For a city founded upon bloody combat traditions, Tymon is surprisingly docile. Weapons are invariably peace-bonded, there is a lack of muscle-flexing machismo in the streets—even public disputes are scarcer than in comparably large settlements. Rule of law here is strong, perhaps, or else violent urges are simply sated vicariously through the famed Arena of Aroden.

Whatever the cause, little impedes the swift journey to Smine’s Weaponworks, locally famous as a place of business but secretly also a Pathfinder lodge. The sound of ringing steel and the withering heat of the forge through an open sliding door identify the stone structure as readily as its well-painted but soot-stained sign. Several apprentices work blades in various stages of completion, and at the largest work area toils a smiling dwarf: famed weaponsmith and venture-captain Holgarin Smine. He glances up under singed eyebrows, never missing a beat as he says, “Ah. It’s you. A moment.” After putting some final touches on a spearhead, quenching it in water, and nodding approvingly after a brief appraisal, he unties his apron and opens the door into the adjoining building.

Within a few minutes, Smine has set out refreshments such as bread and cheese in a much cooler kitchen. “Forgive me for not asking about your journey. Love the details, but those can wait. Someone’s picking a fight—with us,” he divulges in broken sentences reminiscent of the staccato clanging of the adjacent forge. “You might know we’re committed to supporting Mendev. Important business, that. Worldwound expanding, wardstones failing. Not good for anyone. So when we send supplies north and they’re stolen, it gets our attention. And that’s been happening. Months now. Boat after boat heading up the Sellen, attacked, looted—always a few days out of Tymon. Now, River Kingdoms shipping isn’t always chancy; brigands on the water are nothing new. Not like this, though. And it isn’t all shipping. Just ours. Someone is targeting us.

“It’s my job to get to the bottom of this, and I have a notion how. Been told you lot were just what I needed. So here’s what’s going to happen. We’re not just going to find these pirates; we’re going to flush ’em out. They want to hit Pathfinders? Pathfinders can hit, too. They’ll think they’ve got another soft supply boat, but the cargo will be you. Ready to fight.” He grins before concluding, “You’re bait. But you’re bait that bites back.”

The golden haired Ulfen laughs, "Imagine the faces when the fish find they have been baited...with sharks" his voice has a hearty timber and fills the room, a ghostly white lion with a silvery mane equally makes a strange noise - as though coughing up a hairball. After a few moments, the humour passes.

"Who do you suspect is behind this? Opportunists looking for weapons, or some dirty demon kisser stopping weapons from getting into the hands of those looking to get red handed to the elbows in fiendish gore?"

"Oh, and if we catch any fish, you want 'em thrown in the river, or you want the catch brought home?" he offers, clearly alluding to the potential fate of any attackers.

The little halfling almost jumps to her feet. "Someone targeting us? I'll never stand for it! We will stop these marauders, rest assured. My team and I will find out who's behind it and get the supply line back open. "

She was quite the little bundle of energy, with several wicked looking kukri poking out from different points of her attire. She had introduced herself on the trip there as Shel.

"Little blades for little wounds, but even the biggest wineskin will empty out of you stick enough needles in it" he wanders over and strokes the lions mane like a big brother comforting a smaller sibling "Misfortune here agrees with you, he also looks forward to flushing out any rats, and all this talk of fish and bait has left him hungry"

With you was a very fat human sweating constantly. He weight nearly two hundred pounds for barely more than 5'3 feet high. The bold man is tattooed everywhere with varisian style tattoos, his black pigseyes driven by a cruel glow. His complexion is pale, almost greenish and its teeth are particularly sharp and when he smiles, two of its canines unfolds. He seems embarrassed by the light and protects himself from it by a large hood. He is dressed in an ostentatious way, his large and greasy hands adorns expensive rings of the worst taste. His dresses are detailed and from high quality (but also of the worst taste). Around his neck, he wears a stylized key and some sort of a seven branched star as an amulet.
His has a pretty bad reputation in the society as a merchant. Nevertheless the man has a true presence, troubling and intimidating.

Greeting everyone ! To those I have not the pleasure to already meet, I'm Tolgarov ! If you need anything I have certainly a cousin somewhere who could provide it to you !
As for the mission, my teeth are sharp enough to bite these thiefs who don't like to do business.
Do we already have a caravan, or boat to do the bait or do we need one ?
And to weight the golden ulfen question, do we need them in Ashes or in one piece ?

