Alright, alright, you talked me into it. I was originally going to go with Ifrit, but something changed my mind. Here's the preliminary sheet. Also, I know I asked before, but I just want to make sure that I'm not catching you by surprise, Trench Fighter is cool, right?
I am actually not familiar with Trench Fighter! I will check it out and let you know. Since you're specifically asking about it, is there some component to it that is considered controversial?
Kubular |
I'm not looking to double up on Dex to damage, which is a common RAW abuse with the standard Gunslinger ability at 5th level. The "controversial" part is the flavor, which seems to point to World War Trench warfare, although the one ability it gets isn't really exclusive to Trench warfare. I just wanted to dip 3-4 levels for the extra Feats but more importantly Dex to damage early. The Mysterious Stranger archetype doesn't get it until 9th level and its a little crippling.
Alzhar the Fledgling |
Guns are common in pirate settings, and those themes are all over Golarion. Heck, they've got an entire AP for it.
I think guns on Golarion aren't unheard, they just aren't as common because of their cost to make and the fact they only release, like, 12 of them to the world a year? Perhaps just say you're from the Mana Wastes?
Kubular |
I'm pretty sure its one per day plus five siege weapons per year. But still, it is pretty uncommon.
I'm still thinking about the backstory. Growing up fighting in the mana wastes kind of feels a little weird. Maybe it makes more sense I'll toss it around and see if it fits. I was originally thinking of making her an escaped slave, as an Azata-blooded and a halfling but its up in the air right now.
My build plan was: Mysterious Stranger 1/Trench Fighter 3/ Mysterious Stranger X
DM Orannis |
I would point out that, mechanically, Mysterious Strangers delay their Dex to damage with good reason, and I hardly consider it "crippling".
That said, while the flavor of Trench Fighter is rather annoyingly specific, the mechanical manifestation in the archetype is a good bit more flexible.
So, integrate a rather significant amount (You're taking 3 levels in it, after all) firearm-related military experience into her character organically (don't shoehorn it) and we're good. Remember: every piece of crunch needs to be validated by (sensible!) fluff.

Not quite crippling, shouldn't have said that but it bothered me Nonetheless. Having Charisma as a major ability score is not nearly as mechanically powerful as wisdom.
Naturally Sasha would have military experience or at least experience with firearm warfare/skirmishing. I'm actually being drawn a bit more towards the Mana Wastes, but I'll have a backstory ready soon.
Advanced Firearms???? :D Honestly, I hadn't even considered advanced firearms existing in Golarion at all. I'm very happy and excited to hear it. :
El Dragón |
I have decided that the image of a kobold putting a dragon in a headlock is too hilarious and amazing to pass up. Sorry, bard, but you'll have to be our resident healer.
Meet Koal, a former pit arena fighter and wandering devotee of Irori. Also a tetori monk. Because I'm sure a 3 foot tall lizard man is the best way to grapple enemies.

Can someone remind me which Unchained rules we ended up deciding on?
We will be using Automatic Bonus Progression, Background Skills, and Unchained Summoner is mandatory. Technically the Unchained Rogue is "mandatory" as well, but that's a rule that doesn't really need any enforcement!
Technically we have a tweak to ABP (one entirely in numerical favor of the players, so don't worry about it blindsiding you) but it's only going to come up if we elect to continue the PbP beyond the published Dragon's Demand module.
DM Orannis |
So, when do we get this party started?
My goal is the last week of October. I was hoping to have the book in my hands already, but retrieving it keeps getting stymied by my work schedule and inconvenient happenstance. Despite that, starting sometime the week of the 25th is still the plan.
Once I have the book in-hand, I can provide more detailed setting information and you can all tweak your fluff/crunch around that if you feel the desire or need to do so. Then I'll audit everyone's characters and once any necessary tweaks that brings to light are taken care of we can start rolling dice entering commands into the RNG!
Kubular |
Sorry I'm taking so long I just can't make decisions about my own character. I kind of don't want to make her small after all, but I'm still not sure. :( I think I'll be changing her to Ifrit because it feels so much better for her personality. Questionable morals, unquestionable eagerness.
I've been flipping around Ultimate Campaign's random background generator. Sometimes it's funny, but it got me thinking about how we all know each other. How all of our characters are related to each other.
If you guys want to check it out but don't feel like physically rolling dice they have an automated generator on Pfsrd.

I tried that automated generator and was surprised at how similar the answers were to Adagan's background. I think I'll incorporate some of it into his fluff.
The options I got for party relationships were:
Companion 1 - Hunting companions
Companion 2 - Know each other by reputation only
Companion 3 - Family or close as family—close friends, close/distant relatives, relatives by marriage/adoption
Companion 4 - Contractor and employer
I think the third one could be hilarious considering Adagan's family is Taldan nobility.

Oh my god, that's actually hilarious. I was working on making Sasha's older brother a ladder climbing crime lord. Step X to building his dynasty would obviously be to marry into nobility. Maybe not family yet though, I wanted Thomas (the older brother) to be embroiled in multiple plots at once and sort of be the underdog in his own story. He'd of course come off to most as a terrifying gang boss or wealthy businessman, but the upper crust and older crime lords would look down on him.
But maybe he's courting Adagan's house behind the scenes? Or maybe he's actually in love with Adagan's sister/niece/cousin? I could still be convinced they should already be married but I like the idea of peoples' lives being changed in the course of the story. Gives the GM more ideas for making our characters' lives more miserable interesting.
EDIT: Also, I just decided to go with a standard Ifrit. I couldn't make the halfling thing work in the theater of my head. She's still an excitable ball of energy though!

Hey everyone! Apologize for the radio silence, personal life was pretty busy this weekend.
But! I've got the book in-hand, finally! I'll shortly have an update for you with a capsule gazetteer, a list of NPC's that make for good hooks for your character's involvement in the campaign, a list of non-NPC hooks for the same, as well as some non-spoiler-y tips about what to expect from the campaign in regards to theme, tone, and challenges faced.
Feth, I'll also have some slightly more detailed background info about Belhaim to send you, as it is a story Adagan would likely be familiar with as Taldan nobility. Any one else who starts play with a rank in Knowledge(Nobility) or Lore(Taldor) or roughly equivalent skill will receive the same extra background tidbits. Those of you who start with this knowledge can help with exposition a bit in-character! :D
Also, if any of you have any other questions/concerns that I am better able to answer now that I have the book, please speak up!
Kai Dries |
Sweetness. Looking forward to the expository stuff then.
Also I have a background kind of ready. Still subject to change, but I like how its turning out. Let me know if anything is unclear so I can fix it.
EDIT: The background format is from a poster on the Wizards of the coast forum which is known as the 10 Minute Background. However, I assure you that it never takes me 10 minutes even with this outline.
Also, I'm not sure if the military background feels a bit shoehorned. It sounded pretty organic in my brain, but now I'm unsure. Let me know what you think.
EDIT 2: I am still thinking about where Sasha is originally from. I wanted an industrialized but smallish town or city, or even a big city nearby a Metropolis or something. But I don't feel like Taldor has many of those. I'm thinking about settling for Riddleport, Oppara or Almas and having Thomas taking charge of one of the poorer districts.

Hey hey everybody! Again, sorry for the radio silence, but work has been pretty intense this week and I've been absorbing all the details of the module with my free time.
The campaign info primer I mentioned will likely be up on Sunday, but possibly tonight or tomorrow night if I can catch a second wind.
I apologize this has been slow getting going, but we're almost there. The more I dig deep into the module, the more excited I get about running it.
