Leokian Trasandoral |
Hello everyone!
Two quick questions for you Mathpro:
Are drawbacks for a 3rd trait alright?
Are you allowing background skills?
I'm very excited about this AP, it's been at the top of my want to play list for a long time!
Rhis Alberuti |
A Calistrian, twos Desnans, a Shelynite and an Arcanist walk into an Inn. There were no survivors.
But more seriously, greetings all and welcome to the cool kid table! Please take your obligatory indoor sunglasses and custom team jackets. We'll be serving the punch and snacks at five sharp.
Alright, alright, I'll knock it off. Personally I've been wanting to get a drop on Jade Regent for a while, so thanks to Mathpro for giving me the opportunity to bring one of my weirder characters to life. Pretty interesting lineup overall; Samurai, Rogue, Arcanist, and not one but TWO Warpriests. Aren't we lucky?*
*I mean, we better be, else I took that Luck blessing for nadda.
Rhis Alberuti |
Eh, should be fine. Luck is one of those choices where it's all "The more, the merrier." I'm all for mutual clerical bonding over the nuances of suddenly misfortunate foes and lots of absinthe. Preferably mid-combat, 105ft away, armed with enough arrows to dot Desna's path among the stars.
I'm actually swinging a little on my campaign trait. Rhis can, with a 'couple tweaks, qualify for...quite a lot of them, actually. Benefits of having lived in Sandpoint for ~30 years I guess. Don't wanna step on people's toes or plans.
Shaeda Stormborn |
I chose Friend of the Family, which is supposed to be "for as long I have been alive." I'm 25, and my story is I got to Sandpoint 8 years ago, so I'm fudging a bit...
Leokian Trasandoral |
Thanks Mathpro
I'm content with the Pride drawback. I think it suits Leokian to a T.
I'm alright with background skills either way, mostly they're good for flavor, but I might put one in history or another knowledge skill to jump start them. With 6 points I level Leokian's not hurting.
Derric |
Hell y'all!
Derric here!
And yeah looks like we got some good classes here. Especially since we have two healers
I choose Childhood Crush as it made sense for a character who would had always been shunned for being different and then someone comes along and extends the hand of friendship to him. Strong friendships can sometimes evolve into love. Also as for the reason for a kitsune, it felt like a neat race to play and while kitsune are good as rogues or sorcerers and even bards, I felt a warrior class would make the character unique.
So I'm looking forward to adventuring with all of you!
As for background skills...I'm not really a fan of it. I haven't really read the rules that thoroughly but I prefer the normal method for skills. But that's just me.
Rhis Alberuti |
Yeah man, I took one glance at Leokian's general outlook and went "Yup. Rhis is going to want to toss him in the deep end of life. Guy needs to write a story, not read one."
Especially since we have two healers
Hahhaaaaaa, that is not the word I would use, buddy. Warpriests are incredibly selfish casters in my experience (o'course throw a wand of CLW at us and I'm sure we'll be set).
Kitsunes are pretty sweet; generally looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.
On the topic of ages; Rhis is...sort of assumed to be knocking around her early fifties. Doesn't look a day over her mid-twenties. She forgets the exact number. Stuff gets confusing when you don't count birthdays.
Honestly, I might just pick up Caravan Guard because Sandru needs some attention and he's undoubtedly the best drinking buddy at The Rusty Dragon (I mean unless the Best Customer trait is up for grabs because honestly that's just an amazing excuse to always have rum/wine/sake/beverage-of-choice to hand).
Then again, Rhis thinks crashing at The 'Dragon is going to end up with her turning incredibly spherical and poor, so her relationship with the place is very...love-hate. In that "You keep taking my money and I keep coming back. There is obviously something wrong with me" kind of way. It's probably definitely the food.
Relationship Counseling from a Calistrian...hohboy. Can Rhis just, I dunno, silently judge you all at 60 paces? Is that an option?
Leokian Trasandoral |
Yeah man, I took one glance at Leokian's general outlook and went "Yup. Rhis is going to want to toss him in the deep end of life. Guy needs to write a story, not read one."
