So everyone is free to read the general rules on haunts on pfsrd, although please avoid the specific haunt descriptions, but the general rules on what the info means is fine.
I bring this up to mention that haunts have HP totals as one component, which Mortimer's identified in previous instances. Based on his "briefing" of haunt mechanics, you know that haunts can generally only be harmed by effects that deal positive energy damage, such as Channel energy. Thus why Randu's bolt failed to do anything. Also helps elaborate on how the haunt siphons work. Some haunts have specific other things that can harm them but these are case by case basis things that need to be discovered for the individual haunt.
I'll consider it a learning experience for Randu. :)

Question: I read the article, and it specifically stated positive energy like channels and cure spells would work. Would you allow a potion of cure light wounds to work in the same way against it?
Yeah, I'd say you could use it like a grenade style weapon. It'll follow all the normal grenade weapon and splash stuff rules.

Does anyone else think that maybe discretion is the better part of valor, here? This thing could 1-hit kill any of us. Let's just flee. It probably can't follow. We need to hit level 2, at least, before we tangle with this kind of haunt.
We have three cure moderate wounds bombs. Perrah is fire resistant too. She wants to take the risk.

We need to make sure that we keep you stocked with cure bombs. Even if it takes us spending some gold on additional potions, it could be the difference between life and death. Right now you and Ilya are our heavy hitters.
Yeah I put alot of effort into making Perrah good at burning hands then the DM gives us flaming skulls and a furnace. Go figure.
I'm sure it will prove useful eventually. Some roles tend to shine more then others depending on the situation, what about Distrupt Undead? Despite it only being 1d6 damage vs undead it might be usable vs. haunts as it is specifically stated as doing positive energy. Also since it is a 0lv spell you could use it all day long.

Vharg that is one of Perrah's main stays for this adventure. Disrupt Undead I have used it once already but missed. Hopefully she hits next time.
Just as a heads up, my Grandfather passed away this morning. I'm doing ok as it was a bit of a drawn out process and he was suffering a bit so though I am sad to see him go, I am glad that he isn't in pain any more. As a result though I will be hit and miss over the next few days as I find out what I need to do. Thanks for your understanding everyone. You all are really good people.

Thanks everyone. I'm back now and things went as well as could be expected.
On a side note, while I'm loathe to give myself any more of a fight in the competition I would recommend any of you that aren't planning on it to submit an entry for this year's RPG Superstar. It's an amazing opportunity that you'd be crazy to pass up. And even though I haven't made it into the brackets in the past myself, I do know that just the attempts have made me a better DM for it. So just my two cents but the worst that can happen is you came up with an item all your own.
I agree DMJ, right now I have a list of about 5 item concepts I have rejected for one reason or an other. This will be my 4th year trying and I think my submissions get better each time. Like you said, if nothing else it's good practice.
I took part in the first with a now infamous "magical coin" item. It does seem a worthy test and in all honesty I think that successful item/monster/archetype/etc design requires the kind of creativity, time and effort that I do not possess. Yet.
But for those that do make the grade I say kudos to them (and you) for all that hard work!

As a heads up, obviously with all the holidays coming up things might get a little wonky around here with posting. This is ok and to be expected. If you're able to give us notice that'd be great but I'm not going to assume anyone has dropped the game during this time if their posting is a bit lax. I just ask that everyone be patient with everyone else and we'll work through it.
This being the case, starting the middle of next week (12/20) I'm on vacation from work until the end of the year. I'm not actually going anywhere, being nice and lazy with the wife at home. But as I may have mentioned already, I do the bulk of my regular posting at work so there's the chance that my posting frequency will be a little off for a while. That was already why I was a little slow in updating at the beginning of this week, I was off Mon and Tues. Updates will still happen, they just might not be every hour or so like they are when I'm working lol.

Hey all. Just a heads up, I'm back at work but am fighting off the last sludge of a head cold I got on Christmas. Specifically the coughing, which is making my life miserable and killing my sleep.
