The third largest city in Varisia, Riddleport is also the most notorious. It is here that the machinations of an ancient race, once again boil up out of the Darklands and into the light. The sinister plots of the subterranean underwriters manifest!

That's fine, I just wanted to justify my knowledge of silver's effect on devils (which I had to edit. I always get my outsiders confused. All this time I thought it was demons and I have nothing but OOTS to blame. :P)

Iscarel can't help but smirk at his kinsman's tirade. He raises an eyebrow at "his woman" and gives the ranger a jeering nudge and a vicious smile. The elf seems skeptical, but there is a softness in his features. "A lone elf walks a lonely path." he says, sadly. "You would be a fool to turn away companionship." he says, shifting uncomfortably. "Especially in a city like this."

He begins to saunter down the street. "You humans are so quick to make friends. I've not known any of you for more than a moon..." he says, baffled. With that, he checks his dagger in his sheath and makes for the goblin, hoping to have words with Saul and the others.

Meaning if it were temple business, she wouldn't risk contracting the hit out, lest it get botched and come back to them. Then again, Iscarel isn't an outsider to them. The more time Tippy spends with this guy, the less he likes the idea, and he thinks his original idea was accurate.

Which is why he went down there in the first place. Sorry if that wasn't clear, I just figured it obvious.

You are able to recall that a 'protection from evil' spell is helpful against possessions but not sure in what context to apply it.

I can't say more on Shorafa. Just don't f%#k with her basically. No Iscarel is a follower and has a better connection to the faith. The more time you spend with which guy? Bojask? And what was your original idea to be clear? Sorry, this is all a bit vague for me to follow.

Bojask:
Tippy stayed behind in order to strike up a casual conversation with Bojask to try to get a feel for the man, and figure out why the Calistrians would want him dead. His initial theory is that Bojask misused one of the girls, possibly more than one. Then he saw the zombie woman, and was speculating that she used to be a prostitute. He hadn't gone down with the intention of killing the man himself, but did have a look see for possible ways. Right now, he thinks slipping down when the man is sleeping to let the zombie out might just do it, especially if he sneaks down to sabotage the man's ability to defend himself first.

Having retained Tam in your group for the time being, reassuring him that each of your burdens are easily carried as a group you return to the Gold Goblin. Two hours after noon, everyone is witness to an unusual phenomenon. Without any warning whatsoever, the city becomes saturated with magnetic fields. All metal, including armor and weapons becomes slightly magnetized. Items that cling together under the force are separated with moderate ease. During the phenomenon, people begin to panic and speculate about it's cause and wonder if and when it will end. The effect persists for 8 minutes. The occurrence becomes the hot topic of conversation and debate and varying opinions about it erupt into the occasional brawl which is quickly broken up. Gendarmes roam the streets in squads doing what they can to ease the tensions.

When the group returns to the Gold Goblin, it doesn't take them long to find Tippy, who bounds up to them. "Did something weird just happen to all you as well? I was in the kitchens, sniffing out what was for supper, when all of a sudden the knives and metal stuff starting sliding across the counters, and we need to talk someplace, and my coat sleeves and pant legs got stuck to the stove!"

Tippy quickly whispered that middle bit about needing to talk in the middle of his excited babble so lightly you almost missed it.

Iscarel bats at his earings irritably during the chaos, and checks the daggers in his belt, tugging them free with some difficulty and peering at them with his beetle-black eyes. He curses the mages under his breath. "Some kind of trick, no doubt." he says, without much conviction, before staring fixedly at the shadow in the sky.

Iscarel grins at the halfling, following in step. "Never in all my years..." he begins, in the same conversational tone, before being cut off by Ascaria. He isn't afraid to laugh in her face at the shade of pink she turns, patting her on the shoulder with one last chuckle. "Have no fear, my lady. Marcus takes good care of his blade, so I hear. He cares for it every night, I hear." he says, raising his eyebrows. "Keeps her well oiled..."

Tam looks on at the magnetic effect fascinated and the obviously magic eruption. He casts his gaze around as the citizenry scurry about - some in confusion others in fear. He looks up toward the Cypher Lodge in the distance and back toward the Cypergate seeing the magnetic effect has encompassed the entirety of Riddleport. Finally his eyes settle upon the darkness in the sky.

"I do not think this is any trick of meddling wizardry gone ary... perhaps something from the 'Gate' itself."

Tam takes a pause to secure his daggers and rapier from clattering together...

Tam, smirks at Iscarel's comments, "Now, now... no need to further embarrass the young lass at a simple mis-worded turn of phrase. We know what you meant Miss Ascaria."

Tam's gaze is still turned on the darkness in the sky and the position of the morning sun.

"I have only been in Riddleport a short time... but there has been no storm or rain... what is that patch of Darkness in the sky over there? It has not moved or changed since we left this morning."

