Rain continued pushing the Lady forward as if the ship was flying through the water, so was the Elven pilot's determination to make the finish line before the Wormwood or any other vessel.

Seeing the look of concentration on her face, Amen-set's eyes flick to the others beside her and study them intently, then she folds her hands over her chest and bows.

"As thy will, my Pilot-Major," she says with courtesy.

"For now I shall offer prayers that the Great Father continue to bless thy hand at the tiller and that He continue to fill our sails with the speed of the Four Winds," she adds respectfully.

She then glances aloft and notes the location of the sun, then gracefully kneels on the swaying deck, facing the sun, and bows low, pressing her hands on the wood, muttering softly for a few moments.

When she is done, she stands and slides her feet apart and folds her arm behind her back and then remains in a stiff-backed posture, as if she is on some sort of guard duty.

Amen-set will remain at 4:R in case there are any other issues which might injure Rain.

You manage to get free of the entanglements with the creatures and the ship lost very little speed due to Rain's grit and your quick reaction to the threat. Sailing forward with the wind you see the Wormwood about 200 yards off your starboard and about 100 yards back. The slight bit loss in speed from the attack has allowed them to stay close but you still are leading.

With a sudden burst of speed, the other ship begins to pull closer as you both approach Coaming Point, the finish of the race is in sight!!! Every muscle of every crew member and every rope and line are taught as a beating drum willing the Dread Lady forward with every ounce of strength. Sweat pours down Rain's face as a look of sheer focus and determination sets upon her.

Inch by inch you creep ahead, only to have the Wormwood edge back a bit. Nearing the gap between two large rocks that you must sail through, Rain pushes forward and slices the Dread Lady across the Wormwood, shutting the door on their chances as you skim through the other side.

You've done it!!! You've won the Free Captain's Regatta!!!!! The crew lets loose a raucous cheer. Fire lights up the sky as you see flames shoot from the deck of the Kraken, the Master of Gales letting the comptetitors and spectators, of which you can now see Coaming Point is filled with them, know that the race has been won. You see a majority cheering but also sizable pockets stare on with looks of disgust and anger.

The Kraken pulls up alongside you and the Master of Gales looks over and says in his booming voice, Congratulations to the Officers and Crew of the Dread Lady! Your official ceremony of victory will be held in two hours hence upon the beach of Coaming Point. He points to a large red and white striped tent that has been set up on the beach. A feast will be held in your honor and prizes awarded then. For now, rest as ye can. You've sailed extremely well and honorably. With that he nods and the Kraken pulls back around to watch the remaining ships finish.

Damn the Hells to themselves! Dhaavna shouts, by way of exuberant cheer.

Who has a spell of sending? I need to tell m'lady that the Lord of the Rock is the First Mate of the ship that won the Free Captains Regatta as the darkest of dark horses!

With the Master of Gales announcement, Dhaavan rushes to the bow, and makes a fist. using his mythic casting he conjures an illusionary image.

Before the bow of the the Dread Lady, facing the Kraken, there is an eruption of green fire that takes the shape of a 40x40ft giant squid. then with bursts of brimstone, several Erynies, black wings matching the Dread Lady's colors appear and raise their blades in salute, first to the green Kraken of fire, then to the ship Kraken and the Master of Gales himself.

Dhaavan too bows in respect to the druid with a flourish. and dismisses his illusion.

Horatio seems pleased, but also almost shocked - as if he didn't truly realize that this would be possible to accomplish. But, having actually won the race, he nods his head with grim satisfaction and a slow, growing smile grows ever wider on his lips.

Soon he is turning and congratulating any and all of the crew as well as the officers.

Pulling a small, tattered journal from his satchel his eyes rove over one of the most recent headings as he examines the list of those who put heavy money against them and at long odds as a delighted light shines in his eyes.

Yet before he can rush to collect those earnings he pauses and then slides the journal back into his satchel and turns and motions to Amen-set.

"Come on, lass - business first in this case," he tells her with an almost doleful sigh.

Horatio then goes to examine the state of the girl that was pulled from the sea, as well as her crew mates... GM - what is her current status?

Amen-set seems to be almost bursting with pride, though she does what she can to pass it off with her usual nonchalance, even so, she moves relatively quickly to Rain, her smile looking extremely radiant as she does so.

