Fitch thinks for a moment before saying I'll tell you what. You give me a flat fee...something I can live comfortably off of for the next few years till I pass from this world...say 2000 pieces of gold...and I will get you to the Banshee. How does that sound?

Horatio stares at the man for a while.

There is a flat, almost disappointed, look in his eye as he hears the man's response after his own earlier words to Fitch.

"I already told you we got an accord and now you want to haggle; instead of half you want a flat fee of 2,000 gold pieces..."

He turns to Variel, Dhaavan and Seijiro and gives them a small, helpless gesture.

He turns back to Fitch.

"I think that I speak for everyone when I say that's fine."

He sighs.

"That being the case we now have a formal agreement."

"You will get your 2,000 gold pieces but only after you help us find the ship."

"Now if there's nothing else, will you please go get your gear so we can get going and find the ship?" he says with a polite yet somewhat weary voice.

Fitch smiles and says Excellent! Glad that could be sorted. Fitch goes and grabs what looks like a prepacked bag sitting by the stairs. Apparently his suspicious nature includes a bug out bag. He will then follow you to your ship.

FYI, I will be traveling to my inlaws in the middle of bumf@$! nowhere with...I s#@@ you not...satellite internet. That said let's put a pause on the game until I return on sunday so that everyone can enjoy the holidays without worrying about posting and internet access while traveling and such. Seeing that a value has been decided upon by Fitch Variel nods his agreement. The sum, while significant is within our ability to agree to. However the payment will not given as Horatio says until confirmation of the Brine Banshee and her location is confirmed.

As Fitch grabs a pack that is already loaded Variel gives him a look with an eyebrow raised. Planned to leave already or just like being prepared? Is there anything else you need to grab or go to on the way to the ship?

Fitch smiles and said No I am good to go. Thank you young man.

You make your way back to the ship where you are greeted by the crew. Fitch stows his belongings where you direct him and asks if you could meet with him privately to discuss the next step. Assuming you agree to meet, he informs you that he has a plan to find the Brine Banshee.

Holding up the piece of leg bone you saw earlier he says So I know how to find the Banshee but I need something in order to do so. There is a ring, called the Ring of the Iron Skull, that allows the bearer to find a corpse...assuming you already have a piece of the body. He shakes the vial at this point and you hear the bone clink. There is a pirate captain named "Milksop" Morton, captain of the sloop Dryads Grave, who currently is in possession of the Ring of the Iron Skull. He sails between the Smoker and Shark Island and is due in Ollo in two days. If we can ambush him before he reaches Ollo we will be able to get the ring, and anything else you wish to lay hands on, and then go and find the Brine Banshee.

Knowledge local 15:
Milksop Morton, is an independent, unaligned pirate who does not hold a Shackles letter of marque. He seeks to make a
name for himself and earn quick profits by extorting the hard-won plunder of other independent pirates not sworn to powerful pirate lords.

Horatio contemplates the information about this "Milksop Morton" for a moment...

EDIT:

He feels his jaw tighten at the rather lengthy series of obstacles in their way but says nothing too much about it. After all, the man wouldn't be paid until after the ship was found. If he was going to send them on a wild goose chase then he wouldn't be paid until the deed was done.

For now he glances at the others, curious to know what their thoughts will be on this next leg of their journey...

"False colors are easy enough to manufacture. Can't we simply create a flag? Possibly even using an illusion spell, or even prestidigitation to have the needle and thread sew up the proper heraldry for a specific captain?" he asks.

"After all, it seems we have two more days to sit back pretty much do nothing but plan."

He pauses and turns to Fitch, staring at the doctor with a hard light in his eyes, clearly not pleased that Fitch had waited so long to share that seemingly vital piece of information about "Milksop Morton".

He turns a glance to the others.

"Maybe we could even rig up the colors to show we're some kind of deputation from the Pirate King himself? It might make him think twice about attacking us before it's too late," he says with a neutral shrug as he glances at the others, clearly curious to know what the they might think of the plan, or if they have another to suggest.