Tam speaks, and the elf's cheeriness all but evaporates, as he stares fixedly away from the shadow in the sky. "I hear talk that the gods themselves want to swallow this city..." the elf says, a worried tone in his voice. "Good riddance, I say. If you believe such talk. I'll be halfway on a boat to Lake Encarthan if that happens, and any smart man would be too."

Iscarel stays silent, and you guess that this isn't all he has to say on the matter, but the elf stays silent, wheeling into one of the staff rooms, taking the best seat and putting his feet on the table. "Has anybody seen Saul? Probably off counting his coppers..."

Female Human Witch 2 (AC 12/12/10, HP 16/16, Conditions: Nil)

Trying to gloss over the unfortunate pun, Ascaria follows Tam's glance to the blot in the sky. "Iscarel may be more right than he knows. An effect that affects the entire city is not within the power of a single wizard. I doubt that all of the cyphermages together wield enough power to accomplish such a feat. If I were to guess, I'd say that it has either to with the gate, the blot, or maybe even both. What ever it is, I don't like it. Who knows what strange effects may follow this one."

Looking at the other in turn, and always pointing to Tippy with her eyes she adds "May be we should talk about this inside..."

It was probably the nicest comment Marcus had given Iscarel yet.

Already on edge after watching the effect of the cypher's spell on Marcus, Ethaniel is so thoroughly startled by the magnetic occurrence that he goes to his knees in the street and digs his fingers into the hewn stone. The increased presence of the gendarmes immediately afterwards does little to ease his tension.

By the time the group reaches the Golden Goblin, Ethaniel is seemingly composed once again, though his eyes flick to the left and right evermore. He gives a curt greeting to Tippy, but other than that, he does not speak.

When the group moves into the private room, however, he is certainly among them.

Tam follows them into the Golden Goblin but takes a seat near a window ...looking out at the blot in the sky, his expression worried.

Once they are alone, Tippy begins his report, whispered so low that the rest have to practically bend over double to hear him.
"So I spent the day with Bojask, trying to figure out why Shorafa wants him dead. My best theory at the moment, other than that she's doing it for Clegg, is that I guess Bojask likes his hookers cause you can pay them extra to be rough with them. If he tried that with a Calistrian abbess, I don't think she'd be best pleased. There's also the matter of the female zombie he has down there, the newest combatant to replace the animals in the ring. Other than complaining about how much it cost, he wouldn't tell me anything about the purchase. However, if you do want to go through with this wet work, I think releasing the zombie while the man is sleeping would probably do it, and divert suspicion, but at this point, I don't think this is something we should be doing until we're clear on why."

Ascaria visibly pales at Tippy's account of his findings. When he has finished, she responds in a whisper. "I understand that we need to gather information on Zincher. And I would very much like to repay him for his deeds. But this ... You were at that ... temple..." she nearly spits out the word. "You went there yesterday and brought back an assassination contract?!" Her voice grows louder as she talks herself into a rage. She looks around at the others, disbelieving. "Who of you knew of this? All of you? Marcus?"

She takes a deep breath and regains her compusure.
"Neither do we know who is on whose side - hell, we don't even know how many sides there are - nor do we have a clue who wants what in this game. If we act on this Shorafa's request just because we do not have better leads, we are only pawns that are pushed around. I don't like that at all. I will not stand by and let anyone be murdered under this roof. If you're gonna go through with it, I'm gonna tell Saul. And seriously Tippy, I had thought better of you."

"EXCUUUUSE ME!?!?!?!?!" Tippy rounds on Ascaria, all pretense of silence gone for the moment. "Where the f&%$ do you get off? Are you stupid or something? Did some large metal object come flying through the air and hit you on the head on your way back here? Nobody here said anything about blindly following requests for anything. An opportunity has presented itself, and we would be fools not to at least investigate it, which is all I've done, Miss Panties-in-a-Bunch. Nor am I operating on something this serious without all my group in the loop," he adds, directing this statement at Iscarel. "We are all we have in this world at the moment, for better or for worse. And you," he returns his heated gaze at Ascaria, "can take your sanctimonious 'Calistria's temple is the dirty place' attitude and shove it. It's all fine and dandy to look from afar and pretend it's all too tawdry for the likes of you, but only the truly stupid ever claim never to have entertained some of her teachings in their private thoughts. That place gave me a home when I had none, and saved me from a brutal and abusive slavery when the law turned a blind eye. That's what that 'temple' does, among many other things: offers justice to people too weak for the corrupt laws of the city to care about. That man could be a serial killer of homeless orphans, but if he lines the pockets of the magistrate, fixing fights for them in the arena downstairs, then it's only the Church of Calistria that's going to do anything about it. So we are going to take this opportunity and give it all due consideration, get all our facts first, and then decide, as a group to act on it or not. And like I said: this is a family affair." He points his right hand at Ascaria's nose. "You..are..not..telling..Saul..anything." A dagger pops into his hand inches from her nose.

