Bullseye Brynn |
"Well, back to work."
Brynn returns to the room they were in and looks around for anything else of interest.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Bethany Carpenter |
"Right. Back too it. Grilnik want to go first to find pits?" as this leaves her mouth she pauses for a moment "Anything around that we could roll in front of us, something heavy? I guess it would be odd for there to be many more pits though the did live here and all. Never mind."
Bethany goes back to keeping her eyes open for traps despite now thinking there will be less.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Grilnik Urist |
"Har har, very funny."
Grilnik continues jotting down the remaining things after the last servant vacates the premises.
"Shall we go up and get our trip upstairs over with? I'd like to go downstairs last."
Vors Orcblood |
Vors looks around. "We may have swept all or most of this floor. I too am eager to see what else is upstairs."
DM Nex |
After some searching around the main floor, you are not able to find anything else of interest. Everything seems to be ready and tagged for the auction.
Now the decision, up or down?
I am going on a vacation. I am not brining my computer, but will have my ipad. I might be able to post, but it might be a bit infrequent. Sorry for any delay.
Decide on up or down, and I will make the move for everyone
Grilnik Urist |
we have 2 out of 4 for up :P
Also, have a nice vacation ^_^
Bullseye Brynn |
Yeah, up's fine.
Brynn follows the others up the stairs, sure to aim her detect magic spell everywhere we go...
Vors Orcblood |
Vors takes the lead again, examining the stairwell and disabling traps as he goes.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Bethany Carpenter |
"Up we go. Let me know if you see something to smash... or... count."
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
I was going to say. "Despite her dismissive tone Bethany is keeping a sharp eye." but I guess I wont say that.
Grilnik Urist |
"Hopefully we won't find anything in need of smashing, but thanks for the offer."
Perception (non-stonework): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Grilnik proceeds up the stairs, with the others, more carefully than he entered the mansion.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn follows the others up the stairs...
DM Nex |
As you move up the stairs into the next room you exit onto what looks like a library. This lushly furnished library features three tall bookcases running north to south down the center of the chamber and another bookcase of iron in the northeast corner. A stuffed grizzly bear towers in the northwest corner, it's claws and fangs bared aggressively. To the east wall features sixteen paintings of various planets in gilded frames. A ladder in the west side of the ceiling leads up to a trap door.
As you carefully head up the stairs and look around this new room Vors and Grilnik's eyes hone in on the iron bookshelf. With what looks like the best books. Both notice a small barb that would hit anyone who touches the door itself.
Vors is able to stop for a second and find the spring mechanism, and with a small metal tool from his pouch he is able to jam the spring ad release the barb.
From the look at the barb it looks like it is covered in a strange purple poison. You are able to save the poison covered needle for later.
All of these books look to contains some value, but inside the iron cage are the most valuable of his collection. 3 of which are giving off strange magics.

Moved tokens in Roll20
There seems to be nothing else in this room. There are doors to the right and left. As well as the ladder up to what looks like an observatory.
Bullseye Brynn |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Not rolling the middle check because I can't pass it.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Brynn points out the three magical books. "These three here are all magical. Quite powerful, by the look of their auras. Unfortunately, I can't discern their purpose."
Grilnik Urist |
Magic books? Brynn does magic, doesn't she?
Grilnik looks back and forth between the iron bookshelf and Brynn.
"Hey Brynn, ya think you could gain any benefit from... inspecting those books carefully? Could the magic on the books be dangerous to someone reading them?"
Grilnik asks while stroking his beard.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn smiles. She tests the cage to see if she can get at the books.
Is the cage locked?
Vors Orcblood |
Vors won't roll for the books: there's no way he could make those checks.
The half-orc takes a small handkerchief from his pocket and carefully wraps the poisoned needle within.
Then Vors waits over by the left door while Brynn continues logging in all the findings.
Bullseye Brynn |
"Locked. Could you try to get in please, Vors?"
While she waits she reads the spines.
Vors Orcblood |
Vors blinks and walks over to the metal cabinet to begin breaking the seal.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
After working on it for several minutes, the half-orc shakes his head. "Nah! Sorry, can't figure out how to break that seal."
Bethany Carpenter |
Not eve trying on any of those checks. Not really Bethany's thing.
Bethany briefly gets excited when magic is mentioned but immediately is less excited when the next word is books.
Bullseye Brynn |
Unable to get at the books, Brynn shrugs. "Worth a shot."
Ugh! Worthless!
When she's done cataloging the library, Brynn gestures at the right door. "Shall we?"
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik shrugs. "Anyone think the front door key might work?" Retrieving the steel key from his belt pouch, Grilnik tries it on the iron bookshelf and then the door next to Brynn.
Vors Orcblood |
Vors sighs, almost guessing the response, but asks it anyway.
"If you wish, I think I can open that cabinet but it might take me some time. Do you still wish me to open it?" The half-orc asks.
Grilnik Urist |
If it's a simple lock, it's only 1 round per attempt, or 2 minutes for take 20...
Grilnik frowns as he puts away the keyring that has the steel key.
"Yes please. This key doesn't seem much use beyond opening the front door. Also, if the locks prove too difficult, I suppose that we could always use something more direct."
Grilnik raises his hammer as he turns to Bethany. "Right Beth?"
