Horatio, as a Swift Action reactivates his “Archeologist’s Luck”.

Still holding his pistol – he raises it and fires at the officer as an Attack Action.

Attack with pistol: +1 for Archeologist’s Luck, +1 for Freebooters bane, +1 for BAB +3 for Dexterity Modifier to Range, -1 for Deadly Aim, -4 as she is in “Melee Combat” with allies. As she is within the first Range Increment of the pistol - he only needs a "Touch Attack" against her.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

IF it hits –
1d8 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + 2 = 10

Miss chance – 1-80 hits – 81-100 misses.
1d100 ⇒ 22

Then – he stuffs his pistol into his belt.

Edit: Okay - unless she has a Dexterity of OMG - than I think that hits her. So yeah - that should be 10 damage. If it misses, than I am very nervous...

Waiting for others to distract the leader, Dhaavan takes a single step forward and without even uttering an arcane word, whips an Acid Orb at R10 in order to distract him from his task.

1d20 + 3 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 4 - 2 = 13
1d3 ⇒ 2
1d100 ⇒ 97

He also calls to Variel, "Take this one. I got a better shot at his mate!"

I included the penalty for firing into melee, but nothing for Cover.

Quick note - I moved Rain to 7:P, no one was there at the time. I refreshed it just now, but now she is no longer on the map. Valeros is there now. Was that an error? Or did Valeros make a move to that point? The last point I saw Valeros he was "on the stairs" - but now he isn't, so I'm a bit confused.

Variel you did get hit by the AoO as your Acrobatics check did not beat her CMD. You took 10 damage from the hit.

Seijiro, your attack hits and the sailor near you is unable to get the knot untied this round.

Sko...yeah you miss ;-)

Horatio, that definitely hits.

Dhaavan, your orb hits easily and disrupts the sailors concentration.

Valeros, seeing Variel take that big hit, moves over and places his hands upon his shoulders and a feeling like warm water breaks over Variel as his wounds knit closed. Cure Light Wounds 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Ret-con with Rain

Rain will move to 5:P and attack the leader with her Trident.

This has a 10 foot reach – the officer is 10 feet away by “tactics” – so she should be able to hit her with the trident.

1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 = 22

Horatio’s eyes narrow at the attack from this woman.

He uses Acrobatics to move into range with her, attempting to avoid an AoO (if possible) to 5:0 (this is a 15 foot movement for Horatio – so he should be able to do it with some ease).

Acrobatics Check
1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 1 = 22.

NOTE: Archeologist's Luck is now done.

If I need a "Miss Chance". 1-80 hits, 81-100 misses.

Variel continues to attack the Rahadoumi soldier in front if him hoping to finish the soldier off and turn the corner to keep them away from the boat. Alas his aim is off after being hit by the woman and subsequently healed by Valeros. Thanks for keeping me up Valeros. I owe you one next time.

Dude - either way - what's the base damage? I'm also pretty sure you hit, because Rain and I hit - and we hit with a 17 touch attack, and a 22 normal. And right now she's suffered 18 damage already. When you do your attack - remember to add in a +1 to damage for Freebooter's Bane - as it's still up.

Flynn, next time don't burn Rain's actions healing. SHe's one of our primary damage dealers and others like Valeros or someone that does less damage, like Dhaavan can provide the heals. I know you get jumpy about getting the game moving, but DPR should DPR, and let support do support...

Also, the GM mentioned using the decks, and when I fumbled, he had me roll to check if it confirmed and i had to draw from the deck. SO mention getting a crit and ask about the card.

I'll keep that in mind for next time. But I am also trying to keep Rain's personality in play. Everything I know about her personality suggests to me that the first thing she'd do if anyone went down would be to stabilize them if she could - or heal them if she could. She would have done the same for anyone else in the party, I would think.

Meanwhile - who knows, maybe Horatio managed to hit. If so - it may not be a total loss. If not - Dhavaan can always attack, too - so can Jack, or he could move to flank with someone. Either way - I guess it's your move, now.

