Bethany Carpenter |
Bethany shutters and continues to laugh for a moment before the head of her hammer hits the ground and she slumps onto it for support panting.
"sss... <deep breath> Sorry about that. Sometimes I just get a little worked up. Whew, it takes a bit out of me."
Grilnik Urist |
"Hmmm, I wonder..." Grilnik touches Bethany's shoulder, and his hand glows as her fatigue vanishes. Calming Touch
"How do you feel now, Beth?"
"Oh, and we'll want a blessing from Kurgess for those bruises from that pit."
Grilnik lifts up his wooden holy symbol and healing light pours out from it in all directions, healing everyone.
Channel Energy (Heal living): 1d6 ⇒ 3 everyone heals 3 lethal and 3 nonlethal damage, too bad no one has both for double healing xD
Bethany Carpenter |
She flinches a bit from the touch until his hand connects and she straightens with a sigh.
"That is much better. I have to admit, as fun as it is when that happens it makes me uncomfortable. Almost like I am someone else who finds violence very, well, funny I guess."
After the wave of energy washes over her she smiles a real smile.
"It's a tool though, like my hammer."
Grilnik Urist |
"It's good to have many tools on your belt."
Grilnik turns towards the hallway "Shall we see what's so important that we had to travel over acid, through a trap room, past an annoying metronome, and who knows what else?"
Grilnik starts moving towards the next door, eye out for more traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 It's all/mostly iron, right?
...or are we back to stone halls? :D
Grilnik Urist |
Beth still has the key, huh? xD
Bethany Carpenter |
"Oh.. the key. Around here I guess."
She heads to the door around the corner.
"Shall I just open in it?"
As she says this she puts the key in the lock but does not turn until someone says so.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn eyes the door warily from the back of the line.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 12
"Go ahead, Bethany," Brynn encourages. "We didn't come this far just to turn back."
Bethany Carpenter |
And that is all the encouragement she needs to open and step in and to the side if possible.
DM Nex |
As the heavy door opens up you can see into this room.
An area along the south wall is enclosed in a cage of thick iron bars that extend from the floor to ceiling. Within the enclosure sit seven black iron chests. To the north, the stone wall has collapsed, revealing a rough-hewn tunnel.
Standing near the tunnel is a blue skinned humanoid looking creature. It seems to have a long tongue. It turns toward Bethany with a snear.
Please move characters to where you want them in Roll20.
Bethany: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Bethany Carpenter |
Not sure if Bethany can see w/o dark vision or a torch. Depends if lights are following her I guess.
Bethany, seeing the blue creature, rushes into the room hoping to scare it into not putting up a fight.
"Hey you. Hold it right there or your gonna get smashed."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
DM Nex |
I guess you are right, even if the light source is right behind you, you would not see that far into the room. Going to move to its surprise round. I will put you back at the entrance.
You hear a small shuffling sound. Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
I am going to give everyone a chance to move into the room and do a perception check. It is probably going to get a free strike on someone, but then we will use the initiative order I have already rolled. So everyone move in like you would and give me a perception check.
Bethany Carpenter |
re-con for vision
Although dark Bethany steps into the room, hammer ready, so as not to be in the way of the others. A giggle escapes her lips at the thought they are in danger.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn moves into the room at the back of the group, staying near the door with her bow in hand.
Placed on map.
Percaption to listen into the darkness: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Grilnik Urist |
I like how Grilnik is last, he'd totally get distracted by the chests behind bars xD
Grilnik steps into the room right after Bethany and looks around the dark room.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 perfect roll, get! lol
He notices the black chests quickly and stops looking around for other things.
Vors Orcblood |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 WOW!
It is at this exact moment that Vors checks his fingernails for dirty under the cuticles.
Verik Skintail |
Verik sniffs the air Reminder I automatically detect enemies within 30ft if me unless wind is effecting it(or there is an obvious door/wall in the way) Verik smells something.. he isn't sure what though... Hold on... There's something in here... he makes sure his dancing lights illuminated the room fully, Willing each of the four spheres to follow each of the other party members(acting as torches for each of them)
Bethany Carpenter |
Her inner anger coming out in its usual uncomfortable manner Bethany starts to giggle. Still somewhat in control she holds her position letting the creature come to them. Her hammer gripped tight, head behind her.
Readied Earthbreaker: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 6) + 5 = 15
Can only move or attack in surprise so activating rage and readying action.
Vors Orcblood |
Vors walks over to Bethany and offers the barbarian a high five.
"Nice!" The half-orc exclaimed.
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik is startled by the hammer swing, but then nods approvingly after he realizes what just happened. "Nice swing, Beth." Grilnik takes a closer look at the remains of the creature. loot the bodies! lol
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
After inspecting the remains Grilnik looks around the bars and chests to see if there's anything odd nearby. I'm assuming that if there was an obvious button or lever, our glorious leader GM Nex would have mentioned it already xD
Perception (stonework?): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Bullseye Brynn |
"Wow. Well done, Bethany!" Brynn exclaims.
