"Yes," Cassandra cheers as Vance makes an impressive shot. Not to let such an opportunity go to waste, she gives chase. Cassandra races after the man, exploding out of the tree line, leaves flowing in her wake. She slides in parallel to the bandit, bow at the ready. "Stay down," she orders.

Use a Ki point to increase movement speed by 10ft and run as full round action. 200ft.

The bandit is trying to get the arrow out of his shoulders when Cassie arrives. He slowly pushes his hands out to the sides as he lies on the ground, face down.

Almost forgot I could do that.

Cassandra waits for the man to get all the way to the ground before getting closer. Being careful, she places her boot in the middle of his back and stabs the arrow in her hand into the ground in from of his face, growling out, "Don't move." She then roughly pulls the arrow out of his shoulder and steps on the wound. This was both to keep him in pain to prevent him from thinking clearly and to keep pressure on the wound.

Heal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 This was to gauge the wound but might not be enough.

"Kavalina. Can you see to this wound."

Nonlethal damage to bandit from fall from horse: 1d6 ⇒ 1

As Cassie closes in on the fallen bandit, she is given pause at about 30' by the intense smell. Living in the wild makes one grungy, but this bandit has a specific, pungent odor that is noticeable. Even people without her keen senses can probably smell this guy coming and going.

The man's armor stopped most of the arrow - Vance made a long shot with a short bow and got extremely lucky. (In future retellings he'll probably tell everyone he's just that good.) It pierced the studded leather armor but the tip just scratched the skin in back - a pinprick of blood and that's about it.

"Wow! Great shot Vance!" Korinne gasps as the fleeing man topples from his horse. While Cassandra and Kavalina move to take care of him, she turns her attention to the bandit felled by her magic.

The bandit over at the copse of trees - the first one felled - is unconscious and bleeding to death.

Hatch stands near Korinne and says, "Um, do we save him, or...?"

He's a hefty fellow with a nasty scar-line on the side of his head, visible because no hair grows over that section.

"Ugh. Nevermind. He isn't dying, just needs a bath." She waves away Kavalina after realizing that he isn't that hurt. "There is a river not far from your base you realize that?" With her foot still on him she puts her bow away and takes out Kressel's finely crafted handaxe. She then takes out a length of rope and carefully ties his hands behind his back, leaving the trailing end in her possession. "Now be good." she hauls him to his feet and starts walking him back to the others. "Who wants to interrogate first?"

Carinna can't believe at Vance's lucky shot but as soon as she sees Cassandra and Kavalina rushing towards the fleeing bandit, she joined Korinne, trying to save the other bandit's life. You never know if we are saving another Hatch or Vance here...

At Korinne's lack of success, she knelt besides the bandit, trying to stop his bleeding, "I've seen Cass and Kava doing this a couple times... I think we can help him to stay alive..."

Heal DC 15: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

"...for the Gods! This isn't working at all!" Carinna exclaims as a jet of blood almost hits her in the eye, "Kavalinaaaa! We need you here reaaally quickly!"

With the others approaching and knowing that she should never again try to help anyone to stabilize, she took advantage of Cassandra's question to take her leave, grabbing her sword and guiding the bandit towards the log... and then the river, when she became aware of his smell. Keeping her distance, she touched his chin with her sword and started to shave him, "...so... time to talk and if I were you I'd be polite, concise, and truthful. If I sense you are lying, I'll cut your throat... or give you a bath, not sure what you fear the most..."

"Now, how many of you are there in the fort? How many keep watch, and at which time? What were you doing outside, when should you return, and what will happen when they notice your absence?" She had many more questions but those should be enough for now.

"Whoa! Whoa!" says the smelly bandit. "There's about a dozen of us in there. Me an' my brother were sent out to do a little hunting, come back with some rabbit, maybe. The boss only sends out big groups when we're taking on big prey! We should be back in a couple hours. If we don't come back they'll eventually send a big group to find out what happened. Boss is on edge since Kressle's camp got hijacked." He pauses, then says, "Hey... was that you folks?"

"Oh. I thought Korinne got him," Cassandra says in surprise. She didn't realize the other one was still alive. Once Carinna has the rope, she rushes over to the other man and kneels at his side, checking over the wound. Korinne's appeared to have knocked him out but Tel's was the one that threatened his life.