If we fly the Hurricane King's colors I have a feeling that Morton would disappear and not give chase. I don't know how many merchants ply these waters but I am sure that we have a flag or 2 lying around that we can use.

Looking at th others Variel continues, I see no reason to wait any longer. If there are no other issues at hand or supplies that need to be gotten then let us set sail and position ourselves accordingly.

Horatio waves Variel over and speaks to him quietly (though, of course, anyone is welcome to listen in; he's mainly trying to keep this conversation private from Fitch)...

"I'm just as eager for action as you are, believe me," he says with a quick glance to Fitch, then continuing "but the thing is, we're basing our search on a hunch. Also, we're assuming that this Morton guy is going to be back in Ollo in two days for sure; no delay, no problems with weather; no attacks; no other issues at all... just something worth thinking about, you know?"

He shrugs.

"Okay, then. Let's sail! What's our course heading, then?" he asks, not entirely sure where they need to travel to head off the enemy ship if they're heading out to sea.

”Moak Harbor’s got places to set up an ambush, that’s true. But it’s not a pleasant place…” he says watching Fitch.

He turns to Variel.

”It’s up to you; but if we take that direction, I’d recommend being very careful,” he says.

Well, if we let him aboard to "parlay" for our payment, we could inform them that we're ransoming their Captain back to em for the ring, eh? Rather than ambush. Let them take the aggressive action and break parlay. Have a couple officers invisible, so we keep an element of surprise.

or we let am chase us and when they get in range, we turn, open fire, and take what we want

Regardless if we wait for them or let them chase us I think our best option is to let him board us and then turn the tide against him. Not only would this get him on our ship and in a position for us to surround him. We also stand a good chance of capturing his ship.

Horatio places his hand on the butt of his pistol and slides it forward more comfortably on his hip.

"Well, the it looks like we're all good to go. After all, if anyone wanted to do more precise or specific planning, I'm positive that they would have done so long before now," he says with a pleasant smile.

He turns to both Rain and Amen-set.

"Ladies; if one of you would mind taking us out, I'd be pretty obliged," he adds with the same cheerful enthusiasm.

He turns back to the others.

"So if all we need to move forward is an able pilot, well; as it's been said - we're good to go. That being the case there's really no reason at all that we are continuing to do absolutely nothing whatsoever," he says with a wide grin.

He rubs his chin thoughtfully, then bounds up to the quarterdeck and looks at the others.

"Face it; we know our target; we know our destination; we know our objective," he says, then turns to stare at Fitch, his hand resting comfortably on his pistol as he continues to smile.

"We've all said our piece; so, basically, there is absolutely no reason why we aren't formally underway and sailing for our target - at least; none on our end," he adds cheerfully.

"Now normally Rain'd take us out; but I think she may be tied up for a bit. But no worries! If she can't take us out then I'll have Amen-set do it... Or, if for some reason that's a problem, then I'll do it myself; because I really want to sail," he continues with the same relaxed frankness.

"Of course; Variel, or Seijiro-san, or Dhaavan, or Adular might also do it, too; but I think they would have volunteered to do this already if they wanted to."

"But what's the difference? As for me; I'm a hundred percent confident that we all want to move forward and have some action," he continues easily.

He moves from his current stance and walks with a purpose to stare Fitch in the eyes.

"Now; if the only thing stopping us from moving forward is that you need someone at the helm to do things; then that's no problem," he says and points to Amen-set and snaps his fingers even though he keeps his gaze on Fitch.

She looks at the others, then Fitch, then Horatio and bows low and rushes forward to obey...

Right now I know Rain is unable to post for a few days still. I also know that we need a Profession: Sailor check to get us underway. I also know that we're done with plans because no one is posting anything.

If the only thing required to move forward into some action is a Profession: Sailor Check then I apologize for not tossing it up sooner:

Profession: Sailor:
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34

EDIT: Well, it's a 34 coupled with a Natural 20. Hopefully that's enough to get us moving.

