Fíriel Goldworthy |
Fíriel quickly checks the others for injuries, wincing as she sees Njord-bear's many wounds. She taps him with the healing wand carefully, hoping he's present enough to know she's trying to help. "Is everyone else alright?" she asks, as she takes quick stock of the enemies' equipment.
Njord Bjornson |
After a victory roar, Were-Njord growls softly but lets Firiel begin mending his wounds with her wand.
DM Feral |
Despite being minimally dressed Tiryin is sporting a number of ornate and likely magical items including a belt of tightly woven spider silk, luminescent slippers, and his long blade (which Randall disarmed him of). Beyond the standard equipment, the guards each have a small satchel with a handful of glowing crossbow bolts inside. The beasts have no equipment.
Xiddik |
Ignoring the others, Xiddik immediately stops singing and hurries over to Tyrian. She grabs his head to hold it steady as her tail blade slowly and methodically rakes across the drow's throat. Her eyes glitter, for one moment utterly devoid of humanity.
Next "round", complete coup de gras. CDG Damage: 2d6 + 4 + 10 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 4 + 10 + 4 + (6, 1) = 35
When that's done, she stoops and hefts the body over her shoulder—grunting from the weight. "We go."
I know we aren't quite as pressed for time now, but Xiddik won't want to wait for folk to search the body. :P
Njord Bjornson |
Were-Njord huffs and relieves Xiddik of her heavy prize slinging it over a furry shoulder with a fraction of the effort.
Randall Quickstep |
Randall grabs up the dead drow's weapon, certain it's worth investigating, and follows.
If you didn't do the CDG, Randall was going to. Let's see:
Unnecessary CDG: 2d4 + 10 + 6d6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 10 + (1, 3, 2, 4, 6, 5) = 35 Unexpected parallel, that. +4 if the inspiration was still in effect...
Xiddik |
I don't see why I wouldn't have—unless Njord grabbed the guy before I could reach him. Also, the inspiration should still be in effect.
Njord Bjornson |
Njord grabbed him after you did your thing.
Randall Quickstep |
Randall spots the shocked youth and looks at the ifrit. "Asht'el, your friend..." and indicates the boy with a tilt of his head as he grabs the fallen blade.
Appraise the sword: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39
Jametor Darksbane |
"Yes, we should go. Randall, perhaps you could and Firiel should go first, don't want anyone on the other side attacking our new companions." Jametor says as he scans the elfgate for any information.
Roll to add to whatever might be needed: 1d20 ⇒ 20
I have spellcraft, arcana, engineering...This may be fluff or whatever. Sense I've looked them over in different spots, wondering if I can decipher something about the gate.
Asht'el |
"I'm sorry you had to see that, Corvakis," Asht'el says gently. "We had to be sure he was dead, so we can get away safely. And now we're going to do that."
Laying a hand on the boy's shoulder and pointedly ignoring Xiddik's look, Asht'el says, "Ready when you all are."
Fíriel Goldworthy |
Fíriel frowns, then nods. "Prickles can stay here... we'll check out the other side. If it comes out too far away for me to be able to stay in contact with Prickles, though... there won't be any way for you to know if it's safe or not."
Randall, shall we?
Jametor Darksbane |
Jametor holds up his hand. "We are going to follow quickly, we know it's not safe here, First Daughter will send others. We have to go through. I just figured if this is guarded by elves, they should not see a goblin and drow first. I am not sure they even know about Njord as a bear. Njord and I can be last in."
Randall Quickstep |
Yes, we shall.
Randall loads his crossbow and holds it in his right hand, the drow's sword in his left. He moves up to the gate, looks over at Firiel and
one...
two...
three...
Jametor Darksbane |
As Randall and Firiel prepare to go through the gate, Jametor speaks in Goblin to Ruxi, "Little one, go with Firiel, she will guard you, please do not act aggressively to anyone you see when you step through that gate. Please stay by Firiel's side. It will be alright."
He then switches to Draconic, "Please follow them Xiddik, be prepared, the guards on the other side may recognize you more quickly than the halflings. Thank you for guiding and defending us."
Switching to Undercommon he says, "Please follow and stay with Ash'tel, the fiery one. He will protect you. Please do not act aggressively to anyone on the other side, unless he does." As Jametor speaks to Ruxi and Corvakis, he points to the person he references, just to make sure the new additions know what to expect.
"Xiddik, please follow Randall and Firiel, Ash, please take Corvakis with you and follow Xiddik." He turns to Njord, "You want to go last or want me to go last, great defender of the pack?" he asks.
DM Feral |
Ruxi is rather indifferent about the violence and happily tags along through the portal.
Ruxi clutches her over-sized head with both of her hands in an attempt to keep it from spinning.
