Round 2

Now that Tibideau and Drosil are in the room, they can see that a skinless monstrosity stands on the platform above them and to the right. A small-sized humanoid also balances on one of the vats, but he is shrouded in an aura of darkness making his features hard to make out.

There also appear to be several more mongrelmen cowering in the corner of the basement level.

The skinless man grabs a glass vial from his waist and flings it at Drosil. The rogue ducks, and the vial impacts near Janos's feet. It explodes in a massive burst of magical acid, splashing all over Janos and Drosil.

The shadow-shrouded humanoid figure flings another axe, this time aiming for Drosil. The fetchling dodges it.

The two mongrelmen balancing on the rim of the vat swing their clubs at Drosil as well. The miss parade continues.

Tibideau inspects the gruesome skinless creature, scratching his invisible head as he tries to remember the most recent edition of Otherworldly.

A thought pops into his head. His eyes bug out as his head whips back toward Vorkstag's direction. "OH S***! Vorkstag is a skin walker! Be careful, he's sneaky like Drosil and he'll steal your flesh! Utterly distasteful!" he warns the rest of the group.

The witch continues his flight to the far corner of the room, hoping to stay out of range of any acid bombs if he emerges from invisibility.

He shakes his head in consternation at the bubble of darkness permeating the center of the room. We'll have to deal with that. He brims with excitement at having a chance to try out one of his latest magical acquisitions. He rubs his hands together vigorously until friction renders them quite hot. He then holds out his hands and sends moving images of little giggling fairies toward the darkness. The wee tricksters encircle the darkened area, working feverishly to remove the shadows. "WERQ!" Tibideau shouts encouragingly, snapping his fingers in a "Z" shape in the air. The darkness around Grine fades, revealing him to be some kind of pale scarred humanoid.

Drosil flips past the mongrelman to his left, landing on the rim of the vat like a professional gymnast, then plants one of his daggers in the back of his surprised foe, who then dies.

Janos grimaces as some of the acid splashes on him. Janos uses his longer reach and cuts down the other mongrelman on the vats and then he sees the precarious vats and planks. Knowing his size will be a hindrance to his balance, he leaps down to the lower level, falling to the floor as he lands.

Anton watches as the over-sized Janos cuts down the mongrelman in front of him and then, incredibly, leaps from the platform edge with a snarl.

The archer seizes his opportunity and strides into the room, the air so pungent with alchemical vapours that he almost gags immediately. But the sight of Grine draws his attention immediately as Tibideau dispels his shadowy concealment. "We could have done this peacefully Grine! But now... dead or alive, you are coming with us!" Anton fires on the little man, who ducks under his shot.

Still invisible, but not for long, B'yelka moves into the room. Cautiously, she steps onto the edge of one of the vats, her eyes tearing up from the harsh chemical odor coming up towards her. The diva's scourge reaches out towards the formerly shrouded man-thing perched on the edge of an adjacent vat. Dump him into the goop behind him... All the while her voice keeps the running melody of Helmut moving. He falls flat, but manages to stay on the rim of the vat.

Dantrian hurries forward onto the platform in front of the first large cauldron. With all immediately reachable foes down, he begins descending the ladder at the platform's edge.

Begin Round 3

Vorkstag throws another bomb, this time at the newly visible diva. It hits her right in the face, melting away some of her beauty with a tremendous flash of pain! She topples into the vat of acid with a whimper. The splash from the explosion sizzles across small parts of Drosil and Dantrian's flesh as well.

Grine hops nimbly to his feet, and whips his last throwing axe at the enlarged prone form of Janos on the floor below. The axe lodges itself in the ranger's thigh, which immediately begins throbbing and burning.

Janos falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 You also drop your sword.

Dantrian, you get halfway down the ladder.

Now that you're in the chamber proper....The PCs must make a DC 12 Fortitude save every round they spend in this chamber or be nauseated by the acidic fumes for 1 round.

Throwing axe on Janos: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 and a DC 15 Fort save against poison or take Strength damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Bomb on B'Yelka: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 1 = 23
Damage to B'Yelka: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8
Drosil reflex save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Dantrian reflex save (climbing): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Dan and Drosil take 2 acid damage
B'yelka acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
B'Yelka additional acid damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5) = 8

So 17 total damge to B'Yelka, and she's swimming in acid taking 3d6 per round. Don't forget the fort save against fumes either. Dan and Dros take 2 acid.

Low-light or darkvision both ignore the dim light penalty. Everyone else faces a 20% miss chance (or 50% on Drosil). Both the badguys have dark or lowlight. B'Yelka needs to pass her fort save first to see how many actions she has this round. Then she needs to make a swim check to swim to the edge of the vat/not sink. Then she needs to take a move action to pull herself out onto the rim. Someone else who's strong enough can take a standard action to pull her out if she makes the swim check.