FYI - anyone who uses a firearm can make a ranged touch attack in the first range increment - whether they are proficient with the firearm or not. Sadly - my pistol is not loaded now. But it's a good weapon for Dhaavan to have - in a pinch. If we get the loot - I'll craft you one, if I can, and if you want it.

Looks like a Crit, and hopefully the officer is dropped. Hopefully the Soldier that DHaavan touch-o-fatigue fails his save, and is easier to hit, and I can get someone else with it.

While he attacks the Rahadoumi with necromantic energy, Dhaavan turns and says to Rain as she rises from healing Flynn, "Next time someone drops, I'll give 'em the drink. Rain, still crouched over Horatio - her eyes fierce, watching the fight, even as his sword stroke went hard out at an enemy is not who he managed to attack, nor if he even managed to hit his target.

Her mind is stressed, and her patience frayed, at Dhaavan's words she snaps back at him -

"Aye - then it would best if next time you advanced to do so! This is battle and bloodshed - when action is called for, not pithy remarks!" she retorts hotly, her voice tight even as her eyes scan the others in front of her.

Looking up at the pirate next to her, she adds in a loud voice -

"But if he does not fall now - I shall finish him myself!"

Is Rain able to Intimidate this guy this round, too? Please let me know. Thank you!

Right - so if Jiro confirmed than the officer suffered a total of 29 damage, plus a critical deck draw. If that didn't drop her, I would have taken a poke at her too (but I think it missed - my total was a 15 against her, but only a 14 against the pirates, as I don't have Freebooters Bane on; also - I would have only done 6 damage on him). However, if the officer did go down, than my attack would have been to the same person that you hit with "Touch of Fatigue" - that is - if you hit...

GM - sorry for the recap - just trying make this a little easier for you to track.

After the Officer stabs Horatio viciously through the arm causing him to pass out from the pain, Seijiro does a standing backflip over everyone's head to land behind her...where the tricky thief then plants his rapier solidly in the Officer's back, dropping her immediately.

Horatio's attack hits his man from the ground, slashing him across the leg.

Dhaavan, your negative energy flows into the man and he slumps down, the magic taking its effect.

The remaining sailors throw down their weapons and say We surrender!

I'm going to take us off of round by round now. The battle will end after a total of 16 rounds. I am going to skip over most of those but I want you all to get the opportunity to do anything before I wrap up.

Seijiro breathes a sigh of relief... it was a risky, stupid move to go after the officer when he had an opponent in front of him. But it seemed the best move in hindsight, having Variel to flank with gave him a chance to place his weapon where he wanted it to be for the most possible damage. Watching Variel try to save her, he scowls a little, then shrugs. She did fight valiantly, and Variel was right, no need for her to die, if it wasn't necessary.

He cleans his blade and sheathes it, then limps toward the others, his own wounds hurting, but nothing life threatening if the battle was over. "Dhaavan-san, thanks for the timely spell that took that guy down, it gave me the opening I needed... Flynn-san, you've looked better, but glad to see you are on your feet again."

He looks to Variel and shrugs... "Not likely we'll be able to keep anything we find here... the officers will prob'ly just take it all anyway." Still, he kicks the officer's weapons away from her and into a pile toward Dhaavan so he can take a look at them. Then he checks her for pockets or pouches... any place cash might be hidden on her. While not hiding his activities from the party, he is trying to make sure he's not observed by any of the officers from the Wormwood. stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Once done, he slips back up and stands by the wheel, since their objective was to take it and hold it... at least until Rain can come take over. The ship isn't going anywhere, grappled to the Wormwood as it is, but if everyone is gathered on the main deck tending wounds and rifling bodies, we might be seen as neglecting our duties and I want to avoid getting lashed at the bloody hour. He has one hand on the wheel and the other holding his now clean rapier, just in case there's more trouble.