Despite Asht's reassurance, Corvakis continues to stare at his uncle's corpse.
"I hated him. He tormented me every chance he got but I'm still sorry he had to die. Is something wrong with me?" he asks in a small voice.
Hearing his native language seems to get his attention and the boy nods in understanding at Jametor's instructions.
Njord Bjornson |
Were-Njord grunts and nods, gesturing for the elf to pass before him.
Fíriel Goldworthy |
Fíriel frowns, motioning a query to Randall. Tricked again... she said the gate would lead us out, not deeper in. I guess we'd better have a look around.
"Ruxi, can you sneak along very quietly behind me?" she asks, turning to the goblin.
Jametor Darksbane |
Jametor steps through the gate following the others, looking behind him to watch the bear follow.
On the other side, he turns and examines the gate again. "Same level probably, but not surface, as you can tell. Xiddik, any idea where we might be?" Jametor says in his normal matter of fact voice.
Xiddik |
Haven't leveled up yet but I'm going with Bard this time.
Xiddik follows the halflings and looks around, frowning.
Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
Knowledge (geography) (favored terrain): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Asht'el |
”That’s something right with you, Covakis,” Asht’el tells the boy. ”He wouldn’t have felt a thing at seeing you killed, but you do feel it. It’s what makes you different, and it’s how those of us from the surface world are also. Even if we hate someone, death is hardly something to wish for and certainly nothing to be glad about. Now let’s get away from this place.”
He takes Covakis by the hand and steps through the gate.
DM Oladon |
Njord Bjornson |
Were-Njord sniffs around, looking for signs of creatures nearby.
Can we assume Firiel keeps infernal healing rolling on Njord? He's down quite a bit still.
Also, what did Xiddik want Tiryin's body for?
DM Oladon |
Were-Njord can tell that no living things have visited this chamber in many years... yet a vaguely familiar smell tickles his nostrils from somewhere nearby.
Njord Bjornson |
Should probably wait for our slackbold.
DM Oladon |
Corvakis frowns in thought at Asht'el's words, but takes the Ifrit's hands and follows him through the gate. As he gazes around at the cavern on the other side, he finally replies. "It's... so different from everything I've ever been taught."
Ruxi simply nods at Fíriel's question, glancing over at the others with a quick "Shh!"
Randall Quickstep |
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36
Sneaking and peeking. Randall takes off his cloak of resistance +2 and considers it for a moment before he stuffs it into his pack. Handing it to Ruxi, he whispers, "Take care of this for me, OK? It will protect you a little." With that, he withdraws his elven cloak and dons it.
Stealth: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (14) + 27 = 41
Perception: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (10) + 19 = 29 +10 for traps
DM Oladon |
Ruxi nods her head quickly up and down as she fastens the clasp around her neck.
Asht'el |
Inspired by Randall's thoughtfulness, Asht'el slips off his small backpack and opens it, pulling out a cloak that he has not yet had a chance to sell. He rolls the top a bit so if will fit Covakis without dragging on the ground and settles it on the boy's shoulders. "This will keep you a little safer, especially if we run into any surprises. How's Keno doing, by the way? Curious beast that he is, he's probably having a fine time adventuring."
Still have my +1 cloak of resistance, will put it on Covakis.
DM Oladon |
Covakis' face lightens at the mention of his companion. "She's fine... she wants me to let her out, but I think she's better off hidden, at least until we're... safe."
Njord Bjornson |
Let me know when we've been exploring for ~1 hour. That's when bar form wears off.
Asht'el |
For the record, I went back to figure out exactly what the kid's name is, since Feral and I have spelled it a couple of different ways. According to Feral's first posts about him, the name is Covakis. No sense in him wandering around in mysterious ancient tunnels with a bunch of strangers and having us call him by the wrong name, eh?
Njord Bjornson |
Heh. I was wondering that myself.
Randall Quickstep |
Randall shares his observations with Firiel via sign language.
After it appears that there is nothing particularly close, he waves Ruxi closer. Whispering, he shows her some basic signs so they can communicate silently. I'm thinking directions, mostly - left, right, back, forward. Open to other suggestions.
It's pretty obvious to Firiel that he's planning to protect the little goblin as much as she is.
Fíriel Goldworthy |
Fíriel smiles at Randall as she sees his plan, and nods encouragingly to the goblin when Ruxi looks to her for reassurance. Shall we proceed? she asks, signaling toward the archway.
Randall Quickstep |
He nods, checks to make sure that Ruxi is on board, and starts forward signalling, "Ladies on the left, Randall on the right." *wink*
The remodel continues apace. Roll for me if necessary - I'll check when I can, but I anticipate limited time online again today.
