Not a problem, Magnauk. Hiro, are you de facto handling the party paperwork of funds & such? You've done a great job of it before. ;)
Also, uploading and formatting maps via laptop is a paiiiin.
DM Jesse Heinig |
Super sick. Hopefully back in action soon.
Kaijitsu Kenji |
Sorry you're sick.

DM Jesse Heinig |
So the illness that I had last week doubled back with a vengeance. I've mostly been sleeping. Will do my best to try to keep some momentum. :)
DM Jesse Heinig |
If I'm still sick next week I'll head to the doc. Right now it seems like it's just a nasty cold that's been going around the office -- one of my co-workers mentioned that he got something that left him sick for two days, seemed to go away, then rebounded with nasty sinus pressure and phlegm, and that seems to match.
Kaijitsu Kenji |
I am inordinately happy I survived fighting an ogre at level 2.

DM Jesse Heinig |
They're only CR 3 and you have a bunch of NPCs, but yeah, so far so good. ;)
Also Lyraesel's entangle spell was particularly useful.
Kaijitsu Kenji |
That battlefield control was awesome. Ogres may be CR 3 but they hit hard.

For those who were wondering about Deborah's class features and her healing abilities, she is actually a ley line guardian witch, which is why she talks about dragon lines and seeing the magical flows of power. (The guess about the kineticist-healer was interesting, though.)
Kaijitsu Kenji |
Hello?

Sorry, my fiance had kind of a super bad weekend and I spent my days doing emotional support. :)
Hiro Takemashi |
Hiro, are you de facto handling the party paperwork of funds & such? You've done a great job of it before. ;)
Sorry I missed this earlier! Let's see if I can get caught up...
Items Sold in Galduria (Value / Sale Value)
Varisian Crypt Treasure:
Masterwork Breastplate (350 gp / 175 gp)
Masterwork Greatsword (350 gp / 175 gp)
Bronze Torc (150 gp / 75 gp)
Bronze Armband (75 gp / 37 gp, 5 sp)
Goblin Raid on Caravan:
Cargo (125 gp)
The sale of all of these items in Galduria equals 587 gp, 5 sp. We spent 30 gp on provisions, leaving 557 gp, 5 sp. Do we want to divide this among the group, or keep it as "caravan funds" to use for paying the caravan employees and purchasing provisions/supplies?
From the ogres we recovered 2 units of cargo (400 gp value per unit) for a total sale value of 800 gp. Do we want to try to sell this in Wolf's Ear, or hold onto it until we reach another (hopefully more welcoming) settlement? Do we have enough provisions to make it to the next settlement?
DM Jesse Heinig |
Next settlement is Roderic's Cove, probably... about 3 days if you don't have any problems. Then it's a straight shot to Brinewall, another 6 days over relatively open land.
DM Jesse Heinig |
Total time from Sandpoint to Brinewall is only about 16 days, barring problems.
Jinda replied last time I prodded him in PMs, so I'm going to see what's going on. He seems to have just drifted into being less active on the boards in general.
DM Jesse Heinig |
I've updated the campaign info (long) tab with the names of the people you've learned about in Wolf's Ear (the murder victim, her father, and the woman who claims to have seen her with Vankor).
DM Jesse Heinig |
I've not heard back from Jinda's player. I checked his profile and his last post was late January.
He's listed as being a Venture-Captain for the Society out here in Sacramento (about two hours from where I live) so I might actually see him at some convention, but he's not responding to PMs and hasn't been posting as far as I can tell, anywhere on the Paizo boards.
At this time I'm inclined to start looking around for a replacement arcane character for our group.
My first inclination is to go back to the Recruitment list and see if anyone on there strikes the party as a character that would be a good fit -- someone that could join up as part of the Wolf's Ear story. If nobody on there looks like someone you'd want to play with, we can re-open recruitment for a specific role.
Kaijitsu Kenji |
I can pull double-duty, if need be

