"But there is paperwork and a process and it must be approved. It is not possible otherwise."

I hear ya. I had a friend who one time was trying to get a replacement cell phone prorated. The German shop said that without a stamp on his forms, it wouldn't go through. They kept insisting it must be stamped. He went home and stamped it with his kid's Mickey Mouse stamp. He too it back and they looked at it, shrugged, and said "It is a stamp." Cell phone was delivered two days later.

Seid ihr alle Deutsche? Sounds like China with the stamps. Everything here (I live in China) has to be stamped by 5 million different people. The only thing red about red China is all the damn stamps and red tape.

Honestly though, in vaunted non-union America where the customer service is supposedly so good I used to work for Verizon's internet branch and we always had people waiting like that. That's just how they do internet installations. Don't get me wrong, it sucks, but it sucks everywhere.

Male Fetchling (World Walker) Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 8 [ HP 65/76 | AC 29/18T/22FF | Fort +6, Ref +13, Will +3 | Init +7 (+2 with panache) | Perception +10 | Panache: 4/4 ]

While I did spend a few years in Germany as a kid, and try to reason through what little I remember of the language when I come up against it, I'm actually American. Still, though - I feel your pain when it comes to customer service...best of luck.

Somehow I doubt they'd be as accomodating if, when they ask you for monthly payment, your response was, "Perhaps in a month. Thank you for your patience." =\

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

lol @ Dantrian. I'm not paying unless you give ME stamps!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

It's bad enough I have to pay in Euros, not dollars! I don't want to make them mad! Seriously, though, my wife (fluent german speaker) is trying to chew through the walls of resistance ;)

I can speak German too. Always fun to get some practice, but I guess none of you are German after all.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Ich bin ein Americanisch Soldat. Diese ist meine zweite (time) leben am Deutschland.

(Broken, but I try ;) )

Achso. Ich wohnte nur ein mal in Deutschland, aber für ein Jahr. In case that doesn't make sense, I lived there for a year after highschool. Studied it quite a bit though. Your German's not bad for someone who lives on a base (I assume you live on a base).

retired (arc completed)

I hab deutsch fur funfzehn Jahren nicht gesprochen.

That may be horribly conjugated and quite wrong, but I took 4 years of German in highschool and haven't really used it since. I visited Switzerland in the Fall of 09, and it certainly helped me get around and purchase groceries and rooms and train tickets, but I don't know that I had to ever make a complete sentence =P

Except for saying I instead of ich and leaving the umlaut off für that's right. I used to be fluent, but now I never speak it so I make a lot more mistakes. I've got a German player who's in two of my other games who was practicing with me, but not any more. I guess you're actually not allowed to speak in other languages on Paizo's boards. At least full-time anyway. That's what he told me.

retired (arc completed)

Yeah, other languages tend to be a no-no here. I suspect it's because they can't really moderate it well or easily.

And I meant to type "Ich" instead of "I", and evertime I re-read it, I read it in my head as "Ich". As for the umlaut, I blame my keyboard and my not knowing how to make it make one =)

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

My wife and I live off post, but when I lived here before I travelled a lot. It was a positive eyeopener to remember how much I love live music ;) and festival season it is constant :)

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Being new to the PBP style, I was not sure if it was ok to give a little action to the acolyte to move the narrative along... please let me know if that is a no-no!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Just an FYI, I will be going to the field the first half of February. I will try to post, but if I am unable, please don't lety me slow it down!

Also, I should have internet in the house when I get home :)

Be safe! I'll DMPC as necessary.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

How do you want Hit Points, GM?

And Janos has to choose his Combat Style at level 2. Originally I wanted him as a Switch Hitter, and I still wouldn't mind him having some ranged ability, but I'm willing to consider Two-Handed Weapon Style. There just doesn't seem to be much options on that later on.

Half hit dice+1+con mod. d10 = 6HP+Con

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

Janos, just in case it factors into your decision making, I took Enlarge Person and I plan to use it on you when we fight any big baddies. And whenever we get some cash I'm going to be buying some scrolls of Enlarge Person, too.

regarding additional days in the library: I think it'd be a good idea to know as much as we possibly could about these noteworthy prisoners and I think it'd be worth it to invest the extra days in doing the research.

Those not reading up in the church's library could maybe check out the false crypt Kendra's translation uncovered?

