Island of Empty Eyes Map Current Map

You manage to get both ships underway and heading back to Quent. The Dryad's Grave has a hard time keeping up with the Dread Lady and eventually Rain let's them take the lead in order to keep the ships together. The journey back to Quent is about 150 miles and as such will only take you about three days.

Ana pipes up however and says Isn't the person who needs the information we are providing regarding the ships speed in Beachcomber on Bag Island? That odious halfling named Slip?

You can return to Quent but Beachcomber can be kind of on the way by skirting the Rampore Isles.

We had planned on discussing our plans when we moored the ship after leaving the place where the Aboleth fell.

Since that hasn’t happened, I’m going to assume that there is nothing to Discuss. That said; I'm going to say that we're going to ignore Quent and that Amen-set is tacking course to Bag Island.

That said, Horatio will order Amen-set to send a message to the others via Horus to explain that is where the current course heading has been adjusted to.

Regarding the priests we have Dhaavan to negotiate nuances with them. It has been over a week sense he has posted, so I will now be botting him until he returns.

Horatio watches The Lady sail before them.

Amen-set turns to look at Horatio after he orders her to Bag Island.

He senses her question regarding the opinions of the others and turns a flat expression to her but says nothing.

She sees his eyes and nods.

Then she obeys.

Somewhat (actually a LOT) disappointed that we aren't going straight to Quent, Seijiro finishes cataloging the lot of plunder found and stashed below, then lends a hand crewing the ship while awake, since the crew seems a bit shorthanded... Then he slips into his bunk for a little sleep before he has to take the wheel while Rain gets some much needed rest.

Seijiro, you guys can still go to Quent.

You need to get the wheel installed and that was going to happen at Quent; that could take time and the ship won't be sailed while it is being taken care of.

For now, we are going to Bag Island and conclude the business there.

We can meet you at Quent after it is done, however.

Meantime, welcome back :)

Just an FYI Horatio, you're both going to need to go as Slip is going to want to examine the wheel.

Sounds reasonable; but I don't want to hold up the other party. If we reach Bag End without The Lady we'll certainly inform Slip what is going on; we'll tell him the wheel is being attached and that it will be arriving in Bag Island shortly. Then we will begin to gather information regarding the Ore that was discovered on the other ship. Actually, there are plenty of things we can do while in Bag Island while they get the wheel attached on Quent.

My point is: I don't want my RP to hold up the party. If they want to go to Quent first, then all I'm trying to say is that's all good :)

When Ana speaks up Variel almost smacks himself in the head. You are right. It was slip that needed these answers so that he could provide further clues moving forwards. I had it backwards. I was thinking it was the House of Stolen kisses we had to return to first and then Slip. Not a problem, We can replace the wheel at Bag Island and have Slip inspect it on our ship. We can still return to Quent after that if needed.

Variel looks at Jiro with an apologetic look. At some point yes we will return to Quent that is not an issue. The question only is when. We dos not know what information will be provided to us upon delivering the method to the Banshee's speed. We may well have to act quickly.

Dont worry though. We will return to Quent when we can to make full upgrades and sell our goods.

As the ship moves toward Bag Island Horatio has a long talk with Dhaavan even as Amen-set continues to urge the ship along.

As they work, Horatio studies Amen-set at the helm thoughtfully.

Then he turns to glance at The Lady.

"When we get to Bag End, we can let the other folk handle the thing with the wheel."

"We'll take care of the other thing," he adds with a grim smile.

On the way to Bag Island Variel goes to the ship's stores inside the captain's locker and retrieves 2000gp in coins and gems stowed there. returning with the wealth Variel approaches Fitch. It seems that we have indeed discovered the secret to the Banshee. Since are agreement was payment upon finding the Banshee and the discovery of its secret I feel that your obligation has been fulfilled. As such here is the agreed upon price for your services.

The only question I have for you now is where would you like to be dropped off along our path and how do you plan on leaving with the payment in tack? Variel keeps his face serious as he rests his hand on the hilt of his cutlass. After only 2-3 seconds though Variel can't hold himself back any longer. I jest. We are honorable to our word here even if we like to have a bit of fun. Seriously though, where would you like to be left ashore unless you plan on staying with us a while longer?

