Scarab Sages

Heh. You're wrong. A metaphor can't go over his head. his reflexes are too fast, he would...catch it. ;-D

Sovereign Court

Ouch.

Sovereign Court

Ok, I'm gonna go for something with some slight offbeatness and some traditional roles mixed together. I've decided to run with:

Deko Dekoson (half-orc brawler [tavern brawler])
Bataleigha Silvercrest (human cleric of Pelor)
Enoby Illith'vi (drow bard [arrowsong minstrel])
Kyrie the Remorseless (human wizard)
Zinnath the Scary (pseudodragon sorcerer [elemental])
Fezzik (half-ogre fighter)

Your front line will probably chew through just about everything with extreme prejudice -- assuming there's enough room to get past Fezzik.

Kyrie and Bataleigha will likey be on duty for "talking to normal people and convincing them not to freak out."

Enoby is your skills character (the only one who applied) so... good luck with traps I guess?

Zinnath is the comic relief. I mean elemental blaster.

I will make the Discussion thread now so we can sort out how you are all working together, like crazy people!

"Zinnath is the comic relief of the scary kind! Rawrrr!"

Great, thanks for the chance to play. I'll create my alias later today and check in.

Hey folks! After several setbacks and the board outage, this group is looking for two new players to join.

This is a Pathfinderized version of the original Temple of Elemental Evil module. We've gone through a variety of party members; at present our remaining roster consists of:

Human cleric of Pelor
Half-ogre fighter
Feytouched bard/druid/rogue

The group is level 3 and we're looking for two additions to join us!

See the beginning of the recruitment thread for a link to the special rules and material to make a character suited to the World of Greyhawk campaign setting.

Ideally we would like an arcanist, and we could probably have a wildcard of any type besides that.

This is a casually-paced game. From time to time I'll be out camping for a weekend, or will have overtime at work, so our usual updates are every 2-3 days.

dotting, likely to come up with something....

I'll take a crack at some kind of arcanist, after I review this Greyhawk material.

Maybe I should crack open my old 3.5 books for class ideas.

I’m interested! I’ll put together some kind of arcane magic-user type tonight.

I should note when I say "arcanist" I mean someone who can cover arcane magic needs, not specifically a member of the arcanist class. :)

We're currently 3rd level, 20 point buy, 2 traits, 3000 gp wealth by level, background skills.

Hi DM, this is eriktd. I've put this character together for your consideration; everything is in the alias's profile but briefly speaking he is a young elven nobleman well-versed in lore and history and desperate for adventure, who has come to Hommlet looking for evidence of Prince Thrommel of Furyondy and his famous magic sword. He's mostly a wizard, though like all good elves he has some martial prowess as well (in this case a level of magus), and he is eventually aimed at the Eldritch Knight prestige class. I hope it meets with your approval, but let me know if there's anything you'd like to alter or refine. :)

So tempted to ask, can I use 3.5 templates or LA races?

Hey Jesse -

We've also got a human paladin 2/bloodrager 1 (Domeric, the Silver Knight). Unless we lost him, too.

RHMG Animator wrote:

You may ask, but LA stuff I tend to amortize, so instead of having a level adjustment, your abilities get spread out over several levels and eventually unlock at points where they match with other abilities coming on-line for other characters. (Basically, a +1 to attack is a pretty big deal at 1st level, but it's swamped out by other modifiers at 15th level, so the value of various abilities can often be pegged to a point of marginal utility.)

Bataleigha Silvercrest wrote:

No, he's still here, I just for some reason miscounted.

Have a number of ideas floating around in my mind,
hopefully I'll get it down to a two or three.

Filtered out a half of the ideas...

Templates I'm Looking at:
Half-Dragon (using Races of the Dragon since it breaks the LA into levels)
Feral (Using Savage Species pg 115, LA +1)
Half-Minotaur (Dragon Magazine Issue #313 pg 94, LA +1)
Half-Nymph (Dragon Magazine Issue #313 pg 95, LA +2)

Most of the templates have parts, I'll willing to toss out to weaken them.

---
Want to ask, if the 3.5 content is Open as I'm looking at some content from Frostburn (the cold environment book), a feat or two from the Complete Warrior, and might be wanting access to ToB Superior Unarmed Strike.
As I am looking at using the 3.5 Barbarian with Frostrager (Frostburn pg 60-62) but using the PF skills and skill system.

If not allowing 3.5 Barbarian or Frostrager, I can just mark it off the list.

The PF classes I'm primarily looking at are; Barbarian, Ranger, and Fighter.

If you are still looking for someone, I can whip something up in a day or two.
Thinking maybe Warmage?

Just to get a character started, I'll go random.