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

So I've been reading my patron spells over again and while they're good boosts to the party, I'm realizing that a few of the more important bonuses don't stack with B'yelka's bardy stuff. Is it possible to review the witch patrons again and choose something else at this stage?

Male Fetchling (World Walker) Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 8 [ HP 65/76 | AC 29/18T/22FF | Fort +6, Ref +13, Will +3 | Init +7 (+2 with panache) | Perception +10 | Panache: 4/4 ]

Drosil took a rank in Kn:Local as well as Linguistics, so should be able to help by decoding the locked book as well as some knowledge rolls.

I'll go ahead and do this as a one time thing. Since we've been playing a little bit now, feel free to change basically ANYTHING about your characters mechanically as you level up. Race, and name need to stay the same, as well as general party role. But if you feel like you made a mistake with a feat, or class feature choice etc, feel free to change it. Please post any changes here. This opportunity will not come again, so think it over carefully.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

Went with the Archery combat style. Ultimately, I didn't see the great benefit of the Two-Handed style, and only Anton has real ranged capability.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

I will have a shiny new B'yelka posted sometime this weekend. Expect skill ranks in Knowledge local or history, but notthing else. After all, why learn when you can sing like this?

Tibi, B'yelka's Inspire Courage is a Competence bonus. Is that overlapping your buff spells?

New spell for sure will be Cure Light Wounds ;) Eventually Blur to prevent our mediocre ACs from meaning as much :p

retired (arc completed)

@Janos, I think Archery's a really good choice. I found the 2-handed style a bit underwhelming =\

In addition to B'yelka picking up cure light wounds, if we have any gp's to spare I can brew potions of it for the group whenever we need.

It takes 2 hours and 25gp for me to brew one up at Caster Level 1.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

Can't wait to see Dantrian wolf-out during the next fight. Or our reactions to it.

Male Fetchling (World Walker) Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 8 [ HP 65/76 | AC 29/18T/22FF | Fort +6, Ref +13, Will +3 | Init +7 (+2 with panache) | Perception +10 | Panache: 4/4 ]

I'll go ahead and take advantage of the recreate, and thanks for the opportunity.

Drosil will change the following at Level 1:

-2 Int (14->12, 3 points)
-1 Cha (13->12, 1 point)
+1 Dex (14->15, 2 points)
+1 Str (13->14, 2 points)
-1 Disguise (to account for Int drop)
Lose Aklo as a language (to account for Int drop)
-1 Diplomacy (Favored Class Bonus)
+1 HP (Favored Class Bonus)
Drop Weapon Finesse
Take Two-Weapon Fighting
Alter Linguistics extra language: Goblin -> Varisian
Exchange Rapier (20gp) for 2 Shortswords (20gp)

Drosil will change in the following ways for Level 2:

Class Feature: Evasion
Rogue Talent: Finesse Rogue
+7 HP (d8+1, +1 Con, +1 FCB)
+1 BAB
+1 Reflex Save

Skills (9)
+1 Acrobatics
+1 Bluff
+1 Disable Device
+1 Escape Artist
+1 Knowledge (Local)
+1 Perception
+1 Sense Motive
+1 Sleight of Hand
+1 Stealth

I think that's got it...if anyone has any suggestions of different skill distributions or anything, feel free to suggest something.

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

@B'yelka - the competence bonus doesn't overlap, but most of the Ancestor patron spells are morale bonuses that do overlap with some of your stuff. My main issue is with my level 8 spell (I know, a long way off for now) which is Fervor. Fervor doesn't stack with Haste, making it virtually useless since I assume you'll take haste at level 5?

@Dantrian - I also took Infernal Healing, so we're covered more in the healing department.

@Drosil - I took Linguistics, too, so we'll be a super code-busting machine!

I'm going to take the time to look over the patrons later today and tomorrow and choose a new one. Besides the patron issue, Level 2 Tibideau is ready to go!

retired (arc completed)

I hadn't looked at Tibideau's patron before, but I can honestly say I'd assumed it was Enchantment. Spells like unnatural lust, unadulterated loathing, and overwhelming grief seem to fit really well with his melodramatic personality. =P

If that doesn't interest you, Occult and Spirits might be two other patrons that'd probably fit really well within the overall setting. Especially Spirits since it gets you ghostbane dirge and speak with dead.

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

I was thinking Strength might be good, it has some nice buffs with only one relatively minor overlap with B'yelka's stuff. I'll take another look at Occult and Spirits. If anyone else has some good suggestions let me know!