Conversation with Jiro.

Never worry about putting your own needs ahead of anyone else's for the greater good. To you they are not inconsequential. If at all possible we will head to Quent after Bag Island for numerous reasons. I believe there are others that wish to head to a decent port as well for their own personal reasons even if the rest of us think the reason are 'inconsequential'. We are all a team and par tof the endeavor so we must all look to each other's needs as well.

Perhaps in time I have heard that some casters of the arcane arts have the ability to transport people along great distances. If that is the case and Dhaavan ever is capable of such feats then that would make such matters as this truly inconsequential as he would be able to move people around at ease.

Fitch's eyes widen when you bring the gold and gems...then narrow when you mention marooning him on an island...then close in relief when you explain the jest. Finally saying something, he replies Any port will do fine and I can make my way from there. I overheard you're heading to Beachcomber and that will be a fine place to catch a ship to Port Peril and then see where the wind takes me. You people are alright...for pirates. He finishes with a smile and an outstretched hand to shake before pocketing the bag and returning below deck.

-----------------------------------------------

It is pouring rain when you all arrive at Beachcomber without incident and together, pulling into the same dock that you stayed at when you left last. The dockmaster nods to you all and hurries over, asking how long you plan on staying and what your business is, before returning to the dockmaster's office, a glorified shack in the sea of taverns and docks that engulf the harbor.

Ok you're here, what's the plan?

As the ship comes into the bay of Bag Island Horatio tells them to drop anchor and prepare a longboat about a hundred fathoms out. While he has no issue with moving next to a pier, given the massive amount of plunder on board the ship which won’t be offloaded until Quent, he feels it would be easier to guard and protect if the ship could only be approached by boat.

He then orders an away team prepared and leaves the ship under the command of Dhaavan.

He informs the remaining crew that they will be able to properly enjoy themselves in Quent, and in a fashion more in keeping with the style that they deserve. Spending their money here would not only be a waste, but it could be dangerous.

When the boat reaches the shore he disembarks and leaps onto the sand of the beach, his eyes scanning the surrounding area intently. Behind him Amen-set follows, and in a heavy haversack hung over her shoulder is the rock that was taken from The Grave.

He is acutely aware that The Lady is also in the harbor, but leaves the command and actions of that ship to Variel and the other officers.

He glances up at the heavy rain pouring down on him and shrugs. Then he draws his pistols and checks their priming, then stuffs them back into his holsters.

He turns to the members of the away team to remain near the docks and that he would return in time (the Away Team is made up of the Halfling gunfighters, as well as the Ratline, Shix and Reevah).

Seeing the Dockmaster, he flips the man a coin and nods at him.

”Afternoon. We’re going to meet someone. We should be back in a few hours, give or take,” he says to the man with a polite but curt voice.

Then he and Amen-set head to meet the priest.

GM; Horatio is mainly interested in finding out more of the nature of the stone that Amen-set and Rain found on The Grave. Of course, he understands that the priests will likely want to see the wheel first, but he is confident that the others can handle that mystery.

If the priests want to see the Wheel before helping him with information about the stone, I’ll RP it out. Otherwise, please let me know what you need from me about getting information from the stone. I mean, is this a Diplomacy check or a Knowledge Check, or what? Okay – when you let me know what’s up, I’ll go from there.

Variel shakes Fitch's hand and nods at his wishes. Very well. I will make certain that you are set up with some provisions as well for your journey to Port Peril.

Arriving at Beachcomber Variel sees the dock master and indicates that they will be staying for only a day or two. Just a quick stop to refit our ship with some supplies and such. figured here would be better than out at sea. Shouldn't take us too long I recon. Might sell some goods as well if the price is right. Any word on what is in need here?

Once the business at hand is done Variel will then send for a runner to send Slip a message that the request has been fulfilled and if he would like to know more then to meet them at the dock.

Not trying to supersede you Horatio, but although Variel might have seen you leave he does not know what you are doing or up to.