"But for thy skill at the helm, we should have surely perished - thou! Thy sailing as beyond words and I am thus ever pleased for the honor which thy have earned this day, senet," she says with an eager voice.

Then she pauses and bows low before Rain, offering her a complete show of respect for her excellent piloting skills.

Standing erect, but before she can continue to offer further praise, she hears Horatio...

Horatio Flynn wrote:

Her eyes narrow as she suddenly remembers the folk that had been picked up and she wonders about their fate and well-being.

"Surely we must celebrate properly. I shall find thee, and then we shall make the heavens weep at our merriment," she adds with a smile and another quick bow, then turns and rushes to help Horatio with the folk below deck.

As they crossed the finish line before the Wormwood, Rain allowed herself to expel the breath she'd be holding during the last minute dash. She heard the cheers and she began to untie herself from the Wheel. She listed to the Master of Gales words and congratulations and bowed her head respectfully to the Master of Gales. Her eyes strayed a moment toward the Wormwood, wondering upon the mood of those aboard the ship, especially Harrigan, since they had come in second, even with all their magical dirty tricks.

Rain turned to Variel and quietly asked him to dismiss the Displacement spell he had placed on her not that long ago. She smiled at him and then at Jiro and the others around her. When Amen-set moved to her and bowed, passing along her praise, Rain smiled quietly. "Aye, we shall celebrate in earnest later this day, little sister. You did a fine job during the race, as did we all. Very well done to all!", she called out to officers and crew in praise. Then added quietly to Amen, "I am going to see to some more healing from Adular as those elementals were determined to take me down."

Waving the Besmaran priest to her side, "I am still in need of your healing, Adular, if you could provide me some now."

The priest nodded and called any injured crewmen closer, and, lifting his holy symbol, channelled twice, returning the pilot to full health.

Channel Energy: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 2) = 11
Channel Energy: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 6) = 20

1 channel energy remaining this day.

"Ah, thank you. I am hale once more."

Rain dropped her bear animal focus, not requiring its benefit any further, and rotated her stiff shoulders, allowing her wings to unfurl/stretch. She always held faith they could win the regatta but their win was still astonishing after all they had endured over the course. Rain gave a few orders to the riggers. Turning to Variel and waiting until he had returned to normal size, Rain kissed her betrothed deeply on the lips, not concerned with who could see them.

Pulling away and still looking at him, she added, "Let us ensure all is well onboard, rest and then see to our feast on the beach at Coaming Point."

Rain moved to the mainmast and inspected the damaged mast/sails and the makeshift repairs Flynn had undertaken during the hurricane.

The girl you fished from the pond is sleeping soundly and seems to have improved. In technical terms she seems to have stabilized and is no longer in immediate danger.

Her crew have assimilated fairly well into your own and now are working wherever they can to help. Right now they seem to be helping the crew to straighten the berths and organize the section to allow for 5 more crew members to sleep and everyone has a bit more room. Apparently you have found pirate interior designers! ;-)

As the last of the elementals are dealt with, Rajah sheathes his sword and shield and watches with anticipation the last of the race. As the Dread Lady manages to just inch the Wormwood by a nose, "Fantastic! We won!" he exclaims as he shoots his fist in the air in victory. "Utterly a fantastic race! I must say it doesn't get much closer than that," he says. Grinning as he breathes a sigh of relief, it's not a few moments later a curious look forms. "A question if I may, Captain. What was it exactly that we won?" He then looks to Rain, "And I must congratulate you on a job well done... Rain? Was it? I believe that was name I heard you called. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. I am Rajah, by the way," he introduces himself, giving a slight bow.

Amen-set beams at this comment.

”Aye, indeed! I am eager to begin the revels. I have walked the waves long and do not mind it overmuch, but today we slew our enemies – then we stood tall to shame those who dared oppose us, even as we let them live in long disgrace... Finally, by thy hand we have seen things that few men have lived to see and stood proud to laugh at those dangers ere the end!”