Well that's part of Leokian's attraction to Shalelu actually. He coasts, she does things. Pretty unlikely that "Hey, I stopped by to tell you that I quit my gig to go wander around." is going to impress her. I guess you never know, but I won't claim his going to be good at Childhood Crush.
Shaeda Stormborn |
GM can you open the gameplay so we can dot in?
Remember to delete your post right after dotting in, so you get it in your campaigns tab, but don't look like a noob with a post that just says "dot."
Rhis Alberuti |
I'm not using innuendo here.
Really? Not even a little bit? I'm disappointed, both in character and out.
Seriously though; Rhis'll probably be blatantly whoring herself out to Divine Favor for...ever, actually. It's the only way she's gonna keep up with the might that is Andosana's bow twang in a straight duel. She'd call it cheating but....no, no, that's definitely cheating, isn't it? Whoops?
Caerwyn Callandriil |
Hey all, Caerwyn checking in and I'm only half elven.
Caerwyn Callandriil |
Caerwyn's more of a melee focused Rogue. I plan on taking some Fighter levels interspersed amongst the Rogue levels. Caerwyn's also a member of the Sandpoint militia who's just returned from patrolling the Lost Coast road and is cooling his heels at the Dragon.

For those that haven't already...
”I was a very young lass when me mother birthed me on a Chelish man-o-war. She telled me that we was two points into the wind on the outskirts of the Eye of Abendengo. What she didn’t tell me was who me father ever was,” the she-halfling began her story.
”You see, me mother was a slavegirl on that ship. Brought along cuz wee folks like us eats less and works more, for more hours, than most.” She took a swig from her mug, grimaced at the bitter taste of the brew and continued, ”the sea was me upbringing, but it wasn’t me life. When I was reaching me full height, the sailors let on that I was a pretty lass, and they would all be interested in helping to cross over to me womanly years. One sailor though decided he would take me for hisself, without ever asking.” A slight shiver went down her arms as she recounted that memory. ”A disgusting man, not unattractive, just dirty, and foulmouthed. Worse than what a sailor needs be to carry the title of ‘scurvy dog.’ That first time was terrible for me, and that night I cried meself to sleep. But in me dreams She came to me. She explained how it is supposed to be. How a girl should get to choose. Even Her prostitutes gets a choice, of client, or at least of business establishment, or price. That it should be consensual, and that rapers were an abomination in Her eyes.” The Halfling sat up straight, with a determined grin, ”I went to sleep in me hammock that night, a broken and hate filled girl, but with Her help, I woke up the next day with love in me heart, and her sting in me hand. I didn’t ken where it came from, but the whip was there, and it felt alive to me. There was power in me mind, and I knew the words to use it. I crawled out of the hammock, and I went to find that raper bastard. He was on the deck. I could see the buildings beyond. We was ported in Egorian that day, arrived during the night I guess. She had arranged that I now know. I confronted him. He confessed his sin proudly, bragged about it. He didn’t know I had changed during the night. I brought out Her sting, and I whipped that man to when he was weeping. Said he would ne'er do it again. I made sure he wouldn’t, and when I was done, I suggested he join one of them ascetic monk-asteries, since he wasn’t going to be having his favorite fun any more.”
”I jumped ship, knowing that I would be strung up for what I had done, but She guided me to help. The Bellflowers got me out of Cheliax. To Magnimar, and there I learned just who She was. I learned that the Savored Sting was more than just lust and love, she was vengeance. And as her priest of war, I was that vengeance. Not knowing what She had in mind for me, I tried my hand at being a parish whore. I learned the ropes, and how to please the clients, but I needed more. I finally concluded that as She stood for love, I would carry her mantel against hatred, but not in the city. She led me to Sandpoint. I guess they was needing some lovin' there."