Wow, this room itself is a combatant.

Fort Save (vs. Poison DC 15): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Janos lands awkwardly on his ankle and the increased weight of his body causes him to crumple on the sprain. He slams to the floor, dropping his sword. To add insult to injury, the vapors begin to choke the half-elf. It's all he can do to regain his feet amid his coughing.

So dropping prone gives Janos a +4 to his AC vs. ranged weapons. It's an odd case of involuntary prone, but I think Grine's axe might miss.

So, No progress, but at least she doesn't go under... and she is Nauseated so the Swim attempt was all she got this round.

First of all, your sheet says you're only sixth level for some reason.

You don't add dex or cha to damage, unless I'm missing some ability. I see you have a composite bow which allows for str to be added (in your case up to +2). So this is what it should be...

To-hit: BAB 7, Dex 3, +1 enhancement, +3 charisma (smite), -2 deadly aim, +1 PBS, +2 competence (IC) = +15 to-hit. I would prefer you note it as Attack (PBS, Smite, IC, MagicW): 1d20 + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 11 + 3 + 1 + 2 - 2 = 21, listing each bonus other than your base to-hit of 11 seperately.

Damage:+1 PBS, +7 smite, +1 enhancement, +2 str, +4 deadly aim, +2 competence (IC)= +17 damage. Same for damage please Damage (PBS,Smite,MagicW,DA,IC): 1d8 + 2 + 1 + 7 + 1 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 + 7 + 1 + 4 + 2 = 23

Please go over your sheet thoroughly ASAP and make sure everything is up to date and accurate for seventh level. If you have any questions let me know.

Begin Round 4

Vorkstag laughs as he sees the Diva's beauty destroyed. He hisses when he sees how accurate and damaging Anton's arrow was. The skin stealer throws another bomb, this time aiming for the paladin. It hits Anton directly, coating him in caustic acid, which also splashes all over Dantrian and B'Yelka. The diva totters, nearly slipping back off the narrow rim of the vat! But, she manages to steady herself at the last moment.

Grine grabs a holy symbol of Norgorber, and grinning bloodily speaks a curse in some unknown tongue. A burst of negative energy washes out from him to hit the all of the Ravengro Six, and Vorkstag. B'yelka now more steady on her feet manages to maintain her balance again (because I'm nice and rolled Vorkstag's save before your acrobatics). Grine then tumbles back away from Drosil, just as nimbly as the fetchling, he climbs up the ladder from the vats onto the platform with Vorkstag.

I'm going to say that swim does require two hands, as swimming while also gripping a whip would be much more difficult than not. The skill is silent on the issue. Nope, it's pretty brutal. On a vat you fall in, on a plank you fall down and take falling damage, land prone, drop everything etc. This is an evil room, lol. I just want someone to fall into the bleach now and everything will be perfect.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Dantrian glances from B'yelka to Anton, "She will survive. You will save her and the rest of us further harm if you continue to put that bow of yours to excellent use." He then turns to face the pair of foes harrying them from on high. He shakes his head in disapproval toward them before quickly descending the ladder once more.

Does a double move get me to the bottom of the ladder or further? If further, Dantrian will make a bee-line for the other ladder in J12

Round 4

B'yelka now more steady on her feet manages to maintain her balance again. Grine then tumbles back away from Drosil, just as nimbly as the fetchling, he climbs up the ladder from the vats onto the platform with Vorkstag.

Drosil shrugs off Grine's negative energy channel and looks for a way onto the platform. He follows the little dark creeper, hot on Grine's heels as they race up the ladder to the upper platform.

Then one of Anton's arrows explodes Grine's head, and his body falls off the ladder onto Drosil below him. The nimble rogue flips around to the other side of the ladder just in time to dodge the falling corpse, which tumbles into the vat of bleach below him. Anton's second arrow is rapidly re-aimed at Vorkstag, but Dantrian being in the way messes up his aim and he misses the skin-stealer alchemist.

B'yelka is somewhere between terrified and furious at the turn of events. Her flesh is raw and beginning to swell all over, and her face burns. Her voice is a whimper as she leans on Dantrian, "Thank you...." She works her way around Dantrian and Anton to the clear air outside.

Janos manages to regain his breath from the vapors and he grabs his sword from the ground. The Ranger weaves his way through the vats until he spots the mongrelmen. He points his sword at them and says, "Is there any other way out of this room?" he spots both chymists up above out of the corner of his eye. Four of the terrfied creatures all point to four of the different doors leading out of the production room. Three of the exits are on the upper level, but there is another directly below where Vorkstag stands on the basement level.