”Hearken to me, oh my senet…” she says, then beckons Rain closer and speaks to her softly… Even in the best of circumstances strong drink erodes wise actions and few things stir the blood of men more than confronting those who humbled them… To mix drink and animosity together is a risky venture, I deem… If all of us are to indulge in such carousing, I say keep well near thee thy blade and watch closely thy food and drink… There is a Covenant of Blood between our folk and some others there; methinks it shall not be paid in full unless vengeance is the coin… she adds as her eyes peer closely at the other ship captains, watching closely the men clustered near Harrigan.

Even after the last elemental dissipated from the blows Variel landed he kept his cutlass out and ready should anyone or anything else try to harm his bride to be and pilot of the Lady. As the Lady and Wormwood raced for the end Variel glanced around both at his ship and the other for any signs of opening hostilities. He trusted his men not fire first but wasn't sure what would happen if Harrigan initiated the fight. Luckily it was a moot point as Rain edged the Wormwood at the last with out any conflict.

Releasing his own breath Variel caught Rain's eye as they both shared a look of triumph. Dismissing her protective spell Variel dismisses his own as well shrinking back to normal size. Hoisting Rain in his arms he drinks deep of her lips in celebration. Breathless he pulls away from her to turn and face the crew. Well done everyone. Well done indeed! 3 cheers for Rain! 3 cheers for the Lady and her crew!

Once the cheers are over Variel turns to the Master of Gales. We will honored to feast with you in 2 hours on the beech: Myself and all of the crew of the Lady.

Separating briefly from Rain he nods her wisdom as she goes to inspect eh ship. He himself turns to Rajah in answer. Besmara must have you in her sights. How else could you be swallowed by a serpent, spewed upon a ship in the middle of a regatta and be part of the crew that wins fame, fortune and more. We shall learn all of what we win at the fest I am sure but the 2 greatest prizes were a seat on the pirate council and lordship of their own island!

Coming up from below, he looks at the others.

”The lass we pulled out's alright… But she’ll need sleep. I had Piper make a tea for her to drink; she should drink it every four to six hours or so for the next few days. It will help with the swelling of the blood near her brain,” he says.

”Other than that, she looks alright, though. I’d wager she should be back on her feet in a few days…”

”I put down 11,000 gold pieces that we’d come in for the top five ships at three-to-one odds…” he says with a low, distracted voice – ”Let’s see, that puts me up to 33,000 gold pieces… Oh, and then I put down an another 11,000 gold pieces that we’d win at five-to-win odds… honestly didn’t think that would happen, but I figured between the two wagers I’d clear up 22,000… However, thanks to the Pilot-Major that swings up another 55,000 gold pieces and nets me out to 88,000 gold pieces… though I don't know what the others wagered,” he continues with an almost distracted voice then looks up at Rajah.

”Gods damn, it’s grand to be victorious…” he said with a huge smile.

Not sure why Amen-set is now channeling “Short Round” from The Temple of Doom… but yeah ;)

Then she purses her lips as her eyes range over Rajah and her expression becomes thoughtful and she brushes a length of her long, platinum-colored hair back from her face.

”Assuredly we have saved thee from a dark Fate when we pulled thee from the sea… What, then, are thy plans now that we have made landfall? Will thee seek a new berth, or would thy find a place among us?” she asks, a somewhat eager tone in her voice, as she looks down and then glances at him from under her long lashes as Horatio turns and gives her a small frown at her posturing.

”I get no problem with Rajah sailing with us – but I reckon first he’ll have to let us know what he’d like to do before we can see what we think,” Horatio says to her somewhat pointedly.

Then he turns and looks at Rajah.

”So then, what are your plans?” he asks him with a somewhat jovial voice.

Her cheeks flushed by sea, wind, combat and kiss, Rain beamed as Variel raised cheer for her piloting skill in the regatta. She joined in the cheer for the ship and her valiant crewmen. The gods had shown them favour this day. She pondered Amen's words anew and wondered if Harrigan and his crew would exact some payback for besting them. She was certain, without evidence, that Harrigan was behind the attacks on her as she stood at the helm. Still, best the Master of Gales sort out the treachery, if he had noted it from his vantage during the last portion of the race. Or had he noted more, along the length of it?

Hearing Rain's acceptance - coupled with Horatio's acceptance - seems more than enough confirmation for Amen-set.

