"I believe Leo, Kiko, and Rishana all have good points. We should make it clear that we will help them but should they try and doublecross us and or try to ever attack Sandpoint or travelers heading to and from there we will make sure there are severe and fatal consequences should they try anything," Derric whispered in agreement with his companions.

"There's also the possibility that some of these goblins might still fight beside their chieftain so don't drop your guard," the furry samurai warned.

Somewhere in the swamp:
A long used trail winds through the swamp,rain pounds down and the occasional lightning bolt pierces the sky. A humanoid creature with a split jaw full of broken and shattered teeth scrambles through undergrowth. In any other context its face would seem evil; but now, fear driving its limbs, it is only pitiable. Eyes once filled with hate weep with anxiety, a wound in its side flowing freely in the rain. Behind, a few dark shapes stalk after it. One, four legged and low to the ground, darts ahead and around to channel the creature where it pleases. Another lopes behind, flashes of armor peeking from a cloak and a wicked polearm readied to deliver a fatal blow. More follow behind as twisted laughter can be heard above the thunder.

Whoa! Didn't see that coming! The first form is one Derric will probably recognize as the monster that attacked him when he and the original adventurers I was with entered the swamps.

The sudden vision came out of nowhere. The kitsune's hairs stood on end as he recognized one of the strange and ominously looking figures to be that of the strange monster that attacked him when he entered the swamp with the others....but wasn't there a halfling with them? Derric was unsure about the others.

"What is this? A vision...no it must be a premonition from the gods themselves. Desna, Daikitsu, Shelyn, Arshava, and Iomedae must be warning us of coming evil in our futures."

Why would the gods (actually goddesses since all of them are female) warn them? Were they to complete some important goal or quest? Was this connected to what happened earlier?

Daichi's face remains as impassive as ever, but his eyes narrow and a hand comes up to his forehead, massaging his temple. "What in the world..." He sighs, wondering why a vision would come now, of all times. And what the strange creature it showed was. "If we're going to do something, perhaps we should do it. Before the goblins decide that it's easier to try to kill us."

Rishana's eyes widen as the images flash through her mind and she staggers slightly, caught off-guard by the sudden imposition on her mind.

What...? What are these creatures?

As the images fade, she shakes her head in an attempt to clear it. She knew that sometimes men and women of faith would receive visions from their gods and she remembered that her own tribe had possessed shamans that could perceive the spirit world and other things unseen by most - but she was neither of those.

Focus on the present threat Rishana. You can ponder the meaning of this once it's safer.

"Daichi is right. If we're of one mind on this then we should try and be done with it as soon as possible."

Jayna staggers slightly. The vision flashing into her mind. What was that? Who is chasing that creature? She looks around to see if anyone else appears to have had a vision. Not sure, she decides to wait to say anything until they are away from the goblins.

"I agree with Daichi. Let's get the goblins taken care of. They aren't known for their patience.", she says.


Runt looks on at the conversation, his eyes flicking between each of you and his own wound, worry creasing his brow.

The helmeted goblin leans on the windowsill of the hut, head perched neatly on upturned palms. "So... kill Chief, no kill Chief? If kill Chief then I can help get others out of fight."

"I believe we were planning to kill your chief before we even got here," Daichi informs the small goblin. "So yes, getting the other goblins to stay out of it would be helpful."


The goblin nods, "Give me a few moments. Runt you're hurt, stay here. Redeye, you help out." A previously unseen goblin and the helmeted one leave the hut and move along walkways to the other buildings, half disappearing in the rain.

As the other two goblins disappear into the rain, Rishana looks at the others and nods. "Best prepare now if anyone has any preparations to make," she advises as she draws her longbow and glances around for any signs of trouble.

Although it wasn't immediately apparent to her at the time, Rishana now realizes that she has an idea of what at least one of the creatures in the vision was.

A dire wolf...here, in these woods? More and more the signs bode ill for Sandpoint...

As he waited, the kitsune began to observe the goblins left behind in case of betrayal. While waiting, Derric began to think about the images he saw in the vision. He tried to remember anything that might tell him anything about the sinister looking figures, whether it be tavern gossip, rumors from wandering caravans, or something from books he read.

sorry about the delay, work was crazy

From the haze of the rain a shrill whistle erupts, a bright light zips overhead leaving a trail of steam in the downpour. A moment passes and several more whistles and lights follow. Arms pumping furiously come the helmeted goblin and Redeye who is now bleeding and missing part of an ear. In the haze behind them are several dark shapes and a riot of shrieks in the goblin tongue erupt from them.

Redeye's voice is higher in pitch than Runt or his helmeted friend, but whether this is natural or panic induced is hard to say. "Not everyone went for it" he shouts, the shapes behind him resolving into armed and angry goblins.

"Senga, mau!" Rishana cries as the air is split by the whistle of fireworks and the shrieks of the goblins. She quickly raises her bow and takes aim at one of the goblins pursuing Redeye and his friend, sending an arrow whizzing toward it!

The kitsune samurai takes his shortspear and hurls it with all of his might at one of the goblins chasing Redeye and his buddy.