"That were eight years ago, give or take. I remember the first night I came to town. I met her then. She was old then. People said she had always been old. She smelled of buttered bread and cinnamon though, and she gave me a warm bed that night. She didn't be judging me, and me profession. No, not her, she told me where to go for work, and who to refuse. I never knew how she knew all that, cuz whoring certainly weren't her thing, she was just a very knowing lady. Nishka Mvashti it was. Poor lady passed away a bit back, but her daughter Koya is still here, and also a wonderful woman. Oh, I remembers what Nishka told me the night she crossed over, but, well that's for me, and really it matters not, as it won't happen."
"So, now, how much money was you looking to spend tonight on your friend's birthday present?"
Shaeda has the slim body one expects of a halfling, but with some of the curves of a gnome, and breasts that might make a dwarf blush. Still, her brown hair frames a rather average looking face, and her brown eyes don't sparkle or glow, despite what her prospective customers might tell her, hoping to deduce her and lower the price.
At less than three feet tall, and not thirty pounds, she certainly isn't an imposing figure, but with the power of Calistria behind her, she has the confidence of those thrice her size and twice her age.

Caerwyn Callandriil wrote:Hey all, Caerwyn checking in and I'm only half elven. You can be made whole! I'll start doing the research...
Disturbing, and excellent!
Derric |
I might switch out Survival with Diplomacy as it might fit better with his character, since he was raised by a merchant family.
Also, speaking of ages, Derric is 23, which if I remembered correctly, makes him about a bit older than Ameiko as I have heard people say that Ameiko is 22, but I'm not 100% certain about that. I'm going to leave it up to the GM as to what her age is and then change Derric's age accordingly, since he's supposed to be a bit older than her. While he is older, he looked up to her still while they were growing up.
I do need to ask: GM is it possible if I could make Blaze, Derric's horse, a Lastwall Jasper/Taldan Jennet crossbreed, which both types of horses are listed in the Knights of the Inner Sea book as: Lastwall Jaspers having a +2 trait bonus to Swim, and Swim is a class skill for them; and Taldan Jennet: A Taldor jennet can learn a total of eight tricks when trained using the Handle Animal skill (as opposed to the
standard six for having an Intelligence score of 2).
Since she's a crossbreed, I figure she would get seven instead of eight tricks and a +1 trait bonus to Swim, and Swim is a class skill for her.
What do the rest of you think?
BTW, samurai are a type of knight, since it is an alternate version of cavalier. I almost thought about doing a cavalier/samurai multicass until a friend of mine pointed out that you really couldn't do that since samurai is an alternate version of the cavalier class. Oops!
Um...Nevermind about the traits for Blaze. Seems I overlooked this part of the Knights of the Inner Sea sourcebook:
Animal Mounts
Each of the following listings details a specific breed of riding animal, notes where to find statistics for its kind, and provides a trait that grants an additional boon to the mount or its rider. The trait granted to a mount counts against a character's total maximum number of traits. If a knight replaces his mount, he effectively loses the old trait and gains the new mount's trait.
So yeah I goofed on that aspect. Thought the animal traits applied to the animal and not the rider. My mistake there.
Still I like the crossbreed idea. Which I had known about the trait rule.
I'll leave it up to the GM on what he wants to do in respects of the trait rule: if we should follow the rule in the Knights of the Inner Sea book or just let the trait apply to the horse and not the rider.
Leokian Trasandoral |
I'm really excited to see how a mounted character plays out. I've never seen one in a game since so few of the Pathfinder AP's, etc. are in settings that make it practical. Jade Regent certainly sounds like an exception to that!
If you're really asking all of us about the horse, sounds good to me!
Rhis Alberuti |
Hey; if Half-Orc Extraction is a thing...Just, y'know, throwing that out there.
On topic, and similarly if anyone's curious about the party dreamer:
Despite being an accomplished archer and devotee of Desna, Rhis is infamous beyond her eerie lifespan, possessing a reputation for being lazy, capable of sleeping anywhere, and sometimes appearing downright apathetic. Those who've known her for an extended length of time can profess that this is simply untrue. She genuinely is apathetic, but only towards causes she feels are pointless, or already consumed by fate. That said, her paycheck must come from somewhere--and few have anything offensive to say of the Desnan's carefree ways, as she appears equally likely to assist as she is to ignore a request entirely.
