The new captain to the gathering continues to enjoy the food, drink, and smoke. He smirks back at his first mate's words, offering a grunt in return. He takes in the discussion of the issues, smirking slightly with inner laughter as the discussion gets heated at times.

Tucking in greedily, Thurden savors his first few bites before really getting down to business. He attacks his plate with a precise ferocity. His napkin is quickly spotted with stains but his beard remains clean. The dwarf again prowls his neighbors plates with his eye, hoping their appetites are a bit smaller than his own.

Thurden feels a bit out of his depth with the conversation. Deferring to his captain, Reijo, and up to Noro on all fronts. If pressed, he'll share his opinion on each topic.

On the first issue 'If we get a full share, I reckon I'll get a bigger budget for the galley. I'm for it.'

On the second issue 'Statues in the harbor? Sounds like a whole lot of wasted money and effort. Just gonna give enemies something to shoot at.'

On the third issue 'Let it lie first come, first serve. Might be a bit of fun racing to scoop up a nice bit of treasure.' Thurden chuckles to himself, lost in a memory for a moment.

On the fourth issue 'I got no love for the devil-lovers. Put me in chains more than once. Could all be a ruse, could all be real. I'd rather look into it and it be lies than to not and it be truth.'

Reijo tells his first mate to, "Becalm yerself." Glancing towards his dwarven friend's stout waist, "It's not like yer starvin', ya know."

The new captain remains on the quiet side, knowing he's the new guy in port. Don't want to rock the boat and all... and besides, Noro's speaks for the group.

If pressed, he will speak his mind.

Concerning the first issue, if it involves more money for him, "I'm all for it."

Concerning the second, "Hmpf. Ain't nobody gonna see the bloody statues but those of us who already know who the Hurricane King is."

The third, depending on the status of relations between Sorrinash and Raffles, Reijo might suggest a compromise. "Why don't ye both parlay a joint venture, maybe whoever gets to it first earns the blade?"

The fourth, this one concerns him more seriously. "Ye can't tell what the bloody devil-worshippers are up to, save that they're up ta no good. Best be safe rather than sorry, eh?"

Privately, when there is a moment for it, he may whisper to Noro, "If ye knows this Harrigan, perhaps yer best qualified ta track'im down. Get the truth out of'im." Before Noro can begin to contemplate the ways Reijo has in mind to get the truth out of Harrigan, he adds, "I'm in, if ye wants ta go investigatin'."

I'm assuming we do, but I'm not sure if us new guys earn anything from the Island of Empty Eyes?

Noro did not get the response that she expected from her thoughts about Cheliax. but she says nothing about that. perhaps it has not fully sunk in yet.

though she did try and gauge the reactions to see if any here are possibly secretly aligned with Harrigan.

on the issues, Noro feels confident that there are enough votes to pass issue #1, and speaking with those in favor is a waste of time.

looking to sunny, Sunny, see about shmoozing Kerdak Bonefist, maybe entice him to our side regarding the shares. Noro whispers to Sunny.

regrading issue #2, the spending of those funds is a waste, but also, if we receive full shares from the Sargava tithes, it only makes us look more greedy. Noro will abstain from that vote unless her vote is an absolute must. If pressed, she will argue that the funds will be better spent bolstering defenses from a Cheliax attack that she knows is coming.

on issue #3, Noro is in favor of this course. Jolis Raffles failed, thats on him, live and learn. Noro will go with Sunny's suggestions here.

Issue #4 is definitely something that needs to be addressed. Noro will in fact speak privately with Tessa on this matter. It is also possible that such a traitor will be present here at the council. to publicy annouce and vote on the funding to root out such a traitor could puch them further into hiding or worse.

Noro's suggestion to Tessa is to actually approve the statue funding as a front to actually fund the investigations. this will require that either Tessa or Noro take charge of these funds to ensure the investigations remain secret.

(Ok, I’m going to get us moving ahead)

As the night moves on, it comes time to take votes. There is no such thing as a secret ballot. The votes are taken aloud and the votes that are too close to call are taken by show of hands.

Kerdak calls for a vote on the first issue, increased shares for your island. The voice vote is close but he calls it against you. When he does so Tessa speaks up, I think it should go to hands, I heard it the other way.
Kerdak replies with a quick Fine, hands... Tessa happily notes that the vote to increase you to full shares has passed by two.

Kerdak’s grumpiness from the previous vote is quickly assuaged as the vote to build statues in his honor is easily passed. (Perhaps opening up the possibility of implementing Noro’s idea).