Heal: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22

Wasting little time, she wiped away the blood pooling in the wound and placed a bandage over it to staunch the bleeding. While she applied pressure, she deftly threaded a needle with her other hand and teeth. She then sewed the wound shut and replaced the soaked bandages.

"He should live," she said, wiping away some sweat.

I assume. the roll is good but I think he'd have to survive five rounds first.

"Thanks Cass," Korinne replies, looking a bit sheepish as she gets to her feet. "Will you show me that trick again sometime? It's silly for me to develop ways to power magical healing and not even be able to handle the basics of first aid," she sighs.

"And what do we do with these two once Carinna is done talking to Smelly McGee over there?" she whispers.

Carinna smiles, thinking that by admitting their involvement in Krassle's demise would only help them. "Yes we were, and now it is your turn. Despite what you've found in that camp, not all of those bandits were executed... some of them were spared. So it is up to you to decide in which group you'd rather be..." despite revealing this, she didn't mention who Vance and Hatch were.

"And how much time will your boss await until he sends reinforcements?" once she gets her answer, she will approach the others after securing the man would not escape.

"It appears our plan will work even better! With these two captured and missing, the Stag Lord will send a bunch of men to look for them. If we make our fire, I believe they will be drawn by it like moths... meanwhile, we sneak behind the fort and through the secret passage, catching those who remain inside off-guard. If we are quick, we can lock the gate, stopping the bandits to come back and help..." she then smiles once more, "...if we are really fast, we'll be able to take care of the Stag Lord and then make a trap for when the rest og the bandits return after finding our empty camp!"

Korinne whistles softly. "Wow...that's even more ambitious than our first plan - I like it!" she says, unable to keep from grinning.

Cassandra leans on her bow as they discuss an altered plan. "I think I'd still prefer ambushing the next group too. I mean, if we get caught up in the fort, we are probably going to get trapped there. But if we let some go in the next ambush or are forced to retreat, we still have a way in. Then again, if we get in and find this Stag Lord quick, the rest will probably scatter." She looks around at the others and realizes how indecisive that sounded. "Sorry, I am not helping am I?"

How far away from the fort are we on horseback? want to know how much time we'd have to take the fort.

Wow! So many posts since my hooting retort to the bandits. I'll try to post something a bit more later today. Job permitting.

Telmarni listens intently to Carinna's interrogation of the bandits after she retrieved her sword. Maybe another ambush might help. Though... I need practice in hiding. Cari could always find me when I was younger. As she ponders the situation, she lets out a sigh.

Walking over to the others, she nods. "I don't know about if you're being indecisive, but it has to be better than my act today." She scratches the back of her head as she looks away. "I looked like a fool, huh?" As she looks a little embarrassed over the recent incident.

The smelly bandit says, "There are small groups all over the countryside - check in every few days to drop off loot and get supplies. If the boss does get suspicious and send out a party to find us, he'll send one of the big boys - maybe Akiros, maybe Tiger. They'll spit you on a sword and cut you down so quick your heads will spin. And that's not a threat! I saw Tiger rip a man from stem to stern with his clawed hands once!"

Vance loiters over to Korinne and mutters to her, "I know this one. Dirty Jeb Megesen. So that one with the scar on his head must be the older brother, Ayles Megesen. They have a routine for hunting: Dirty Jeb flushes out animals with his incredible stench (but 'e says it's his great hunting skills), Ayles gets downwind where the animals will be startled by smelling Dirty Jeb, and catches 'em. Supposedly Ayles is a bit addled in the head from that old wound."

"Alright then," she chants slowly in orcish as she raises the holy symbol on her neck, "Tell me, what crimes, if any, were you and your brother wanted for or had committed?"

With your permission GM, would it be possible to use Forbid Action to deny him the ability to lie? If yes, it is a DC:14 Will save. If no, then I shall roll."

"I can see that," Korinne whispers back, wrinkling her nose in disgust. "Well...at least that's two down! I know we've got several more to go but that thankfully went very well. I guess we'll see what Carinna and Kav turn up and then decide which plan to go with." Although she was ready to help if it seemed needed, Korinne knew from past experience that sometimes being harsh worked better than being kind - and being harsh wasn't something she was very good at or enjoyed.

Cassandra shifts, gaining some feline features, and in impressive set of claws herself. "What's so great about clawed hands?" She says holding them up for him to see. "I can do that too."