On most days, Rhis can be found wasting time and coin in The Rusty Dragon, probably napping on the bar, over a table, or sometimes even hanging in the rafters, should the establishment's glorious owner take an eye off the Desnan for more than a few minutes. Rhis is convinced that Ameiko's revenge ploy is to feed her out of house, home, and wardrobe ("Your stupid foreign cuisine is making me fat, Kaijitsu. I hope you're happy.")
Standing at 5'6", Rhis appears yo own a lithe, wiry frame beneath her indigo and lilac coat. A well-groomed head of hair that threatens some shade of charcoal-grey does little to disguise the almost transparent colour of her skin--an odd thing considering that Rhis spends a great deal of her time dreaming under the Varisian sun. Even stranger, despite possessing a healthy (or at least certainly athletic) build, Rhis barely weighs more than 100lbs. As usual, she has no idea why this is, but often deadpans that her bones must be hollow to accommodate the vast amounts of fruit she stuffs into her maw on a daily basis.
TL;DR - If you're local, chances are you've met her at some point I guess, and you'd know that she has a rep for being SUPER LAX about pretty much everything, as far as you know (I mean unless you do something obviously evil, at which point that bowstring starts earning its keep). Shaeda's almost certainly met her as it stands; Rhis was a very old friend of the Mvashtis, and I can't imagine she would've let a Calistrian priest walk around without jamming in innuendos whenever the opportunity presented itself (or maybe just asking her out to drink and talk work stories; a Calistrian's got to have some decent gossip, eh?) -- but that's just me rambling thoughts. I'm all open to ideas here folks, just tossing my pennies in before I gotta snooze for work~
Derric: Huh. Today I learned something about mounts. And yeah, Samurai are glorified eastern cavaliers. Yup. That's a thing. No multiclassing there, bud. Meanwhile, my inferior 2 skill ranks per level and I are going to sit on Perception and Sense Motive unless I hear a blatant objection. I might dance between SM and Survival; makes the most sense, thematically, to me.
Derric |
Yeah a lot of APs don't make use of mounts that well. The only ones I know that make full use of mounts are this one, Giantslayer (because come on, you're invading the homes of giants! Everything is big!), and Wrath of the Righteous. I think Kingmaker was an early one, but I could be wrong.
Also, Derric worships both Shelyn and Daikitsu.
Daikitsu is a goddess from the Dragon Empires and is the patron deity of kitsunes, rice, agriculture, and craftsmanship. Yeah I did a lot of reading up on the Dragon Empires sourcebook when I created this character.
Shaeda Stormborn |
I am fine with Shaeda and Rhis knowing one another. It's a small town after all.
People say Kingmaker is good for mounts, and often it is, but there are quite a few dungeons in Kingmaker as well.
I'm getting 4/5 skill points per level, so I'll likely start working in k(religion), but I gotta keep my whoring skills (diplomacy, sense motive, profession(courtesan)) up you know!
Shaeda Stormborn |
Anyone else doing Diplomacy? We should figure out who the "face" is.
I'm glad that both Caerwyn and Derric will be melee, that will work perfectly, although I imagine Caerwyn is gonna be constantly trying for flanks!
It looks like nobody had darkvision, correct? That's good and bad. We'll get some light sources going I guess! Magic weapons that glow, continual flame when we can, etc.
Leokian Trasandoral |
Leokian is unlikely to know anyone else in the party except for possibly some past chance meeting. He's only been to Sandpoint a few times (3-4) briefly to visit Shalelu and those visits are spread over a number of years. Honestly he finds Sandpoint rather dull. He's never been able to understand what Shalelu sees in the place.
If we find we're in need of a face I could trade out one of Leokian's traits for something like Clever Wordplay and get INT to diplomacy. I think there's a trait that does that and gives a social skill in class.
Derric |
I think Derric could take up Diplomacy since it is a class skill for him.
And I think most everyone here would know Derric as well.