"This is indeed a fine day!" she says with a loud and merry voice.

"Further, it is written - When something looms darkly, trust to the Great Father to provide new light... - and so it is! We have lost the talents of the other priest, but lo! While we have little time to lament this ill, suddenly from the seas itself comes another to stand forth and replace him."

"Who can doubt the will of the Great Father in such situations, eh?" she adds eagerly.

Then she moves to embrace Rajah warmly, almost as if such appointments are always received such friendly welcomes.

Horatio lifts an eyebrow at her enthusiasm, and she notes it and quickly releases Rajah, but still seems pleased at his formally now becoming part of the crew.

Caught totally unprepared by the sudden embrace, Rajah finds himself at a loss on how to respond but can't but help smile at the fiery woman. With her offer of a place to store his gear, he stammers a moment as he's not really given it any thought. "Well, um, sure, I suppose. Knowing where I can keep quarters would do me well. And any business I have is whatever business you all have. I've never really had any 'business' to take care of no matter where I've been. I guess you could call me a 'Nomad of the Sea' - I just go where she takes me," he says with a grin, shrugging.

Her lip quirks in a wry smile.

”Fear not, priest – it is a certainty that if thy would continue to sail with us that thy shall assuredly find “business”… even if such business comes to seek thee,” she adds somewhat enigmatically.

”For now thou art known as a priest among us – is this what thy would name thyself, or is there another title which thy might claim?” she asks, curious to know more.

Her eyes raise in surprise at this comment.

”Aye! Bi-la kaifa!,” she says with a grin.

Knowledge Geography 15 or Linguistics 12:

Amen-set seems to lap into the Osiriani language from time to time. The word Hatey-a' meaning something akin to "Chief" or "Warrior/Leader" and the word "Senet" meaning "Sister". As for Bi-la kaifa - this translates roughly into "It is written" - though it is not typically meant as a literal phrase; instead it is closer to something that is supposed to be accepted without really needing to understand the nuances - essentially a term that something will be accepted on faith alone...

However, it's clear that the bulk of her accent and grammar is obviously Draconic. If you had to guess you'd assume she probably learned Draconic as her primary language and then - as she grew somewhat older - her second language was Osiriani . You're not sure how many other languages she knows, though...

”Come, then – let us wait while my Hatey-a' seeks to claim his earnings ashore even as I shall show thee a bunk where thy may store thy baggage,” she adds with a warm voice.

Amen-set will show Rajah the “Officer’s Quarters” in the forward part of the ship. She is also perfectly happy to take him on a tour of the ship as well, if he is interested.

For those of you that placed bets, it got lost in the shuffle but there was a DEFINITE cap on the total bet. Your max bet was 4k in total between top 3 and finishing first. So if you put ALL of it on you to win then you would get 16k back. This is per person that bet but if you used any ship funds then the split needs to go to the ship as well. The cap is due to the fact that you did not have that much money liquidated to be able to make bets larger than that. Sorry if this is disappointing but 16k is still quite a bit of gold per person that bet.

Rain watched as Amen and Rajah walked off together and her eyes sought Variel's and she quietly said, "It seems as though Rajah has caught the eye of Amen." Then added, "There is some damage to the main mast and sail, but not enough to interfere with us sailing. Mayhap we can use magic to repair it before we set sail after the celebrations. I would rather it was whole/hale in case we run into some trouble."

To all: The mainmast and sail are damaged but the ship can still sail without penalty. Flynn's earlier repair during the hurricane saved the mast from gaining the broken condition.

Horatio turns from his advance from the beach and fixes her with a stern, almost paternal glare.

”Alright, alright,” he says as he moves over to her shaking his head and turning an almost apologetic glance to Rajah.

He retorts to her quickly and quietly and she sighs, then rolls her eyes, then seems to get angry, then shakes her head and shrugs a little, then seems to sulk.

Horatio folds his arms over his chest and clears his throat.

At that, she stiffens, then turns and bows formally to Horatio and looks at Rajah.

”A thousand pardons, goodly sir – it may be that I misunderstood thy intentions. For that I crave thy indulgence,” she says, her voice not sounding very contrite, despite what she had said.