No worries; I assume we'd meet up eventually as we're likely going to the same place eventually :)

As for re-fitting or buying gear in Beachcomber, instead of Quent (which is better prices and a safer port and oly about half a day away), Horatio would probably recommend not doing that when we can rely on the resources there, rather than here, once we do meet up.

However, as of now I guess the next move is the GM.

Perhaps it would have been a better idea for Flynn and Amen to mention we're they're headed and what business they have, as it isn't personal business if it concerns the black stone box Amen and Rain found - then that is group concern.

Neko preferred to stay dry (in the captain's cabin) aboard the ship for she did not want her fur soaked by the rain and communicated it to Rain via telepathy. Rain gave her consent and disembarked with Variel, feeling the rainshower coat her hair and skin. She listened as Variel answered the dockmaster's question as to the duration of their stay at port.

Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31

Rain caught sight of Flynn and Amen moving away from the dock and her ire began to rise. Why do they insist on separating from the group and not communicating their destination ...or intent.

Looking to the dockmaster, Rain asked politely, "Sir, did our two companions from the Dryad's Grave happen to mention their destination to you once they disembarked and paid their docking fee?" They are foolish and reckless, and should know better by now, Rain's teeth were set on edge, yet she kept a small smile on her face as she faced the dockmaster and awaited his answer.

Jiro...

Variel gives the kitsune a wave of the hand, smiling, I think we can handle this if you have other plans. I do not know how long we will be here though. Where might we find you if we are ready to leave? Not trying to inquire too much in your personal matters but I do like to know where the officers are at. Of course as he says this he looks to see where Horatio has gone.

Rain...

Smiling as Rain approached with him Variel gave her a nod in welcome. Do you think we will be able to refit the Lady with this weather or should we wait for clearer skies?

Well, to be fair, no one really seemed interested in the Black Stone; that being the case, I don't want to push it on anyone. If anyone had expressed any interest in following up on the nature of the stone and what it means then it may be different. As it stands, I assumed that no one is interested in it.

Rain Taneththir wrote:

As Rain spoke to the quartermaster the away team that lingered near the docks watched her and the others. The Rahadoumi folk, Shix and Reeva have pulled heavier cloaks around their shoulders to try to ward off the rain, while the recently acquired Halfling sailors have moved up toward a small shanty about fifty feet from the boat and plopped themselves down under an overhang; one of them running off to find a tavern to fetch them some grub, while an other rolls a crude cigarette with some crinkled paper and passes it to Ratline who takes it and puts it between his teeth and awkwardly lights it with his good hand.

Then he takes a long drag from it as he watches Rain and stumps toward her, the sound of his pegleg sounding with a dull thunk on the pier.

"Ahoy," he says with a cheerful wave of his hook hand as he lopes toward them.

Moving in front of the company he tips his forelock politely to them, then takes a pull from the smoke as he continues to bite it in his mouth, exhaling through his nostrils.

"Looks like we got a bit of bad weather here today, more's the pity," he says as he looks up at sky, his words sounding odd as he speaks while clenching the smoke between his teeth.

"But if ye're asking the lad here where the Chief... er Ser Flynn, has gone, why - he won't tell ye. Why? Because he don't know, seeing as how Ser Flynn didn't make it clear where that was, on account of the fact that sometimes he be the type that speaks obtuse with folk, nay disrespect," he adds, seeming somewhat proud that he could work the word "obtuse" into his sparse vocabulary.

"Now of course, we got a notion on where he's headed, but that's because we know - seeing that he told us," he says with a lengthy and somewhat rambly speech that seemingly went on at length but didn't quite reach the point.

"In this case he done went to see the priest lad that the rest of ye folk had chatted with earlier before we left here last, to get a learning on that Black Stone - what it can do, what its powers be, and all the rest," he adds with a a now muffled voice as he moves over to Rain and peers up at her, then the others - his words softer, as if he doesn't want anyone to overhear where Horatio and Amen-set went, though in this rain it would be unlikely that anyone was out near their company to be able to hear anything over the sound of the rain, and even if they had heard, what would it matter?

