Well, you'll get one per 8hrs of rest. If we had someone do a long-term care on you we can double that. (DC 15 Heal check) but that will require 8 hours of that person not sleeping.


Mortimer is correct, currently after the normal 8hrs night's rest you're down by 2 pts of Dex.

Gathering the other items, Randu rubs at his joints. It is at least, getting better.


Getting the gear secured about yourselves, you finish your food and head out from Kendra's home. The sky overhead is dark gray and cloudy, as it's been since you arrived. Getting ready to head up to the prison, you quickly notice a commotion brewing towards town. Giving in to your curriosity you move towards them.

Following some of the villagers, who give you nods of greeting for a change, you make your way towards the memorial near the river. Gathered around the statue, people are talking quietly amongst themselves and pointing to the base of the statue. Scrawled there again in blood is another large letter, this time an E. There's blood splattered across the ground and on the statue itself as well.

It's easy to tell again that the blood seems to be from an animal and except for the freshness and the gathered crowd, it's exactly what you saw a few days ago.

Randu politely nods back to those villagers, smiling towards some. The smile fades as the cause for the commotion comes to light. He doesn't touch the blood, but he does look at it.

"I swear, it's almost like some sort of challenge." He whispers to the others.

My dear ladies and gentlemen! Please stand back! It is important that we do not corrupt the evidence of the scene!

Ilya will examine the blood and the surrounding area to see if there is any clue or sign of the perpetrator.

Mortimer joins Ilya in investigating the scene, checking the surroundings for any evidence the perpetrator may have left.

"What are you thinking Ilya?"[b] he asks as they search. [b]"If we have someone reenacting some kind of old crime, we may need to canvas the community or speak to the Sheriff."

Vharg shuffles around the site. With a mixture of curiosity and trepidation he leans in and sniffs the blood and then casts an eye towards the monument. Slowly moving around the gruesome spectacle he nervously keeps one hand clenched onto his black stone talisman while whispering catechisms against evil.

Alexei turns his analytical mind to the scene. Do you think this is a reenactment...or more disturbing...perhaps it is the work of the splatterman himself from beyond the grave? I cannot think it a coincidence that the Professor is killed in the Prison and then these marking begin appearing. It is only conjecture at this point obviously.

"Desna's fortune on your eyes, Vharg." Randu says, before answering Alexei, "Clearly whoever is doing this wants some notoriety but they aren't leaving a complete boast or message. It maybe a puzzle to be solved, but it's also a glove in the face. The question is, is it one directed specifically at us or for any and all comers? Perhaps it is the Splatterman, or maybe it is a living admirer."

Much the same as you, my friend. Either we have a copycat, who wishes to revive the legacy of the Splatter Man. Or much more frighteningly, the restless spirit of this Splatter Man has left the confines of Harrowstone, and threatens the good folk of this town!

"We have not seen any direct evidence of ghostly activity yet. I hesitate to leap to that conclusion without first-hand knowledge. Do any of you have the ability to detect undead influence after it has passed?" he says. "Regardless, I think if we are to find any unequivocal evidence of that, we need to go to the prison itself. As for the more mundane possibilities I think we can get some more information from the Sheriff and the other townsfolk. What do you think needs doing first?"

"Normally I'd say split up and let one group do one while another does the other, but this has already proven to be TOO dangerous. So,whatever we do, I suggest we stick together for now."

"I shall not be long," warns Perrah. She looks up the young man in charge of the town register and asks him for details of anyone who's name begins with VE.

So what we wait for? Rumbles Vharg, looking around the statue. "Anyone find tracks, or things out of place? If not, Vharg is ready to leave for prison again.

Mortimer frowns as Perrah rushes off. "I doubt there's anyone in town named 'Veb', so I suspect we have some time to unravel the mystery." he grumbles. He waits, however, for Perrah to return.


Searching around the area, you unfortunately don't learn too much more than you already knew due to all the villagers having obscured the area in question. You are able to determine that the writing does, at least preliminarily, seem to be from the same source or writer. You'd need to see more examples to confirm that fully though. Also the blood is from an animal again, although this time it must be something larger like a fox to account for all the blood this time around.

Perrah returns after a few minutes and gives a slight nod of her head. There are only two people in the town whose name start with VE. One, a man named Ventalas, left for business in Brevoy over a month ago and the other is a small child named Veslan of about 4 years of age.

Alright everyone we're back. My new job has started to balance out and I should be back on the boards with a more regular appearance now.

Ilya, regarding the level 2 question you're still a little ways off but I have the feeling that visiting the prison might help change that. ;-)

After survaying the area around the statue Vharg gives a snort of disgust. These pink-skin village chattel know nothing of the hunt and kill spitting into the muddy ground Vharg rolls his neck with a large *crack* "Nothing more here. Vharg going to prison. Who come with?" As the rain begins a slow drizzle he begins to trek to Harrowstone.

Sounding a little lost, Perrah follows, "I thought that made sense but .. Veslan is too young and ....?"

Randu stretches as Vharg speaks up, "Oh, I'll come with you then. As I said, I think we should stick together."

Perhaps "V" stands for Vharg and "E" stands for Ilya... and our mystery perpetrator is simply a bad speller...! No? Ah, well. The domains of restless dead and cabals of necromancers are attractions one does not see on every tour of the countryside.

If we are going today, best we do it before the sun gets too high in the sky.

Alexei brightens when Vharg mentions the prison. Excellent! The place is simply fascinating and we were not able to spend nearly enough time there. He follows along chattering non-stop about a myriad of topics...most of them so filled with technical jargon that it is almost as if he is speaking a different language than the common tongue.

