Yep, thanks GM.

Oldmar keeps his feet in spite of the layer of slippery goo on the floor, and guts the Blackraven with his axe! Seeing his companion fall, the remaining warrior growls in frustration and tosses his axe to the floor. "I yield," he says, "and I hope we've killed all the damned goblins!"

The goblins lie on the floor, bloodied and cut, though they all appear to be breathing still.

Rokdor glares at the man, but decides her first priority is making sure her goblins survive. Waving her hand to dismiss the blue goo, the dwarf moves to the worst-looking goblin (as far as wounds go) and attempts to stop its bleeding.

Turns out goblin physiology differs from dwarven in some key ways...

Oldmar gives the man a powerful glare before barking back to the approaching Sobestian. "Sobe, hurry, I've got a wand but these goblins need it quick!"

To prove the point, he draws a pointy heal stick, ready to hand it off, before assisting Rokdor in trying to stop the bleeding.

As works fruitlessly for several long moments, Oldmar looks up at the remaining Blackraven. "Touch them again and you'll be worse off than them."

Don't feel bad... it's their silly goblin physiology. I mean c'mon, what kind of race doesn't have its primary arteries in the chin?

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

After checking the goblin’s injuries and applying a bit of healing magic, the Pathfinders are able to revive all of the prisoners they have escorted so far, having somehow kept them alive through the hazards of the northlands.

As the goblins rub their injuries and snarl at the one conscious Blackraven warrior, Astrid comes down the hall, her hands still tied and her head hung low. ”Damn,” she mutters, ”you’ve defeated us all.” She gives the party a direct look and says, ”We’re new to the organization, and were following Enrik’s orders, no more. But that doesn’t make his orders wrong. His family was killed by the monsters of Irrisen, like these Frostfur goblins you protect. When Freyr Darkwine gave orders to help you and see you and your prisoners safely on your way to Trollheim, Enrik told us of his family’s death in a winter wolf raid, and laid other plans for the goblins.” With a shake of her head, she moves into the storage room, saying, ”But you’ve brought those plans to an end, that’s sure.”

She holds up her bound hands to the other Blackraven in the room, and the warrior unties Astrid. The chaplain of Gorum kneels by the fallen warrior and lays a hand on the grievous wound given him by Oldmar. Looking up, she says, ”You should be on your way. I will heal our wounded, and I am sure they would rather not see you here, least of all Enrik.”

Healing the gobbers:

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

It will take 7 CLW uses to get the goblins in good enough shape to travel. Allocate them however you wish across wands or spells you've got.

Hakotep responds, "Wrongdoing by some members of the race does not condemn them all and you nearly destroyed our mission through your racism! We will be on our way now, thank you very much!"

This is Hakotep's first scenario so he doesn't have a wand to offer yet.

I can eat the charges if need be. Does anyone else have a wand yet?

Without a word, Oldmar searches the fallen Blackraven for a set of keys, then shuts and locks the storage room door. Calling back through, he says, "We'll be taking Enrik with us to the Castellan. You will pay for your crimes. There's plenty of food in there and I am sure someone will be by before long to get you. Run if you wish, I don't care."

Taking out his rope, he lashes Enrik tightly and slings him over his shoulder. "Right then, let's get going."

To the Castellan! After we drop off the goblins, of course.

Rokdor doesn't have a wand yet.

Rokdor nods once in satisfaction as Oldmar shuts the evildoers in the storage room. "Now that's how dwarves deal with things," she adds.

Let us away!

Sobestian has a wand. I have no problem using 7 charges. Otherwise, will use 4.

Sobestian nods, only half listening. "Dear me, that was unpleasant. Sorry again, for stabbing you. I don't know what came over me." Bowing, he follows after his companions, striking up conversations with goblins.

DM | Map Stuff | Burden of Envy

Astrid cries out in alarm as the door is slammed, but quiets down quickly enough. Though it will take some effort, it’s clear she and the other Blackravens will be able to chop through the door with the men’s axes and get out eventually. Enrik lies badly wounded on the floor, just barely conscious – Astrid must have healed him a little before coming to the aid of the others. On seeing all four of the goblins still alive, he begins to curse them and the Pathfinders, ”Damn your souls, for keeping me from avenging my family on those monsters! The spawn of Irrisen deserve to die, not be protected! Darkwine’s as bad as you lot, telling me to keep goblins safe, after the fate my family suffered at their little green gobber hands!” He spits forcefully on the floor, though even the effort of that seems to cost him greatly in his wounded state, ”That for Freyr Darkwine, his goblin-loving ways, and you lot!”

The goblins all grin broadly and begin to laugh and point at the man, enraging him further. Shankerol’s laugh is a quiet one, and his eyes have a ghastly gleam to them – it’s hard to tell if he’s imagining the scene when Enrik’s family was killed, or if he’s dreaming of doing the same to Enrik. In any case, he likes whatever mental pictures he’s seeing. Mikrik spits on the floor in imitation of Enrik, crying out, ”That for Dockwide! That for goblin-robbing days!” Griggriggwin gives Mikrik a clout on the ear, shouting ”He say ‘goblin-rubbing, not goblin-robbing! No one rob goblins!”

Once Enrik’s hands are tied securely, he understands he’s being brought to Trollheim to face his commander, but he stands by the view that what he did was right, willing to face his fate bravely. The goblins nearly drive the man mad on the half-day journey to Trollheim, spitting and misquoting him more and more, until Bateer can be heard expectorating voluminously and saying, ”Bats for fear of backside! Six goblin-hogging jays! And stew pot!” and the other goblins can barely walk for their insane laughter.

Aside from the nuisance of the goblins, no other threats present themselves after Enrik’s betrayal, and the party is able to deliver their captives to the extraction team just outside the heavily walled and densely populated city of Trollheim. The goblins’ laughter dies down as they understand what is happening. Though they never became anything like friends to the party, they did find Sobestian’s stories worth a listen, and the Pathfinders did save their lives on several occasions during the journey. It’s far from a tearful goodbye, but the goblins do give a last worried look over their shoulders before they’re hustled away.

When the Blackraven guards at Trollheim understand what Enrik has done, word is quickly passed to the castellan, Freyr Darkwine. Soon after, the party is granted an audience with the man, the powerful leader of the Blackraven organization. He listens to the account of Enrik’s actions, both men silent and grim through the telling of it, even Sobestian’s efforts to liven things up falling flat. When the tale is done, Darkwine is silent a long moment, his thick mustache twitching slightly as he thinks. ”Somehow it always seems to play this way,” he says when he does speak, ”I do the Society a favor, and it costs me. Perhaps I merely expected too much of my embattled people, in asking them to protect those creatures who on any other day would be their sworn foes. Nevertheless, I will see that Enrik Ironjaw faces justice and is duly punished, for disobeying orders. But I do wonder if these goblin secrets are really worth good men facing the lash.”

With a dismissive wave of his hand, he says, ”But those are my concerns, not yours, Pathfinders. Your work here is done, go back to the warmth of Absalom and leave me to mine.”

That’s it, folks! Thanks for playing! I’ll come up with another scenario to play, and may delay starting it a bit so a friend (who played Library of the Lion with some of us a while back) can join in as well. I’ll keep you posted!
