Correct. I posted the other pirates actions, now it's first come first serve for the PC's before the dwarf. Then he goes, then you.
In a "normal" combat, I would say you could post your anticipated action and just keep it vague enough to allow for easy adjustment by me when your turn comes up. In this particular case though I'd suggest you wait since this is such an unusual combat and who knows where it will go.

Yeah, I was hoping for a little hooliganism. Actually, what I was picturing was a "Roadhouse" style barroom brawl. You know, shove guy A into guy B, and then for no reason guy C turns and punches guy D, while guy B grabs guy A and drags him down the bar. Then the hot chick smashes a bottle over guy C's head, and so on, and so forth.
Didn't really come together as I'd hoped. :-p

Probably a sense motive check. My guess, though, is that all the regular crew are indifferent. There are probably a few of the officer's toadies that are hostile, like Narwhal. Sandara was probably the only one that's instantly friendly/helpful. With the intimidate/bluff = diplomacy thing, everyone can interact. And now that you've been called out in front of the crew, you don't have to feel bad about using intimidate to make them "friends"! =)

Actually, it's worth clearing up. If there's somewhere we can safely discuss the situation amongst ourselves, that would be good to know. There's a lot Tully doesn't know about (giant man in the hold, Rosie Cusswell) that I wish he did know. I'll never be super-effective at searching the ship with my big -1 to perception.
DM Jonasty |
Posting from my phone so I haven't read the game thread yet. Tully is correct though. The entire crew is in one chamber, you guys don't have true privacy. You can huddle together and talk softly but that will draw attention of its own.
I'm working on the map situation and should have a ship map up soon, sorry for the confusion.
DM Jonasty |
Callum/All: I will read the game thread posts with the understanding of what you thought the situation was. I won't overly penalize you for a lack of description on my part.
Calvin: I've grabbed Maptool and have been experimenting with that. Actually the big hurdle for me isn't Maptool completely (although it has been a learning curve) but rather scanning the maps in the first place. My scanner at home isn't up and running at the moment. Actually found a pretty good program on my iPhone so I'm working with that. I'll have a ship map up soon is my hope.
DM Jonasty |
Alright, the Campaign Info tab has been updated with the ship info, including a map. Sorry it took so long to get that up. Not as good as if I had bought the pdf of the book, but a readable scan overall. Using Googledocs for the storage, in case people have any issues.
Now to get to the game thread and see what happened. :-)
DM Jonasty |
The Campaign Info tab has been updated based on Callum's request regarding crew info and you guys having plenty of time to suss things out in the crew quarters. Also, I put an asterix (*) next to the names of the officers who are "immune" to the Influence Ship action. Just to save time so you don't try to choose them as a target and then have me ask you to pick someone else. There are a couple that you can, Grok and Kroop being some of the exceptions, but for the most part the officers are too far above your station to give a crap about what you might have to say.
Calvin The Surgeon |
Whoa. If an 18 is enough to lower someone's opinion of us, Calvin better not talk to anyone! Unfortunately, Calvin doesn't have this knowledge. So it may only be a matter of time until the whole crew is hostile against us.
DM Jonasty |
Yep. Diplomacy (or Influence in general with the way the AP is setup) is easier the more the person already likes you. Once you've made an NPC Helpful (the highest), at that point mechanically you're pretty much all set. I will say this though, I will of course adjust NPC attitudes based on roleplaying as appropriate. This is why you may get a bonus to your check if your RP is suitably impressive.
Callum Carnvegas |
Sorry 'bout the lateness. Couldn't get in my response before work this morning and then I accidentally hit the "back" key while typing my entry, so had to re-type it.
And yikes, I hope Rosie is a very uncharismatic bard. Hate to see the work done on her dashed with my rolls.
And it looks like I'll be taking the whip tomorrow too. Yay!
Young Tully |
DM: Just out of curiosity (because I was confused why Callum was trying to influence Rosie, until I looked it up on the NPC tab), I went back to re-read Xanxan's influence action:
Your roll wasn't all that great BUT because you brought Rosie her fiddle back you have made Helpful, permanently. The gnome stuff was flavor, you don't learn any more about him from this action.
It does say "Friendly" on the Campaign Info NPC tab. Just wondering about that...?
DM Jonasty |
Tully/Callum: The Campaign Tab was incorrect, I should have updated it but lost track. Rosie is Helpful currently. After Callum's post, maybe not so much. ;-)
But seriously, she's helpful so I won't penalize Callum for my slip. Callum, unless you have a problem with it, I will just randomize your Diplomacy attempt against one of the other crew. It's not a good check no matter what so it'll stink regardless but it does make more sense than harassing one of the only other helpful NPC's on the ship. You ok with that? If not, feel free to update your post as you see fit.
Callum Carnvegas |
Ahh, good catch Tully. I was also playing off of the fact that she wasn't being particularly "friendly" (or "helpful" in this instance) at the time which kind of ticked Callum off. Both Sandara and Grok have done things that were quite helpful, Rosie, not so much, lol.
Of course even if Rosie were just friendly, she'd have been more of a low-hanging fruit that would be difficult to shift to indifferent without an extremely low roll and a high charisma.
Hmm, yeah, lol, I like Tully's idea. Let's move it to Narwhal. Start another brawl, since there seems to be no consequences for them.
DM Jonasty |
A note on my last post. Friendly and Helpful NPC's will provide aid to the PC's during this adventure, one of which is help with daily jobs that the NPC is trained in. This benefit isn't relegated to specific PC's, any of you are eligible when I provide this, but I am trying to favor some of the RP elements that have developed based on your posts. I'm saying this to make sure you don't think that Xanxan and Callum are the only ones who will benefit and the rest of you need to make your own friends. It just happens to fit with what their jobs are for Day 5 and the RP that's already happened.
Of course as you make more friends, you all will have more opportunities to receive help.
(Also, this should have been happening earlier given when you converted some of the NPC's, a slip on my part that I apologize for. Better late than never eh.)
Xanxan Gimblewabe |
Ah, don't worry about the slip too much. That's a lot of NPCs to keep track of. I reserve my resentment for that little electronic D6 that's condemning Xanxan to the bilges ;)
Hopefully he'll actually get a chance to talk to other NPCs tonight and sway one. Rosie has been his biggest victory in that regard. Clearly, bilgerats are natural lady's mans ;)

I expect you to ride forth from the bilges tonight upon a noble steed, aka a domesticated dire rat that survived the earlier battle. Rosie shall swoon and Plugg shall curse your name, knowing that he is only making you stronger from the work down below!
And curse those darn d8s while we're at it. I want something more than average at least once!