On the issue of salvage, it seems that reconciliation is unlikely between Avimar and Jolis. Though by a slim margin the council votes to give Avimar rights of salvage.

The council votes to set some money aside for an investigation into the Cheliax problem. The vote passed narrowly and only by your votes. This sours Kerdak’s mood a little but he still seems in good spirits.

(Is there anyone you wish to talk to before the end of the night?)

She take a carafe and pours a green liquid into small silver cups. This will take the edge off any hangovers you are having. There is something I want to discus. Pausing for a second to allow you to make yourselves compfortable on the sofas and pillows.

If we are going to syphon off the statue money, I know where it needs to go. If Cheliax invades we will need a fleet. Whether mercenary or loyal to our cause. We will need more ships. I think I can help with the moving of funds but right now I’m being watch pretty closely. If I start recruiting a flotilla, it will be noticed by our “King”.

Noro thinks for a moment, I starting point would be to recruit from a pool of sailors that also are enemies of chelaix. the enemy of my enemy kind of thing.

our other option is press ganging, and we all here know how well that usually goes.

when it comes to battle, tactics will win the day. Cheliax has a big weakness in its reliance in summoned outsiders and slaves. perhaps that is a something we can exploit.

exactly my point Thurden. Anyway, some scouting operations may be in order. Dimitrious is most likely our best choice for that.

Noro thinks a bit, I also suggest we look to some of the other Free Captains. see what they have to offer, but be careful, we still have a spy in our midst. that is where Commodore Reijo comes in. check the other ports and strongholds in the shackles, see what you can dig up.

Reijo spits at the mention of press ganging more recruits. "Aye," he concurs with Thurden's assessment, bad memories coming back to his own mind.

And then his paranoid mind thinks about his new crew in light of their recently being sorta press ganged...

"Aye," Reijo replies to Noro's latter idea. Giving a suspicious glance at Dimitrious, "Creepy's the mate fer scoutin' alright."

He nods to both his new title and to Noro's additional plans, "Aye, I could check in with me connections around the Shackles. See if any other brave mates be interested in plunderin' the devil-beriddled lot of them seafarin' Chelaxians."

Suny's statement rings true with Reijo. "Yer a genius, Saucy. Mayhaps I can find someone with just the right skill set..."

While in Port Peril, Reijo will check back at the Rotting Mermaid to find possible old friends or acquaintances, or to find out their possible current whereabouts. He'll offer some the opportunity to join the fleet as captains of their own ships. Others, he'll invite as ranking crew members, to help keep an eye on his own Chelaxian crew. While Thurden's found some loyal to Reijo, he's too paranoid to trust new people alone on the Blood Vengeance. He's also interested in finding a new recruit who can effectively deal with summoned devils...

The drink offered by Tessa is a little sour and then a little bitter, but shortly after consuming some, any lingering effects of the excesses of the previous night are banished away.

Tessa seems prepared for your questions and offers seemingly well though out responses, it is clear that she holds onto her position by more than just charm or force. I would expect Cheliax to attack with an overwhelming force. If they mean to do this, then they mean to do it. I would not want to face them with less than 60 ships. There are plenty of enemies of Cheliax in these parts, but not all of them would want to fight, unless they felt the battle was assured. One does not stay a pirate long by picking the hardest fights, and it will be a hard one. The key will be in convincing Cheliax’s enemies to fight her.

As for where to send a lookabout, a spy, I would suggest the port city of Corentyn, also known as Port Indominable. It is a center of power for Cheliax’s western fleets. If big movements have been made, someone there knows about.

Before leaving Tessa hands Suny a note,

Note:
I know what you have been looking for and I think I know how to acquire it. It won’t be cheap though so we will have to use some of our syphoned funds to get it, but I’ll work on it. - Tessa

Reijo finds the Rotting Mermaid as busy as usual, but that doesn’t stop the free drinks from coming out quick. Halfway into your first beer you spot a couple of old acquaintances, friends really. Jim Reed and Havanaw Jack, both were troublemakers back in the day and more than once had been accompanied by Reijo on their “endeavors”. They seem to have done pretty decent for themselves lately judging by their attire and copious amount of jewelry. Looking up they spot you and motion for you to bring your glass over.

At Tess's

"Bein' under the hull an' all regardin' payment," Reijo adds to Tessa's earlier comment, "That should help ta keep our plans secret from any spies in the king's court."

Between Tess's and the Rotting Mermaid

The Blood Vengeance at some point will be deemed missing in action by Cheliax. Reijo privately asks Thurden to help him review the ship's recent logs in order to get an idea of what it's orders were, who its former captain was reporting to, and other information he'd need to know. Just in case they find it opportune at some point to pretend to be that Chelaxian ship.

