"I have not seen the like of these before, Gabe. But the crude fetishes appear to be a warning. We must leave this place quickly. Remember, do not touch or take anything from the trees." The last was for all the companions.

Aneira wondered at the danger to come. They could not turn back without Lady Argentea or knowledge of her fate. So, they had to proceed forward, carefully.

"Be mindful as you move."

Yes dear, leave the fetishes and trees alone. Got it
. Perhaps we should have a bit more separation between us in case of another surprise log or something similar. Keep a step apart. We would still be close enough to help someone but not too close to all get hit. Just trying to look after you and keep you from getting hurt any more. The same would go for the rest of us as well. Keep a bit of distance if possible.

All of a sudden, several needle like arrows come zooming out of the trees. One striking each of Variel, Gabe, and Aneira. Looking around you all can see a trio of little sprite like creatures, ice blue and looking like tiny elves with translucent white dragonfly wings sprouting from their shoulders. They are each carrying bows. There appears to be two males and one female of them.

Variel, Gabe, and Aneira, I need a Fortitude save from each of you.

K. Nature DC 15:
These creatures are called Atomie but they do not look like normal Atomie, which are normally green skinned. You suspect they are some form of winter touched variation.

K. Nature DC 20:
Atomie have several spell like abilities but you suspect these abilities are different in the winter touched.

K. Nature DC 25:
These Atomie have the ability to cause numbing cold when they hit with their weapons causing creatures to become staggered for 1 round.

Gabryjel does not know what these are, but he guesses they are a variation of Fey.

He has no quarrel with most Fey, and would rather leave them in peace, but he has been attacked....

You were attacked after moving onto their land - they were in these glades before men roamed the world; they don't need you coming onto their land...

He is frustrated that the Fey did not even listen to Aneira's diplomatic words when she spoke the Sylvan tongue earlier, and wonders at it.

They are likely attacking because they are either afraid or simply following orders... A soldier would protect what he was ordered too... an officer might be diplomatic... It is likely they are only guards and following orders...

But all that aside, how do we get around them safely without offending their land?

GM - is there a way for Gabe to get the horse and himself out of the area and still move up the path toward our target safely? In other words, Gaberyjel feels like he is trespassing on some sort of Native American burial ground and he'd probably just move out of there quickly.

But I'm at the back of the party and I have a horse and travois I'm pulling. If I can move that stuff around the area safely, I will. Also, you mentioned snow drifts before - does that hamper our movement speed in any way, if so, how much? Finally - how fast can the horse move while hauling roughly 200 lbs of gear - I think that's a "light load" for a horse, but I'm not sure how it effects movement; especially in the snow.

Current map you are on is at the top. Gabe you do not have room to move through the group to get out. The trail only has enough room to go single file without going into the forest itself and you wont be able to do that with the horse very easily. As it is all movement right now is considered doubled unless you have an ability that allows free movement in the snow.


Okay, I can't move the horse forward until the other guys go/act. I'll delay action to see what they do first, then. Here's hoping I'm not poisoned via the Fortitude Roll, though...

Also, how much damage did I take from the arrow itself. I'm currently down by four?

Variel delays looking towards Aneira as to the next course of action. He knows she is knowledgeable about the fey and is waiting for her to indicate the proper course of action. If she indicates that they need to be killed, then Variel will move and cast acid splash.

Variel, you are staggered for one round which means you can take either a move or a standard action but not both. Also, no she can't that was for a different check.

Xanxan your attack does hit, though it doesn't seem to have as much of an effect as it should it still seems to have done some damage.

Beck, a scimitar is not a "small, stowed object" a dagger I could consider but a scimitar is a medium weapon and too big for your tail to draw.

Just an FYI for everyone since I'm not sure if this was clear but they are flying creatures and as such are literally "in the trees" and so not at ground level. That's why they are in the trees on the map. They are each about 15' above the ground.

Snow & Ice Movement for Aneira:
Child of Winter (Ex) Revelation: You gain the constant benefit of endure elements, but only against cold temperatures. You can move across regular snow without penalty, and heavy snow costs you only 2 squares of movement instead of 4. You can move across icy surfaces without penalty, and never need to make Acrobatics checks to run or charge on ice. You leave no trail in ice or snow, and cannot be tracked (you may choose to leave a trail if you so desire).

In Sylvan, she calls out again, louder this time, so as to be heard, "Winter-touched Atomie, I told you, when we came across your fetishes in the trees, that we meant you no harm, but you attack us once we pass. What is it that you want?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 Wow, I'm majorly sucking at these dip rolls ... sigh

Taking a bolt and loading her light crossbow, she readies her weapon in case of another attack (light crossbow pointed at Atomie at B:2 since it's the closest one to her) and holds. If she hears no answer, then she will fire.