I pull myself up to my feet, still clutching my rapier.

Quickly glancing to Jiro, I talk fast; speaking in Elven so that I know that Rain, Jiro and Variel at least will understand me – gambling that the pirates won’t know my words –

IN ELVEN - with some pidgin EASTERN* mixed in to Jiro, but so all that can speak ELVEN will understand me -

Arigato Jiro-san – for what it’s worth,” I say with a quick bow at Jiro’s kindness – then add – ”Harrigan came out of the aft cabin a moment ago feasting on a bloody heart. But the door was shut – though I doubt he locked it; but what of it? You know how to open locks, eh? Now, I’d venture we have a moment or two – do you think you could check it out? Maybe see if there’s anything worth salvaging in there that he may have missed? He was in there less then 30 seconds; he may have missed something useful that you could hide easily but we could use later – a few gems, something like that. Try to be observant as possible – charts, logbooks – that would be useful – but any spare loot wouldn’t hurt either, especially if it's pocket sized,” I add, giving the young lad a quick nod and glance at the cabin behind us.

”If you take Dhaavan with you – he can aid you in your search – especially with using his ability to Detect Magic on the room; maybe finding something hidden that could be really worth it because the spell detects magical aura's - even behind secret compartments. Again – smaller is better; easier to hide. The captain won’t notice that he missed a rare, palm-sized item like a gem or jewel. If we hold it – it could be useful later, eh? I add, cleaning the gore off my rapier and sheathing it quickly as I talk.

I turn to Dhaavan, adding quickly in Infernal

Dhaavan, lad, go with Jiro-san – check out the officers cabin for magic gear he may have missed. I can use that spell myself here with this hash on the deck –do what you can to aid Jiro-san in his search – anything you do could help! Quickly – we may only have a minute or so before this battle is finished; the fog dissipates, and they know you’re missed. Now go, quickly,” I say somewhat urgently; knowing time may be short.

Hearing Variel’s words, and not knowing the officers condition yet, I see his use of healing on the woman, and nod at the choice.

Not sure if you just made a check to check her status - or to stabilize her. I'm guessing you just checked her status - but I don't know. For now I'm gambling she is alive - but bleeding out. If I'm wrong, and she is already dead, that sucks.

Mister GM - Variel will learn from you if the woman is dead, or bleeding out - when you post, it will effect my actions, possibly in ret-con form. If so - it will probably negate the following actions.

Even so, I quickly switch back to Elven – for Rain and Variel’s benefit. I don’t know if Sko or Valeros can speak it – but we have little time as the officer on the deck – so I talk fast.

”Aye, Variel – my thoughts exactly – but we’ve little my time. I’ve a hunch on what we may do to secure her aid. Trust me – follow my lead –and believe me when I tell you that I hate slavers…” I add in a rush, giving a quick glance at Rain.

I believe this this should have taken – at most – 2 rounds. One to ask if Jiro and Dhaavan can quickly search the aft cabin that Harrigan was in (hopefully they will) even as I sheathe my sword.

We are now on Round 2. I'm speaking now as a Free Action even as I bend over to cast Cure Light Wounds on her – I don’t know what her negative is, though; of even if she is alive. But I’m doing what I can. If she is alive and my spell fails to get her on her feet – I’ll use it a second time – gambling that Valeros can heal the others, if he needs to. I don't want to waste a potion on this - but I want this to happen quickly – I have a plan for this officer, and I don’t want to waste our chance; I know time is of the essence.

NPCing Rain

Hearing Horatio speak to Jiro, she shakes her head in frustration.

How can humans be so… mercenary?

Seeing that Variel is examining the woman, she nods at him gratefully.

That's good of Variel! I am glad he is helping the officer, though she did try to kill us. In fact, he is being more merciful at this point than Horatio is... Even so; the woman did wound him heavily, even dropping him to the point of unconsciousness - Horatio is still likely to be angry about that.