Finally, somebody speaks sensibly. I have asked myself why I trust the halfling that tried to cut my purse strings naught but a few weeks ago, and I have an answer. He is perhaps the only one of us with some sense.

"Sheathe the blade, Tippy." Ethaniel says in a calm, quiet voice. "There is no cause for any of us to draw steel." Though he speaks to Tippy, Ethaniel's eyes do not stray from Marcus and the scimitar in his belt.

"I...I have my reasons in all of this, and you will hear them. Only know that above all, if we do not do this thing, Shorafa will ask for our lives next."

Iscarel will stiffen like a startled cat as Tippy begins speaking, he spares Ascaria and Marcus a hesitant glance and grits his teeth. He opens his mouth to object, then shakes his head slightly. Elvish:
You fooled me.

As Ascaria speaks, Iscarel raises his hands to calm her and stands up in his seat. "Ascaria..." he says, tensely. "Ascaria, please, talunka'lle, I..." Iscarel begins, a soothing tone to his voice, but as she threatens to tell Saul, his expression becomes almost predatory. He closes his eyes, surprised to find his dagger in his hand, nervously picking at the table. He raises his hands nonchalantly, dagger still in plain view. The elf lopes slowly over to the halflings side, each step slow, and measured, giving Marcus a wide berth. The tension in the air is palatable. "A family affair." he says, smiling. "Yes, mellonamin, I would be proud to call you brother."

He turns to face the others, arms folded and eyes raised in challenge. "If you want to know who brokered this deal... It was me."|

Elvish:
Calm down.

Surprisingly, Marcus, whom everyone seems to expect fury from, appears clam. Rather than anger he speaks with cold Finality.
He learned his lesson from letting his emotions get in the way.
The tension in the room was palpable.
As if to break it, Apollo woofs, a very loud and deep throated noise which draws attention particularly Tippy's to the 180lb Mastive in the room.

For starters, everybody calm down. I have faith that TIPPY wouldn't act on this alone. As for this job we have been given. 'WE' don't have to act on anything. Iscarel has made a deal thatdidn't involve me or Ethaniel.

Offhandedly as he turns to Iscarel he mentions to Tippy, I have faith in you friend, but if you pull a blade on Ascaria in anger again, I'll feed you to Apollo.

He stands beside Ascaria to reassure her as he looks at Iscarel.
Now what are the EXACT terms? Did you leave an out? Did she give any reason for the hit?

"Regardless, her terms were thus." the elf says, lowering his voice. "We will have a visitor. One of her girls. Opps Sorry! I thought DM spoilers were general announcements of ooc instructions for players! My bad! Megan does not do things that way, nor any other game I've played here. There are no actual posted 'rules' of spoiler decorum. Again sorry.

Tam sits at a table near a window of the Golden Goblin... just so the barkeep doesn't think him some wastrel... he'll by a drink of cheap ale. But only sip it as he splits his attention between the door to the private room the party entered, watching the bar's occupants for threats {as usual} and gazing at the blot in the sky though the window... wondering at its cause and what it portents.

His back is to the wall next to the window. Tam is not one to 'play' with his blades idlely so, he appears to be waiting for someone.

Ahh, the DM spoilers are only for me thanks or do I need to roll real dice. I would prefer not. As are other individually labeled spoilers. Don't read something not addressed to you or are specifically given GM permission. Pretty standard stuff I thought. If you can still edit that post, please remove the OOC line.

Female Human Witch 2 (AC 12/12/10, HP 16/16, Conditions: Nil)

Ascariais completely baffled at Tippy's outburst and takes a moment to realize how deeply she must have hurt him. At that time, the mood has already shifted from tension to nearly-drawn-steel and back. She exhales deeply and pinches her nose.

"I ... I am sorry. I guess these last days had a little much in store for me... One moment we face a powerful enemy like Zincher, then we are off researching a mighty demon, suddenly the whole city starts to get magnetic, and the next thing I know is that we are trying to assassinate somebody who keeps a zombie in his bed."

She stifle a laugh and slowly shakes her head.

"Tippy, I didn't mean to offend you. None of you, that is," she adds addressing the others. "I think everyone of you meant for the best. And you are right about two things, Tippy. First, you did come to us to discuss this matter. And second, we really are all everyone of us has right now. It is distressing to see how quickly we are at each other's throats. That is exactly what Zincher would want. I was just so... It was really unexpected, you know."

"I have little knowledge of the Calistrian faith, I admit. If the majority of us thinks that seeing this through is the best solution, I won't hinder you. But don't expect me to hold the blade."