Ratline nods his head sagely then pauses, his eyes widening.

"Begging me pardon, Pilot-Major, and to ye, Captain-General - and to ye, too Holy Father, and ye - Lord Quartermaster," he says with a nod to Variel, Adular and Jiro "but I've sent one of the lads to the tavern there to fetch some decent drinks - seeing as we're kind of waiting back to keep an eye on things like the boat we rowed up; not to mention the rest of the dross that might be ambling about."

"That being the case, if ye like, I'll see what we can do to fetch ye some grub and maybe a few drinks or such, too? Sure'n we got to be watching the boat and making sure that Ser Flynn don't get jumped by any poxed-mucked scalawags - and no bleeding bastards think to try to slip off to our ship off yonder and try pinching what we got stashed," he says with a grim voice and a nod to the Grave, which was moored about five-hundred feet from the docks to prevent anyone from trying to rush the ship and steal the massive amounts of plunder in her hold.

"Still, I reckon we can do all that in the lee of the piss-assed foul weather; and no harm in having a second breakfast, too," he adds with a toothy grin.

"That said; if ye're planning on staying here a bit, we'll happily share a smoke and a drink with ye, if ye've a notion?"

"Unless, of course, ye're planning on going to chat with the priests directly instead?" he adds, then eases his leg on the damp padding of the peg as he waits for an answer.

"Anyhow, if ye want things answered, why - nay harm in asking! And, meantime, if ye just let ol' Ratty know what ye've a notion on doing then I'll do what I can to, uh... lend a hand," he says, holding up his hook hand and laughing at his words.

As he waits for an answer, the Halfling who went to fetch the drinks has returned with a small set of mugs while the remaining Halflings cheer and then begin to sing a somewhat bawdy shanty as they wait under the awning about a "Platinum Blonde with legs so long..." while Reeva rolls her eyes and chuckles even as Shix rubs her hand over her face, as if the very tune seemed to set her teeth on edge.

"Nothing like spending time with a Grave Lady," he says, then downs a gulp of the ale.

"That being the case, if ye're looking to do a walkabout, do ye want one of the lads to come along? It's a big island, having at least a back-up could be handy," he adds, knowing that Horatio had Amen-set in case things got rough, and that she could always send Horus with a message if necessary.

He leans back as the others reach for the cups and drink, the two Rahadoum sailors moving closer to the awning to get away from the damp.

"Of course, if ye're just looking to spend a bit o' time with a lass then may Lady Bess bless ye and keep ye!" he says with a nod at Adular.

So basically I'm just tossing up some Social RP. Still need to know what rolls the GM needs from me to get more information out of the Black Stone. Also, as (for now) I suspect we're all going to be at the same priest anyway to find out what happens now that we've got the magic wheel, I'm kind of assuming he'd just present a list of Checks required when we get to the priest to find out what we need to know.

Sorry to bother you and thank you for your time", handing him the required coin for their docking fee.

Once the dockmaster moved away, Rain turned to Variel, "We heading to the priest, now?"

Really under the weather so just a quick post in narrative, then you can decide what you want to do from there.

As you all make your way to visit Slip, when you get there, you see that Horatio is already waiting. Apparently, Slip was currently "unavailable" but as soon as you all arrive the appears in the doorway, wiping his hands which looked to be stained a deep red at the moment. From beneath his disturbing half mask, you see him smile and say Pardon for the tardiness, I had some other business to attend to. After that you all exchange pleasantries before he dispatches another member of his staff to accompany you to the Dread Lady to examine the wheel. He casts several divination spells over it to ascertain the exact nature of it. Once satisfied, he returns with you to Slip who informs you that he has heard tell of a certain water naga named Sarlis who claims to know the location of a smuggler and spy for a foreign power. Sarlis resides in a shallow cove on the Slithering Coast at this time of year, the location of which Slip marks on the your charts. He tells you to look for a hillock with a lone tree at the top on the western side of the river flowing into the cove. Nearby is a pool where the you should wait for Sarlis, which could take several days. The nagas of the Slithering Coast are aggressive and territorial, but Sarlis is more “social” than most of her ilk he informs you. After that business is complete, he begins to show you out when Flynn mentions the cube. Slip looks at it a moment before saying that he hasn't heard of such a cube but if he does hear anything he'd be happy to barter for the information. You are then shown out.