Hearing Horatio continue to talk, she shakes her head.

Still, the doctor is even now talking quickly – he may have a plan up his sleeve. I will not judge him until he finishes his speech, I suppose. But, by the gods – he does have a tendency to go on and on.

On Round 1 Rain will bend next to Variel – and use “Divine Touch” to instantly Stabilize the bleeding officer – not sure if Variel is able to do that – or if it is even necessary at this point, as she may already be dead. But, as Rain stabilized the other pirate on the Forecastle – she’ll do it again here.

Round two for Rain –

After she Stabalizes the wounded officer – she sees Jiro heading toward the con and takes a Free Action to speak to him; again – maintaining some secrecy from the other pirates (she hopes) – for now, trusting in Horatio’s unknown idea at this time.

Calling out to Jiro in Elven

”Ahoy – Jiro-san,” she says quickly ”Horatio is right – the cabin is likely where the officer is stationed and may have valuables in it. If you search it quickly – you may find much more valuable gear – possibly magic gear, if Dhaavan aids you with the search and his ability to Detect Magic – that will find even hidden gear, yes?”

”Don’t worry on the wheel, though – I’ll take the con while you search; but be quick – I’d wager we have little time before the mists and our cover clears and your search is discovered,” she adds quickly.

Then – assuming Jiro and Dhaavan do indeed try the cabin – picking the lock if they need to (though I don’t recall the captain locking it) she will hurry over to the wheel, and man it on Round 2.

Male Human Guns. 1 (Mysterious Stranger), Fighter 1 (Lore Warden), Bard 6 (Archaeologist) - Barbarian 1 (Urban) Mythic (Champion) (AC 20 / HP 82 / F +9, R + 10, W +7 / Ini + 3 / Perc. +16)

During the end of Round 2 I would have cast Cure Light Wounds on the officer specifically. My plan is to convince her that she is doomed – but only by trusting to the “Magnificent Seven” will she be safe. I’m hoping that an officer on this ship can be a valuable ally later.

Rolling Cure Light Wounds – remember; I will do this again – if I need to – depending on her status. If she is – in fact – dead, or too truly wounded – than I would have known it from Variel the moment he examined her – and this plan would be moot.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

If I have to do it a second time. However – if she is still out – then I’m all out of healing spells. And my next action with her would take place – not on Round 3 – but Round 4. Second attempt – if I need to:
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

During the same time – when Rain is sure the wheel is steady – she gambles that the men who surrendered would not need to be tied – their officer is dead; the have nothing to gain by attempting a last ditch plan to “fight to the end”. So she takes the time to search anyone else on the Sterncastle quickly – if she has the time; via a Take 10. If she does not have time to do that, she’ll keep an eye on the wheel; using instead a Take 10 - Profession: Sailor check, to keep the moored ship from drifitng. However, if she can search - she will, but is careful not to injure the body of the stabilized man.

Male Human Guns. 1 (Mysterious Stranger), Fighter 1 (Lore Warden), Bard 6 (Archaeologist) - Barbarian 1 (Urban) Mythic (Champion) (AC 20 / HP 82 / F +9, R + 10, W +7 / Ini + 3 / Perc. +16)

On Round 14 – or 15 – whenever she awakens (I have healed at least 11 health – so, if she was alive at all, at minimum she’d have at least 1 HP) – of course, this assumes that she still lived before I cast this: a point I’d know from Variel’s check, and as soon as the GM can let us know – then I’ll do the following:

When she awakens, I’ll look down on her – my eyes hard.

”You’re awake, eh? You’re alive, then? Good – hear me now – know that we own you. Do you understand? You and all your crew are now under the command of my chief and his men. You belong to us – and your lives hang in the balance.”

”Your men are likely to be spared – but you are a woman – and even more likely you will be “enjoyed” and then killed by the officers of our vessel. But – that doesn’t have to happen. We bested you – we pushed you to the brink, and brought you back from Death’s Gate!”