”There are many hours before the revelries shall begin – let me then show you the ship which we shall sail on; including illumination on all things aboard; excepting only those particular havens reserved for the officers of our company,” she adds with a polite gesture at the ship, waiting for Rajah to lead the way.

She turns and gives Horatio a look which seems to almost say – “There, are you happy?” – yet Horatio does indeed seem somewhat relieved.

'You all manage to pick up your winnings which is paid in a combination of gold and platinum pieces as well as some gems and jewelry that bring the total to your winnings. This takes some time and several more ships arrive during this time, eventually the time comes to make your way to the tent of the Master of Gales for the victory ceremony.

You are instructed to enter the tent last and wait outside as the other competitors and spectators enter and take their seats. A conch shell blows from within signaling you all to enter. Thunderous applause greets you from most of the gathered people. You have found out that the last bit of the race has been talked about a great deal and the courage you all showed to continue racing while under the assault of invisible creatures was inspiring.

The Master of Gales himself bangs his staff on the ground, a thunderous boom released as he does so, which instantly quiets the crowd.

"Captain Variel Nightstorm and Pilot Rain Taneththir, please approach." Assuming you do so he continues and says You and your crew are to be commended on an excellent race. You have weathered the Eye and the gods have found you worthy of the accolades I am about to bestow upon you all. The Dread Lady has officially won the Free Captain's Regatta!

He waits for a moment for a burst of cheering to subside before continuing, holding up a single brilliantly polished silver manacle. He beckons Variel to approach and says Captain Variel Nightstorm of the ship The Dread Lady. I hereby bestow upon you a seat upon the Pirate's Council of the Shackles. This broken manacle is a symbol of that honor and the duty that it entails. Do you swear to renounce all ties to other nations and entanglements, so that you may represent the welfare of the people of the Shackles to the best of your abilities?

Assuming the answer is in affirmative he clasps the broken manacle around Variel's wrist and lets the crowd cheer. He then says In addition, for winning the Regatta, you and your officers have won lordship over the Island of Empty Eyes in the northernmost territory of the Shackles. This is a great prize and one in which I suggest you explore at your earliest opportunity to begin to make use of its untapped potential.

Turning to Rain he says Rain Taneththir, for your incredible piloting skills I am also awarding you a purse of 400 pieces of platinum as the best pilot in the Regatta as voted upon by the assembled spectators. For now, let us feast and celebrate the finish of the regatta!

You all have not seen the Wormwood anywhere and suspect that the ship may have left. The rest of the night passes relatively uneventfully although you all are continuously congratulated and toasted to incessantly, leading to a very long and drunken night.

After a little while, the Master of Gales pulls you all aside to explain about the Island you have won. “It’s called the Island of Empty Eyes,” the Master of the Gales explains, “for the queer statues that leer over its shores. Uninhabited and fraught with danger, make no doubt, but naught that pirates of your capabilities can’t handle. You’ve landed a seat on the Pirate Council as well, but winning a race don’t make a sailor a captain, nor a freebooter a lord. You’ll need to show the Council you can tame the island and make it your own, if you want to claim your seat. The lords of the Council will come calling in three months to see if you’re worth the honor that’s been bestowed upon you, and they’ll expect to be feted as befits pirate lords of their stature. Provided you look like you know what you’re doing, they’ll take your oath of loyalty and grant you your seat on the Council. If not... well, you wouldn’t be the first winner of the Regatta who failed to live up to expectations.”

I'm leaving it a little up to you guys right now as to what you want to do. Congratulations! YOU FINISHED BOOK 3!!!!

Horatio scratches his chin thoughtfully and stares at the Master of Gales with flat eyes.

It’s clear he has multiple things he wants to say; not in the least is his confusion as to how “winning” an island means that they merely were given the right to go to a dangerous location, kill the threats and claim the treasure on the corpses of said threats…

Wait - no castle, no fortresses, not even a bleeding manor house or even any poxing plantations?

He sighs and tries to think of this in a more positive light.

Come on lad, get over it - besides; clearing out the chaff in an island might be a bit more fun than simply sitting around in some white suit drinking sweet tea or some mint julep on the porch...

He grins privately at that idea, but then his mind tacks to another thought.