Yes Rain, apparently heading to Slip...;p

When slip makes mention of Sarlis Variel gets a half amused and half exasperated look. Really, all this work for simply, "I know someone who could help you," type of and answer. I expected better than this. If this Sarlis is more social than others then how do you plan on us approaching her? Surely you have made contact with this creature before hand and can give us some sign of passage to meet with her. What is to keep her from attacking us as invaders in her territory?

As for the cube, Variel does not expect much any further from Slip as they are let out the door. Perhaps, but in the meantime I will pursue other options that have more ready information at a better price. I am sure there is someone that can tell us directly what it is without having to track down 3 people to get an answer.

Back at the LAdy Variel is ready to shove off shortly but waits for Jiro to come back. Off to Quent then for repairs and add the wheel to the Lady. From there on to the Slithering Coast and find this Sarlis. Anone have any ideas on how to make peaceful contact with a water naga. The last one we met attacked us while we were getting our ship from Rickety.

Amen-set glances at the Halfling priest at those words, then glances around at the others with an eager expression, as if curious to know what the rest of them will say.

Horatio says nothing at Slip's response, merely staring at the wall with a flat expression. However, at Variel's words he offers a small grunt of assent with the Captain-General, but for now he says nothing.

Horatio pulls himself to his feet and heads out of the room and waits outside.

When Variel exits the room he is standing there, taking a small pull from a recently lit cheroot.

"Thanks for your help with the questioning back there," he says with a nod to the Elf.

"They might know more in Quent, but the point is - I appreciate your help," he says with a sincere tone.

"By the way, the padre went off to get some personal matters sorted out. I'd wager he'd be back with the tide, though," he adds as Amen-set loiters a little apart from them to give them some privacy.

Horatio will wait to see if Variel has any other thoughts or ideas, then he will signal to Amen-set and the rest of the away team that they're heading back to the ships.

Horatio listens to Variel ask his questions while the away team gets the longboat ready.

"If you want to know how to sail well you ask a pilot; if you want to know how to deal with creatures in the wild then I guess you'd ask a Druid, or a Ranger," he adds as he glances at the other officers.

"Failing that, we may find out more details on how to proceed at Quent."

As he is ready to head back to The Grave he pauses and looks to Variel.

"Speaking of Quent - when we get there it might be a good idea to figure out how you want to reorganize the roster; we may need to hire new folk and new officers depending on what we're up to next," he adds, almost as an afterthought.

Then he tips his hat and heads back to The Grave.

Once there he'll share what they've learned with Dhaavan.

Dhaavan knows that the others have the ship well in hand and that the The Lady will probably be faster than their ship, so he orders them to make all speed for Quent, assuming that The Lady will be able to catch them easily, even if they have a head start.

See you in Quent...

Rain took up Svingli's Eye and determined to observe and ascertain the weather over their course to Quent.

Once the Lady was set to sail, Rain deftly manoeuvred the ship from the dock, out of harbour and into open waters toward Quent. Once again, the Dryad's Grave had set sail before them, and Rain attempted to catch up to the other vessel.

Variel smiles at jiro's enthusiasm back in Quent. I know you are eager to be gone but if you could stop in the market and order a months of supplies to be delivered that would be great. After that go on...

As for myself, where is Rain? turning and looking for his bride to be Variel finds her issuing orders to make the Lady fast to the pier. What my I interest you in my lady? Do you wish to stay here and oversee the addition of our wheel or can I interest you in a walk around the area recruiting more able bodied sailors for our second ship? Foregoing both of those I could also fancy a walk to the temple for some rest and relaxation.

Knowing the answer but askinga nyways, Horatio, you going to look into that box some more? Be careful though as we don't know what it is or who else may want it. Good luck finding some answers though.