Enchantment is definitely Tibideau's style! But he's more complicated than he seems :)

Male Human Paladin 8 | HP 36/53 (68)| AC 18 FF 15 T13 | Saves +11/+10/+10 | Init + 4 | Percep + 2 | Dip +14 | SM +10 | KR +6 | Heal +3 | HA +7 | HePo =0

GM how far can I go with the recreate? I'm thinking of keeping exactly the same role but think I would prefer Paladin to inquisitor in the long run, I think it would generally better suit my play style of diplomacy over intimidate (I'm a lover not a fighter!)

Plus I'm already playing him like a pally I think, outraged at the attack at the gravesite etc

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

I will go with the Occult ancestor. Seems Tibideau's Great-great-great-great-great Aunt Bernadette had some dark secrets!

Male Human Paladin 8 | HP 36/53 (68)| AC 18 FF 15 T13 | Saves +11/+10/+10 | Init + 4 | Percep + 2 | Dip +14 | SM +10 | KR +6 | Heal +3 | HA +7 | HePo =0

There's a black sheep in every family I guess :)

To quote myself " Race, and name need to stay the same, as well as general party role."

You can change anything else. Go for the paladin, honestly I think this party could use another full BAB class over an Inquisitor anyway. You'll still have an Alchemist and Bard. Paladin can pull off switch hitter better as well.

Nothing beats a 16+ Str 16 Dex character with full BAB. You've got a good AC, great melee damage, and still good ranged damage. (Assuming two-handed weapon, breastplate and composite longbow).

Anyway, go for it! Your smite evil and lay on hands will definitely see some use.

retired (arc completed)

That, and Drosil and I will really appreciate having as many flanking pals as we can get. Me especially when my mutagen is running!

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

Er, I mean occult patron, not ancestor. For some reason, since I had the ancestor patron before, now my brain thinks patrons are called ancestors.

Anton has undergone some significant changes. He is now a Paladin with some ability adjustments and better skills in diplomacy and sense motive. He can no longer be a sneaky backup, sorry Drosil, but our healing capabilities have certainly been upped. He can switch hit but his focus is still going to be on ranged damage output.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

GM, would Dantrian have had the time and access to the supplies to have made a potion during the two days? Janos has some spare cash and I would love to have a potion of Cure Light when we head into the prison.

Dantrian, you're still willing, right?

retired (arc completed)

Absolutely!

He needs to spend eight hours in the library each of the two days, and eight hours sleeping, but the other eight are open. Don't know how long it take to make a potion and don't have time to look it up right now.

retired (arc completed)

2 hours and 25 gp to brew a cure light wounds at CL1. Time stays the same but the cost bumps to 50 gp if it's CL2.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

Janos only has 35gp right now, so a CL1 will do. And after living with his Witch mentor, he's sooo glad to have someone making potions for him. :-)

Male Human Witch 7 | HP 44 | AC 14 (18 w/ Mage Armor) FF 12 T 14 | Saves F+3/R+5/W+4 | Init + 5 | Percep +7

Made one more change. I put my ability focus on Misfortune instead of Slumber, since it's more useful against undead. But I'll just take the Ability Focus feat again at level 3 and put it on Slumber. I know we'll run into something with a mind eventually!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

New B'yelka is up under her profile. Took a rank of Linguistics, more to learn Varisian than anything else ;) Bluff and Sense Motive are +12 due to Versatile Performance with Sing. Added Knowledge (Local) and bumped most of her other skills.

Tibi: I have always thought PCs should be immune to mind affecting magics. After all they do some brain dead stuff!

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

What skill would writing music be? Craft: music? Or, lyrics?

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

I don't think it would be Craft at all. Craft is creating more tangible things like books, wagons, horseshoes, etc. Songwriting is more of an artistic, mental endeavor. While you write the music down on paper, that's not really what you're creating. You're creating the song, and you can't touch that.

If it's not already encompassed in Perform: Sing (which I think it could be), then I think it would be Profession: Singer/Songwriter. You're splitting hairs between the ability to sing well and the ability to create the music, but we all know some singers can't write, they just perform the songs, and many, many songwriters can't sing very well.

retired (arc completed)

Janos beat me to it; Profession: Poet/Writer/Songwriter/etc is exactly how I'd handle it too.

Why don't we call it Profession:Musician
