I have GMed this one so I didn't speak up against the rest sorry

Oddler pulls out the map and points out wher

Looks like he has some sort of ambitious sabotage planned. She wants to finish the job. Cause some sort of giant explosion - perhaps to press our patron out of political power?

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Lileone takes a look at the map and she pales in alarm. "Oh, no," she says, clearly considering the implications of what she's looking at. "If he somehow damages the dome over the Glass Pit, it could flood with water. That much water hitting the forges could cause a huge steam explosion, there's no telling how many people could die!"

Her face takes on a determined look and says, "He must be stopped. Please, take your map and try to find these marked spots and see what you can learn. I'll try to get the city guard to assist as well. Once you get to the Glass Pit, you might be able to convince people in the neighborhood to help look also, since their lives and livelihoods may depend on it."

Lileone nods briskly as the Pathfinders swing into action, setting off to carry out her own task. After making their way through the busy streets of Vialesk, the party finds themselves at the first location marked on the map, right at the edge of the great dome that covers the Glass Pit.

Knowledge (engineering), Perception, or Swim check, DC 18:
You can see that a large number of the bolts that hold the frame of the dome together have been removed here, so that any significant shock would likely cause this portion of the dome to fail. Having found this bit of sabotage, you are able to repair it. Finding the damage and repairing it takes just under an hour.

If you’d like to try to convince the residents of the neighborhood of the Glass Pit to assist in looking for sabotage and repairing it, please make Diplomacy or Intimidate checks.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

The residents of the Glass Pit are impressed that a band of outsiders to Vialesk are rushing about to save their city, and they hurry to help at Seijiro's request. Kala and Seijiro work together, directing their companions, and the damaged section of the dome is quickly repaired. Lileone appears to have succeeded at her task as well, and city guardsmen can be seen rushing about and finding parts of the structure that do not look as they should.

There are seven more checks to make, any combination of Knowledge (engineering), Perception or Swim. Because the guard and the neighbors are helping, each of these takes 30 minutes rather than the normal hour.

Jax looks for things to fix.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Yeah, taking 10 is okay here. You wouldn’t normally know the DC, but you do since I spoilered it. I don’t know that there’s any particular fun to be had in making everyone roll a bunch of skill checks, so we’ll go with taking 10.

Following the marked map, earned through a tough fight with the sahuagin, Seijiro and Jax’s sharp senses lead the party to quickly spot the points of sabotage around the dome. With the help of the community and the guards, all eight weak spots on the dome are repaired. As they finish the work on the last location, the Pathfinders spot a fierce-eyed malenti, who matches Tsomo’s description, fleeing the scene! He dives smoothly into one of the waterways that run through Vialesk’s air-filled sector and moves rapidly away!

Special rules for this scene:

This scene functions in many ways like a normal chase, taking place over several cards that represent notable areas and resources within them, as represented in the chart in the Google doc. It differs from a traditional chase in three key ways. First, the distance between cards is abstract, and Tsomo’s position on the cards represents how close he is to escaping the PCs and not his actual position in the marketplace. Second, the PCs move as a group rather than as individuals. Finally, the actions on the cards represent opportunities for the PCs to create obstacles to slow down the malenti spy rather than obstacles that they must overcome to move through the market. The modified chase rules are presented below.

The PCs always move first, automatically advancing one card toward the docks. After they advance one card, they can attempt to delay Tsomo. During each phase of the chase, each PC can attempt a full round of actions to create obstacles. Each card will allow various checks (which I’ll tell you). The PCs can either attempt one of the suggested checks on the card, or they can use the aid another action to assist another PC. They can also come up with their own methods to slow Tsomo. The chase takes the PCs through crowded, watery areas, which might provide some additional difficulties. A PC who cannot breathe underwater takes a –2 penalty on checks during the chase. Furthermore, casting spells while weaving through the crowds is difficult, requiring a successful concentration check (DC = 10 + spell level).

New map is linked above, the party is the red dot. I’ll give everyone a moment to react and then we’ll get the chase started. Unfortunately, it has been exactly 8 hours since everyone stuck the bathysphere jellyfish on their heads, so they no longer provide the ability to breathe water.