The Rotting Mermaid

"Oi mateys." Reijo greets his old companions with a characteristically gruff smile. He takes some time to catch up with news and what they've been up to (or what they're willing to tell of it). Offering to cover their drinks, he eventually asks them a question.

"So. Ye boys interested in a first rate job?"

He smiles at them enigmatically...

Pirate Speak:
"Under the hull" = secret.

"First rate" refers to first rate warships, or the greatest classification of warships in size and firepower. A first rate job would imply a job of greatest import... and greatest rewards.

Confirm what Tess said about Port Indominable:

Suny unhugs Dim and skips off to carry put Captain Noro's bidding.

Offering her fellow Captains a jaunty wave over a tanned shoulder as she does so.

Port Indomitable, another name for Corentyn is located about 1200 miles to the north. It lies on the strait that leads to the inner sea. It’s position is strategic from both an economic and political standpoint.

Happy to see his old companion, Havanaw smiles a wide grin. A good number of his teeth have been replaced with gold and ivory. First Rate ehh, is the plunder First Rate or just the danger? Wait don’t answer, I’ll take it if you cover my tab, it goes back a couple weeks. Plus full shares of whatever plunder we gain.

Jim just raises an eyebrow. You get the feeling if Havanaw and you are joining up, he would not want to miss it. Jim and Havanaw will join up with their two ships, both ships are solidly Third Rate ships of the line, but both are well appointed with few expenses spared. A faint distortion in the air around them is recognizable as the effect of multiple stacked abjurations.

Thurden finds the Kaskkari willing to budge a bit more than one would expect. The discerning eye of a cook is enough to catch that not all the beans are vanilla, in fact many of them are Varisian Snout. The beans appear similar visually but lack any real flavor. In large quantities they can cause mild indigestion.

review of the logs of the Blood Vengence:
The logs a quite thorough covering every speed change, course change, fix, running fix, weather, calculated set and drift etc. There is little in the way of the ship’s tasking written into the log, certain pages seem to be missing and the writing abruptly changes hand about 3 weeks ago. While port information seems redacted, the better mariners among you can trace out the route the ship has taken leading back from where you encountered her back to Corentyn. Before that too many pages are missing to make an accurate picture.

Well unless we are headed to Corentyn, I am off to procur a scroll and head off to and discover what I can in Port Indomitable

Suny makes sure her crew aren't too far gone into the port's buisnesses. Taking a couple of her better gals aside with a whisper and indication of keeping a watchful eye on other ship's crew members.

She makes her way about her ship first checking that things are being kept up to scratch, then quickly skipping off to atend any buisness left ashore before the various vessels put to sea again.

What are people looking at for shine to spend currently?

To Dim, get what you need, we leave for Corentyn as soon as you return. Noro then sends a message to Suny about the plan as well as Reijo and his crew.

Reijo smirks and accepts the deal with a gruff hand shake. He allows his reputation to reduce both his mates' tabs, though he's sure to pay much of the tabs in gold to the barkeep after so as not to abuse his favor.

While he still has their ear, Reijo asks his new captains, "By chance, either of ye's know a mate who's got the skills ta deal with... shall we say, the hellish sort o'trouble?"

They know anyone who can deal with devils? Anyone who was on the inside of Cheliax... or clerical or other types who have the knowledge and skills for dealing effectively with summoned baatezu? Let's see who Reijo might know too while we're at it:

Ah..So the plan is to head to Corentyn, I will need nothing and am ready to go

Closing out the tabs, Reijo notices a smirk come across Havanaw’s face. Jim shakes his head, more in response to Havanaw’s smirk than anything else. I know a guy, but he is hard to get ahold of. Lives on Quent. Creepy fella. Could try to track him down though, may be of some help.

@Dim, how will you be heading to Corentyn, overland flight, ship, scroll of teleport?

Sunny prepares her ship and crew. Making ready to sail along side Captain Noro.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

Setting sail on the morning tide the flotilla begins its trip northward toward Corentyn. Dimitrious flies out ahead of the ships and with his high vantage point is able to see for scores of miles. A few ships appear as specks on the blue sea. The trip northward begins well, the seasonal winds coming mostly from the south. With the going easy your crews find themselves with time on their hands, a rare thing indeed.

As you head Northward what are your intentions as you near Corentyn? It is not know as Port Indomitable for no reason. It is a significant military outpost in addition to being a pretty large city. Are you disguising your ships? Using cover identities?