Adular, you off with your misses already? If not would you set a ship rotation for leave for both ships before you head out?

Dhaavan, I know you have been quiet and contemplating much lately. Would you take care of some of the goods though before you go back to your quarters? I am thinking we should sell about 20 shares worth and keep the rest just in case.

Seijiro heads to the market and orders supplies as needed for a month at sea for the Lady and her crew... He considers ordering for the Grave as well, but then reconsiders as the decision to keep or sell had not been made definitively yet. Another order can always be placed later if we keep her, he decides.

Once the supplies are purchased and ordered delivered to the Lady, he heads off to hopefully see Selenia, or at least send her word that he'd like to see her when she's free to spend some time together. If she's unavailable, he'll spend some time wandering in town, find himself a tavern with some good music and fun people to spend time with while he waits...

Sorry for the lack of posting. Trying to get back on track. Going to speed things along a bit.

Seijiro, you are able to meet up with Selenia and have a lovely time picnicking on the grounds of the Temple. Thankfully you arrived on a day off for her. This of course, is after you are able to secure the supplies Variel requested.

Adular, the ship rotation is set and good to go.

Let me know what, if anything, you all would like to do more.

With her duties completed, Rain smiled at her betrothed. "The Wheel can be overseen by Flynn's girl, Piper. I am certain he has given instruction to the task already. I will join you in the recruitment. Mayhap Dhaavan can ply his stories and draw the sailors in. We must man the Dryad if she will be of true use to us. I do not believe it will take us long. Then we can make our way to the Temple for some leisure." There was a blue fire in her turquoise eyes. The prospect of some one-on-one time with Variel seemed to please her. Nice rolls Rain. With those rolls and a couple of days, you can get full crews on both ships. I am going to create a few levels of crew members and post them up for ease and then all of the crew will fall into one of those categories. I'll put up the categories in a bit. I'm also going to redo the campaign info.

ALL not specifically described crew are either skilled (i.e. Level 1 rogues) or martial (Level 1 fighters)

The rogues have the statistics listed here with the dagger not falchion.

The fighters have the statistics listed here.

You gain a total of 30 from the rolls Rain made. You can mix and match as you like but that is the total you will get to outfit BOTH ships.

As Rain and Dhaavan ply the taverns and piers and docks for more sailors Variel finds that he has little to do. They were attracting new recruits by the bunches and Variel simply gave them instructions on who to report to and explained the pay and rewards of joining the fleet. Currently we have 2 ships. The lead ship is the Dread Lady and pride of our starting fleet. The second ship is one we just 'acquired' and are looking for able bodied sailors and pirates to follow our code and sail under our flag. Each month a portion of the plunder that is taken in will be given in payment.

When there is a break in the recruitment process Variel will turn to Rain and Dhaavan and ask them as long as the others when he sees them next. We have a name for our ship but we also have the beginnings of a fleet. We need to come up for a name that encompasses the whole of our ships. Something that can be referred to both ships and additional ships as well if possible. Something like Besmara's Blessings if we are talking about more than one ship. what do you guys think?

This is of course open to everyone to talk about once we all get together over the next few days while the wheel is attached and other loose ends are tied up.

Apologies folks... a lot of rl mini drama has hit our household this past week and I am way behind.

Neth 12th
Time: Roughly 3:00 PM
Location: In the harbor of Quent
Moon Cycle: Crescent Moon; Next Full Moon 25th of Neth
Moon Cycle
Weather Conditions: Cold, rainy.

Horatio stares at the town of Quent with cold and somewhat appraising eyes. He makes a note in his log regarding the time and date of arrival, knowing it was only a four hour journey from Bag Island, a two day journey from the wreck, and one day between when they seized the prize.

As he finishes his notes Amen-set leans in and whispers something to him and he grunts.

”Nay; it only felt like a week,” he says in response and she nods her head.

As he notes the others leave to sell the cargo, he observes the quality of the crew and studies them for a moment, his eyes narrowing; noting that some are good with daggers, some good with cutlasses – but the others?

He peers at them with a small frown.