I bought 2 bathysphere jellyfish, can I have used the second one by the start of the chase, since the first one has already run out? ... Also, I guess I don't quite understand the rules here... How can I affect him if he's that far ahead of us? I mean, can I use disable device on that bridge to slow him down even though I'm back before the sharks still?

if so, move action to put the jellyfish on and here's my roll for disable:

disable: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

otherwise, move action to put on jellyfish, then standard to move forward.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

If you think you would have applied it while traveling in the air-filled part of the city, then you have it on now. Last time everyone put them on when they had to go into water, so the more likely scenario might be that you put it on now, since you see you have to chase Tsomo in the water. That would mean taking a move action to put it on, now that the chase has begun. I'll leave it to you to decide which happens.

I'll give you some skill checks you can make for each card, so hold off on making checks for now. As the rules state (though not entirely clearly…), the number of cards ahead he is from the party is more of an abstraction. It doesn’t really describe a physical distance that you need to overcome. I expect there will be more issues and questions with these rather odd chase rules, so keep ‘em coming.

Tsomo attempts to dart between two halves of a movable bridge that has been raised to allow gondolas to pass through! The Pathfinders can force him to change his path by physically blocking his exit, or try to close the bridge and seal off his escape route, or run across the backs of a trio of passing tojanidas as platforms to move ahead and cut the off malenti!

The checks for those three options are Swim, Knowledge (engineering) or Acrobatics, respectively. You can also suggest something totally different that you’d like to try.

Seijiro tries to run across the backs of the tojanidas, but slips and splashes into the canal instead! Molos splashes in right behind him! Oddler's spell causes a gondolier to swing his long, slender oar at Tsomo, catching the malenti completely by surprise and throwing him off his stride!

As Frost nearly sinks to the bottom of the canal, Jax and Kala swim nimbly after Tsomo, blocking his path and slowing him further! He darts forward, but both the malenti and the party find their path impeded by an intelligent giant squid, who is carrying a jumble of bright parcels and leisurely perusing the market stalls. The Pathfinders can call out and ask the squid to grab Tsomo, force the squid to squirt ink at the malenti, or poke the squid in one of its massive eyes to make it drop its packages on top of Tsomo.

These approaches require Diplomacy, Knowledge (nature) or an attack roll. As always, other inventive approaches are welcomed.

I always appreciate a re-roll used in the pursuit of role-play!

Oddler's commanding tone takes the squid by surprise, and it flails its long hunting tentacles about, one of them grabbing hold of Tsomo for a moment. The startled squid is more than a little susceptible to Jax's clever ploy, and when he pokes it in right in the siphon, the giant cephalopod squirts ink all over, briefly blinding Tsomo as he tries to force his way through the crowded market! The squid's day does not get any better when Frost just manages to poke it in the eye. Pulling its arms up to its injured eye, the squid drops its packages in all directions, some of them landing right in the path of Tsomo as he wipes thick ink off his face and blunders on!

That's three successes, with Kala and Seijiro still up.

Is a malenti a humanoid or a monstrous humanoid?

if Humanoid:

Oddler takes several oddly calm steps forward.

She presents her holy symbol - an iron 5 pointed star adorned with rubies.

She takes a deep breath and in a booming almost unnatural bending of the air around her shouts at Yuko.

STAND STILL CRIMINAL. BY THE AUTHORITY VESTED INTO ME BY THE HELLKNIGHT ORDER OF THE GODCLAW YOU ARE UNDER ARREST FOR CONSPIRING TO COMMIT A TERRORIST ACT AND ON SUSPICION OF COMMITTING A SEPARATE TERRORIST ATTACK

Hold Person, reroll any die roll higher than like... let's a 7

If Malenti are Monstrous Humanoid:

Oddler sees the sharks as a clear and present danger to the party, so she begins to move towards Tsomo, but as she does she presents her five pointed iron star menacingly towards the shark.

And she DEMANDS they break each other.

Casting Murderous Command, Reroll any dice roll higher than a 10

Malenti are monstrous humanoids, so folks can make Knowledge (nature) checks if they fish wish.

Oddler - I assume you're casting your spell on the shark closest to you? Please try to give me save DC's when you cast - I've found this one on your sheet.

Will, DC 15: 1d20 ⇒ 12 Failed.
Will, DC 15: 1d20 ⇒ 13

The shark begins to twitch its snout back and forth, as if it smells blood in the water!

Molos pulls his wand of magic missiles and fires a blast at the enemy.

The party advances on Tsomo, who glares defiantly at them, smears of squid ink still on his face. Molos' missile strikes home, as Jax considers what he knows about their malenti foe. He's certain they don't have any special resistances to energy or weapon attacks, and has heard they can go into a blood frenzy, raging ferociously if hurt in a fight.