Carinna turns back to the others, thinking that she had got all the information they needed, "Hum, the information that they could send their best warriors to look for these two just makes me like my plan even better." she then looked at Cassandra, "Look Cass, I know we generally don't agree with our plans but please hear me this time... it is too risky for us to try to ambush them outside. Sneaking inside while they are out is the safest way to run this attack."

"If we try to ambush them outside, I'm sure we'll be able to hide ourselves and properly ambush them but once they see our fake camp, they'll know they are in a trap and once they do, we'll have little choice but to spring it, even if they outnumber us by too many, and if only one of them escapes, he'll go back running to the fort, putting all the remaining bandits in full alert... hell, if one of them have a hunting horn we are already screwed! We can't count on Vance's lucky shot once more." she changes her gaze back to the others.

"We still have the element of surprise so I say we take the most of it... I'm confident that luring them out while we sneak in is sound strategy, if we can bring the Stag Lord down, these men are already defeated. I vote for the stealthy approach, what about you?" she looks inquisitive to the others.

"No we don't," Cassandra says defensively. But after thinking for a moment, she realized they had but heads more than once. "Okay, maybe. But we should consider everything. Out here we have the option of running. And even if we let one go, we have a way in they don't know about. I made a little noise, on accident, opening the hidden passage at the other end but they didn't look there. It's a good plan but its higher risk and it assumes Smelly is telling the truth. They might not send anyone for him and his brother. We need to make sure..." Cassandra trails off as a thought comes to her. She looks over at Telmarni. "You can fly. You can make sure a big group heads out and we can all wait at the hidden entrance for your signal. Nevermind, no objections. I just didn't want us to get stuck inside against a force we couldn't handle."

"Now what do we do with them?" she says pointing at the bandits. "He's not going anywhere anytime soon." She shifts to point at the bandit on the ground she recently bandaged.

"I think that's the best way to go about it - and Telmarni and I can use our messaging spells to keep us in touch with each other if we need to split up, like what you suggested," Korinne says quietly, feeling a bit relieved to see Carinna and Cass both more or less agree on something.

"As for the bandits...um...shoot, this is going to end up like the last time we had to talk about this isn't it?" she sighs. "I don't want to kill anyone we don't have to and I'm all for second chances, but even if a bunch of them surrendered we don't have enough of us out here to keep a handle on them all..."

She glances over at Dirty Jeb and his brother. "Maybe knock the other one out for right now and stash them away somewhere nearby?"

Hatch says, "So, uh, what next? In the secret tunnel? Are we gonna need a torch or something, Cass?"

Carinna shrugs at Korinne's question, "I think so... knocking it out might work pretty well..." she then approaches the bandit and strikes him hard with the flat of her blade. Once he is down, she asks for some rope and piece of cloth so she can tie and gag him, dragging him and his brother to the tree where Telmarni tried to hide herself, and also tied them to the tree. "I wonder how is it possible for someone to smell so badly? Does he simply don't bath or he scrubs crap all over his body?"

"Yes. Hopefully we have enough time now. When we are done, we need to cover tracks in case one of them is a goof tracker. So I have an idea for that." Cassandra then gets back to her fire, making sure it will be very smoky when they are ready. She also sets up her tent to make it seem like someone might be there or nearby. When they are ready to leave she gets everyone and heads for a water source. One the way she explains, "We'll make a trip there and back so our tracks show us going both ways. Then we'll head back and wade down a few hundred yards and head for the trap door. Hopefully if something goes wrong, they still won;t know how we got in."

"Rolling in whatever serves for a garbage heap would probably do it too," Korinne responds as she hurries to help the others finish setting up the fake camp.

When the time comes to head into the secret tunnel, she looks a little puzzled as Cass leads them elsewhere but then her expression brightens as the next phase of the plan is revealed. "Oh, okay! Sounds like a plan to me," she responds cheerfully.

At the Fake Camp

Telmarni assists in helping prepare the fake camp with the others, but she keeps looking towards the two bandits that they have captured. "We will probably have to end those two before long anyway. After getting soggy and laying the confusing trails of footprints, Korinne takes a deep breath as the group readies to head into the tunnel. Crossbow in hand, she summons forth a small light onto the end of it to help light the way.

"Don't worry, once we get close to the trap door I can put it out," she assures Cass and the others. "Just poke me or something to let me know when!"