Te poison coursing through his body, variel gives Beck a look of exasperation. Really, i would not have guessed after eing hit with one and feel like my body is about to give out.

With just a single move then Variel will go to E5 to give Aneira cover from one of them at least. Plus he should be able to make it to the tree next round.

Not really wanting to attack the enemies, and because he can't draw a weapon and attack, Gabryjel will simply draw a weapon for next round, hoping he doesn't have to use it.

At this time he had no weapons out as he was leading the horse.

I'll wait for next round to attack, though - I'm hoping we don't need to, but I will if necessary.

The sprites look at you all and the female one says in a tiny voice like tinkling ice. Oh of course excuse us...please proceed...our mistake. Her voice is dripping with malevolence and sarcasm however and she darts forward in a blur of fluttering white wings and unleashes a clashing horde of glittering colors and movement, attempting to overwhelm your senses. At the same time her companions do the same thing.

All of you are hit with at least one Color Spray. I need will saves from everyone. Venja attempts to shoot one of them as they come close.1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 but misses.

Beck your readied action can go off as the Atomie comes close to hit you with a color spray but will not get the chance to interrupt the spell itself as you said the readied action goes off when they come close and not when they cast a spell. Still with a good enough roll you could conceivably drop it.

You asked for it. She tried to be nice to you but now you attacked her again for the second time. Now you die.

Variel draws his cold iron rapier as the silver does less damage, (not trying to metagame here but silver weapons automatically do 1 less damage, since he has a cold iron rapier, Variel doesn't even have a regular rapier)) and slashes down at the fey threatening himself. Hopefully he can down this one before it can get off another attack on the group. Venja was hit hard but Anee and Gabe managed to throw off the effects.

Xanxan and Gabe slump to the ground unconscious. Xanxan you will be unconscious for 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 rds, then blind and stunned for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rds, then stunned for 1 rd...but then you will get to act! :-)

Well, it looks like I'm pretty much out of this battle since I can't imagine it will last more than 9 rounds.

Beck cracks his neck and seems to scrunch down to a smaller size, his cloths and gear becoming smaller as well, loading another bullet in his sling.

Sheelah's Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 Sheelah paces agitated, and moves toward Beck and Xanxan at a whistle from Beck ordering her to go Defend them.

Standard: Using Alter Self to become a small creature getting AC to 18: 10+3 dex+3armor+1shield+1size cause using wooden armor for movement. Ref -> +3

Venja turns to Variel and says I am awake Variel, thank you but I can only use that ability for a certain amount of time per day as it exhausts me to do so.

Turning, she loads and fires another crossbow bolt at the creatures.

Var, that ability can only be used for a number of minutes per day up to your level but must be used in 1 minute increments so she is used up for the day.

Yep as you would have known that you couldn't do it. Had you failed the check I would have made you figure it out by not being able to wake them no matter what you did.

Nah these guys only do 1 damage max so it will be a while before a tpk. It won't take a whole lot to scare them off. You just need the right trigger.

Sick and tired of this fiasco, Variel continues to throw acid splashes at the fey hoping tht one of them will eventually connect and damage the fey.

Beck Shakes off the poison and glances around at his friends, two of whome unconcious and hearing their wretched insults, Beck pulls out all the stops, casting Produce Flame, Brandishing it at them, saying "Last chance you little wretched little . . . wretches!"

He will then hurl the ball of flame at one if the buggers if they don't immediately flee.

Aneira shakes off the poison from the Atomie's second arrow. Her light blue eyes fill with a certain fierceness now, but she holds her tongue.

Loading a new bolt to her light crossbow, she fires at the Atomie that Beck is attacking. (Assuming it's the one he's closest to, at C:10?)

Gabryjel is now in "round 2" - still unconscious.

While his body is dormant, it is clear that his cognitive powers are still functioning on a subconscious level, as he may be entering a variation of dreaming....

As soon as Beck begins brandishing fire, the little sprites scatter, their luminosity dimming as they flee into the trees.

Hey all. I'm having a horrifically bad week so please bear with me if things are slow. Accidentally dropped my tablet and shattered the screen, when I called renters insurance they told me that a couple of years ago they changed my deductible from $0 to $250 so it does me absolutely no good. Whole family is sick with some sort of cold. That coupled with work driving me nuts as people keep asking me to do additional projects then are surprised when my normal functions aren't done as quickly as they usually are. Just very tired and frustrated. Sorry for venting.