Bullseye Brynn |
"That would lovely, Vors," Brynn replies sweetly.
DM Nex |
Vors sits down in front of the metal shelves. Slowly taking in the magical seal. After some trial and error he slowly finds where the magic is coming from, a small sensor embedded into the metal. Requiring more art than tehnical prowess, he eventually gets it open.
Revealing the various books. And the 3 magical books.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn flicks through the magical books to see if there's anything she could learn from them before they get sold in the auction.
Bethany Carpenter |
Beth smiles "There is aways a way i guess." She is only a little disappointed when the lock is worked out. "So...... moving on?"
Vors Orcblood |
"Sorry Bethany", smiles Vors as he hands the magical books to Brynn. "I'm sure Big Brother was faster, but my way looks less like vandalism."
Picking himself off the floor, the half-orc adds, "Besides that hot baroness doesn't look like she wanted anything intentionally damaged."
Grilnik Urist |
"Your way looks less like vandalism? Does that mean it looks something like vandalism?"
Grilnik asks, curious if Vors' thieves' tools leave any marks.
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik is happy with whichever advances the story faster.
Probably left since we have 1 vote already :P
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn follows the others down the hall, detecting magic as she goes.
DM Nex |
You open up the door to the left.
The bedchamber is richly appointed, with 3 armories and three tall wardrobes, a canopied bed with a large locked chest at it's foot, a writing desk and chair, elaborate marble tub, and a thick bearskin rug.
As soon as the first person takes a step into the room a deep growl comes from the direction of the rug.
The sound is the growl of a grizzly bear
Though nothing else seems to happen. No movement is seen.
Brynn: Your detect magic picks up the entire room. The whole room seems to be radiating moderate conjuration magic.
Bethany Carpenter |
Gripping her hammer Bethany moves to step in but stops.
"So.. any pits? Grilnik, you go first." If your looking you can see she finds herself very amusing.
Pereption: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Bullseye Brynn |
"Wait!" Brynn exclaims. "This whole room's radiating conjuration magic..."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
She shares what she knows with everyone.
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik slowly draws his longhammer as he comments on the greeting the party receives from the direction of the rug.
"Ya know, I've traveled around a lot of places, but I've never seen a rug growl before, do any of you know of a beast flat enough to hide under...?"
Bethany Carpenter |
"One of those things that can look like other things? Heard a story about a biting chest. Not sure what they are called though. Should I just hit it?"
Vors Orcblood |
"Wait!" Brynn exclaims. "This whole room's radiating conjuration magic..."
Vors stops shortly after hearing the growl.
"Well? What do we do?" the half-orc asks.Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik speaks as he eyes the rug carefully, trying to see if he can spot what made the sound.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
"I don't know of things that growl that can be reasoned with, and I think Beth has the right idea. I think we find what's growling and we hit it until it doesn't growl anymore. Since I found the pit trap, why don't you go first this time? Beth?"
DM Nex |
Brynn's detect magic seems to come from the whole room, but mostly from the rug itself. Though she is unsure of the exact nature of the magic.
As everyone feezes and waits. Nothing seems to happen.
From the door frame everyone gets a good look at the room though. There is the chest in the room. You can see what looks like a ring of keys sitting on the desk drawer. On the writing desk is what looks like a fancy ring of some kind. You can also just see what looks like a scrap of paper sitting on the nightstand.
The paper seems to be giving off a very dim transmutation magical energy. But it is vey faint in comparison to the conjuration magic of the room itself.
You are all scoobydo-ing at the door. Anyone going in?
Vors Orcblood |
Vor slowly sheaths his rapier in the doorframe.
"Okay", breathed the half-orc. "This will probably be stupid whether his works or not, so.."
At that, the roguish cleric jumps on the bear skin rug and attempts to grapple it.
Grapple: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Bethany Carpenter |
Watching the half-orcs attempt to grapple Bethany quickly steps into the room and readies Big Brother high above her head. If the rug... fights back?... she will bring it down. Even as she raises the hammer a thought nags at her.
Can you smash something that is flat.
Big Brother: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Crap
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2) + 3 = 7
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn watches from the doorway...
DM Nex |
With much fanfair the half orc charges out at the rug, followed by Bethany with a swing from her hammer.
The half orc slips a bit and kinda just falls on the rug. The hammer comes down on the rug, but not hear its head at all.
There is a quiet pause.. Nothing happens.
Another beat.. Nothing
The two on the rug realize nothing is likely to happen from their actions.. At least yet..
Vors Orcblood |
Vors takes this opportunity to take the bear rug's arms and legs and tie them together, then slide the bundled rug under a nearby chair.
The half-orc looks up to tiny barbarian and says, "Thanks for the assist, Bethany."
Bethany Carpenter |
Slightly embarassed Bethany looks back at the others.
"Well... we didn't fall in a pit at least."
Grilnik Urist |
Stunned by Vors going in first, Grilnik follows Beth and Vors in to see Vors tie the rug up and stuff it under a chair.
"...yes. None of us were hurt, and that's what's important."
Grilnik then prods the tied up rug a couple of times, using his Longhammer so that he doesn't need to get too close.
Looking at the floor where the rug was, he asks "Nothing was under the rug, then?"