Tibideau shakes off the nausea and zips toward the center of the room. Utterly delighted to FINALLY put his abilities to good use, he sings a macabre lullaby, staring menacingly into Vorkstag's eyes. The skin-stealer stares right back and grins.

End Round 4

Begin Round 5

Vorkstag draws a potion and drinks it, disappearing from view.

The ladder in J12 runs from floor to the upper level. E12 is just from the floor to the top of the vats.

Drosil climb: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 Pass

Vorkstag save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

You guys are up. This is the last round if you don't manage to reveal him somehow.

Map

Male Fetchling (World Walker) Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 8 [ HP 65/76 | AC 29/18T/22FF | Fort +6, Ref +13, Will +3 | Init +7 (+2 with panache) | Perception +10 | Panache: 4/4 ]

...are all of the doors on the upper level open or closed? Assuming, for now, that they open.

Drosil finishes climbing the ladder and rushes to the nearest door, closing it.

Move action: Finish climbing ladder, move to door
Move action: Close the door

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

Fort save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Janos looks mongrelmen and glares. "Stay here and don't try anything. We'll release you later." The vapors give him a fit of coughing again, making him sick to his stomach. He barely is able to sheathe his sword.

"Tibi, can you make me smaller again?"

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Here's hoping! For revenge, that is :)

B'yelka having recovered herself knows that it's the way your end the show that will be remembered. The Diva steps back out onto the platform and begins a stream of curses and epitaphs aimed at the villains, "You are less than a moth ridden fungus infested codpiece worn by a flea infested ogre!" She pushes part of anger into the words and releases it.

5'step to K7 and cast Blistering Invective needs an Intimidate check: Intim!: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29. If I beat the DC (10+HD+WIS mod) he is Shaken for one round plus one round per five I beat the DC by (per Intimidate) and takes Fire Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 1. Assuming the intimidate works, he is forced to make a DC17 REF save or catch on fire. I am hoping that even without failing the save, he will be revealed long enough for our guys to get on him quickly enough!

Male Human Paladin 8 | HP 36/53 (68)| AC 18 FF 15 T13 | Saves +11/+10/+10 | Init + 4 | Percep + 2 | Dip +14 | SM +10 | KR +6 | Heal +3 | HA +7 | HePo =0

Anton will just delay his action until Volkstag is revealed, at which point he will smite and full attack

B'yelka and Drosil both need fort saves for the fumes =(

Dantrian, unaware of Vorkstag's vanishing, hurries onward and begins to follow Drosil up the ladder.

Tibideau shrugs his shoulders listlessly at Janos's request, clutching his stomach again as more waves of nausea wash over him. "Sorry, bud," he replies meekly.

Fly check against DC 15 to hover: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

Nooooooooooo! No chance for Glitterdust :( Also I'm in G9, not over a vat of acid/bleach :)

He may or may not have caught on fire, but that doesn't remove his invisibility. So, Vorkstag escapes and the combat is over.

Also, I forgot that Grine exploded in a flash of light when he died, possibly (and irrelevantly) blinding people.

470 EXP each.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

Janos is reaching for his bow, but finds no sign of Vorkstag anymore. He coughs as the vapors continue to choke him, but without the pace of combat, it's a little easier to breathe. He looks at the mogrelmen. "Where do those doors lead? Where would Vorkstag go?!"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

I understood that something that gives off light may be invisible, but the light is still visible, thus revealing the (burning?) Vorkstag's location...

PRD sez wrote:
An invisible burning torch still gives off light, as does an invisible object with a light or similar spell cast upon it.

As the battle lulls, B'yelka steps back outside of the vapors and quietly whistles a tune to sooth her seriously burned skin.

Step outside and cast Cure Light Wounds. CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Blistering invective doesn't say anything about the fire giving off light, and while that may a technicality, I think that making blistering invective effectively a hearing range remove invis effect is way overpowered and not the intent of the spell. Compare it to glitterdust which is also a 2nd level bard spell, where it forces you to target a small area and specifically mentions defeating invisibility. The text you're citing is intended to prevent someone from carrying a light source for themselves or their party while invisible, not to make anything that does fire damage remove invisibility. Plus, I think it'll be fun to have the possibility for a reoccurring villain. You still got Grine, and are ending their operation in Lepidstadt.

The mongrelmen don't really know how to answer Janos, and just stammer in terror. "We just work here! We don't know anything we don't need to know. Please, let us go. Them force us to stay here and work all the time."

Dantrian finishes his assent of the ladder and looks around briefly before turning to Drosil, "What happened? Where is Vorkstag?"
