"I don't know why it isn't working," replies the succubus, seeming sincere. "I don't think the keys can change... it's never not worked before..."

"You can do that?"

Moar Mappity

"I'm no elf," replies the succubus with an annoyed glance at the kobold. "I didn't build the gates and I don't know what's wrong."

At Jametor's revelation, she frowns. Turning away from the gate, she releases her pendant. "Then I'm done trying for tonight. Maybe tomorrow we can look around for whatever's blocking it."

Moar Mappity

The whole compound is eerily silent... Randall suspects it hasn't been occupied in some time.

Jametor: It's mostly decorative script with prayers to Calistria to protect those who dwell within. Here and there Calistria's name has been smudged, seemingly intentionally.

"No, little one," replies Quilindra with a laugh. "Some of them are barracks, others are meeting areas, still others private quarters. This was an elven outpost, long ago."

Jametor: it seems to be coming from all around the gate, though there's a faintly stronger strand of aura leading off toward the southern guard tower.

By the time Randall is about halfway to the tower, he's become increasingly convinced that no one has been here in a very, very long time. Still, his excellent eyes spot many bits of bone and even a skull lying in the clearings between the buildings.

Suddenly, a wail of anguish pierces the night. "BETRAYER!!!!" screams the voice, seeming to come from all around. Without warning, a pale, wispy image emerges from the ground next to Jametor, swiping at him with a long, sharp claw that seems to draw the very essence from his being.

Can we assume it's the claw that made him afraid, not some sort of, oh, say, sound-based effect?

"They must not like ears-and-arrows!" Xiddik whips out her ocarina and begins to play a jaunty mining tune, though slightly muted thanks to her spell. Its campy melody is utterly out of place here, and the absurdity somewhat lessens the horror of the undead marauders. As she plays with one hand, she places her other hand on Jametor's waist, healing some of his wounds.

I did (it's a single-subject spell). I was asking for the Countersong. Which is next-to-worthless, so, here we are.

Realizing she is really not in the "jaunty" spirit (and that the creature does not appear to be meaningfully talkative, unless Xiddik's just so strong-willed now that she doesn't even notice the mental onslaught [or that perhaps Xiddik is so weak-willed that she's already being controlled, and—Xiddik puts a cliff in front of her train of thought and gets back to business]), the kobold switches to her standard battle tune.

Quick pair of questions. First, can I cast Cure Moderate Wounds, step up, and make my touch attack, or do I have to cast and discharge at the same time? Second, and more pressing, how do Cure spells interact with incorporeals in your game? Pathfinder is quiet on the matter. RAW, they don't, or they at least only have a 50% chance of working like any other spell.

Also, have an Inspire Courage, everyone—+2 to attack and damage rolls.

If she's incorporeal, she just takes half damage from a hit, rather than rolling a miss chance. Unless it's something else at play here.

Frustrated by the poor showing by his bolts of fire, Asht'el opts for a different approach. He flicks his fingers five times, each flick sending a glowing bolt of force at the spectral creature. With his other hand, he draws forth a wand from his belt pouch.

Xiddik continues her Countersong—it can't hurt—and casts a spell just before Jametor and the banshee begin their little dance. She lunges up at the suddenly available banshee, having to hop slightly to reach.

With Fíriel's help, you recognize this as a banshee, the disquiet spirit of an elf that betrayed or was betrayed by her loved ones in life. They are incorporeal undead.

Xiddik: Oh, I missed that part of your question... cure spells specify that "you channel positive energy", and Incorporeal states that channel[ed] energy is the exception to the regular rules for spells, so I'll go with fully effective.

Xiddik, did you want to roll a new Perform check for this round's Countersong? :)

Asht'el's missiles slam into the creature one after another after another, dispersing small bits of mist wherever they strike. Njord manages to slice into it as well, but Xiddik's and Fíriel's attacks are a hair too low and the banshee has only to raise its foot a bit to evade them. ** spoiler omitted **

If I can, I definitely do.

Keep Singing: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (10) + 19 = 29

Also, in that case, I'm going to cast gallant inspiration there. Add 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 to the CMW attack roll last round (sorry, I just took for granted that it was a hit).

AoO Tail Slash: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 14 + 2 = 19

Xiddik steps up and slashes furiously.

Tail Slash/Tail Slash/Tail Slash: 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 14 + 2 + 1 = 281d20 + 14 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 14 + 2 + 1 = 241d20 + 9 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 + 1 = 16 Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9 Halved by pesky incorporeal cheaters. Concealment (if applicable): 1d100 ⇒ 56

Immediate Action Last Round: Fix the bad touch roll. Non-Action: Five-foot step to I10. Free Action: Continue Countersong. Full-Round Action: Full attack.

EDIT: Seriously, RNG, who hurt you?

Moar Mappity

Yeah, with Countersong you roll a Perform check each round.

With gallant inspiration the CMW succeeds.

The banshee ignores Jametor's speech, shrieking in anguish and vengeful rage.

Everyone but Xiddik is up.

Will, Inspired: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 2 = 29

Asht'el reels under the banshee's powerful attack, then steps away from the creature. He snaps his fingers and vanishes!

5-foot step to H9, cast invisibility.

Status: 22/80 hp; Spells left: 7/3/7/3/6/4

Moar Mappity

The banshee follows Asht'el as he tries to escape. You casting defensively?