Nodding and settling his gear, he turns and starts out on the path back to the prison. "Let's get to the bottom of this." he says. He follows some of what Alexei is talking about and contibutes to the conversation at times, but even he is left in the dust often enough that he lets Alexei do most of the talking.


The rain continues as a light drizzle as you make your way up the winding path and back into the Harrowstone grounds. The sense of dread and forboding washes over you again as you pass through the gates. If anything the weather only adds to the effect. Staring up at the ruined structure you can feel an almost palpable sense of evil wash out from the place. Bracing yourselves, you make your way towards the structure.

Alright, so what's the general marching order gonna be? Also, how will you be entering the prison?

Guisarme clenched in his meaty fists, Vharg drudges though the front gate of Harrowstone. Occasionally he reaches up to clutch the jet black stone suspended around his neck, mumbling catechesis under his breath. Though the rain he strides forward into the forsaken prison.

I think that Vharg would either want to lead, or follow right beside Mortimer. That way he wouldn't upset any tracks that might be found, and anyone trying to charge past him would elicit an attack from his reach.

Alexei walks calmly occasionally fiddling with the multitude of vials he has all over his person.

Alexei would probably be right behind Vharg and Mortimer.

Ilya drifts to the back of the group, shaking his head at the bold audacity of his friends. Best I try to keep eyes on all of them, as much as possible...

Ilya will drop to last in line.

Randu stays near the front or side of the group, eyes peeled.

Lot depends on if Mort wants the lead to track or not, if not, Randu can offer to scout ahead.

Mortimer eyes the entrance to the prison and thinks for a moment before slinging his crossbow and fixing his buckler to his left arm. He leaves the right empty for now as he moves up alongside Vharg, his gaze intent upon the ground ahead. "We're going to need some light up here." he says.


Moving fearlessly, Vharg opens the main door to Harrowstone prison. Stepping inside the door you can see this front room was once a wide hall flanked by a pair of alcoves where people could wait but which now lies in ruins. With little left to hold up the ceiling, the wooden beams above sag dramatically scraping the top of the half-orc's guisarme. The wall directly ahead of you (to the North) contains a large pair of oaken doors.

It's clear to everyone that the balcony above you is unstable. You don't have any risk of disturbing it from down here but if you end up on the balcony above at some point, you know it will be dangerous.

What's the next step?

"One moment Vharg." Mortimer says, holding up a hand to indicate a halt. Mortimer steps cautiously and crouches down to examine the floor just ahead of Vharg.

You're unable to find any tracks amongst the debris and dust, at least none that give you any indication as to their age or maker.

" Hmm. Nothing good here. Let's proceed, but slowly and keep your eyes an ears open." Mortimer says as he straightens up and nods to Vharg to proceed, staying half a step behind the Half-Orc.

"Caution is fine by me. I've had enough of things nearly collapsing on me," Randu says airily but he keeps as close to Mortimer as he can, using his own skills

Alexei looks around with interest, continually muttering to himself. You hear snatches of things in various languages dealing with "equations" and "sulfuric content" and other even more incomprehensible things.

Cautiously Vharg opens the next set of double doors ahead of him, keeping one hand on his Giusarme at all times. Quietly he peers into the room, looking for any hazards or threats.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24


Unable to find any tracks and with Randu signaling the all clear on traps, Vharg opens the door. Weak gray light spills into the next room which appears to be another foyer. Streaks of mold stain the walls in this room and the floor underneath your feet is coated in a thick gray carpet of fungal growth. Sturdy wooden doors beckon from almost every wall.

Please let me know how you're dealing with light sources. Currently the room is filled with dim light from S1 coming in through the open door, with darkness in the side part to the left on the map. Unless a room has a window or open door to the outside, it will be pitch black in the prison, so I need to know how people are gonna deal with that.

Please note that the blue lines are just my grid for spaces. The map in the module is presented with a scale of 10ft squares, so I chopped it up into the standard 5-foot spaces to avoid confusion.

Vharg also has Darkvison so the dim lighting doesn't hammer him. Cautiously Vharg will move towards the door on the bottom right. Randu, you check door?


Dancing Lights can be assumed to be cast every minute by Perrah as needed for those without darkvision. I'll update from here once I know what you guys are doing next.

Mortimer steps to the space just north of the south-west door and peers around the corner through the bars by the flickering glow of Perrah's orbs of light.

He nods to Randu. "Have a look, Randu, then if there's nothing dangerous, step back so Vharg can open it."

Assuming its safe Quietly reaching up with one meaty hand Vharg tries opening the door, ready to snap his Guisarme up at a moments notice.

Sorry, been a bit distracted by personal and family matters in RL and it is slowing me down.

Randu carefully runs fingers near the door, eyes ready for any trap.

Perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 +1 for traps


Randu gives a silent nod at the door and Vharg begins to swing it open into a some kind of hallway. Before the door is even half way open, the handle suddenly rips out of his meety fist and the door slams with a loud bang in his face. The open door leading out to the front entry suddenly slams shut as well and if not for Perrah's dancing lights, the room would be plunged into darkness.

Before the echoing slam even finishes sounding, a loud moan erupts as suddenly spectral heads burst out from each door. The faces are all horribly burned, the smell of charred flesh filling the air as they circle above your heads. It only lasts for a few seconds before the heads disappear back into the doors.

With a yell, his totem swinging about his neck, Vharg grasps the handle again and tugs on it furiously. Despite his massive bulk, the door doesn't budge an inch, the handle not even turning in his hand.

Snorting and wild eyed like a bull who has just seen red Vharg whips his head around the room clutching his Guisarme and fighting to keep his fear in check. Bad! Very Very Bad! Vharg yells while readying his weapon to lash out at the next skull that appears.