Randomness:

Template: 1d3 ⇒ 3 None = 1, Mino = 2, Feral = 3
Feral Selected

Core Race: 1d3 ⇒ 3 Elf = 1, Half-elf =2, Human = 3
Human Selected

Core Class: 1d6 ⇒ 1 1 = Barbarian, Fighter =2, Ranger = 3, Brawler = 4, Bloodrager = 5, Slayer = 6
Barbarian Selected

Gender: 2d2 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 Diff = Male, Same = Female

Since this is an ADnD module I'll take something from ADnD Unearthed Arcana

Comeliness: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 6) = 15

Stat Array(s) of 20 Point-buy
1) 14,14,13,13,12,12
2) 14,14,14,13,12,10
3) 14,14,14,14,10,10
Stat Array: 1d3 ⇒ 1 14,14,13,13,12,12

So a Female Feral Human Barbarian using stat array of 14,14,13,13,12,12.

I'll toss out the Feral template's natural Attacks and Special Attacks to lower a third of it's power.

Set Array as;
14,14,13,13,12,12

Add Human (floating +2 to DEX)
14,16,13,13,12,12

Add Feral (floating +4 STR, -2 DEX, +2 CON, -4 INT, +2 WIS)
18,14,15,9,14,12

Stats Complete

So I have selected the major Parts, Just need to ask if I can take any of the following feats; Cold Endurance and Improved Cold Endurance, Superior Unarmed Strike, Exotic Weapon Prof(Full Blade), and or Exotic Weapon Prof(Iuak).

So far our new submissions look like:

eriktd as Orveiss, an elf magus/wizard
Buckshot Bob as a warmage
RHMG Animator as a female feral human barbarian (cold theme from Frostburn)
Cranky Cow as some kind of arcanist

@Buckshot Bob: Warmage is fine if you want to try that route. It's slightly under-par as casters go but it can be a lot of fun.

@RHMG: Yes to all of the feats you requested. I'm going to go over the Feral template and build out my own version, so give me a day or so to get on that.

I notices that you have a wizard and a arcanist, that should cover arcane. So I will create a divine caster instead, something that can heal. Most likely a cleric of Pelor.

@Buckshot Bob: You may have mixed up the "applicants" list with the "current party" list. Our current party has no primary arcane casters (one cleric, one rogue/bard/druid, one fighter, one paladin/bloodrager). Hence why we were soliciting arcane casters! You can submit a cleric if you like but we already have one. :)

Orveiss is primarily a wizard, he just has a 1-level magus dip to eventually qualify for Eldritch Knight. :)

oh, ok that is easy arcane it is.
So do we use the D&D 3.5 books, or pathfinder books? little difference with wizards and such between the two.

I'm using Pathfinder, but I allow the option of pulling some 3.5 material if there is no Pathfinder official equivalent - for instance, Binders from the Tome of Magic.

Here we go AKA "Buckshot Bob"

How much of a back story do you want?

Silver Crusade

Yep, sorry about that, Dom.

@GM
Sent a PM of the Original Feral Template and my modified version.

This is a very good question.

I usually don't demand more than a couple paragraphs, just the highlights of what motivates your character and how you fit into the adventure.

Note that this adventure is set in the world of Greyhawk. Our campaign info tab links to a campaign document with a lot of info, and that also has a link to a wiki called Canonfire! that has a ton of historical and world information about Greyhawk. You should consider: What brought your character to a sleepy little town like Hommlet? How did you get involved in the business of fighting against the rising darkness of the temple? Do you know about its history and the wars against its former masters, such as the Battle of Emridy Meadows? Why should the people of Hommlet, and the party in particular, trust you? What are your feelings about some of the neighboring countries, like Urnst, Veluna, and the rangers of the Gnarley Forest?

Done, unless you want more back story

Q'Lee wrote:

A sorcerer with a CHA of 10? I assume that something didn't get updated on the sheet?

Oops, now it's fixed. That is what happens when you retro a Rouge that was never used.

Silver Crusade

Just don't try and use a long spear like the last arcanist!

Stating to guess that it is tight quarter's fighting in the dungeon ......

Fezzik continues sharpening his sword, oblivious to the fact that someone is commenting on his size. Yeah, I have a tendency to make it difficult to manuever.

Oh right.... Half-Orge in the room.....

Just need to know the starting cash for gear and the OKed version of the Feral Template (Currently using my Modded version to speed things up).
Currently Thinking the cash is near 4k in gold pieces...

And which XP track is this game on?

It's 3k Gp to start.

We're on the medium XP track.

Is there still an opening?

ToEE is the first module I ever bought (wayyyyyyyyyyy back when...) and would love to play it.

I have an idea for a Magus (Eldritch Archer) worshipper of Murlynd. Would have the Magical Technologist Trait and either he Amateur Gunslinger feat or a level of Gunslinger.

Noted.

I'll be getting to working on finishing the character while the powergrid is being repaired here.

Finished the Character

I'm working OT and will look over characters and offer feedback on backgrounds and stories tomorrow.

@Orveiss: Looks ok, though that dump of Wis/Cha is pretty worrisome!

@Q'Lee: Good start, I'm curious about how far away you lived, whether your mother sent you with anyone to talk to or any direction at all about how to find out more about the old battle, and whether your character feels like his father gave his life nobly, whether it was a waste, or whether he just doesn't know enough to make an informed decision.

