I just checked; it's true - it seems that Detect Undead is still a different spell than Detect Magic - and different than Detect Poison or Detect Disease... That said:

Aye - and surely there are many tales of Men who felt the clutch of Insanity in the darkness foul jungles... If true, then surely my senet and he whom she is troth-plighted unto - being that they are Elven folk and likely more readily used to the wiles of forest plagues then Men - would be less effected by such threats?"

"Mayhap thy should attempt to discern the possibility that such a palsy is first from natural, though unwholesome means, rather than seek for sorcery as the cause?" she adds with the same polite, patient voice.

Amen-set's eyes narrow as she studies Horatio, wondering at his confusion at what seems obvious to her, but given his mood since his arrival on this island, she has her own suspicions and continues to be patient with him, even as she continues to study him.

"Aye... Fire is the tool to purge evil; yet though the flame will not burn me as others, our companions may not endure it's hot kiss with great will or pleasure."

Seeing that he still seems convinced the threat cannot be an invisible enemy but some sort of monster, she sighs a bit.

"If thy are still concerned of the threat of some fallen spirit, then ask the Hau-nebu," she says with a wave of her hand at Rajah "to call upon his gods and channel a burst of energy from their divine source... If there is indeed a Shade of some bygone wretch, or a foul Wight to guard these meager trinkets we have discovered thus far - surely his power will reveal the truth of that even as it radiates to surround us all?" she adds.

Of course, Amen-set now doubts that there is any ghost or spirit lingering here, otherwise they should all have heard its voice. No, it is more likely that there is some sort of natural disease they breathed in, especially in a room filled with rotten food and other bacteria...

However, she also believes that if there is a disease or insanity effecting them that Rajah's Channel Energy will hopefully cure them all of its effects, or at least alert them that there is something unwholesome that they are breathing.

Variel stops swinging his cutlass as it seems that there is no real harm being done even if the rest of the group outside of Rain and himself are acting a little eccentric. Please hold off Amen with any fire until we know what is going on. The last thing we need is the place burning around us as we try and figure this out.

Now, each of you are hearing voices. Are they saying the same thing or are each of you getting small fragments that must be pieced together? Where did the voices originate and are they getting stronger?

None of you could tell where it was coming from since it seemed to come from within your heads, similar to when neko speaks to you.

Rajah, Flynn, Seijiro, Amen-set:
The voice shouts again, clearly agitated and angry, saying ...GIVE BACK THE IMMORTAL DREAMSTONE!... before unleashing another painful wail into your minds. No damage or game effects, just loud, like someone screaming directly into your ear.

Variel and Rain, you see your companions jerk again, obviously having heard something.

Flynn and Rajah, make will saves please.

Since so far it's just a voice, which variel can't hear, you aren't sure what it is from your knowledge checks.

Variel and Rain, you both look around but don't see anything at the moment.

Rain looked on, still perplexed at the antics of the non-Elves in the party. She was glad that Neko remained on the balcony when they had entered the tower. It would not do to have the magical cat succumb to whatever malady had befallen most of the party in this room.

She nodded and watched him pull Jiro from the chamber. Rajah was nearest her and he was saying his head had begun to ache and so she took hold of his arm and began pulling him away, toward Jiro. She called out to those struck with pain, "I cannot hear what you are hearing, but if helps to leave this chamber, then do so immediately."

Again, she looked about the chamber, swiftly extending her pike to full length (20ft) in ready of any surprise attack.

Rajah and Flynn suddenly slump to the ground, like puppets who've had their strings cut. At the same time an unearthly howl cuts through the room, at least Seijiro hears it. Rain and Variel, you just see them slump to the ground.

We're now in combat rounds, those who are not unconscious have a surprise round of action to take. i.e. a single standard or move action.

Still unsure what is going on but the situation seems to have escalated immensely Variel moves closer to Horatio ready to drag him free of the building.

Rain watched as Rajah slid to the ground, in dead faint. Flynn did the same beside Variel. Hearing Variel's command, she kept her pike extended and ready in case of trouble, and took Rajah's arm in her off hand and was ready to carefully drag him from the chamber if need be. "I will drag Rajah out as soon as we're ready." (No need for Variel to shout at Rain to get them out. :P She heard him the first time.)

Rain's eyes continued to move about the space, looking for what could be causing her companions' malady.

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17

(A character can generally push or drag along the ground as much as five times his/her maximum load. Favourable conditions can double these numbers, and bad circumstances can reduce them by half or more. So I'm assuming Rain with a STR of 14 (without her muleback cords or animal focus) can drag an unconscious Rajah successfully if needs be? 5 x max load of 175 lbs = 875 lbs.)

Nice to see that Jiro is concerned if Rain has seen or not seen the creature on the wall ... since he only messages Variel. ;P It's probably good to clue Rain in on the plan too since she's also standing and can act (and unbeknown to Variel and Jiro, she too has seen the creature on the wall).

I was thinking that VAriel was oblivious and needed the guidance where Rain is so aware of everything she would notice the creature without Jiro's heads up. ;)

Variel barely nods his head yes at Jiro's words as he works to get the others out of the room. He does whisper back to those in the link, Be careful and pin it between you and Rain.

Rain it's at normal height, about 4 feet off the ground.

I put coordinates on the map so if you want to tell me exactly where you are going then I can help place you.

At that moment, two horrific shapes float out of the wall. Utterly terrifying in every respect, they seem to shift and transform constantly into different shapes, each more monstrous than the last.

K. Planes or Arcana check.

At the same time, a wave of pants soiling terror washes over you from on of the creatures.

Everyone still awake make a DC 21 will save or be panicked as the Fear spell. If you succeed you are just Shaken for 1 round.

The other one looks at Variel.

Variel eyes only:
You feel your absolute worst fear (manifested in some sort of creature) brought to life in front of you. DC 21 Will save, if that fails then DC 21 Fort save Play this out in character if you can since only you will be able to see this. Phantasmal Killer Spell so you can understand the effects.

Once all the saves and this is done you guys are up.

Variel would have been surprised at the sudden onslaught from the creatures but for Jiro's warning. As it was he only had time to grab a hold of Horatio before a deep sense of dread started to build up within him. Even without looking behind him he knew what was going to be there. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end and Variel did not want to turn around yet he felt compelled to. There, standing jsut 5 feet away was the largest spider that Variel had even seen. How he had missed such a creature upon entering the room Variel didn't know and frankly didn't care. All he wanted to do was to flee the area at full speed. Dropping Horatio like a sack of potatoes Variel tried to back away from the creature. Tripping over his own feet in the process Variel could not escape the large human sized mandibles as they closed in around him. Fearing the end Variel closed his eyes calling out, Help me Rain! Someone? Anyone? Please help me!

Panting with fear Variel shook as death closed in around him yet his heart did not stop. The black void lifted as he opened his eyes to see the light of day once again. Where once there was nothing but darkness and fear now there was light and life. The taint still hung with him as did the touch of those terrible mandibles. With the spider having disappeared and Horatio at the far end of the room VAriel turned his attentions to the creatures that Jiro spotted earlier.

Moving quickly Variel enhances his cutlass, casts a spell, and covers the distance (D,10) to strike the thing.