Specifically, why Variel wasn’t already sitting on the seat on the Council, especially given that was the promised prize of the race…

Still, he seems to put that aside for now.

”Thank you kindly for the praise and rewards,” he says politely as he touches his hand to his forelock.

Now he broaches a subject that is clearly on his mind, especially as The Wormwood – and her crew and captain, are clearly absent.

”Begging your pardon, sir…” he says slowly but politely ”but for now I have a question about one of the members of the race we just handled, including the particulars of how the victory was supposed to be achieved.”

"Specifically the captain of The Wormwood," he adds.

My bad, Jiro – I would have invited you, too, but I didn’t think you needed an escort. After all, you didn’t bet as much as we did on the victory, and you didn't make multiple bets. If I'm not mistaken, you bet on coming in the top five (3-1 odds) not coming in first (5-1 odds); so your earnings will be a lot less and there’ll likely be a lot less danger for you to collect them. Also, I believe you only made one bet – so you could only “max out” the winnings one time, not twice - one for each bet.

Of course, we’d happily have you come with us, just for the company, though :)

After getting the 16k in gold gems and other monetary prizes Variel immediately heads over tot he crew. Pulling out a purse of 1000gp Variel divides it up amonst the crew. Do not let it ever be said that Captain Nightstorm refused to pay off his bets. You have earned this this day. Enjoy it all and the rest that is to follow.

Variel goes to join the other officers on the way to the tent for the celebration. Offering his arm to escort Rain Variel smiles ear to ear. Arriving at the tent Variel waits patiently with the others till the conch shell blows. Striding up to the Master of Gales when called Variel is surprised to find himself balking at the the words that the MAster of Gales says. Will I renounce all ties to other nations and other entanglements? Does this mean I need to give up on Shanxia and never find out about my past? Perhaps I can do both as long as I put the Shackels first. Yet even if I put my past second will that be enough? I have already been the target of assassinations and other plots. We will have to see what the future holds I guess. No man can predict the future.

Keeping his eyes on the Master of Gales but his hand in Rain's Variel nods his head slowly in accordance to what is asked of him. I have known no home other than the Shackels. Therefore it would be my honor to accept this position and do what is in my power to protect that which I call home.

However, Variel continues on, the Shackles is composed of individual islands with their own people. Just as each of them follow their own path in life so too must I follow my own path. Where this path takes me I know not but I assure you all that what I do will be for the betterment of the Shackles and her people. Variel accepts the manacle then hoping his words did not work against him.

Variel steps back then as Rain steps forward to receive her honoring.

The feast and celebration that follows was a blur as Variel went about speaking to any and all that offered him congratulations. As often he could though he deferred the praise to his officers and crew.

At the end when the Master of Gales approached them again Variel paid close attention. Aye, we will take your words and wisdom to heart. This island will be tamed as needed however what else can you tell us of this island? Specifically are there any outposts, buildings or other structures known on the island?

Thinking we are going to need to gather info on this island to see what is there. That way we know what we may have to bring to support a visit from pirate lords.

Rain whispered something back to Jiro, upon noting his words in Minkaian.

Now

Master of Gales wrote:

Turning to Rain he says Rain Taneththir, for your incredible piloting skills I am also awarding you a purse of 400 pieces of platinum as the best pilot in the Regatta as voted upon by the assembled spectators. For now, let us feast and celebrate the finish of the regatta!

Being called forth, to stand before the Master of Gales with her betrothed by her side, hand in hand, was an honour indeed and Rain wished her grandfather could have been present to witness their win and the ceremony. He would have been so proud of her. She could hear Jiro's loud cheers of encouragement and nodded in the kitsune's direction.

She collected the purse and marvelled at the sum contained within. She bowed before the Master of Gales and turned and smiled at the general assembly of pirates, tipping her tricorne in recognition. Rain looked to Variel and quietly congratulated him on his prospective seat on the Pirate Council, "A fine honour, Captain. Well deserved." She kept the praise proper and formal because they stood before the assembly. Later, in private, she would show him more openly.