Seeing the other goblins approach, Kiko took a few steps back. This looked like it could get ugly very quickly.

She loaded her sling but did not use it. There were other, better, ways to do this and the sling was for when those failed.

Leo draws his sword and advances 20', then waits to see if any goblins move toward the party, ready to swat any that come too close.

Readied action to strike if a goblin tries to get close!

Redeye and his friend's arms pump furiously as they run toward you, eyes wide with panic. Anyone bothering to notice Runt note he has scampered for cover behind the most solid house stilt he could find, bulbous head tucked under his arms. The shot from Rishana struck one of the oncoming goblins and embedded in leather armor, the little fiend not seeming to notice. Derric's spear found more purchase, skewering the onrushing creature and sending it crumpling into a ball. As the now three goblins rushed in, one found himself face to face with Leodegrance and quickly backpedaled, comically sliding in the mud as the paladin's longsword barely missed its overlong nose. This second goblin and a third joined in half-hearted attacks against Leo.

One goblin down, 2 on Leo, one stayed back and tried to light a firework but the rain stymied that.

Daichi takes a deep breath, focusing his inner energy and causing the earth to crack around his feet. He gestures, causing a large clump of stones to rise in to the air before punching forward, bombarding the goblin fruitlessly trying to light one of the fireworks.

Jayna lookes impressed at Daichi. She's never seen a Geokineticist in action before. She points her finger and a projectile of blue files from the tip and strikes the left Goblin next to Leodegrance.

Apologies if I'm getting ahead; going to post my next action now so it can go off as the turn order pops up.

Leo lets out a short "oof" as one of the goblins somehow snakes a weapon under his guard, and counterattacks.

Sadly, his swings continue to be ineffective. Is this guy really even a trained warrior?

As the two remaining goblins fall on Leo, Rishana calls to Senga as she readies another arrow. "Senga, whakaeke!" she cries, pointing at one of the two attacking the warrior.

Trusting that the others can help Leo, the hunter sets her sights on the lone goblin standing back and fiddling with the fireworks.

Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 8

But the rainwater dripping into her eyes obscures her vision and the arrow sails harmlessly into the darkness.

Though momentarily startled by the fireworks earlier, Senga now seems ready to heed Rishana's call and darts forward from her shelter underneath the building. Closing rapidly on the melee, she lashes out with a paw at one of the goblins!

Damage: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Senga has a speed of 50 feet so I'm hoping she can close the distance and still make an attack this round. If not, she'll move as close as she can.


Round 1 Resolution

Daichi's blast catches the firework wielding goblin off guard, he looks up just in time to leap sideways. His leather armor is ripped in multiple places by the storm of earth and he seems bewildered. Jayna's magic missile is somewhat more effective, smashing one of the goblins face Leodegrance and drawing a sharp yelp. The goblin's head snaps toward the sorceress and his look of rage is incongruous on his bulbous head.

Kiko launches at shot at the goblin trying, and failing, to use a firework. Her shot goes wide as does the arrow loosed by Rishana. Senga, on the other hand, connects brutally with the little green psychopath. Tearing claws open up a wicked gash in the goblin's leg and he screams in pain. Derric collides with one of the goblins facing Leo and neatly slashes his throat. The diminutive threat collapses, blood pulsing out into a muddy puddle. Leo's nemesis continues to jab at him with a short blade.

Goblin 3 v Leo: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

But his attacks are over extended and fruitless. In the life or death struggle between goblin and cat, the goblin pulls a wicked blade from a boot sheath...

Jayna sees Rishana attack the goblin in the back. She shoots a Ray of Frost from her finger.

If the firebug is within 25 feet. If he's not I'll shoot the ray at one in melee. I don't have Precise Shot.

The goblin facing Sanga finds himself overpowered by the cat's fangs, as he falls Sanga brutally disembowels him. The cat pants heavily while her jaws slowly clamp down on the goblin's trachea. His more melee oriented friend fairs little better. Handily dodging Derric's blow he unleashes a flurry of invectives, his concentration momentarily distracted a heavy blow from Leodegrance strikes him between his shoulders and forces him to a knee. Daichi's blast catches the goblin in the side and spins him around to be struck by Jayna's blast full in his face. His sad collapse into the mud of the battlefield is accompanied by stilted gasps from an ice encrusted mouth.

Fight is done. Leo and Derric, I gave you flank bonus. Jayna and Daichi, with Sanga engaging the rear goblin in melee I redirected your attacks at the one fighting Leo and Derric.

"Well," Daichi says as he absently straightens and brushes off his clothes. "That went rather well. Shall we wrap this up then? I believe we still have a chief to take care of."

"Yes, that went better than it could have," Rishana agrees as she carefully approaches Senga, who still held the limp goblin in her jaws. "Mahi pai, Senga. Tino pai," she murmurs soothingly as she kneels down to inspect the leopard's battle wound.

"Shallower than I thought. Good," she sighs with relief as she quickly bandages the wound with a strip of cloth. Her task done, she gives Senga an affectionate pat on the flank before rising to her feet. "Daichi is right, we still have work to do."
