My custody situation is not going well (legally, it's alright; it's just in terms of my daughter's emotional and physical safety that I'm worried). Also, my internet at home is still out, and probably won't be fixed until Tuesday. I'm having to spend my time at "work" dealing with all that. I am going to have to take a little break. I should be back next week for the bird combat; I might be able to squeeze in a post or two over the weekend too.
In the meantime, regarding the interviews: I think they are about ready to wrap up. Go ahead and finish any conversational threads that are still dangling. I'd like to hear impressions from Kip84 and Kybryn about the applicants before I make a final decision, so please PM me. ZetaGilgamesh has already done this. I'll let everyone know who the chosen player is after that.
Thanks for sticking in there, everyone, I know this has been dragging out.
Sorry to hear about your situation. My sickness had me really down and disoriented but my custody case is almost to trial found out during the week. Hope things look up quickly and everything gets better.
I am praying for your daughter. I wish I could help. A child should not have her safety be worried about.
This is a game and you have more important things at the moment. Please do not worry about the game unless it is to distract yourself for a short time. Take care of whatever needs your attention.
Thanks for your good wishes everyone. A lot is still up in the air, but I am feeling pretty secure about my daughter's physical safety now. It felt good to roll some (virtual) dice for a change!

Yes, that is good to hear Magister. Sorry you're having to go through that. I've had friends in some rough spots on custody and cannot imagine going through it.

Glad things are looking up some. I enjoy using gaming to release tension myself. I bet in about a month, I will be wringing my hands as I go to court for my nephew and nieces.
Well, my internet at home just got fixed. I haven't been able to check on things for a few days because of that, and staying home with my daughter, who had a cold yesterday. (She's better now, but there's a 24-hour rule at school.)
After serious consideration, I have decided to give the hunter spot to Ali Al'Zahrid. The applicants were all highly qualified, and it was a tough decision. Ali got the spot because his backstory gives me the most opportunity to drive the campaign forward. Bribing Felliped with stories didn't hurt either!
Congratulations to Celeador, and thank you to the others who applied! I will let you all know if/when there are replacement openings, or additional characters to add.

Thank you all so much. I have applied to quite a few pbp's in the past, but I can honestly say that this was one of the best group of applicants for a single spot I have ever seen. Each of you guys had rich character history's and fantastic writing. I hope in the future we get the chance to play more together. Vonna, Zahir and Ghostclaw, it was a pleasure. Theodric, Valik and Felliped, thanks for the opportunity! I'm very excited.
Ali and Theodric (and Felliped): If you want to continue in the Ipeq timeline, with more RP and perhaps a fight or two for your timeon the road, I would be open to that. I don't want you to get bored and wander off while waiting for your entrances!

"Ameera, the man has not introduced himself, but I think that his name is Felliped...he sounds a bit like a pesh-addled madman to me.", Valik says from the archway.
"One of the guards caught the bird with an arrow as it was attempting to flee. Apparently it fell over the wall, so it might be prudent to send someone to get it."
Job done :) lol It's been a fun way to introduce Felliped.
That's basically the story as it stands. Depending on how Valik goes about things, you will be hiding in an abandoned building in Kelmarane, or some other nearby landmark. I'll also give you some retroactive knowledge checks for information about Kardswann, the Kulldis Gnolls, the spell sealing the temple, etc.

Guys, I'm at work so I'll have to limit myself to short responses this morning. I could role play about us stocking up on supplies for the trip, but that might get a little dry. Perhaps we could pick it up after we are on the road? I did promise Felliped a new story each night.
I agree. Rather than worry about every little detail of what you take, let's just assume that Ali knows what to buy, and you buy it. I can give you an overview of what terrain and landmarks you will pass, which Ali would already be familiar with, when I get a little time. The first day/night of travel will be through shifting, sandy desert, if you want to get started with some trail-talk. It's still early enough in the year that it's warm, but not too hot to travel during the day, and gets quite chilly at night. We'll assume you each have a mount (Theodric's horse is okay, but a camel would be better in the sand) plus one more mount for gear/provisions.
Just to clarify: the temple of Sarenrae that you were sent to investigate is right in the middle of Kelmarane, on top of the central hill. Map of Kelmarane. The Battle Market, where the gnolls have their headquarters, and where you and your companions were kept, is also on the top of the hill, just across the plaza.
The reason you were captured (and I know you guys would be more cautious than this if actually playing it out) was that the gnolls were all hanging out away from view in the Battle Market, taking an afternoon siesta maybe, at the time that you arrived, and seeing no inhabitants, you didn't bother searching the Battle Market or other ruins, and headed straight to the temple. While you were there, some gnolls spotted you, and brought overwhelming force (since HQ was just a few hundred feet away) to capture you.
edit: Fixed the map link.
A little description: the trade road enters from the S of the map, and generally follows along the Pale River away to the SE. The lower city is at the same level as the surrounding valley floor. The upper city, normally accessed by going up the switchback road on the south side of the city, is built on top of a flat-topped hill, which stands up from the rest of the valley, offering a wide view of the surrounding country.
What would make the most sense is if, rather than walk all the way through town and up the switchback road, which would have given ample opportunity for your expert tracker and guide to find signs of gnoll habitation, Ali instead led you to the "back way", following a narrow trail up the bluffs on the west and northwest sides of the hill. You should be able to see two little rope bridges underneath the label for the temple. That route is not traveled by the gnolls, and it gets you almost directly to the temple, which was your goal. It is also the route Felliped would have used in his escape. This means that none of you have actually been through the lower city.
:D I worked out today that my mobiles Internet renews on tomorrow do I should be able to post all weekend. Sorry for the false alarm. I stood on the beach (east coast of Aussie) and waved across the pacific ocean to everyone... G'day
He's usually in Hawaii, and as I recall he travels around for military stuff, so it seems likely.
Speaking of which, where are you two located, Kybryn and Celeador? We're already almost as spread around the globe as we can be, but if one of you is in Europe, then we've got a genuine "sun never sets on the Legacy of Fire" group going here... I'm in US Central Time (Oklahoma).
It's Fathers day today in Australia (not sure when it's done in America). My Wife and four kids have all come down with a stomach bug do I've been cleaning sick all day while we are on holidays. [sarcasm] :D Yay [/sarcasm]. Though my wife did get me a sonic screwdriver!

Oh! Today I also picked up The Oud: Music of the Near and Middle East Really puts me in a good mindset when I have to write up stuff for Ali! There's a free preview on iTunes. Really good stuff!
I am also GMing this AP in my face-to-face group, and I have a whole playlist of Arabic music I use, including some more new-age stuff for the later books, when things start to get pervasively magical. I like it.