When they were pulled aside to discuss their ownership of the Island of Empty Eyes, Rain listened carefully, and pondered what she heard of the place. They were to tame the island, then make it functional for the Council's visit in three months hence? Not a small order since they had a wedding to undertake in a month and a half. They would have to do their best before and after the wedding to ensure they tame the island and make it liveable. She cringed inwardly when Flynn asked the Master of Gales about the Wormwood and how victory in the regatta is achieved. She hoped the man would not be angered by such a question since they had no hard proof that Harrigan was behind all the attacks on them (or the other ship which sunk) over the course of the race. She silently hoped that Flynn would not accuse Harrigan and the Wormwood at this time.

Horatio glances at Variel for a moment and then tries to remember what he himself might know about the island.

Meanwhile, he’s content to share what he recalls about the island later with the others, but for now he is waiting for the response to his earlier comment.

It probably wouldn't help to continue asking questions about Harrigan's actions if the others didn't offer supporting opinions, so for now he'd say nothing more, though he was curious to know what the man will say.

After all, if the Master of Gales was in charge of making sure that the various ships didn’t use magic to attack each other during the race and this same Master of Gales didn’t realize what Harrigan had done, then logic suggested that the man was not very good at his job.

Either that, or he was allied with Harrigan… and Horatio believed that this was a point worth knowing.

Still, there was no need to press the issue - in the game of politics is wasn't wise to piss people off.

For now he was curious to know how the man might react, or what he might say about what was said already.

Rajah's eyes go wide and he smiles - because he's really not sure what else to do when such information is given - as a bit of panic sets in. Giving a nervous nod, "Right oh, then. That is, um, good... good... you know, good and all that," he responds, completely flummoxed. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. I did not see this one coming. Fancies?! Truly? Surely he jests. What is it I've done to warrant such? Nothing that I know of. I fear the good sailor must be mistaken. Yes, quite mistaken. He looks over at her a moment, seeming to notice her for the first time. Well she is quite lovely. Quickly shaking his head to regain his wits, he pulls himself back together and focuses.

Then - having decided - she nods at Rajah and then shares her story with him.

"Slavers took me, and others, and by his hand my enemies were cut down; my chains were broken, and I was freed from bondage."

"He took seven heads that night; the other that aided him no longer sails with this crew... that one took four heads. As for myself and the others that were free... We slew the remainder between us."

"I deem the others he freed that night have no honor, for having achieved their releases, they fled to return to their homeland and their folk - or some other concern," she says with a somewhat contemptuous wave of her hand.

"As for myself? I have been freed; so I pledged myself to follow my hatey-a', for he is a goodly man and has no love for them who would be slavers. Indeed, he has saved others since I journeyed with him - even now there are many who serve on this vessel who are freed from chains by his hand."

"He is an honorable man and I am well pleased at my choice to follow him."

"Fascinating. And with your fine compliment of the good Horatio - and knowing what I know of the rest of the crew - it would appear I could not have been expelled from the severed half of a large serpent onto a better ship," he says, grinning wryly. "Well, we should return back. I'm sure the awards will be handed out shortly. Shall we, Milady?" he offers an arm for her to take if desired as they return to the others.

She glances at his arm with a bit of a confused expression.

Then, recalling that she had seen lords behave this way with ladies she seems a bit surprised, but almost shyly pleased.

She reaches her young, brown hand to his arm - but before taking it properly, she places it on Rajah's bicep and grips firmly, as if testing the quality of his strength. Her hand releases and then tenses briefly around his forearm, and she smiles and nods her head slowly, as if the touch confirmed a suspicion.

"Thy arms are formed well, and thy muscles align better to the wont of a corsair rather than some mere brawler," she says thoughtfully.

She turns her turquoise eyes on him and studies him for a moment.

"I am glad that thy sail with us now, Hau-nebu. Thou art a skilled fighter and thy countenance is pleasing besides," she adds with a matter of fact voice.

Then she circles his arm with her own properly, her free hand pausing to brush a stray lock of her platinum hair from her face as she walks forward with him to the others with a small smile on her lips.

The Master of Gales raises an eyebrow when Horatio mentions the race and the Wormwood but says nothing as no question was actually asked. It appears the Master of Gales is not one to beat around the bush and if you wish to ask him something, need to do so straight out.

Looking at the others he says I'm sure you will do the Shackles, and yourselves, proud. Good luck to you in your endeavors and I shall see you three months hence.