Whether Harrigan and his officers will really do this or not – I don’t actually know it. I’m assuming it is true. But – I’m also assuming I can persuade the officers on our ship not take such actions, and she’ll be thankful later to all of us for sparing her life just now, and then healing her, and then helping her later.

”If you have any honor at all – swear to me now that you will obey me and the folk you see before you – and we in turn will do everything that we can to make sure you continue to live and do not suffer.”

”Will you accept? Do you offer us your loyalty first – or must we tell our captain to throw you to the sharks? Mind you – I do not wish to do that. So I offer you the choice – will you serve us; knowing we bested you – and brought you back to the living?”

Rolling Diplomacy Check – don’t know here alignment – she is a probable pirate, after all – but I’m guessing she’s not stupid. If this works, she may realize we can protect her from the likes of Plugg, and having her as a secret ally would be a very useful thing.

FORMALLY: I am making a "Request" of her - to obey our collective "commands" first - but to give her final loyalty to "The Magnificent Seven" first - over the rest of the crew. Yes, she'll follow the orders of the Captain and his officers; but when it comes to fighting, or dying for someone - she'll pick us over them. I don't know her current attitude (probably Hostile - but I'm praying it's not, given the fact that if everyone stuck around to "aid me" - at most we'd have is 29; which would only slide her attitude toward "Unfriendly" and not make her Accept the Request. Also - I know that the conditions of the request only last a little while - but if we can swing it - if we have modifiers to swing it - then maybe guys like Dhaavan could persuade her properly later. Meanwhile - if all else fails; I have a back-up plan below under the spoiler.

Guys: If anyone wants to “Aid” me in this – I’d be obliged – as I don’t know her attitude or her Charisma Modifier either. And again – this all assumes she’s even alive.
Diplomacy Check
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

EDIT: Okay - I'm guessing she would have been Hostile - but given the fact that we just saved her life, and brought her back - I'm really hoping she may be better disposed to us. Meanwhile - if anyone wants to Aid me - that would be awesome - the more the better.

This Diplomacy Check would have happened on Round 14 or 15 then – I hope for a positive answer. But even so – on round 15 – or 16 – depending on when she wakes, and when I can do the check (assuming she wakes) – I’ll cast Detect Magic on the stuff – and then let my comrades know quickly what gear that she is magical, as promised (no time for aura’s now – we can do that later). And that wraps up both my actions, and Rain’s – up to Round 16.

If she was dead to begin with – not knowing her full HP – but she shouldn’t have lost any HP after the pirates surrendered – because Rain Stabilized her – assuming she was alive. If not – please Ret-con my actions. I would have used the same tactic on the surviving pirates – instead letting them know we killed their officer – and then used Detect Magic either 1 or 2 rounds in advance; so we’d have time to search for Auras and the Strength of the power.

Also, I'm sorry for all the rapid postings – I’m at home now, and have a little time to take action before I leave for work again.

Last NPC for Rain – hopefully she’ll be back tonight.

Guessing Horatio’s gamble – she speaks rapidly to the woman from her place on the deck; offering support for the general idea – although she is not saying anything in particular that would give the plan away to eavesdroppers.[/ooc]

”They're right – listen to them – they’re giving you a good plan; go with it,” she adds earnestly – backing the idea from the Sterncastle – but offering no specific details; not even sure what Horatio is saying completely from here – but gambling that supporting his idea would be better then doing nothing but manning the helm.

Aid Check via Diplomacy
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Edit: Success, but just by a hair. It looks like Rain can "Aid" Horatio in this plan - whatever his plan is; though she's not sure from here. However, the Aid Check should tap Horatio's Diplomacy up to a 19 - if it matters; hopefully that helps. But again - this assumes that the officer lives. We still don't formally know.