Bethany Carpenter |
Bethany's too big grin turns into a more natural smile and her eyes get less wild as the party congratulates her. Winded by happy she responds.
"Thanks... it's odd that I get a little out of control but it's effective. Anyone know what this thing is, well, was?"
DM Nex |
The creature was covered in old rags, they look like they might have been a very old uniform of some kind, but ragged and faded with time.
As you all look around the room you find 2 slots in the floor, one on either side of the large cage. There does not seem to be any other obvious ways to get access to these chests.
To the north you see a strange rocky passageway, if you look down it, you can see a pair of low barricades made of timbers and rocks partially blocking the passageway, which opens into a larger cave beyond.
Verik Skintail |
Verik looks at the corpse and huffs. Appears it may have been a ghouls of some kind... Before it's head was flattened that is... he recasts his dancing lights and wills one of the spheres follow Bethany, letting her see more effectively.
Verik Skintail |
know(Religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Verik snorts. Yup... Definitely a Ghoul. We best be careful about them there may be more. Don't let them claw you, or you'll be paralyzed.
Bethany Carpenter |
"Well at least Big Brother seems effective at stopping them."
She look at the chest and shrugs pretty sure she is not going to work that out and moves towards the passage on the other side of the room.
"I will keep an eye over here, make sure nothing tries to sneak up on us."
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik looks up from one of the two slots in the ground with a gleam of greed in his eye "Hey, I found two holes on either side of these bars, and I'd be willing to bet they're for opening 'em up. There wasn't another key to go with the rusty iron one, was there?"
Bullseye Brynn |
Hearing that we're in need of some more keys, Brynn spends her time wandering the room, looking for keys, weird compact objects, and anything else out of the ordinary.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 19
DM Nex |
The room is pretty barren. It looks like it might have been protected. Very little entered this room.
The hole to the north looks pretty decent. The loose dirty around the hole is still a bit wet and fresh.
The two slots on either side of the cage seem very thin, about 2 cm long, but only 3 mm wide. Almost like a blade could be fit inside.
Grilnik Urist |
"Hey I just had a thought. Those daggers have a notch, right? And there were two..." Grilnik looks to Brynn and then to Vors.
Bethany Carpenter |
Bethany turns aways form the opening for a moment smiling at them possible finding the solution.
"Your very creative."
Bullseye Brynn |
MY dagger? But it's mine! Well, crap!
Brynn looks thoughtful. "Of course," Brynn remarks. "Those strange notches on the blade..."
She draws the mithral dagger from her belt and passes it to Grilnik, then she backs up, wary of traps.
"Experiment at your leisure."
Grilnik Urist |
"Thank you" Grilnik replies while accepting the dagger. He then merrily trots over to the far side of the cage and attempts to put the mithral dagger into the slot.
does it turn without anything in the other slot? xD
Grilnik Urist |
"It goes in, but it's too hard to turn... Hey Vors, try the other notched dagger over there" Grilnik points in the general direction of the other slot.
Bethany Carpenter |
Nuclear launch key style lock? Love it.
DM Nex |
No magic is detected anywhere in this chamber.
As Vors turns the key in the other slot, both daggers click and can be turned. As it turns all the bars start to drop down into the ground. Exposing all the chests in front of you. The daggers seem to be locked in place while the bars are down.
If you remove the daggers the bars go back up
In front of you you see seven chests. Each of which seem to have locks on them.

Grilnik Urist |
"HAH! We got the treasure!" Grilnik excitedly rushes to the nearest chest, then he tries and fails to pull it open.
He frowns momentarily.
"Hey Beth, think that rusty key will work? Or, failing that, do any of you know how to pick a lock?"
Bethany Carpenter |
Bethany casts a last look at the opening. I guess an attack would have come by now.
"Here, give it a go. No real need for me to carry it anyway."
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn watches the bars move warily. She keeps her distance and alert.
Verik Skintail |
Verik examines the boxes Curiously. Hmm... Okay... If each if these boxes contain treasure we can take them and open them in town Taking 20 on the checks and see what's inside there... Just have to test their weight...
Grilnik Urist |
20 on what checks? Disable Device? Perception? Dragging treasure into town? Actually, I don't think that last one needs a check... just some mining tools xD
Grilnik accepts the key back from Bethany, and tries it on each of the treasure chest locks.
DM Nex |
The key does not even fit into these locks, definitally requires some other type of key.
spoiler: These keys are just long gone
You are not in danger, feel free to spend some quality time down here to unlock the chests. Taking 20 on each one. Might take awhile, but you can all get to know eachother.. if you do:
While you are working on these various chests
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn does't voice complaint either way, but she's fine with that. Depends on what the others decide.