We don't know exactly who is behind this. That's what you're supposed to figure out: find their base location, take out their operation. Bring back to me anything you figure out along the way: who is hiring them, why they are harassing us.

I'm hiring a boat, I'll get word to you shortly which one. You'll get crew to sail it too - I have a couple of contacts. You just have to fight.

I’ve put out word there’s a major shipment headed upriver. Should get their attention. You can help with that too. Make yourselves look soft. Hit the taverns. Look like landlubbers. Probably are, anyway, so it shouldn’t be difficult. Drink hard, and look like you’re shipping out hung-over. Spread a good cover story. Make them overconfident.

There's some time to prepare in Tymon (see the map linked above). Ask your questions to the VC, or use K(local) or Dip(GI) to hear the latest gossip. The plan is to leave tomorrow morning, so you'll also have time to visit local taverns tonight - you might even want to spread some rumours.

It doesn't take long to work out that a heavily armed Ulfen raider and his lion don't support the 'soft target' suggestion, and decide that being semi-absent is a more astute approach.

Grim just returns to being his namesake, shirking off questions from strangers with cold stares and a frigid demeanor.

The city is an open book to the adventurers, and it doesn't take a lot of asking around for either Shel, Rydderich of Kyra to figure out the following interesting facts:

Tymon is founded on a tradition gladiatorial combat, most famously in the city’s Arena of Aroden, where gladiators have vied for popular acclaim for over 2,000 years.

Tymon’s ruling class is composed entirely of experienced gladiators who earned their status after winning 10 arena combats. Called “bloodied,” these gladiators have rights and privileges beyond any common Tymons. They alone are allowed to own property or bear weapons, and their word carries greater weight in court, almost placing them above the law. Tymon’s ruler, called the Champion, earns his place through combat as well.

In spite of the privileges of the “bloodied,” specialized laws grant some equity to others. The Law of Grievance allows anyone to challenge someone who has wronged him to arena combat. This carries across social ranks; if challenged by a commoner, even one of the “bloodied” must submit. Even the Champion’s position is not secure; through the Law of Succession, any “bloodied” can challenge him for leadership.

| AbadarCorp Entertainment Official GM | How is my flying? | DICEBOT LOVES YOU |Starship combat cheat sheet | STEAL THIS TEMPLATE | Traveling until Jan 3, reduced posting frequency expected

One of the taverns recommended by Smine is the Flooded Sands, a bar popular among riverboat crew. The Flooded Sands is a true Tymon bar with wall frescoes depicting nautical arena tourneys. Bar regulars can easily point out ships crewed by legendary gladiators battling each other or imported sea monsters.

Greeting to all, I am Ezren a wizard of some reputation within the Pathfinders. I will be happy to provide more magic support to this adventure. You will have to count me out for this evening of drinking and revelry as i need to be well rested in order to use my arcane powers.

Ezren looking like and older Traveling merchant will meet the party in the morning just before departure.

The droning of frogs, insects, and birds along the riverbanks creates an atmosphere fit for dozing, even though the sun is barely past noon. Directly ahead, the river twists to the east for a bit before rounding a forested hummock. A splash breaks the monotony of sound as something slides off the marshy banks and into the water.

Shel and Grim are on deck.

The boat moves in combat rounds, 20 feet per round. Anyone can post moves for the boat, and I'll abstain from rolling init for now. Just post actions and don't worry too much about order, but do keep the length of your actions to round-type length.

Perception, DC 15:

That's the sounds of an alligator moving into the water

I am staying awake during the day and sleeping at night. So I would be awake too. Maybe praying downstairs? Can I roll a perception?

Shel manages to get down and wake Cedric. Kyra, already awake, is alerted as well. Grim stays on the lookout and, as Shel emerges, sees a sort of floating raft move downstream.

The Terrapin keeps moving slowly upstream. There are seven men on the ship: three of them seem to be busy piloting the thing, another three stand ready with longbows, while a seventh seems to be casting a spell. The alligator is moving in the water, towards the enemy boat.

GM rolls:

Init Cedric: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Init Kyra: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11 Could you put your stats in your header, please?
Init Shel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Init Grim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Init Rhyd: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Init Tolgarov: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Init Boat types: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Init Caster: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

For the record, APL is five, so we play at high tier

Tolgarov, Shel and Grim can act before the men on the boat

Grim and Misfortune move into what cover they can find, grim taking a knee as he draws his bow and racks off a shot at the caster.

Attack 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Misfortune roars in warning... And makes a lot of noise.