Also, if she's Hostile I don't think it will even matter much; because even if Dhaavan and Jiro remained - and everyone else makes successful "Aid Check" for this venture - the most we can get now is a 29 - which would not beat a Hostile check by more than 5. However - we did just save her life and brought her back from death. Also - the crew already surrendered anyway, and she is likely to be a prisoner - and possibly a slave. I'm hoping that gives us a good Circumstance Bonus here. I'm also hoping that if she swears her first loyalty to us - rather then the other officers on our ship (assuming she has such honor) that it won't matter to her. And so long as she obeys the other officers in matters of Seamenship - it won't matter to our own offices much either, assuming they even know about this plan.

The Plan; for the GM, but anybody who is curious. I'd let you all know as soon as possible, but in private.:

My plan is to get her to treat us the same way any of the Helpful+ crew does at least. My HOPE is that she'll give us her word to obey us - in secret - and follow our commands out of a point of honor (not likely from a pirate, I know - but possible).

If we have her "in our pocket" - she may even know the locations of hidden ports, buried treasure, and other secrets from her former ship - all of it could be very useful to "The Magnificent Seven". Worst case scenario - if she joins us, but isn't allowed to "stick with us", because of bad rolls, or because our officers refuse to let her "tag along" - we could - theoretically - pool our resources to "buy" her as a "slave", as a part of our spoils.

Horatio hates slavery - and knows most of the crew does, too. But he would also know that if she was "our slave" - she is "our property" and making her "our property" - at least temporarily - is the safest way to protect her form the likes of Plugg. If he abuses or "damages our property" - hopefully that is akin to "stealing" her. And I know that "stealing" is not tolerated. As she would be "our property", we could protect her. And I want to protect her - because having an officer from another ship as an ally could be very useful later for us. This last option is the worst case scenario - so I hope we don't need to "buy" her - as I don't know what slaves cost. But it is the safest way to protect her, and I'd recommend it to the gang in private - giving my reasons then.

And yes - Horatio would be all about protecting female prisoners on a pirate ship, even one's who tried to kill him. His logic is that killing her in combat would have been much better then letting her be Plugg's plaything - plus, as she is an officer - she might know a lot of stuff to help our gang.

To clarify the staunching of wounds followed by a heal check was to stabilize the woman.

After hearing from Dhaavan that the pike was magical, Variel's eyes light up the question now was how to hide this item and keep it for themselves rather than lt the officers get to it. Not many options come to mind quickly so Variel attempts the open approach and holds it in plain sight. Keeping the prisoners within reach, Variel keeps watch waiting for further surprise attacks.

To the GM:

Okay - so I'm clear - this was an autofail thing here, yes?

I only ask because we got her nasty action to people with weapons that could kill her again, even after she's already been "dead". Never mind her casual decision to just waltz off away from us, with no particular concern about things.

I'm not sure how stupid she is - but if we were actually pirates, then I would have just killed her right now. And I doubt very much she was any kind of an officer of quality. If she was, she wouldn't be dumb enough to piss people off who already "killed" her - because after we kill her a second time - we'll likely kill her men, too.

Maybe she's some person so filled with "pride and honor" that she refuses to live as a slave. But that doesn't make sense either, because if that was the case, and she really wanted to "die honorably", after suggesting she is a slave - she could have just attacked me, and that would have been that. But instead - she doesn't - so now we either kill her and her men for her insolence - or we let them live.

To let her live would demonstrate we were weak. To kill her would be correct; but it seems like a big waste of time, though.

Meanwhile, the reason I am just going to assume it was it must be an automatic fail, though, as she took her action before Valeros, Jiro, or Variel even had a chance to go. Perhaps they may have aided me - perhaps not. Perhaps their aid checks may have been successful, perhaps not. And in any case - it seems clear that a prisoner has the ability to simply walk away with "her crew" - who only moments ago were cowed into surrendering, but now are able to stand against the rail - not prisoners, but seemingly comfortable.

In any case, I'm clear the action failed at this time then, no matter what would have happened at this point.