Titania: It's unusual for a human to develop the feral template spontaneously; it's more common as a "lost tribe" sort of thing - like being one of the Fruzzti (one of the Frost Barbarians or other northern groups that survive in great hardship) and from a remote, isolated place. Something handed down after generations of living in harsh, punishing conditions far from civilization. If you were to go more in that direction, how would you envision your character's background?

TClegg1024: If you hurry you could squeeze something in under the wire.

Trying to finish this afternoon. Gone away from the Gunslinger/Magus to Suloise Magus with aChakram.

This is my overall concept:

Spoiler:
Name: Varian Kol
Ethnicity: Suloise

Physical Details
Age: 23
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 210 lbs.

Homeland, Family, and Childhood
Homeland: Frontier
Parents: Only your mother is alive.
Siblings: You have 2 biological siblings and 2 half-siblings.
- biological older sister
- biological older sister
- older half-orc brother
- older half-orc brother
Circumstance of Birth: [Bastard Born] Your parents had a tryst that resulted in your birth out of wedlock. You know one of your parents, but the other remains unknown or a distant presence at best.
Parent's Profession: Soldiers
Major Childhood Event: [Bullied] In your early life, you were a victim— easy prey for those stronger or cleverer than yourself. They beat you when they could, using you for their sport. This abuse nursed a powerful flame of vengeance.

Adolescence and Training
Magus Training: [What If] You don't know the meaning of impossible. Everyone around you thinks you have your head stuck in the clouds, but you continually strive to achieve things that have never been accomplished before—perhaps things that have never even been dreamed of. Bucking convention has brought numerous failures, but you've learned from your mistakes and are able to snatch victory over seemingly impossible odds.
Influential Associate: [The Wanderer] You knew someone who traveled from place to place with the changing of the wind, such as a minstrel, convict, merchant, outcast, soldier, or sailor. This person brought you wondrous mementos and told you of all the places he had traveled and the people who lived there, inspiring a wanderlust within you.

Moral Conflicts/Religion
Conflict: [Cheater] You broke a rule, law, contract, or agreement for your own gain. CP: 3
Conflict Subject: Lover or Former Lover. CP: 0
Conflict Motivation: Justice. CP: 1
Conflict Resolution: No Guilt. CP: 2
Current Total CP: 6
Deity/Religious Philosophy: Murlynd

Romances/Drawbacks
Romantic Relationship(s): [One Significant Relationship] You had a true love once, but that time has passed.
Drawback: [The Future] Your concerns lie not with the present, but with preparation for the future. You may be an avid and organized planner, or perhaps you see the signs of a coming dark age or troubled time. You behave cautiously, conservatively, and methodically as you plan for events that might one day occur.

Notes:
Parents were previously members of the Scarlet Brotherhood, but when Varian’s mother allied with the Splintered Mind faction and fled, Varian’s father was killed in retribution. Fleeing, and ending in the Duchy of Urnst, his mother and siblings built a life in the wilderness, rarely going to the nearby village except only for supplies.

While his mother made sure Varian could defend himself from a young age (even to the point of at times, encouraging his older siblings to bully him), it took a wandering member of the Splintered Mind (who came to visit his mother and who Varian suspects is actually his father) to inspire Varian to action and studying the arcane arts. Along the way, he realized that he had a niche where he could blend the arcane and martial arts in the use of a Suloise Weapon, the Chakram.

Is that ok or would I need to adjust here and there?

DM Jesse Heinig wrote:
@Orveiss: Looks ok, though that dump of Wis/Cha is pretty worrisome!

Worrisome as in you think the character will have trouble, or worrisome as in you want me to change it? :) I'm willing to play him with a lower-than-normal Will save, but if it feels too much like min-maxing to you, I could reduce Int to 16+2 and Dex to 12+2, and bring up Wis to 12, or Wis to 10 and Cha to 8.

Ok, this is the crunch, except for actual spells and equipment....

I though about this a lot last night before nodding off to sleep.

Lotta text:

The Feral template, since its natural attacks and special attacks were removed, we can't really call it a feral template anymore, more of a survivor's template.

Now the catch of her background
I saw it more as a "Be careful what you wish for" and "Divine hand" setup.
Farming work is Hard physical labour, so I could easily imagine the family were followers of Kord.

During the Giant attack, I could imagine Tess' parents as they are dying that they pray that Tess survives the attack and gains strength to survive onward.

As Tess is being chased and when she gets a chance to recover from her initial and following run, that she'd pray herself to survive and that she herself was Bigger, Stronger, Tougher, ... etc. and Kord grants her request since it is truely sincere and was also in a way the same wish as her parents.

Now the catch on that part is that before this giant attack, she envisioned her older adult self with a beautiful, well toned, and very feminine body. Now she has a body more like Arnold Schwarzenegger from Conan the Barbarian.
After getting back to a more civilized way of living she gained a bit of a complex about her femininity, since most women are not as; big, strong, or muscular as her, though she knows this strength is what helped her survive time and again so she doesn't want to lose it either.

Background updated

I'll likely add more t the background now that I've had more time to think on elements and hopefully give you as GM some good character hooks.