Cassandra leads the way through the tunnel, cat-like eyes almost as wide as a normal humans but seeing far more in the darkness. She has the group pause while she traverses the last few feet stealthily. She then listens at the door first, trying to gauge if there is anyone beyond. Then, ever so gently, she lifts the hidden door and peers about. If no one is around, she slips out and the searches the area for people. If she still finds no one, she signals for the others to come out.

After laying your fake tracks and false starts, you sneak down the long, cramped tunnel to the trapdoor.

Cass, ever alert for danger, huddles under the trapdoor and listens to the conversation above.

The sound of creaking wood and falling pebbles tell you that people are moving around a bit up above.

"I tell ya, the boss better do something about it," says a nondescript voice.

"Boss isn't gonna do nuthin' but drink," says another.

"Quiet, both of you," says a firm, authoritarian voice in return. "It will go ill if the Stag Lord hears such talk."

"Eh, he won't hear anythin'. He's sleepin' off too much drink again," says the first voice.

"I'll hear no more of it. We've had many successes so far. Once we are able to re-establish the Thorn River camp we can deal with the trading post and establish a secure strategic position," says the authoritarian voice again. He seems confident and used to command. "So there is no reason for such talk. Our position here is stable and we will have opportunities to create our own territory here in the River Kingdoms."

"Aye, aye, well enough..." trails off the second voice. "As long as those two louts return with somethin' to eat."

"If not," says the authoritarian voice, "I'll send Tiger to hunt with them. He never fails such endeavors."

"Why not send him in the first place?" says the first voice.

"Jeb and Ayles, we could afford to lose if they run afoul of whoever eliminated Kressle. Tiger is too valuable to risk. Now go make sure that Auchs is not hurting the 'bear.'" The emphasis on 'bear' seems a little odd.

You're all in the tunnel; what now? You can't see anyone from where you are - based on the sounds, you think they're probably up near the gate or on the upper floor.

Cassandra slinks back to the others for a quick and muted discussion. "Stairs above door. I hear two nearby. Tiger's still here." She put emphasis on the name Tiger. This was the man the bandits said had, clawed hands and was very strong. Cassandra thought they should retreat and take on the two they sent to find the smelly brothers. They could try again when Tiger left but she figured they'd want to head in now since they were here.

Cassandra shakes her head once, then stops and thinks. "Maybe. Couldn't see them. Might be able to draw them to the entrance and pull one in."

"They'll be expecting something if those three get back. Best go now. Carinna, get behind me." Cassandra lets them shuffle then moves tot he end of the tunnel. She holds up a finger to indicate silence and listens. If they still sound close, she begins to scratch gently against the trapdoor, getting louder and louder until she gets someones attention.

Shifting for strength boost and claws. Going to try for a grapple when someone opens the door and immediately pull them to the ground with her. Carinna has the best attack and damage so, hoping she can finish him in one go.

After a few minutes, heavy bootsteps come from the east, then make their way toward the trapdoor.

"Here kitty kitty," says a thick, slurred voice.

"Maybe it's a doggy," the person says after about half a minute's pause.

"I'd like a doggy. But not a bitey one like the last doggy. That was a bad dog."

Bandit perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Cassandra: Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

A large, chunky, muscular bandit bends down by the trapdoor.

"Hey... there's a funny door here. Maybe the doggy or kitty is down there." He reaches out a meaty fist and opens the door.

Cassandra: Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Cassandra lunges up like a trapdoor spider and grabs the bandit's leg.

Cassandra: Reposition: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

She hauls him down into the hole.

Cassandra: Pin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

...but the large brute is too strong and squirmy to hold down. He starts yelling but the trapdoor closes behind him with a squeak.

From above you distantly hear someone shout, "Shut up, Auchs! Go play with your toys quietly!"

The large man's face contorts into rage, then he realizes that he is vastly outnumbered. Comically, you can actually see him count "One... twoooo... uh..."

Then he sits down on the ground heavily and starts to cry.

Going from darkvision to normal through her a little off. In this case it was a good thing. Had the light not blinded her, she might not have committed to the maneuver. The catch was a large one. Somehow, she managed and now a new problem arose. They had a very large man crying in front of them. Cassandra clamps a hand over his mouth to muffle the crying and makes a shushing noise. "It's okay. It's okay. Please don't cry. Um." What to do after that, she has no idea. She looks back obviously confused.
