: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

dmg: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

His swing just goes threw the air and nicks off the cave wall