”I thought some of them could handle guns? Was I in error?” he asks the general crew about their skills and qualities.

As he waits for an answer he overhears Adular’s suggestion about naming the ship and tugs on his beard thoughtfully, as if considering it.

”For myself I serve Milani; that said, I was thinking of making a small compromise?” he asks the remaining officers.

Adular, I put the link in because I’m pretty sure that a priest would probably know who Milani is. If you read about Milani I think it will explain a lot more about Horatio’s personality; including his charm with people in authority, his odd desire to go off on his own from time to time, and his pretty strong desire to fight against slavers as well as his constant decision to hang out with the common sailors below decks and constantly try to teach them to handle weapons and fight (Horatio really enjoys the holiday Armass, by the way). I remember telling the others about Horatio’s religious beliefs before we rebooted the game, but I couldn’t remember if I told you, so I figured I’d put some more on that via his background to help understand Horatio more. Anyhow, hope it helps understand Horatio a little more :)

”As of now, our Flagship is named The Dread Lady… Well, why not keep the surname Lady and add that to all of our ships? That way any captain who saw a ship with that name in it would know it’s part of our fleet; further, we pay honor to all the great females – both mortal and divine – who ply the seas; and it would also wouldn’t be partial to one goddess or another?” he asks.

Seeing Amen-set’s questioning eyes about the use of the word “Surname” he shrugs a little and elaborates.

”Right – so in other words; if our flagship is The Dread Lady perhaps we could call this one The Grave Lady, keeping the name "Grave" to honor the ship’s strength in battle. But do you see what I mean about “surname”? Thus, if we took another ship that might be called The Dark Knight we might call her The Dark Lady,” he adds, even as Piper mutters something about “bats” which Horatio ignores.

”Also, I know this ship belonged to a poxing whoreson who we sent to the deep – but that’s his problem. As for honoring his ship itself? Well, to be honest, I’ve been chewing that over somewhat after chatting with Piper lately – she follows Brigh by the way – anyhow, she’s big on talking about how if a true crafter makes something they’re not just making a tool, but you’re giving an inanimate object a piece themselves; in other words, basically giving it a soul…” he says slowly, as if the idea seems odd even to him.

A little insight on Piper here, too. But as a priest I figured you know this stuff, too :)

”Point is; a ship is something special and she deserves to be honored if she did well in a fight, no matter who conned her before we took her,” he adds with a small smile.

”Anyhow, all of that got me thinking – what if there’s more to that stone we found on the ship?” he says, referencing the Black Stone.

”What if there’s already something sacred in it; what if some crafter put a part of themselves in it already? I could be wrong, but so far I’ve been trying to see if it’s just a stone, or special material, or even just a thing that came from somewhere else that could be useful… But what if I’m going about this the wrong way?”

”I mean, what if there is something – sentient – inside of it already? A presence; a power; a spirit? Maybe it’s only quiet – or maybe it’s sleeping? Well, if it is, maybe we could try to wake it up?” he says with a somewhat muted enthusiasm.

”I’m going to go try to follow up on that. For now I’m leaving Piper to install the wheel on The Lady, as that seems to be the plan – but me and Amen-set are going to go to find out more lore about this while Piper works and we gather up new crew.”

”As Jiro-san is going to be handling those details and storing the goods – seeing as he’s the quartermaster – and as Captain-General and the Pilot-Major have looked for new lads with the First Officer, you got any interest in giving us a hand?” he asks.

So – in short; I’d be for calling the second ship The Grave Lady. Also, Piper will work on the Wheel and our current ship. Finally, anyone want to come with Horatio to find out lore on the Black Stone? It doesn’t matter if you’re not there “in-game”; I’ll happily ret-con anyone coming to help if you want to come.

See you all soon!

"If all our ship names ended in Lady, then how would we discern the true Lady, our main ship, from the others? I do not care for such unnecessary confusion. It is true that not all the Officers follow Besmara and it should be taken into consideration. We could simply refer to our growing fleet as the more neutral Brine's Blessings - Blessings for short, as Adular has previously stated."