Rain: I apologize for preempting your roll; however, I know you had asked specifically for someone to Bot your character during your absence and I'm only doing that simply to move things forward. Even so; I hope that's okay :)

GM: We've all had a chance to share our thoughts and opinions on the subject of the ship and now you have the Profession: Sailor check of a 34 built on a Natural 20 to boot.

That said, King's to you... :)

"Begging your pardon, Pilot-Major," he says politely "I'm sorry for having my lass take the helm," he says glancing toward Amen-set "but the thing is; we needed to move forward and that just wasn't happening."

He props the pistol over his shoulder and glances at the ship in the distance. He looks at everyone else on the Main Deck and then turns to look at Rain thoughtfully.

"See, the only reason the others are being quiet right now is because they're waiting for that ship to catch us. They know that talking won't make a gods damned difference to getting that ship to move forward."

"There is no plan. We're going to close distance with that whore; she's going to try to pirate us and we're going to let her try; we're going to take beating and give it back better."

He glances at the ship as he continues to talk to Rain.

"When she's close enough to toss grapples then we'll do what we need to do to finish it."

He turns back to Rain and gives her a dry grin.

"Anyhow; I'm sorry for running my mouth. I just wanted to apologize for sending my girl onto your quarterdeck. I wasn't trying usurp your authority is all."

Glad to have you back Rain.

Variel waits and watches as the ships is on the horizon. Sure enough it gave pursuit as they all hoped it would. As it closed he hoped that everyone was ready as he hoped the opposing ship would be willing to come aside and board them. He saw Rain at the wheel and could tell by her pose that she awaited his orders. Amen-set was with Horatio at the forward cannon but he hoped they would not fire it.

looking to Rain he asks her Please bring the ship around and hold her steady. Let them come along side us.

Looking to the crow's nest he gives the signal for them to indicate that they will comply with the warning shot. Ask them what they want and what is the meaning for the warning shot? Have the flag ready to hoist though as they are boarding us.

To those nearby Keep watch. We don't know what capabilities they have but we want them to board our ship. We need that ring first and foremost. If we can take their ship all the better for us if it is not damaged when we take her.

"You know; if we decide to blow him apart we can always dive for the ring... assuming it's not too deep," he says with a glance at the waves.

At Amen's show of respect, Rain inclined her head promptly, with a quiet, "Thank you, Amen", and took the Wheel in hand, feeling the sway and pull of the ship as she did so. The girl had done a fine job to this point, but Rain's piloting skill surpassed hers, and the Elven pilot felt better in control of the Lady at this juncture.

At Variel's order to bring the ship about and hold her steady, Rain replied with "Aye, Aye, Captain."

Prof. Sailor to manoeuvre and hold ship steady: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (11) + 22 = 33

Upon Flynn's query as to the depth of the water, Rain contemplated her knowledge of the watery landscape and her knowledge of these waters in general.

Know. Geography re the depth of the water: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33
Know. Local re the depth of the water: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Her eyes cast outward to spy any would be foe in the water/waves or any would be obstacles that would ground the Lady to a halt.

Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24 (+2 from Neko for a 26.)

Neko was beside Rain and looked out as her mistress did, passing along any pertinent information via their mental link.

Neko's Perception to aid Rain: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Variel agrees with the assesment of the threat below the water. Seeing tha tis taken care of by Horatio he turns to Dhaavan. I am not sure how that would work as it might tip our hand as to what we are planning. seeing that Rain has no problem commanding the ship he gives her hand a squeeze as they await the next few moments.

Horatio shrugs and grabs the lead and tosses it, letting it drop into the depths then pulls it out, counting the lengths as he does.

Horatio is "Tossing the Lead" to call the fathoms. Basically taking a long rope with lead on the bottom for weight; tossing it over the side, then pulling it up and counting the amount of water that is wet. If we're only over about 100 feet above the bottom, then he honestly doesn't care too much about sinking the ship - we can always dive for the ring if we really need to (though of course, that's a last resort plan). If we're over a whale hole or something, then diving may not be worth it.