DM Jesse Heinig |
Jinda's player got back to me and asked to be replaced, so I'll work him out of the story and we will need to pick up someone new! Fortunately this is a perfect time to do so, as you meet people about the town during your investigation -- and whatever new PC is picked up will be able to move freely about without need for stealth. :)
I'm going to go back to the recruitment listing and provide a list of the folks who didn't make it, then let you guys indicate which ones you wanna try out!
DM Jesse Heinig |
Ok, I went back to my old recruitment spreadsheet, and here were the other applicants:
Character Name - Type - Player - Relationship
Luanna Snowcaster - Elf Monk - Clebsch73 - Shalelu (rescued)
Kharia - Dwarven Barbarian - Jason Lillis - Koya Mvashti (rescued?)
Rakhel - Half-Elf Lunar Oracle - JAF0 - Ameiko (best friends)
Morgrym Stonestepper - Dwarf Warpriest - Mokshai - Sandru (caravan guard)
Wūyā Aikio Kaijitsu - Tengu Ranger - Robert Henry - Ameiko (younger sibling)
Asako Kaijitsu - Half-Elf Monk - spectrevk - Ameiko (best friend)
Koan Wakahisa - Kitsune Bard - Draconas - Ameiko (crush)
Bernard - Human Rogue (Acrobat) - Derz - Koya Mvashti (friend of the family)
Ielah Yelah - Human Ranger - Azih - Shalelu (mentor)
Cameila - Half-Elf Hunter - spinningdice - ??
If I missed anyone, I expect Hiro will probably notice, as he seems to be good at organization.
Out of this admittedly messy list, there are no arcane casters!
We could try to pick up an alternate, or we can re-open recruitment for a caster specifically. Also this might be a way to get someone who's good at doing trap stuff.
Lemme know what you guys are looking for!
Kaijitsu Kenji |
I like the bard. The only arcane caster I saw.
-Posted with Wayfinder
DM Jesse Heinig |
We don't necessarily HAVE to pick an arcane caster, but I figured since that's what we're replacing, we could at least look and see if there were any direct replacements. :)
Lyraesel |
The bard also not only perfectly replaces the arcane role but also the relationship in both the character and type. (Crush/ Ameiko)
Hell his background is pretty damned perfect and he could have waited for his 18th birthday then set out after us to take on his role as her protector. Would jibe interestingly with Hiro as well.
The Oracle could be interesting as well
DM Jesse Heinig |
Two votes for the bard, then! I'll poke Magnauk and Hiro to have them drop in here. :)
Kaijitsu Kenji |
Any developments?

DM Jesse Heinig |
I haven't heard from Magnauk or Hiro. I'm going to send a PM to the kitsune bard from the list and invite him.
EDIT: Ok, message sent! I seem to recall Hiro mentioning that he was going to be away through Tuesday. Magnauk just seems to be intermittent, but I expect we'll see him again. If the new player accepts, I will work him in right away.
Koan Wakahisa |
A little bird found me and said that a fearless band of adventurers needed someone with some arcane insight? Koan of the Wakahisa at your service. What song or dance might I perform for your entertainment tonight, dear friends?
DM Jesse Heinig |
Greetings! So, I'll sum up. :)
We've been playing at a leisurely pace for about the last year (March will be our anniversary!). Our team's resident arcanist had to leave the game, so I asked the players who they liked as a possible replacement from our original recruitment board, and they picked you!
We have finished the early part of Jade Regent book 1 -- exploration of the swamps near Sandpoint, and discovery that Ameiko Kaijitsu's family is part of some larger story. We are in the midst of act 2, which is literally one page in the module directing the DM (me) to have some encounters "on the road" to flesh out the story. We set up a caravan (there's a link on the campaign info tab with all the data) and the group has traveled partway from Sandpoint toward Brinewall, a ruined fortress about 16 days' travel to the north.
The group dispersed some goblins using the caravan combat rules, which are generally No Fun, so we dispensed with them. They stopped at Galduria for supplies, then encountered a small group of ogres and dispatched them via more conventional combat. The caravan just arrived in Wolf's Ear, and they took on more supplies. The morning after, though, an angry mob arrived and accused one of the caravan drivers, Vankor, of murdering a local woman. Vankor proclaims that he's innocent.
Right now our party consists of:
Hiro Takemashi -- Samurai/brawler. Ameiko's family bodyguard.
Kenji Kaijitsu (or Kaijitsu Kenji, if you prefer the Tian style) -- Ameiko's younger brother, a fire-controlling adept (elemental ascetic fire kineticist).
Lyraesel -- A half-elf druidess.
Magnauk Halistrom -- A badly-scarred half-orc paladin in the service of Erastil.
And of course the module's key NPCs, Ameiko, Shalelu, Sandru the caravan driver, and Koya Mvashti the aged cleric.
Our magician was Jinda, a dwarf arcanist. He will be heading back to Galduria in a little bit, and I'll be taking care of writing him out of the story.
Should you choose to join up, you'd be currently in Wolf's Ear, but you already know Ameiko, having been to Sandpoint and stayed at the Rusty Dragon many times. That means you'd also know the rest of the group. Wolf's Ear is a particularly dangerous place for you to be, as the town once had a problem with lycanthropes, and a shapeshifter could be the subject of fearful villager attacks, especially if you're seen palling around with people who've been accused of murdering one of the townsfolk!
We are currently in the "murder investigation" stage of this story. Posting has been a bit slow as Jinda basically dropped off before he confirmed to me that he was out, and I believe that Hiro's player was away from home for the last several days. Magnauk occasionally has internet trouble. I would prefer a more brisk posting style but I want to get a new player settled in to do so! :D
If you have any questions, ask away!

That shouldn't be much of a problem since as part of his background, Koan stays in human form all the time when in public. His nature as a kitsune is supposed to remain secret except with family or close friends to avoid these very scenarios with racist locals.
DM Jesse Heinig |
Sure -- just remember, some people in Wolf's Ear are actually familiar with hunting shapeshifters, and they may have... ways. ;)
Also, welcome back Lyraesel, hope you had a great vacation!

Yay! A regular at the rusty dragon I would recognize!
As Ameiko's younger brother, I might have seen you around when you did visit. You might notice me slinking around town.
... Oh god. Hope you didn't drink the ale last night. O.o