However, according to the GM/Fitch we sailed roughly half a day South East of Ollo; and according to the GM's map, that puts us roughly over the archipelago of the Sahuagin Coast (the map the GM gave us can be found Here. Being that Shark Island's had it's own problem with Sahuangin already (and given are approximate location) I'm a little nervous about assaults from Sahuagin in addition to this guy - but since they typically like deep water, that's the other reason Horatio is checking the depth.

As soon as the GM lets me know, I'll let you guys know...

As he counts the lengths he turns calls back to Variel -

"She's only a few hundred yards out. I could take her mainsail, if you'd like... then we can deal with her as you like; sink her, or even tow her to shore and repair the sail and resell her... just say the word," he calls out, his gaze flicking up to the enemy vessel.

Amen-set pauses amidship and calls to Rain.

"Hearken, Nebet-i, when the battle starts I shall cast upon the Divine and cast the spell "Life Pact"... I am able to bind four allies to myself... Should I, or any of the four, fall... they shall not perish but shall instead draw life from the others in the Pact and thus they shall not die..." she says quickly.

"I so name myself as well as thee, my hatey-a' and the Lord of the Rock," she says with a glance to Dhaavan.

"One more I may choose... who should it be?" she asks the group.

Right now Amen-set picked the people she's most aligned to; she can pick one more PC - but I'm not sure who it should be. Variel is likely going to be in the front for combat; Adular is a priest; and Seijiro is probably going to be in the thick of things to try to get plenty of Sneak Attack stuff so it's really up to you guys. Just let me know your preference and she'll include the last PC.

The spell only lasts 5 minutes, though; and the members of the spell need to be at least 35 feet from the others in the Pact to be effective (in other words, if Seijiro, Rain and Horatio had it on and were 20 feet from each other and the three of them moved up 50 feet from the others and Rain dropped to negative 20 HP then Horatio would automatically lose 11 HP and Seijiro would automatically lose 11 HP and Rain would be at 2 HP and stable; but Dhaavan and Amen-set would too far too be in range).

Anyhow, just let me know the last person (or if you don't want to be included; you don't really have to if you don't want to) and I'll include people as requested.

Going through questions first: No Sahuagin that you can see. It's over 100' you would guess about 300 or so where you are. Rain no obstacles, open ocean right here and with that roll you know that you are on a stretch of ocean over a shallow plateau surrounded by deeper water, almost like a sunken island was here at one point. That said there isn't much interesting or dangerous that you can tell.

The other ship moves to about 100' before you hear a voice carry out across the distance. Ahoy there! Who be ye that traverses the territory of Milksop Morton and the crew of the Dryad's Grave?! The ship is a two masted sloop sailing ship with a figurehead carved in the likeness of a bare-chested, goat-horned satyr with muscular arms thrust forward as if diving into the ocean, its mouth open in a silent scream of anger and pain.

Dhaavan I saw that you posted you were trying to hide so I went with this post. IF you wish to do the talking go ahead.

Variel holds his tongue as he looks for Dhaavan. The wily sorceror had a gift for beguiling people. Yet it seemed that Dhaavan was holding himself back from sight so as to give a bigger surprise when Milksop boarded. Hoping that he did not ruin the ambush and plan Variel called out keeping his words to a miinimum. Captain Variel Nightstorm. My apologies, I did not know that anyone owned this territory. How far does your territory extend?

Should have remembered to put up a message Would that casting give my position away since they're at shouting distance not speaking distance?

Or someone else could cast it?

Milksop is preening and says Oh you know...here and there...but as far as you're concerned...here is the only one you need worry about. So if you are to sail on my ocean you need to pay the requisite levy. I'm in a generous mood so how about we just say half of whatever you're carrying.

Horatio leans on the cannon and stares back at Variel; then turns to Amen-set...

"Go do your thing," he says to her.

She nods and moves back to stand near Variel.

Horatio turns back to Variel and grins at him, then gives him a quick salute.

Just before Variel speaks, Amen-set reaches her hand out to him gently and casts a spell...

Seijiro casts a message spell, staying camouflaged, putting Dhaavan and Variel in the loop so they can discuss what their actions will be as silently as possible.
